Chorrol.com _ General Discussion _ Post Your Desktop

I do not think I have seen one of these threads here, and let's face it, it is a staple of forum life. Lately all of my desktops have been from my Oblivion characters. Here is my current one, Morghak:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/galateadesktop.jpg
Edit: Since I am going to use her in the TF, I changed her name to a more Lore-friendly Morghak.

Well... actually http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3238&st=0 but its been dead for over a year.
Anyway I have a little gadget which I love - AWC, the automatic wallpaper changer. Give it a folder full of pictures and it goes through them randomly and changes your wallpaper however often you tell it too (I like 4 changes per hour), so my desktop is ever changing.

SubRosa, Morghak looks great! I knew you had that mod, but the results are beautiful! She looks even nicer than the gorgeous Mazoga!
Olen, NICE scene. Did you go camping at Lake Rumare? That's what it looks like. Or maybe I have been spending too much time in Cyrodiil?
Sorry, I don't know how to actually post my desktop. Here, however is my current desktop screenie (yes, of you know who. . . ):

The picture is Loch Laggan, it's certainly a bonnie part of the world. I use quite a few of my photos for desktops, they have memories as well as being pretty (sometimes).
As for posting desktops just open it up and hit print screen to copy it to the clipboard then paste it into an image program (MS Paint is sufficent for those using windows). A nicer thread look can be achieved by uploading a thumbnail too then having it as the link to the main image.

I very much wish http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v518/Kazaera/Screenshot-2.png?t=1282752237 was mine but it's not; it's http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=Telvanni#/d1vbl17. That's my Ubuntu boot; I have Vista for games (i.e., Morrowind) but I'm still using the default desktop there.
On my work computer, I use a number of http://brownsharpie.courtneygibbons.org/ which change randomly. It's awesomely funny but to get a LOT of the jokes and especially the best jokes you need end-of-undergrad/postgrad level knowledge in (pure) maths... I have to prove my maths geek cred, you know.

Eh, why not.
Just upgraded to 7 (Windows Vista is officially almost as bad as freakin' ME!!!!) and will soon have XP up on a virtual system so I can play Morrowind again.

Ugh! Fake paneling!
My Dad put it up in the basement waaay back in the 70's. Made the whole place so dark and dreary. After he passed away in 2004, I couldn't rip it down fast enough! Give me drywall any day, thank you very much!
But I guess that's why they call it wallpaper in the Windows world.

I think my sentiments are echoed only by those who survived the '70's in the US. As for looking good, I would say the image was of good enough quality that I could recognize it as fake paneling! And if
you like it, that's what matters.
Your computer, not mine, right?

I really have no current desktop per se - my computer is set to rotate through a batch of images of my choosing. It changes about every five minutes or so.
So here's one I took about half an hour ago:
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab186/hauteecole/Desktop%20Screenshots/CurrentDesktop1.jpg
Then five minutes later: http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab186/hauteecole/Desktop%20Screenshots/CurrentDesktop2.jpg
Then: http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab186/hauteecole/Desktop%20Screenshots/CurrentDesktop3.jpg
I just love taking pictures of paths and roads. Don't know why.
And this http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab186/hauteecole/Desktop%20Screenshots/CurrentDesktop4.jpg is one of my favorites. Looking east from Hurricane Hill. On the knoll just below you can see the path I had walked along. Just beyond its top the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center is visible.
These photos are just four of over three hundred I took along Hurricane Ridge and from Hurricane Hill (the summit of the path) one day in July 2009. Hurricane Ridge is located in Olympic National Park (in Washington State) and is accessed from the Port Angeles gate. The day was perfect and I had a wonderful time. The whole walk was about three miles, but it went up several hundred feet, and I took my time. What a way to lose a day!

Btw, you can make things a little easier for people looking at your pictures to link to only the image, http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/3956/desktopshot3.jpg, and spare people multiple clicks to get to it.
Posted by: Thomas Kaira Mar 26 2011, 10:15 PM
That's what I used to do before ImageShack removed that capability from their website (and I couldn't be bothered to sign up). I'll need to make an account with them real quick to get that sorted.
EDIT: http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/3956/desktopshot3.jpg
As for why Anvil looks so different, the city is open now (as well as Visible When Distant). That is as in no loading screens, I can just walk right through the gates.

It's the best image hosting site, it autogenerates thumbnails for you, and forum sized pictures, and lets you edit them somewhat online (rotations and resolution).
I very much recommend it.

So I finally get a screenshot worthy of my new Windows-in-a-Mac system.
Yes, I'm replaying the MQ on the PC to follow along with my story (in most of the details).
And yes, that's Julian aboard Blanco (though with Slof's horses he's not as white as the vanilla Anvil horse, but he's got all his "stallion" equipment!).
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab186/hauteecole/Desktop%20Screenshots/JulianandBlanco042811.jpg
Mods used in this screenshot: Slof's Horses (basic and extra) with sbSlof's for the saddlebags. There are other mods also loaded, but none of them are apparent in this screenshot.

Is there literally a mod out there that adds visually identifiable stallions based on their, ah, completeness?
Posted by: Acadian Apr 29 2011, 12:44 PM
Yes. Slof's basic mod provides for readily identifiable stallions, mares and geldings. The wonderful instructions in her read me allow one to (fairly) easily modify almost any feature on a horse, including its sex. Fabulously customizable. Differing styles and colors of coat, mane, tail, tack, accents, etc. And reins! How could the vanilla game have forgotten reins? Slof to the rescue!
Posted by: haute ecole rider Apr 29 2011, 05:48 PM
@Acadian - thanks for your comments regarding the customizability of Slof's horses. I ran into the CS and made some adjustments.
I think I'll keep this desktop a while though, just because of the composition and the balance of colors in this one. It'll be hard for me to top this!

Wow! You are right, Anne Stokes is fantastic! I love her paintings. Not in the least because the women she portrays actually have clothes on, and do not have ginormous fake breasts.
The idea is to take a screenshot of your actual desktop, not simply the background picture you are using. Just go to your desktop, press Print Screen, then open your graphics app and paste the pic in.

Yes, my bro-in-law's girlfriend gave me the link a couple months ago, and I've been in love with Anne Stokes' artwork ever since. One of few artists who seem to capture the truth of womanhood. (Of course, being a woman makes that easier for her, I think
)
Okay, I'm trying to figure this out. But where can I find "Print Screen"? I'm looking all over the place, trying to find it, but no luck... It's probably really simple, but I can't seem to find it... I'll keep looking. If I am successful, I'll update this post, but otherwise, I'm still lost...

If you have a Wintel computer there should be a key on your keyboard named Print Screen, or shortened to PRT SCRN. If you have a Mac http://www.techiecorner.com/138/how-to-do-print-screen-in-mac-os-x/

I found the key on my keyboard, but it's not working... I have a laptop, though, so does that make a difference? I'll see if I can figure out my settings--maybe I have something disabled or something...
Posted by: SubRosa May 1 2011, 11:35 PM
If you have a laptop, you may have to press the Function (or FN) key at the same time you press the Print Screen key.

Ah, yes! I see now! because the print screen key is also the home key, and home is the primary function of that key. The print screen part is in a little box, and I knew there had to be a way to get it to work...Never noticed the function key before, but it has the same little box around it! The mystery is solved! I shall try and see if it works! Thanks!

New machine, with really wide http://ghastley.org/images/desktop.png
It's a picture of a wheat field in Kansas, which is the name of the machine, because I reached "K" in the alphabet.
I also have Dakota, Egypt, Georgia, Hawaii and Indiana running. Florida just got terminal motherboard sickness, and California, Bali, and Alaska still run, but are too old to use. J is for Jetserver, which is an HP dedicate printer server. Alaska used to run Windows NT 3.51, but also did a stint as Antarctica (running Linux and with penguins on the desktop). All the machines have/had wallpaper matching their name. That's true even for the servers, where you rarely see them.

Very interesting naming convention. My dad has a Star Wars theme. Luke, Han, Yoda, ect.

I've never named a PC, but named all my cars. Maybe the PC's would run better if I did. My last PC would have been named a stream of curse words.

Whoa....very nice image.
In this contest my non existent wager is placed on the red cloaked combatant. All else being equal, he looks to be houses more solidly in plate, whereas the near warrior's kit includes a number of comparatively lightly armored areas. If I see it correctly, there's an unarmored gap between helm and shoulders exposing a portion of neck. These differences in protection should mean that, in a RL fight, Red Cloak will not need to rely as heavily on half-swording and/or pommeling as his adversary. Considering they both sport shields, those techniques might be difficult to pull off. Then again, the near fellow has, for whatever reason, elected to not utilize his near-elbow shield strap, rendering it far less affective (I should think). But what do I know of such matters? Next to nothing, truth be told.

The neck area's a bit confusing. It looks like it might be a curved plate attached to the cuirass, not bare neck. The thighs look more of a target.
"Go for the thighs, Boo!"

Hmmm...I see what you mean about the neck area. Yes, there is apparently something there, though I'd not sure what or how protective it is (compared to plate). For sure the thighs are vulnerable. Also a large area surrounding his right underarm. Positioning makes it hard to tell, but it looks to me as though the lelf upper arm area might be better protected than the right (not counting shield), which can occur in RL armors.

To add to the nerdy armor discussion, I think with that gear I would ditch the shield and arming sword, and instead use a poll axe or zweihander...

In the game, there's actually a Lucerne polehammer lying around not far from where they're fighting.

I think I've had this wallpaper since I got this computer? I know cause I got it shortly before Transistor (the game this is from) released and it was the first thing I beat on it.
Continuing the tradition, I'm thinking of replacing it with something from Pyre, the more recent game from the same developer.

Since assembling the "new" PC I've contented myself with the stock Windows 10 background image so many seem to prefer, the lady jogging on a beach. Until today that is. This morning I snapped an image of the Imperial City at distance during dawn. It was intended as a proof of concept shot, to define a rough framing before adding my OCOv2 avatar into the mix. Only, he proved so difficult to position that the sun rose too high in the sky before I could capture a "polished" image. The rough draft, though not ideal, seemed well suited as a desktop background, which it now is.
https://i.imgur.com/DfkdZqD.jpg (original image 1920x1080).
Am I mistaken, or is the Imperial City seen at distance the most iconic visual representation of the entire Elder Scrolls series? I can think of none more recognizable, unless it is to be found in Skyrim, the series entry I am least familiar with.

Nice! Khajiit thinks your assertion about the Imperial City being most iconic is fair. It even now applies to ESO because of the whole Alliance War thing fighting over control of the city.

This is my first non-photo / non-artwork train wallpaper. It of course is a screenshot captured during a TS2021 passenger train run. I think it looks realistic enough to fool the eye into thinking it a photo (on casual glance). The J50 is a loco whose looks I was at first not fond of. I bought it for little of nothing during a Steam Sale, mainly because a decent number of Steam Workshop scenarios require it. I've since grown rather fond of its looks. Fun to drive too. It would be hard for me to show my desktop wallpaper as it's a slideshow of 65 screenshots from my TES game play. Most are from Morrowind while one is Battlespire inspired.
I had to get rid of the Steam games, for some reason Steam doesn't like it when you have games running separate from it, messes them up for some reason.
