I would like to know, too...

Same here. I tryed downloading it once, I almost broke my computer in anger. My computer almost never works so it might just be me who is unable to run the Emulaterthingy.

The newest one should work as far as I know. Meaning DOSBox 0.63.

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1&begaming_website_session=ba00dcec6c3c258212c2a745a2917a84

I assume you're using Windows, so it's the second one from the top, "Win32 installer".

anyone know how to save your game on Arena? im confused...

Posted by: 9of9 Jul 11 2005, 05:08 PM

Newest one works just fine, as well as most of the ones before it I think huh.gif

I think you need to create savegame folders in your Arena root folder, something along the likes of SAVE0 SAVE1 etc. to correspond to your save slots. Oddly, looking back on my Arena folder, I no longer see my savegame folders, so that might be a Daggerfall fix... tongue.gif Try it anyway, should work.

No, I got it. you press escape and click 'save' lol.

lol, it's laggier than morrowind laugh.gif

That helps tongue.gif

Ctrl+F12 a couple of times to add CPU cycles to DOSBox, usually makes it a tiny bit better; though I've never been able to get it running perfectly smooth.

Darn! Rane beat me to it! tongue.gif

Anyway, be sure to read the instructions on how to set up/use Arena. Trust me, the instructions have helped me increase the framerate, how to save, how to fight, etc. So, I suggest you read that. Good luck, guys! smile.gif

(Grrr, I'm still in the darn prison! Darn those rats and this whole-'my sword should be hurting the enemy, but it's not'-bug/glitch/whatever.! Can never tell if I'm hitting them or not untill the last second. *sigh* And I hate it whenever the goblins push me in the water, making me lose health and fetigue(sp?) till I die! )

But, but, but! ... I was so close to getting out of there! So close! There's these two goblins that are blocking my way-- literally! indifferent.gif They keep pushing me into the water, making me die... It's like they are waiting for me to swim to them. They seem to stalk near the shore where I'm trying to swim to... Goblins have become... smart? blink.gif

lol - you're urther along than me.

I've only fought rats...

That starter dungeon is the hardest I have ever experienced tongue.gif I have never been able to get out of it yet on the no less than half a dozen times I have tried to start playing Arena now smile.gif (at least, not without a trainer!). Now that I know at least where I'm meant to go to get out, I might try it again sometime soon.

Tip: When getting out, make sure you have the text with the passwords ready (or, at least, be aware that you need one) - nothing worse than getting to the end, finding you have a password and then abandoning that game because you can't find the password laugh.gif

How'd you come up with that?

Have you played a lot of RPGs? tongue.gif

Posted by: 9of9 Jul 16 2005, 11:30 PM

First bit... I read it on forums whilst trying to get Arena/Daggerfall to work. Seeing as its my Daggerfall folder that has the Save folders, I'm fairly sure it is the Daggerfall fix smile.gif And yes, I've played a good few RPGs, although Arena is the only oldie I've played recently, so my dungeoning skills may be growing a bit mellow nowadays tongue.gif

Hi all!

Does anyone have any information or links about getting Daggerfall to run on Windows XP using Dosbox?

Dosbox seems quite cryptic to me.

Thanks!!

There is a direct3d patch that can increase performance by up to 20%

http://www.si-gamer.net/gulikoza/dosbox/dosboxcvs-060318.zip

Download, open, and put ALL the files into your DosBOX directory. (Usually C:\Program Files\DosBOX 0.63\)

Go into Start\Programs\Dosbox 0.63\Dosbox.conf

When you open it there will be a list of what different things say. On the list for output it should say..

"# output -- What to use for output: surface,overlay,opengl,openglnb,openglhq,ddraw,direct3d."

Make sure it says Direct3d, if not, restart this walkthrough

Below that it should say..

"output=surface"

Change that to..

"output=direct3d"

This should improve your performance. Least it does with mine.

-------

Also, setting your Frameskip to 1 increases performance by a good amount without making much a visual difference. Do this by pressing Ctrl+F8
