Chorrol.com _ Oblivion _ how many times did you finish oblivion

Posted by: deemu Oct 1 2006, 10:59 PM

i finished it three times

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Oct 1 2006, 11:19 PM

I've finished it once so far. I've taken a bit of a break from it currently but'll I'll get back to it once I get over playing Dynasty Warriors all the time.

Posted by: deemu Oct 1 2006, 11:31 PM

dynasty warriors is a cool game i must admit smile.gif

Posted by: The Vulture Oct 2 2006, 12:23 AM

Dynasty Warriors is awesome.

What is the point of finishing it three times? I did it once. smile.gif

Posted by: Soulseeker3.0 Oct 2 2006, 02:47 AM

I would love to beat it more then my measly once but my computer keeps over heating and crashes... it got to annoying so after my once through i dropped it

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Oct 2 2006, 03:41 AM

Bummer Soulseeker. I've had the a problem with Morrowind similar to that, but it would just be a constant freezing problem. I became too annoyed with it to continue playing.

What I'm glad is that Oblivion isn't an MMORPG or else I would be so mad since my modem is constantly disconnecting again, but I have a feeling it's my ISP. Evil evil I say.

mine only crashed twice but the game is to cool to just play it once

Yes. Although I do like to... hoard... weapons I've downloaded, so I buy/loot/~, kill, resurrect in the console. Armor to. All the stuff. And doing quests...

But I don't get the "who!" part of your post. Did you mean "whoa!"?

yup. it happens with Morrowind too... as i've recently figured out. It turns out that my punny computer fan can't keep the overclocked hard drive cool. I would set it back but the overclock is the reason i'm able to play Oblivion, I hate vicious circles

If you get tired of spending along time in there, just press ~ and type "tcl" without quotes. Look where you want to fly to (entrence of Sigil Tower), and go there. Then (if you are doing this in an Oblivion gate), just fly to the top where you enter the Sanguillium Sigilus thing, and, boom, you're in (you can re-type "tcl" (without quotes) to turn clipping on).

Hey, Abu did you ever consider the people who have it on Xbox 360 and Can't do that!? I haven't beaten Oblivion yet or even Morrowind for that matter. I am on like the second last mission right now for both. But i dont have the time right now, i have rugby, football and ball hockey which takes up 7 days a week. But during winter when I'm freezing my boat off up in Canada I will have plenty of time to beat both. Also, i rented dynasty warriors once, it is really cool. My favorite weapon is thew huge boomerang like the one characther in Inuyasha. Can't remember her name though, thats gonna keep me up all night.

I'm still on my first round through. smile.gif Though I am at the point of gathering troops for Bruma and closing each city's Oblivion gate. I've taken up collecting weapons and armor, so I don't mind all the gates. I'm doing a study of the Daedric armor for potential costume making. smile.gif And since the Dremora won't stay still long enough for me to set up shots, and won't pose willingly,.....

Lava swinning is also fun when not in god mode. Just have to make sure you have a decent level of magica, plenty of healing potions, and don't just wade in. smile.gif Also helps to know exactly which direction you wnat to go and go a fast as you possibly can. Things do look really cool through the lava though.

Posted by: Soulseeker3.0 Dec 28 2006, 03:05 AM

*cough* only? biggrin.gif yeah i've mentioned it once, i'll mention it again... i've only beat it once due to computer technical difficulties.

0 biggrin.gif
but im close to it
like 4 more parts to the main quest, and im a lvl 13 wood elf
99 speed my best skill ohmy.gif

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Feb 12 2007, 09:24 PM

Haha cool! My first character was a Wood Elf Theif/Assassin. Though I took my time and finished the Main Quest when I was around level 37.

Posted by: DavidBeck Feb 13 2007, 12:22 AM

I've beaten the entire game three times.

I'm now on my fourth. biggrin.gif

(By "entire game" I include: the main quest, all the guild quests, and EVERY little subquest!)

Needless to say, I am an Oblivion fanatic.

I even purchased the game for BOTH 360 and computer!!! ohmy.gif

This is gonna be shocking, prepear....
I have never finished oblivion. I never did the mainquest!
But I am sure I will someday^^

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Feb 15 2007, 02:49 AM

Ya, I have a feeling I'm not going to finish Oblivion for a second time anytime soon. Actually, I'm saving my playing time for Shivering Isles. I intend to start another character to see how if I could possibly activate that expension right away.

Not shocking at all smile.gif My level 46 character still hasn't finished the main quest. She's taking her sweet time about it by causing havoc all over Cyrodil (ie: mods) with a Dremora companion. smile.gif Doubt I'll ever truely finish Oblivion. smile.gif Played Morrowind for 3 years without finishing that one. blink.gif

Posted by: Ola Martin Feb 15 2007, 06:59 PM

Well, I don't belive I will have a game where I have done ALL the quests and stuff, but I have to do the mainquest sometime. Only problem is that mods are too fun^^.

I did finish the mainquest in Morrowind once, but not the bloodmoon and tribunal ones. I really look forward to a sequel to oblivion! There is going to be one right?

Posted by: 1234king Feb 28 2007, 06:17 AM

Well, i've finally beat Morrowind after about 2 years of having it. I also, beat Oblivion once.............but the main quest wasn't that good so I probably won't beat it again.

Posted by: minque Mar 2 2007, 07:41 PM

Now I´m gonna shock you all.....I do have Oblivion....but never even played it....I haven´t opened the box yet. See my pc crashed due to thunderstorm last summer and since then....well I just haven´t got around to install it on the new one..

Oh but I will......some day! tongue.gif

Posted by: Ola Martin Mar 4 2007, 06:48 PM

Weird thing that a moderator have the game but haven't played it yet.
Well if you don't start playing it soon I will come over to you(from Norway) with an Akawiri Katana and smite you tongue.gif , wasn't it you who were from Sweden? in that case, shorter distance to run draging a sword:p.
Good luck with Oblivion then^^

I haven't beaten it once yet. I've had the game since it was released too. I'm a goddamn winner, right?

Posted by: Fargoth Aug 6 2007, 03:56 PM

about 3-4 times xD cause my windows crashed about 5 times, and I had to re-install it... so i've lost my save games every time xD

Posted by: allshallfade Aug 8 2007, 12:46 AM

I've beaten it maybe four or five times, even though I've started the main quest around ten times. It's just so annoying closing all those damn gates tongue.gif

Posted by: Fargoth Aug 8 2007, 08:48 AM

yeah, the worst part of the main quest is the gates..

I've not beaten it yet either. For that matter, I didn't beat Morrowind either and I had it for about two years. I also have Oblivion since 2006 but I've never gotten around to beating it. My current character, a Wood Elf is level 8 but I haven't even started the MQ properly (I've only delivered the Amulet to Jauffre).

Posted by: xX Kinzer Xx Jul 26 2008, 12:00 AM

Well, I've probably done everything there is to do in Oblivion, but all on seperate charcters. I almost beat the main quest and all the guilds with one character, but on the last quest for the thieves guild I had a power outage and lost all my saves.

Posted by: johann25 Jul 31 2008, 05:01 AM

well, i've finished it like 2 times but i usually raise the difficulty as i finish it...

Posted by: seerauna Oct 31 2008, 12:47 AM

I think I've beaten it what... 7 times I think. Just the MQ though. I beat the entire game 4 times. I have a whole lot of free time biggrin.gif.

Posted by: Kiln Nov 5 2008, 08:30 PM

I've only played through the main quest once myself, I've also cruised through the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles as well...gotta say they help the game to be what it should have been at launch.

Posted by: marks_man Jul 25 2009, 04:32 AM

well only once biggrin.gif
but ive got about 6 characters my favourite being my shifty marksman cool.gif

Posted by: saqin Sep 28 2009, 05:53 PM

It feels like I've started the Main Quest a million of times, though I've only beaten it once. And I lost that character, whom I had beaten almost the complete game with... Then I always get so annoyed by doing all of it over again, so I haven't brought myself to doing it yet. Though I loved the final part, and that's why I want to beat it again, so I can watch it.

But I have beaten most of the guilds a few times, and the Shivering Isles. Also the knights of the nines have been beaten once or twice, and I think I've done almost all of the quests. I even ran around killing everyone once... blink.gif

Though I haven't really played as a very powerful vampire yet, but I'm working on it. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Syndelius Daerleth Dec 20 2009, 02:17 AM

ive done every single quest atleast 3 times and beat the main quest like 20 times biggrin.gif

As the regulars here know I have never "finished" Oblivion. I can never bring myself to complete a free-roaming game because that requires me to go down a pre-determined path which defeats the whole purpose of a free-roaming game, imvho smile.gif

Posted by: Acadian Oct 8 2013, 03:30 PM

mirocu, I love your ability to ferret out an old thread that, not only has a valid and interesting premise, but let's us see what was said long ago. goodjob.gif

Acadian, in his quest to evaluate if Oblivion was 'fit for elven consumption' completed all the quests in the game at least once. He only completed the MQ once. Although I loved the MQ and found it both fulfilling and touching, it left a definite feeling of . . . finality. It did indeed seem awkward to go from Champion of Cyrodiil to Potato Hunter or Rat Slayer.

We worked some Acadian magic into Buffy's neverending story in Tamriel. She lives in a post-Oblivion crisis world, but it is the late Savlian Matius who is the Hero of Kvatch, and Sir Mazoga who is the Champion of Cyrodiil. There is no statue in Bruma and no one has ever called Buffy any sort of hero or champion. It works wonderfully for us.

Posted by: McBadgere Oct 8 2013, 03:49 PM

Cool thread!!!...

About half of my character Knights have done the MQ...Nordy-Boy, McWylde, J'Drell and Galasafon all finished the MQ and live (and are still finding new locations to fill the map in with) in said post Crisis world...The others are unlikely to do it...

Methinks I'm MQ'd out... biggrin.gif ...

I did enjoy it though...More than some on here seem to have...I had a blast closing the gates personally...

Olfsson and McWylde were all shoulders down and charge (Swipe-stab-crunch), whilst the other two were a bit more sneaky about it...Galasafon spent most of his time in Dagon's realm invisible... biggrin.gif ... emot-ninja1.gif ...

Posted by: Callidus Thorn Oct 8 2013, 03:54 PM

Finish...Oblivion?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

I mean sure, I've done the main quest, once. But finishing an open world game?

That sounds counter productive.

Posted by: Acadian Oct 8 2013, 04:02 PM

Buffy's objectives in Cyrodiil are three-fold:

1. Talking with her many friends about such things as mud crabs and syndicates of Altmer wizards.
2. Traveling the roads, rivers and beautiful countryside of Cyrodiil and defending her right to do so against those who would accost her.
3. Keeping every dungeon in Cyrodiil permanently clear of foes.

When those three objectives are finished, perhaps she'll want to move on. biggrin.gif

My favorite characters live in Cyrodiil, so I’m nowhere near finished with Oblivion. smile.gif

I have one character who finished the MQ. She moved on to solve Skyrim’s problems and has recently retired (become an NPC) in the northern province.

Jerric hasn’t completed the MQ yet. Despite precautions I’m concerned that there will be a feeling of the game being over once that part is complete. I guess the best way to address that problem is just to get on with it. tongue.gif

Wait WHAT? You've never finished beaten Oblivion? How can this be?

Just kidding. I've only 'beat' this game once, although I've started the MQ twice. First time I did so, my elf character (Igodah Go^Pe) wound up getting the A-bomb in her game, and she literally got stuck in the final tower with the clock ticking down. There was a door which would not open due to the Animation Bomb. Yeah, it sucked.

I tried again with The Grey Wizard (a character I had back in High School while playing table RPGs) and TGW succeeded. IN a way, you're right, mirocu. After TGW sent Mehrune's packing back to Oblivion, it truly did indeed seem like there was nothing left for him to do. I wrote a short story about his life in the Arcane Uni a few months ago, in which TGW now does nothing but chase cute Apprentices around, and tries to postulate bizarre theories, while he absent-mindedly cannot remember if he's had his supper or not.

Wow, check that out. The OP did the MQ 3x, and in short succession, it seems. When was OB released? It was 2006, right? 'deemu' must have been obsessed with the MQ, it seems.

I mean, I might do the MQ a third time with one of my PC characters (once I get some issues sorted out), the difference is on PC, there'll be more stuff to do hopefully, and this means that once my future character finishes the MQ, he or she won't just be stuck with a meaningless existence full of NPCs making glowing comments all the time. This character (whoever it is) might wind up still having some real things to do, is what I mean to say.

There is one thing you can do after completing the MQ: The Shivering Isles.

Sheogorath would undoubtedly be interested in someone who foiled the plan of a Daedric Prince, and lived to tell the tale.

No no no, those are things to do instead of the MQ. You know that better than most of us, seeing as you've never done that MQ, being busy with... well, the above I suppose. Besides, playing on after the MQ isn't worth it in my opinion. Being the Champion of Cyrodiil doesn't even get you free drinks or anything. wacko.gif

As for Renee and mods, I suspect your right. I give it two weeks after she starts modding Oblivion before her updates become flooded with modded content. And screenshots, dozens of screenshots.

I'd disagree. There are always the guild quest-lines, and it's also different in my game because I create my own mods.

In my Gweden Brothel mod, half the quests aren't available until you're CoC, as that's when Ocato trusts you enough to hand over control of the Red Dragon Club. It's the defunct brothel that the late Count Goldwine used to run, and it's also the cover for the Imperial Intelligence Agency. That mod also has extra quests for the Arch-mage, Listener, Master of the FG.

In the Rumple Mod, the CoC/Madgod gets a series of quests that lead to closing a couple of Oblivion gates in the Isles. Dagon is trying to get revenge on the CoC, and once the latter becomes Sheogorath, the former can cause trouble there.

With both mods in play, there are a few extra cross-over quests, too.

I'm building another mod (Evergloam) that adds continuation quests beyond the Thieves Guild ending, although that one doesn't care if you're CoC or not.

I'm not the only one who's created post-MQ quests as mods. Look for a few at the Nexus and carry on.

Really?... huh.gif ...

Well all my characters are Knights of The Nine...And That was what I created them for...That they saved Cyrodiil was just something they wound up doing as Knights...And after the MQ is done, they're still knights...

They always go into the chapels and pray at the altars, and at the shrines should they happen upon them on their travels...

So in game time, the Dagon Crisis happened a few months earlier to most of them...Wandering around post-crisis is just the same as crisis-less to me at least...

Enemy=Smack-down!!...

Besides, playing on after the MQ isn't worth it in my opinion. Being the Champion of Cyrodiil doesn't even get you free drinks or anything. wacko.gif

I'm on the 360, so no mods for me.

No no no, those are things to do instead of the MQ. You know that better than most of us, seeing as you've never done that MQ, being busy with... well, the above I suppose. Besides, playing on after the MQ isn't worth it in my opinion. Being the Champion of Cyrodiil doesn't even get you free drinks or anything. wacko.gif

Really?...

Enemy=Smack-down!!...

You again ohmy.gif

Oh, wait, you left the crazy at the door. Ok then, but *equips Ordinator gear* I'm watching you...

Knights of the Nine never appealed to me all that much, but I've never liked Paladin/Divine Crusader type characters.

The way I see it, once you've literally saved the world everything else is kind of a step down.

I completed the MQ several times in Oblivion with multiple characters.

Despite precautions I’m concerned that there will be a feeling of the game being over once that part is complete.

That is the problem I encountered every time one of my characters finished the MQ. The game felt over. Everything else that I could do felt pointless. I could play forever as long as I don't finish the MQ. Like someone else said, it's hard to go back to killing rats after foiling Dagon.

Callidus: I did consider having the Grey Wizard enter Shivering Isles, but I haven't gotten around to that game yet.

Or wander around Cyrodiil and admiring the scenery. Or look up bandits to fight. Or sneak around dungeons. Or make spells and enchantments at the University. Or collect various things and put on display in one of the homes available. Or... well, you get the idea wink.gif

Ha ha I see what you're saying. None of this would fit the Grey Wizard's RP, though. As my CoC (at least in the PS3 world) he's proven to all that he's the best. He has no need to do any further.

Another thing about TGW is he became too powerful. I didn't limit his magical skills at all, so in his world, he simply pwns everything he meets. This is fun for awhile, but it makes for a rather boring playthrough eventually.

Once. I've done each Elder Scrolls main quest one time. I never plan to do any of them a second time.

I think I probably will do TES: IV's main quest again, but only because It'll be on PC this time. I'll be able to disable stuff and add stuff, ya know?

You mean cheat, right? tongue.gif

Just kidding.

Honestly, give a gamer with a PC a perfectly good game, and the first thing they do is start messing with it. tongue.gif

Not by my terms, no. Everything's going to be the same: Dead is Dead will still be implemented for instance. My biggest thing is I am going to get a Hunger/Sleep Mod, meaning that my characters must eat and sleep. indifferent.gif That alone will make my game so much more immersive. Lady Saga's 'boring' playthrough will now have a new element of survival. Survival. That's what I want. Not new creatures or endless black soul gems, but a gameworld which has some additional consequences.

Also, as Joan of Arkay begins the Main Quest, the ability to add random followers will make it feel like she's got a small army with her on a holy crusade (perhaps). It'll feel like Joan of Arc in miniature. Over-the-top perhaps, but it's a "good" over-the-top. I like followers. They only add to the RP. I've already done the Main Quest in the vanilla game, now I want to give it a different feel.

I'm also going to leave the leveling vanilla, too. I've been manipulating the Majors/Minors system for so long you see, I've fine-tuned it to the point that it's perfect for the way I game. bluewizardsmile.gif

Renee, I'm excited to hear about your plans with the PC! biggrin.gif

Yeah, I don't use a leveling mod either. Since Buffy only has 19 levels to get things right, we ignore several attributes (endurance, strength, luck. . . ) and focus on what's important to her (agility, intelligence, willpower). Speed has turned out to be unimportant (illusion + horse = no need to run) - and with her tiny size, even a speed of 100 would not allow her to outrun many foes. Buffy (being Buffy) insists on raising personality for RP purposes. So sometimes we helped things along when we needed a +5 and sometimes (to Buffy's chagrin) unhelped by reducing an attribute gain or two that the system forced on us (gotta increase 3 attributes every level, but nothing says you can't turn right around and 'undo' the increase).

I don't use survival mods either. I know what you mean about doing that stuff, but I guess we've been playing so long that it all comes naturally. Buffy eats like a bird - not much, but frequently and she drinks lots of water too. Providing food/water for her mare is always a major concern (she knows every water source on the map and we RP that every bandit camp is built on a natural spring). She really needs that 8 or so hours of beauty sleep each night. And she changes attire as often as necessary to be dressed for the clime and conditions. Oh, and bathing and all that stuff of course. Fortunately, in Buffy's world, elves only . . . come into heat twice a year so that is only an occasional consideration that we make arrangements for. Heck, she once wrote half an episode on the details of brushing her teeth! Anyway, she never lets us forget about that stuff so we've never found mods to 'enforce' those things to be necessary. In truth, I really don't want her in the middle of a fight and have a message come up that 'You are feeling cold / hungry / stinky / thirsty / whatever.' Lol.
