Yup, this mod's sole purpose is to put in characters from the fanfic section into the game as NPCs, possibly with quests, rewards and of course custom dialogue.

Black Hand posted some quest ideas recently.

"Trey of High Rock is looking for his long lost heir to Bal Isra. I should start my search there."

"Serene of Cyrodiil has told me where to find the Ring of Immeasurable Mobility"

"Simion Mandrake tried to assassinate me last night. Fortunately I was able to defend myself, there is this strange dagger he left behind before he escaped, it is unlike anything I've ever seen before."

"Sethyas Velas has given me 20 new writs for the Morag Tong."

While the quests are fine, I personally don't like to involve any of the strongholds due to their changing nature. And of course, I need to read that really big modding manual I downloaded. biggrin.gif

So, do you have a fanfic character. Do you want him or her in the game? Send me every single bit of information you can and I'll see what I can do. smile.gif

And just because the mod isn't complete without it, here's a little promotional screenshot. I call this one: Two Luper Alkads, can the world survive? tongue.gif

Note: The visible glitches are not caused by the mod. This is my underpowered graphics card trying to keep up.

Posted by: treydog Nov 19 2006, 06:00 PM

This is a brilliant idea. There ought to be some pics of Trey around somewhere- if not, I will post one or two. Basically, a stock Breton with blonde hair in a tail and a full set of glass armor with round glass shield. Stats I can provide if needed. Will also be glad to write dialogue- don't know diddly about scripting, though.

Posted by: Lord Revan Nov 19 2006, 07:16 PM

I wonder if you could do this in Oblivion? huh.gif

Posted by: jack cloudy Nov 19 2006, 08:08 PM

Thanks, Treydog. A picture of the face would be really helpful. Where would you like him to appear? Please give a place on Vvardenfell, I don't have Tribunal nor Bloodmoon.

Revan, I'm sorry but that won't be possible unless someone else does it. Just like I don't have Tribunal or Bloodmoon, I don't have Oblivion. sad.gif

Posted by: Black Hand Nov 19 2006, 08:43 PM

I wasnt saying that those HAD too be the quests, I just was giving random sentences that formed in my mind at the time. Sort of an added incentive to having the Fan Fic characters rather then just a novelty.

I would like to have Sethyas in the Mod, though I hardly think he qualifies as Legend just yet. If you need a pic, click on the link in my sig, hes already in-game (No Hood though, rather people saw his whole face.)

My Idea for him? This may seem complex, but if you're able too, make him appear after the player is Grandmaster in the Tong as the Exalted Master, and have him appear in the Ald'Ruhn Chapter of the Morag Tong Guild.

Background: You may call me Sethyas Velas, Grandmaster, Loyal servant to you and Mephala.

Writ: Yes, now that you are Grandmaster, there are several high-profile Writs that must be fulfilled. We currently have one on.....

And thats where you can add some NPC's randomly throughout Vvardenfell, and kill em for some money. Add some 'bonuses' if the kill was a sucessful sneak attack. You know "None dared to report my actions"

Ideas: (Something I actually have) An Expensive ring with CE 15 points of night eye, called the "Morag Tong Signet Ring"

Bonemold Long Bow enchanted with Paralyze 10 seconds on target, soultrap for 20 seconds on target. I call it the "Soul-Catcher Long Bow"

etc, etc. If anyone has more Ideas, lemme know!

I´ve got a lot of pictures of Serene, and I´d like to write dialogue as well....mmmmm great mod-idea I think

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Nov 19 2006, 11:59 PM

If only I had Morrowind on the computer...

But it would be neat to see Simion Mandrake in there. Heck, you could even make him a villian if ya wanted to.

Makes sense, given his murderous ways...

I'll have to get back to you on info and such. I did post skills and stuff for him on that one thread that Black Hand made in the General Discussion section. It mentions FanFic Characters in the name.

Posted by: Taillus Nov 20 2006, 04:10 AM

Oh man this is going to be excellent. I am going to love this. Hopefully it will draw more and more people into the Fanfics. Myself Jack, I have just located my face and custom armor. I will go on in an attempt to catch a screenshot for you and then we will talk where Taillus is going to show up. All in due time though, let us not burn poor Jack out. I have also stumbled upon a shoddy Modding manual myself in hopes that I can be of some assistance. At the very least I will write some dialogue for myself and any one else looking to have a character in this spectacular mod!

Hmmm... Always-He-Lingers-in-the-Sun could appear as a Blades trainer in Ebonheart (his home base). He could train the PC in short blade, sneak, and probably acrobatics. He's more or less an acrobatics master, actually. Of course, he'd only train for cash and booze. Or he could provide a quest to destroy the Suran slave market!

Posted by: jack cloudy Dec 21 2006, 11:02 AM

Sounds neat, but I do require the pics. Now that I am officially expelled from school (till januari), I should have time to work on it. smile.gif

Are you gonna work on this anymore Jack? Cuz I'd love to help, I do have a knack for dialogue apparently, and I have a way of whipping everyone into shape! (You have 15 New Messages.)

Posted by: jack cloudy Dec 30 2006, 08:29 PM

I am. I'm trying to figure out how to do the writs. While I'm at it, I was thinking of making a large (yes, I'm ambitious) questline involving all of the new characters. I just need to figure out what kind of questline.

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Dec 30 2006, 08:52 PM

Evil/Crazed Simion is at your service for that. He could be a potential enemy for our hero. Seems that a lot of known characters are assassins, so maybe a clash or in-fighting amongst them would work?

Posted by: canis216 Dec 31 2006, 01:42 AM

Well, there was a Morag Tong writ out on Always-He-Lingers-in-the-Sun... but he's also a Blade, which could make the situation a little messy for Sethyas Velas, who's both Morag Tong and a Blade...

Heck, I don't know. I still like the idea of A-H-L-i-t-S giving the player a mission to destroy the Suran Slave Market in some way--wouldn't that be great? Could have all sorts of repercussions to that...

Posted by: canis216 Jan 20 2007, 07:12 PM

Anything new on this front? Any way I can help (poor poor modder that I am)?

Posted by: jack cloudy Jan 20 2007, 07:23 PM

Not really, I'm making a list of the characters and trying to figure out how to combine them. So far, I think it could start with Simion attacking the player somewhere after which the player goes on an investigation which eventually leads him to dealing with all the others. So while the Slave market won't be destroyed forever, I do think that Al can go with the player and do some mayhem there. biggrin.gif

Speaking of that, I personally believe that having the fanfic characters tag along with you for some while would be pretty neat. Gamewise, it would be your run of the mill 'escort character x from A to B'. Storywise, it would range from escorts to plain out assaults/assasinations. I believe that the standard protection AI would be more than sufficient considering that the characters I'm working with are better fighters than the pilgrims/slaves you meet in Morrowind.

So, would 'escort' missions like those be fun or should I avoid them like the plague?

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Jan 20 2007, 08:01 PM

Well when the escort is actually capable of fighting harder creatures and such, I personally don't mind the escort style missions. Perhaps it could be a series of escorts with the same person. Take for example that Al wants to hit up a bunch of slave markets, so you take him to Suran, take that out, then maybe you go across the river and deal with Arvel and Dren Plantations, or possibly get out to Tel Ahrun and free the slaves there. That would be something that would float my boat.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jan 20 2007, 08:34 PM

Ok, you'll get a series of 'escorts' but not over the top. Sethyas for example will likely remain in the guildhall (because he also has a few writs for the Grandmaster and I don't want to mess up by leaving him in the middle of nowhere.)

As an added treat, I'll show you the current idea of the questline's start.

If the player goes to Pelagiad, he might meet a Breton (Simion) in the tavern. Simion talks to you and says mainly nothing, though he does give you the advice not to spent the night. He says that there might be a disturbance at midnight.

The Player(PC) ignores this advice and rents a room. The player should then rest till midnight. That night, a cloaked NPC attacks PC. PC fights off NPC and investigates the corpse which leads to the NPC being involved with the Black Brotherhood. [Topic added: Death assassins] Specifically, the DB had targeted the Halfway Tavern’s inhabitants for assassination. (So the PC is for once not the actual target. Just a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.)

Going downstairs, the PC will find more bodies. Naturally, everyone is awake and rather frightened. Investigating the bodies will bring nothing new, just more DB assassins. Talking to the the NPCs about [Death assassins] will reveal a man dressed in black who literally slaughtered the assassins.[Topic added: man dressed in black] For a moment it appeared as if he would strike down the innocent as well but he fled as if he was frightened of himself.

Asking people outside about [man dressed in black] will reveal that he ran south and soon vanished.

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Jan 20 2007, 08:48 PM

Hehe, that sounds sweet. I really need to get Morrowind for the PC once this mod is done....

Posted by: jack cloudy Jan 20 2007, 10:00 PM

Ok, I ran into a little problem.

Here's the situation. I decided to quit the planning for a moment and actually do something. So I made the blackened chitin textures for Al and applied them to the armour mesh (renamed of course). I also learned then that changing the object mesh wasn't enough, you also have to make a new bodypart.

Now here's the deal. If I deck out a random Dunmer in it, it looks fine. If I load it on Al though, he remains in a total state of undress. Nothing, not even his bodyparts getting replaced with a blank (invisible) mesh. He just looks as if he isn't even wearing it. I checked the armour stats and light armour is the highest he has. Is there something special that has to be done with beast races?

Posted by: canis216 Jan 21 2007, 12:12 AM

I don't know, but I've also ran into this problem. You might inquire on the Morrowind Mods forum on the official TES site or, if you're not registered on it, I can inquire about it. Otherwise, you could just skip work on the armor, since he'll be wearing a robe over it anyway.

Posted by: Black Hand Jan 21 2007, 01:57 PM

Ah, sorry. Forgot a Tad bit about this...Shall I write up some writs?

Posted by: jack cloudy Jan 21 2007, 02:26 PM

Please do, Sethyas is your character so you should be allowed to decide on some things.

I have another question for you people, this time regarding my own character, Luper Alkad. Those who have read my fanfics about him may have recognized that he uses some high-profile items. Namely, the unique and legendary artefacts known as Lord's Mail and Chrysamere. If I would give him those ingame, it would lead to an awkward situation because they were no longer unique. So, how to remedy that?

My idea is this: Since Luper's armour is covered by cloth, I figured I could hide the Lord's Mail and also remove its enchantment (the player can't invoke the armour's power because of the cloth. cheap explanation but it works.) This would keep the original Lord's Mail as the better choice in the end. Chrysamere is a different story. If I want Chrysamere to be true to the stories, it should have a constant effect reflect of about 70% (Luper is one hell of a tennis player). Much more powerful than the original. So I'm not too sure about the sword, it sounds a bit too uber. Then again, if the player decided to kill the Redguard and succeeded, it would make for one hell of a reward.

Does anyone have a better idea?

Speaking of Uber, I also made Kills-You-Death, Al's daedric dagger. Using standard cost calculations and giving it the requested charge, the user (Al in this case) can strike for a whopping 3000 times before running dry. With each strike absorbing 25 points of health, I think it might be wise to either increase the cost or lower the charge so that you can actually use up the charge before you've slaughtered everyone on the island. What do you think, Canis?

Posted by: canis216 Jan 21 2007, 05:00 PM

Well, Kills-You-Dead is supposed to be a 'legendary' weapon of a sort... but you could lower the charge.

Posted by: Zelda_Zealot Mar 21 2007, 06:59 PM

Any new info on this? I just discovered it and found it very interesting, please let me know how it is going.

Posted by: Agent Griff Jun 13 2007, 04:55 PM

So what is the final list of fanfic characters? This mod sounds interesting. If interesting dialogue is also added, I think it will be a blast to play.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 13 2007, 05:38 PM

Gah, don't tell me I forgot about this! ohmy.gif

Ok, I've dug it up from the pile of dust. Wew, at least it survived all the harddisk cleanings I've done lately.

Ahem, character list. Ok, here we go. Name of character followed by writer.

Simion Mandrake (Metal Mallet.)
Sethyas Velas (Black Hand.)
Trey of High Rock (Treydog.)
Serene of Cyrodiil (Minque.)
Always-He-Lingers-in-the-Sun (Canis. Oh, and the character will probably be called Al in-game, with his full name only in certain dialogue options.)
Luper Alkad (me.)
Taillus (Taillus)

And since I'm feeling up for it, I'm going to add in some of my others as well.
Ro-El Frost (He's a spy, sort of. He should be a good source of information.)
Ra'trith, also known as the embodiment of darkness. (If there's a real bad Dude in Black needed, I'd say he fits the bill.)
Novis (Can't give you his last name. That's a mayor plot point. Anyway, he's a battlemage type, and a fricking coward.)

There's still room for Arthago though. Care to have him around?

Posted by: Agent Griff Jun 13 2007, 07:36 PM

I see you understood where I was getting at. tongue.gif

Always the sly judge of character. Yeah, why not?

You could have him around on a mission for Lhotun in Morrowind. Probably assasinating somebody who Lhotun finds dangerous. He'd be a young Redguard skilled with Longswords and medium armour. Based on what I've already written, I think you can find a proper style for his dialogue.

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Jun 15 2007, 01:28 AM

Haha, I need to get Bloodlust finished so I can finally make some more memorable characters! tongue.gif

So, currently, what plans have ya got for the use of Simion? I can certainly provide some brainstorming if need be.

Posted by: canis216 Jun 17 2007, 05:09 AM

I'd actually suggest calling Always-He-Lingers-in-the-Sun 'Heik-Auri' in-game, as that is his given name.

One other issue with him is that, when I've tried to mod him into my own games, he has a tendency to use his crossbow and only his crossbow in combat. I'd rather he use Kills-You-Dead in close combat situations, since it is more effective than his other weapons when taking the enchantment into account. Might we be able to script our "legends" for more intelligent weapon use somehow? Otherwise it might be best to just take away Heik-Auri's accessory weapons--I'd rather no one be able to beat him cheaply just because of bad AI.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 17 2007, 07:32 AM

Griff, medium armour comes in several flavours. Since he's from Hammerfell, I suppose that the Western armour forms are best. So that would mean Chainmail. Or didn't he have some form of ultra-light custom steel? Would modded steel armour do?

Mallet, Simion is going pretty much the same way as in Bloodlust. He starts out as just a retired assassin, but after defending the Pelagiad inn from the DB, he starts going nutcase slowly. Maybe I should add a script similar to Lorkhan's heart. Unless hit with Silverbrand in the final battle, he'll simply regenerate.

Canis, I know what you mean by bad AI. Most archers I've seen tend to run backwards while shooting. They only draw their daggers when backed into a corner. I think the Marksman script is responsible. I'll have to check and maybe search the net to see if there is a better version hanging around.

Now if you excuse me, the caretaker of our church has been in the bussiness for 40 years, so we're going to pull out all the stops and hold a grand ceremony. It will be crowded up on the altar.

Edit: I've made a mod that should make the NPC switch to melee sooner. At double the old distance if everything's correct. Want me to send it to you? I haven't tested it but I doubt there are any bugs. All I did was change 2 numbers in the script. Give Al the marksmantoggle script and tell me what happens.

Posted by: Agent Griff Jun 17 2007, 03:51 PM

Yeah, of course. Modded steel is fine. I can't remember that well since the last update was a few months ago.

Posted by: canis216 Jun 17 2007, 05:55 PM

Yeah Jack, if you want to send me that script I will be very happy to test it. Viper-bolts are nasty, but Kills-You-Dead is, well, Kills-You-Dead. It lives up to the name. Can you PM me a link to that mod, or shall I need to PM you my e-mail address?

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 17 2007, 06:16 PM

I don't have anywhere to host it, so please give me your email.

Posted by: canis216 Jun 17 2007, 06:28 PM

OK, I sent you a PM.

Posted by: The Metal Mallet Jun 17 2007, 07:48 PM

Hehe, sweet idea with the Silverbrand idea. I'm liking it a lot. I now feel that I really need to invest in a PC version of Morrowind so I can eventually enjoy this mod...

Posted by: Ibis Sep 21 2007, 11:30 PM

This is a good thread. Jack Cloudy, I don't know if you've gotten your armor modding question answered at TES forum by now; but the answer to why your PC appears to not be wearing the armor is that you have to assign each body part within the Properties slots of the armor peice, after you make the body parts and before you put it on. You should have 2 or 3 major meshes for each armor peice = e.g. gauntlets.nif = the body part; gauntlets_1st.nif = the gloved hand holding the weapon in 1st person view & gauntlet_gnd.nif. = the whole assembled worn armor peice.

I am really green and new to the fanfic writing - but I do have a quest weapon to offer. The gnarly bow DragonMaw that buffs the holder's main attributes and marksman skill and DragonTeeth arrows .. long and long-lasting firespell arrows that are so powerful that one can knock back and send flying an entire squad of 6 -8 soldiers and set them ablaze at the same time. An Imperial Weinie Roast, anyone?

The only catch to owning DragonMaw and the DragonTeeth Quiver, made by the master bowyer Cullen = is that you must somehow wrest or wile it away from the half-human redhaired witch Astryal and her purple pet-dragon Kelzy. Kelzy likes to wrestle for it ... burp!

Yup, new npc's based on the famous characters that people on this site have written stories on smile.gif

Speaking of which... how's the progress going on this Jacky my boy?

Well.. You can create your own NPC:s in construction set in an easy way. Shouldn't be too hard to create that..
