I post these at Haven and another board I frequent. Figured I might as well start here, too.
A welcome addition from our smaller sister forum over at Haven!
My all-time favourite.
Mm hmm, Calvin & Hobbes is great. All of them were basically slam-dunk humor.
Still have fond memories of reading C&H every Sunday morning, along with The Far Side, Bloom County, Doonsebury (with his gigantic sandwiches), Garfield, and of course Peanuts.
Ha ha
Man I used to love Calvin and Hobbes when I was a kid! I had The Essential Calivin and Hobbes, Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat, and The Days Are Just Packed collection books. I remember one where Calvin is shoveling snow from the drive way, terribly, and he says with a big grin, “Sometimes if you so the job bad enough, you don’t get asked to do it again.”. Good stuff!
Oh yeah, there's the bully kid. Think his name is Moe?
I totally forgot how Hobbes worked until yesterday. He was a stuffed animal whenever adults were around but from Calvin's perspective he was a walking, talking tiger. Heh, Calvin had a Khajiit basically.
I like them all but that one about the newspaper cracked me up this morning pretty good!
Ha ha two bucks. I can't remember if $2 was a lot in the '80s for us kids. I seem to remember getting more than that for chores.
Calvin and Hobbes are as great now as they've ever been
Ah, poor Calvin, he's about to learn that "many" does not mean "all".
Yeah, I remember that day in 4rd grade when the girls pinned me against the school wall and tried to kiss me. Cost me my lunch money for a month but it was worth it.
Bicycle helmets! In that one set of frames up above, the dad is wearing a bicycle helmet. See, those didn't become popular until the '80s. During the '70s (which was my early childhood) we all rode around without them; me and my pack of friends would pretend to be Evel Kenevel too, doing stupid stuff on our bikes. Amazing to think of that now!
So yeah, it may not seem like it now, but seeing the dad wearing a helmet was a new thing back then. I think there may even be a Calvin & Hobbes in which they discussed helmets somehow.
Sound bites, not sound bytes. Hmm. Google says either spelling is correct.
I wonder; did i grow being deprived of knowing how much fun I was having or was I having too much fun to care?
When picking a chewing gum is the most important thing in your life.
Ahh, the simplicity of being a kid
Calvin has the right idea! I too have been sitting around waiting for opportunities!
It has been decades, but I'm sure it's just around the corner!
I think I dozed off for minute and missed it.
Should have brought a book to read.
There's a lot of fun happening these days.
I'm glad they had their vortex goggles on. Not a good idea time travelling without them
I have a sneaky suspicion that the 8:30pm Calvin is going to say that he didn't do the homework because he was planning on skipping ahead to 8am and picking it up from there...
Both Calvins find excuses to blame the other one
Can't deny the insightfulness of the Hobbeses!
Calvin and Hobbes in COLOR???
The Sunday Funnies version.
Pay up!
I wish I could eat bowl after bowl of sugared cereal again with absolutely no qualms whatsoever
Aren't you glad you know exactly what you are putting into your belly, and how bad it is for you, too?
Calvin is a child and a grownup at the same time. No way I had that kind of understanding at his age
Five bucks to see a movie. Man, those were the days.
Originality and Truth; we certainly could use more of both, especially the truth part.
I really do love these comic strips. I never read them back in the day. But they are a lot of fun now.
Two things I get from these; Calvin is a jerk and an extrovert and Hobbes is his conscience desperately trying to get through to him
No new strip? Is Kaneyboi on vacation too?
On that note, time to get some fried chicken for dinner...
I notice a big smirk on Hobbs' face just as Calvin is opening the fridge... "Let the show begin!"
Oh, those spoil-sports
I've often wondered why super heroes always have to have skin-tight suits
I get you, Calvin. I get you
It's like when people always leave the pool/lake when it starts raining
Before wiki was a thing. And you still can't trust anyone
So of course I had to look it up. Apparently the Germans and the Austrians blame each other. The Germans call them Wieners - Wien being Vienna - and the Austrians call them Frankfurters. They become hot dogs when served in a bun, which is an American idea. And there is a lot of disagreement on what should or should not accompany them.
Then I got distracted by kielbasa, which just any sausage in polish, but much more specific in the USA. Plus EU directives on what is permitted to be called a sausage. Never let a eurocrat into your kitchen.
Now I know why we wear clothes.
Not bad by a stuffed tiger to hang his "friend" up in a tree
Not just hang him up, but hang him up naked. Might as well have painted the target on that pink body.
I wouldn't doubt that Calvin wrote the script for the movie Mars Attacks.
Calvin needs broadband!
Props to Calvin's dad P
The original prepping bag!
Oh, the things I wish I had known.
Anyone that age able to use such thought processes and words should be sent to university, not the principal
Also, I wanted to mention that since I'm not usually here on the weekends, anyone is welcome to post these in my stead. i pull them from reddit.com/calvinandhobbes. There is a bot that posts the daily strips.
Simple man with complex tastes, I never realized how much like Calvin I am.
Teacher saw through that one quick enough.
Truth isn't always popular.
Is this how Saw was in his childhood?
Amazing what one can build with Tinkertoys.
Calvin is my spirit twin
Not sure why, but there hasn't been a daily strip at r/calvinandhobbes the last two days. Must be something wrong with the bot that posts them.
As someone who once wrote Ode to Mudcrab I can relate
A scary twist in Calvin and Hobbes and Kaneyboi is now Boo - it must be October!
Sounds like a project as good as any
I agree. Sometimes I think... too much.
Gotta love Calvin's imagination
You did the right thing, Calvin
I haven't forgotten about these - the bot is broken again.
Yay, Calvin is back! And pissed!
I think he has a secret admirer.
BUSTED!!
Is this what's called, "Thinking outside the box"?
So apropos to the way I feel today.
Bot is defunct again.
Or maybe Calvin just took a break
Sometimes the truth is a harsh mistress
Calvin has been watching the Grinch again.
"When Calvin grew up he became the actor playing Saw"
Hobbes; the original ice bucket challenger!
I'll have to show more respect when I toss that shovel full of snow from now on. Oh dear, that brings up issues with using a snow blower.
Renee should create a character named Sal Monella.
I wonder what ladder Calvin uses for making all those tall snowmen?
I'm on my way to make a cup.
Gonna post this one from Sunday as a bonus. Too good not to share.
Oh, that was brilliant!
I have a comic book that has the same kind of grown-up fantasy style here and there. Priceless
So now we know Susy doesn't like not-fresh squid either. Another piece of the puzzle
Calvin consecrated 200 snowballs?
I see a report in the making that in as many words possible basiclly says, Dick and Jane ran up the hill.
