Chorrol.com _ General Discussion _ Now Listening To

Well, I missed this good ol' thread, so I am pulling out My Necromancer robe and raising the dead. Anyways, I believe the last post, other than the closer, was

"`Dantrag`

Don't mind if I old-school punk this place up a bit do you?

Garden of Serenity - Ramones.

The Ramones have almost no musical talent, but they are somehow still awesome. It baffles even me."

Not at all, especially if its the Ramones. But no musical talent? They were pretty fresh when they started, but they grew amazing. Remember when they covered "What a wonderful world"? It was dead on with punk stylings.

Well, I'll see your Garden of Serenity with a Happy Birthday Mr. Burns by the Ramones, and add a We're a Happy Family by the one and only, Ramones.

Symphony X - King of Terrors cool.gif

One of my favorites, but I have yet to buy THe Odyssey.

Anyways, on the Ramones; they really don't have much talent, but I like them still. They pretty much began my guitar playing; my first song was Blitzkreig Bop, and then I just went through learning more and more of their songs. Most are just the same three or four power chords over and over. So when I say no musical talent, it's in no way an insult. The stuff they playa is very fun, especially because you can add your own stuff to it, and play it with a bunch of friends on other instruments without hours of practice. Fun times.

I own a few CDs and a tshirt of theirs. Tommy better live awhile though; he's the only one left.

He's the only one left until I clone the others. Joey Ramone is unstoppable! I see what you mean though. Some of their songs are very, very easy.

Anyways, Rage Against The Machine- The Battle of Los Angeles.

Stratovarius - Visions.

Seems like this has to be pointed out again.

It is ok to discuss music in this thread.

It is not ok to post one-liners saying what song you are currently listening to.

I agree sire. anyways, I'm listening to Nina Hagen- 99 Red balloons, one of my favourite songs ever. A nice, German cold war song that so far to my knowledge has only been covered well by Gold Finger.

If I'm listening to music it usually means I'm lonely or sad, and I'm listening to it right now. Hanginaround - Counting Crows.

Posted by: Red Oct 15 2005, 04:55 AM

I've heard of those guys, the songs I listened to where pretty good but I can't say I'm they're biggest fan. Also, sorry to hear that you're lonely or sad.

Anyways, I'm listening to Thursday- Understanding in a car crash. I think the lyrics in this song are poetry themselves, but the the instruments really help set the tone for this song. Go buy the album or download it, really doesn't matter to me.

Posted by: Fuzzy Knight Oct 15 2005, 05:37 PM

Now I'm listning to two Norwegian Rock / Metal bands, not at the same time of course. Susperia and Amulet, haven't listened to much of their music but I got some interest in them after the Topp20 program here in Norway where they mostly focused on rock and metal where they showed a video from Susperia - Devil my Care and Amulet played live with their song Crashing into my Room I think it was... Amulet is more of a rock band.

And they also had a the weeks album that was Dream Theater's Awarnes I think it was. So they showed the video of Pull me Under smile.gif And they talked about the genres and sub-genres with Metal and I most say that, there's really so many and there's some I cant tell me different from kvleft.gif

Oh, they also handed out a Strat' that was signed by Iron Maiden - To bad I have a a blank Strat' already laugh.gif

Yes you must pity me more please... now! Lol joking,

If you knew me, you would realize that I'm a sarcastic pessimist, not exactly a bright person. I've never heard of Thursday before sad.gif

I've heard of them. They're pretty good but I've only heard one or two songs. Also, Thursday is a pretty cool band, they're kind of like Finch (Incase you've heard of them) but even better.

Anyways, Guitar Wolf, Planet of the Wolves.

I've been getting the same thing recently. Same as Swedish bands. Must listen to every Hives cd over and over again smile.gif. Right now I'm listening to an amazing song that I hope I havn't already said, Zombie by the Cranberries followed by Pistol Grip Pump. Hehe, I love it when Rage Against the Machine goes kind of heavy punk-rap.

Posted by: ShogunSniper Oct 19 2005, 08:17 PM

picked a random song on da media player, Negative Creep -- Nirvana. pretty nice song, i've gotten it stuck in my head a few times.

Posted by: Dantrag Oct 19 2005, 10:10 PM

Rufio takes the stage with "Above Me"

These guys are awesome, especially live (even though they ended up with the crappy stage at Warped Tour '04)

You a fan, Red? You listen to a lot of that style from what I've gathered. Oh, and which Thursday album do you like better War All the Time or full Collapse?

I'm still undecided as they both have their high points. (one or two lows)

Posted by: Dancing_Bear Oct 20 2005, 03:30 AM

"Mother the sun makes me cry" by The Skygreen Leopards.

If you have rhapsody or some other music program you should give it a listen.
Some weird psychedelic folky kinda music with banjo, guitar, jaw harp and a music box chimey kinda thing on this song. Trippy vocals.

Oh sorry, I must've missed that one.

So let's take it again.

Nightwish - Beauty and the Beast.

Heavy-metal music, singed by an opera singer. I recommend highly. (And I like the lyrics too wink.gif)

Yeah, I like Rufio, but I havn't heard enough of their songs yet to call them one of my favourites. And I really can't decide on War All the Time and Full Collapse, they're both to awsome.

Anyways, War by Edwinn Star. Yes, I speak of the "what is it good for" song.

Oh. My. God.

I just got The Odyssey (the album I was saying that I didn't have yet)

Wow.

Symphony X has outdone itself. Romeo on guitar is amazing, the lyrics are amazing, and rullo rivals Prtnoy and PEart on the drums. Definately gives the progressive metal genre a good name.

The song the Odyssey is about (duh!) Odysseus and his adventures; I really like their portrayal of the story in music form.

The song King of Terrors (which I have been listening to for free from their site for about a month) is bassed on Poes wark The Pit and the Pendulum. Wow.

Go buy! Now!

I'll go finish listening to all of the songs now, maybe I'll get back to you, maybe I'll just get lost in the melodies....oh, wait. I just got lost in 'em.

Here go the Odyssey lyrics.

The Odyssey

[Part I Odysseus' Theme / Overture]

instrumental

[Part II - Journey to Ithaca]

To the one that I love, my journey has begun
When our eyes meet once more there will me peace
The taste of your lips the warmth of your touch
again, forever, two souls as one

Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied
Home - I'm dreaming of home
I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew
to return would make my dreams come true

Seasons of sorrow have stolen all my years
I miss the rolling hills of Ithaca
I've been through battles and cried a sea of tears
but the tide is changing, and with it all my fears

Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied
Home - I'm dreaming of home
I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew
to return would make my dreams come true

Behold the sea and winds of Jove
We set sail guided by the stars above
The ports of Troy escape our view
a cold and stormy fate awaits our rendezvous

Onward we ride, into the raging fury
Setting our course by the moon and sun
We forge ahead seeking glory
Yet the journey has just begun

Onward we ride - nine days we brave her might
we are coming home...

[Part III - The Eye]

Awakened at dawn - Land dead ahead
with the winds of the morning we change course
no remorse, a place forbidden to all

Search all the grounds - find food and water
Yet journey not into the Cave of Woe
long ago, a legend spoke of a beast

A thousand riches hidden deep within the stone
A thousand nightmares mortal's blood forever flows

A mountainous black - engulfed in a shadow
a bone-chilling growl and an Eye of Hate
a ghastly fate - held prisoner by the Eye

Yet he must sleep - as the daylight fades
we focus our senses and sharpen our blade
we take aim - In silence we strike

A thousand riches hidden deep within the stone
A thousand nightmares - blood runs forever - from the Eye...

[Part IV - Circe (Daughter of the Sun)]

We sit adrift on the open sea
The gift of wind, by Zeus, concealed - so carelessly
We break the waves on a course untrue
across the endless plain of blue - a new coast in view

We carouse with the maiden
beneath her eyes the madness lies
...in mystery

I drink deep from the chalice
of gold and jade - my senses fade
...I'm mesmerized

Stay - like those before
I condemn you all - from walk to crawl
...metamorphasized

No - my will it defies her
speak the verse - lift the curse
...she's mesmerized

Am I asleep?
Tell me Daughter of the Sun
There's vengeance in the air and all things will be undone

[Part V - Sirens]

Dire warnings -
told by the sorceress in white
'false bringers of love' - Sirens
echoing songs from above

Wings flowing -
floating on Sea of Lies
I defy their vision
Elysium swallows my cries

Embracing -
maidens of lust stimulate
and manipulate my senses
I welcome a watery grave

Tied steadfast to the mast
tragedy awaits me
I'm falling victim
betrayed by the sea

[Part VI - Scylla and Charybdis]

instrumental

[Part VII - The Fate of the Suitors / Champion of Ithaca]

So this is home...
In the guise of a beggar - Minerva guides my way
I find my kingdom in jeopardy

Vengeance - it swells within me
As I spy so many who eye my Queen
I'll make them pay for this blasphemy... All will see

Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
I will right all the wrongs
Let the Gods sing my song
Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
Let a new life begin
my journey has come to and end

A contest of valor
'to pierce the twelve rings
in a single arrow's flight'
Yet, not a one can string the bow

My veil of silence lifted
All is revealed
revenge burns in my heart
thrashing and slashing down all my foes...to claim the throne

Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
I will right all the wrongs
Let the Gods sing my song
Triumphant - Champion of Ithaca
Let a new life begin
this is the end of my Odyssey

Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied
Home - I'm finally home
It's been twenty years away from all I ever knew
I have returned to make my dream come true

It's a great band. First saw them on a weekly program about music as I said and it was pretty good. Going to get their new album that should come out soon. Three very good songs in my opinion is Crashing into my Room, Breaking News, Naked Eye and Hot Time... wink.gif

Listning to Van Halen - Unchained smile.gif

BTW... Their new album "Amulet - All That Is Solid Melts Into Air" comes out in UK and Europe Nov. 14 so I think u can look from there if it comes out where you live...

at first it almost sounds a bit strong for title music, then it sounds great for title music.

then it gets kinda sad and i stop liking it that much.... i really don't know what i think about it.

Tsunami Bomb- My Machete

Alternative Rock. I was acquainted with them in their early days of obscurity, but as of late they seem to be building quite a fanbase.

Lately they've begun to suck. Not a single original member of the band remains but the lead singer that was there when I first heard them is still there.

Their new guitarist sucks REAL bad and he doesn't yell quite as well as the former did. They also tend to play to fast live.

*hustles over to TES website* blink.gif

Hm.... Reminds me very strongly of his other work. Which isn't necessarily a good thing. His music tends to be very overwrought, and complex. This sort of thing sounds like it's part of a movie soundtrack: a type of music which will be chopped apart and used in short peices in various places.

I haven't heard this one for a while, but it somehow got stuck in my head today:
Papa Roach-Scars

QUOTE
I tear my heart open, I sew myself shut
My weakness is that I care too much
And my scars remind me that the past is real
I tear my heart open just to feel

Kinda matched my mood today. The sky was grey and dark and it was raining and I was in a weird mood today. But how a song I haven't heard for several months, and that on the radio, got stuck in my head is beyond me.

Slipknot-Duality
QUOTE
Push my fingers into my eyes...
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache...
But it's made of all the things I have to take...
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside...
If the pain goes on...
Aaaaaaaah!

I have screamed until my veins collapsed
I've waited last, my time's elapsed
Now, All I do is live with so much fate
I've wished for this, I've bitched at that
I've left behind this little fact:
You cannot kill what you did not create
I've gotta say what I've gotta say
And then I swear I'll go away
But I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise
I guess I'll save the best for last
My future seems like on big past
You'll live with me 'cause you left me no choice

Again, a dark song, but I kinda like it. I was listening to it on the radio for a long time before I found out that it was a Slipknot song. I'm too cheap to spring for a cd, and I don't like downloading music, so I listen to the radio a lot.

Kinks-State of Confusion
QUOTE
All the dirty dishes
Are still in the kitchen sink.
The tumble dryer's broken,
Now the telly's on the blink.
My girlfriend's packed her bags
And moved out to another town.
She couldn't stand the boredom
When the video broke down.
Don't know why I feel so bad.
Is it the weather, or am I going mad?
Don't know why I feel this way.
I don't know whether I'm coming or I'm going,
Can't cover up 'cause it's obviously showing.
It's a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
We're in a state (state)
Of confusion (whooooh).
I don't know whether I'm coming or I'm going.

Should feel happy, should feel glad.
I'm alive and it can't be bad,
But back on planet Earth they shatter the illusion,
The world's going 'round in a state of confusion.

Not so dark this time. This is my theme song, pretty much.

Styx-Everything is Cool
QUOTE
Time is always on our side
Love is there to be our guide
We are spirits pure and free
And all our dreams are meant to be
Realized

But if we were granted just one minute
To choose a dream and stay there in it
How could we decide?

We are a sea of tranquility
We are the new golden age
History is a mystery
We will start it over on
A blank new page

Check in
Check out
No one needs to know
What you're thinking about
In the here
In the now
You can take it in
While you're working it out
'Cause you're into it
When you're out of it
Everything is cool in the land
Of the brave new world

Hey, what can I say? It's a good song to calm me down.

Styx-Heavy Metal Poisoning
QUOTE
Everything is black and white
You are wrong and we are right
First we'll spank your big behinds
Then we'll twist your little minds

I'm Dr. Righteous (I'm Dr. Righteous), and I'm here to sing (yeah!)
That heavy metal (heavy metal) is poisoning
It's a music wasteland, that destroys the young (yeah!)
They're overloaded (overloaded) on sex and drugs, sex and drugs, sex and drugs
And rock and roll!

I'm glad my mom was a headbanger and my dad likes rock, cause otherwise, I'd be getting this speech.

Metallica-The Unforgiven
QUOTE
what I' ve felt
what I' ve known
never shined through in what I' ve shown
never free
never me
so I dub thee unforgiven

they dedicate their lives
to running all of his
he tries to please them all
this bitter man he is
throughout his life the same
he's battled constantly
this fight he cannot win
a tired man they see no longer cares
the old man then prepares
to die regretfully
that old man here is me

Hey, what can I say? Metallica rocks. Rocktallica.

Metallica-The Unforgiven 2
QUOTE
Oh what I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you.... (So I dub thee unforgiven....)

Oh, what I've felt....
Oh, what I've known....

I take this key (never free...)
And I bury it (never me...) in you
Because you're unforgiven too....

Never free....
Never me....
'Cause you're unforgiven too....

Hey, I guess I'm just a metalhead.

Foo Fighters-DOA
QUOTE
Oh you know I did it
It's over and I feel fine
Nothing you could say is gonna change my mind
Waiting and I wait at the longest night
Nothing like the taste to sweet decline

I was down, I fell, I fell so fast
Dropping like the grains in an hourglass
Never say forever cause nothing last
Dancing with the thorns of my buried past

Nevermind there's nothing I can do
Bet your life there's something killing you

It's a shame we have to die my dear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time

I just like the rythym to this song.

System of a Down-BYOB
QUOTE
Kneeling roses disappearing,
Into Moses’ dry mouth,
Breaking into Fort Knox,
Stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!

Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the table cloth.
La la la la la la la la la,
Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

Blast off, its Party time,
And we don't live in a fascist nation,
Blast off , its party time,
And where the hamster are you?
….. Yeah
Where the hamster are you?
Where the hamster are you?

This is very anti-war. I thought for the longest time that this was about the war in the Middle East. I was shocked to find out that it wasn't.

Ok, so I have an odd taste in music. You can stop laughing now. I like just about anything that's rock, and little else. I do like the Goldfinger version of 99 Red Balloons, that's good too. I like rock and anti-war songs. How's that?

I don't buy cds or download music, as one is expensive and the other could get me fined and end up being more expensive. (Plus, it's illegal, and it isn't right to steal music) I listen to the radio a lot, and these songs come up pretty often, and they are some of my favorites.

Currently having a lil' jazz marathon here before heading off to a drumming session, where we'll most likely "rock". kvleft.gif Last friday, I went to a Charlie Hunter Trio concert -- that's Charlie Hunter on his 8-string, John Ellis on sax and Derrek Phillips on drums -- and it was a magical experience.
There was much excellent, varied improvisation, and they just went so well together. Been listening to lots of CH since then.

Skimming through some cool live-stuff at the moment.
http://www.charliehunter.com/video/index.htm - "Just a closer walk with thee" is pretty cool. For those who bothered getting Real Player, give 'em a view!
There're also quite a few audio tracks; http://www.charliehunter.com/audio/index.htm. One I really like there and have been listening through a lot just for kicks, is the "Percussion Shuffle" from the last one there, "Yoshi's, Oakland, CA - December 2000".

Also excellent and pleasant time-killers would be live-recordings from http://www.johnaxsonellis.com/livemusic.htm -- the sax in the trio. I've only gotten through "Moore's alphabet" there, but that's a pretty neat one.

Dig in! cool.gif

In between all that comes Whitesnake and other Tommy Aldridge material. He actually came all the way to Bergen a few weeks ago and had a drum clinic, and much of it still lingers 'round in me head - and me chest, because they'd amplified the bass pretty heavily. Imagine that and a rocker taking a jog on his double pedals. tongue.gif

Now I'm listening to a few new songs.

Korn- Twisted Transistor

QUOTE
A lonely life, where no one understands you
But don't give up, because the music do
Music do
Music do
Music do
Music do
Music do
Music do

Because the music do
And then it is reaching
Inside you forever preaching
F*ck you too
Your screams a whisper
Hang on you
Twisted Transistor

A lonely life where no one understands you? Big deal, everyone has those days. But don't give up because the music do? Oh, wonderful reason not to commit suicide. Because the music understands you. Great. This song is pretty depressing, but I kind of like it.

Saliva-Always
QUOTE
I feel... like you don't want me around...
I guess i'll pack all my things...
I guess i'll see you around...
Its all... been bottled up until now...
as I walk out your door...
all I hear is the sound...

Always... always... always... always... always... always... always...
I just can't live without you...

I love you...
I hate you...
I can't get around you...
I breathe you...
I taste you...
I can't live without you...
I just can't take any more...
this life of solitude...
I guess that i'm out the door...
and now i'm done with you...

I love you...
I hate you...
I can't live without you...

I left my head around your heart...
Why would you tear my world apart...

Always... always... always... always...

I see... the blood all over your hands...
does it make you feel... more like a man...
was it all... just a part of your plan...
the pistol's shakin' in my hands...
and all I hear is the sound...

I love you...
I hate you...
I can't live without you...
I breathe you...
I taste you...
I can't live without you...
I just can't take any more...
this life of solitude...
I guess that i'm out the door...
and now i'm done with you...

I just like the way this sounds. Besides, it's (yet another) lonely song, which is the kind of song that I like.

Black Sabbath-War Pigs
QUOTE
Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!

That song sums up my politics nicely.

Blue Oyster Cult- Flaming Telepaths
QUOTE
Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire
Imprisoned by the thoughts of what you do
Is it any wonder that the joke's an iron
And the jokes on you

Experiments that failed too many times
Transformations that were too hard to find
Poison's in my bloodstream, poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion, I'll settle for lies

Yes I know the secrets of the iron and mind
They're trinity acts a mineral fire
Yes I know the secrets of the circuitry mind
It's a flaming wonder telepath

This song is pretty absurd, but I like it anyways.

And for these ones, I have no excuse.
Fiona Apple-Not about Love
QUOTE
And it doesn't seem fair
That your wicked words should work
In holding me down
No, it doesn't seem right
To take information
Given at close range
For the gag
And the bind
And the ammunition round

Conversation once colored by esteem
Became dialogue as a diagram of a play for blood
Took a vacation, my palate got clean
Now I could taste your agenda
While you spitting your cud

And it doesn't make sense
I should fall for the kingcraft of a meritless crown
No, it doesn't seem right
To take information
Given at close range
For the gag
And the bind
And the ammunition round

This is not about love
'Cause I am not in love
In fact I can't stop falling out

Fiona Apple-Window
QUOTE
So I had to break the window
It just had to be
Better that I break the window
Than him, or her, or me

I had to break the window
It just had to be it was in my way
Better that I break the window
Than forget what I had to say
Or miss what I should see

My mother bought the new Fiona Apple CD, Extraordinary Machine, and it hasn't come out of her radio since then. She hasn't stopped playing it. I think my ears are bleeding from it, I've been finding dried blood in my ears since then. And now the songs are stuck in my head, the one place I thought I'd have refuge. *NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!*

I'm still on my Symphony X binge here, so bear with me.

I am Listening to 'Incantations of the Apprentice'

I'm sure you all would like the story, if not the music as well. It's about a wizard's apprentice. I'm not going to ruin the story of it by telling you, so you're just gonna have to listen to some Symphony X. (no, I'm not advertising.... whistling.gif )

Just to let you know, there's also another song called 'Accolade II' about a knight. Pretty cool. The first Accolade was about the same guy but when he was younger.

I love music that tells stories. biggrin.gif

Right now I'm testing out some Susperia, listning to Chemistry... Norwegian band if I remember totally right, dont know much about them but it's certainly not bad music but out of all their songs I can say that Chemistry is my favourite even tho it's not my "real" taste... By that I mean I dont listen to that much of them, think it would go under Straight Metal.. Heavy Metal dont remember tongue.gif

Can also add that I'm switching between Chemistry and the two other songs - Devil May Care and I Am Pain. I Am Pain thing I got a real good flow with the guitar and drums nearing the middle of the song wink.gif

Yeah, that was a pretty big break up. I wish they could have stayed together but atleast they broke up around their peak instead of slowing down or dissapointing their fans.

Currently A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash and then Late Night Bedroom Rock for the Missionaries by Broken Social Scene.

Lasts 8 minutes, I wouldn't say the singing is the greatest on the song but he handles the guitar well on this song ;)

Sounds cool. I like the Norwegian language. Maybe one day I'll learn to speak it but for now, I'll just admire it.

Anyways, I'm listening to a lot of songs at the moment, so I'll list them in a neat order. Hazaa for order!

Bad Religion- Epiphany. Didn't know this before, but the lead singer earned a masters degree in geology from UCLA and receive his Ph.D. in evolutionary paleontology from Cornell University. Cool song by the way.

Rage Against the Machine- Snake Charmer. Really cool drums in this one, cool guitar too.

the Ramones- We're a Happy Famile. Really cool song about a family living on Queens street.

Nirvana- Smells Like Teen Spirit. Too bad drugs got the best of Cobain, he could've done great things with his life. Amazing classic, though it kind off saddens me to think the world lost Cobain.

Metric- Combat Baby. Not really about what the title makes it sounds like. I highly recomend Metric and the other band the singer is in (Broken Social Scene) to anyone with an open mind about music.

Cypruss Hill- Jump Around. So what If I like a few Hip Hop and Rap songs? Who says I can't?

Well, thats the list.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra- Carol of the Bells

No lyrics this time, it's an intrumental. (hence the "Orchestra" part) Other than that, really, 'nuff said. I think just about anybody who's heard it can agree with me here. This song just rocks. It's an hard rock version of Carol of the Bells, with bits and pieces of other Christmas charols, in rock form, mixed into it, both in the background and foreground. I most definately reccomend listening to this, it's one of the better ways to spend three and a half minutes that I can think of. And, of course, this song matches the season. happy.gif

I have to say this is the first time I've ever found myself headbanging to classical music. Except Beethoven. This is semi classical, semi rock, has piano, electric guitar, it's really a perfect blend of the two.

This song is sometimes partially attributed to Metallica, but I have my doubts that this is Metallica. Not because it's not good enough, this does kinda seem like Metallica material music, and the rock is Metallica style, but I think this one was the Trans-Siberian Orchestra all on it's own, they are certainly talented enough for it, and I've seen no real proof that Metallica had a hand in this.

Here is there official site. http://www.trans-siberian.com/intro.html I'm sure you can see from their intro music their general style, they most definately rock.

Rock ON!
According to their schedule, they'll be here in Buffalo the day before my birthday! How's that for an awsome birthday present?

Done ranting about them, but one last time, ROCK ON! And definately give them a listen.

Not all of them are funny... Putting a Jihad on you is really good. Its like a mix of industrial techno plus a bit of metal, and lots of funky sounds.. It kinds sounds dark at time yet comes back as being very fast paced.

Coheed and Camria- The Suffering

QUOTE
Hey, Hey!
If it was up to me
I would've figured you out
Way before the year clocked out
Oh, I hope you're waiting

Hey, Hey!
If it was up to me
I would've never walked out
So until the sun burns out
Oh, I hope you're waiting

It's an emo song. The actual song itself is nearly impossible to understand, and it sounds much happier than the lyrics make it seem. The rest of the lyrics are depressing, but the song kinda has an upbeat rock tune to it. Scary. Anyway, I listen to this because it's what the radio plays.

Celldweller- Own Little World
QUOTE
Mutual sight, Mutual sound
Mutual struggle, for shared ground
It's safe, to say, they'll try to take from me
I'm just another one for them to break down

Steeped in denial, the daily grind
Dream of a world for me and my kind
It's safe in the alternative reality
So stick your standards where the sun doesn't shine

They're for themselves, it doesn't matter what they say
Promise the world then take it from you anyway
They'll break you down making your vision fadeaway
It's time to go: get outta my space

Welcome to a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Be anyone, do anything I'd ever want to try
Time doesn't exist here, I will never die

Explain the reasons, Explain the rhymes
It's not required, inside our minds
It's safe to try, no need to justify
Or take their guilt trip at the end of the line.

They're for themselves, it doesn't matter what they say
Promise the world then take it from you anyway
They'll break you down making your vision fadeaway
It's time to go: get off of my case

Welcome to a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Be anyone, do anything I'd ever want to try
Time doesn't exist here

Slip into a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Come with me into it and you know what you will find
Time doesn't exist here, I will never die

(My Own Little World)

They're for themselves, it doesn't matter what they say
It's time to go: get out of my face

Welcome to a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Be anyone, do anything I'd ever want to try
Time doesn't exist here

Slip into a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Come with me into it and you know what you will find
Time doesn't exist here, we will never die

(Our Own Little World)

This song is awsome. Celldweller is good, there's something for everyone on their cd. I've only seen one bad review for them. They have everything from heavy metal to indie to hip hop to rap to techno to rave, and on and on.

Posted by: Red Dec 11 2005, 06:38 PM

Hmm, not a fan of them myself but alot of my friends are. I think I'm some sort of Indie-punk. Kind of a weird feeling but alot of the "punks" I see now seem to have turned punk mainstream, so I guess I'm pretty much like the new punk underground. Soft rock rebellion I guess you could call it.

Death From Above 1979- Pull Out, then some Jason Collet. I recomend Collet to anyone who likes soft, soothing acoustic. I recomend DFA 1979 to anyone who likes, umm, fast and heavy punk and likes people who look like David Grohl's tall brother. smile.gif

Why do you think fallout boy is such a good band? is it because they "Rawk"?

Its just overproduced poppy music, it sounds the same as all the other played out choppy music in the pop-rock scene today. The Mainstream music scene has gotten exponentialy worse since the late 90's, How the hell did we go from The smashing pumpkins to Good Charlotte? the music used to be so good.

I'm listening to 3 things right now, same band but i mixed some of the cds i had togeather just incase they ever got screwed up.

The Band : Bad Religion

The Song : All Good Soldiers
The Song(2) : Broken
The Song : Wispers In Time
The Song : Athiest Peace
The Song : Kerosene
The Song : To Another Abyss
The Song : 21st Century Digital Boy

I listed so many because i've looked at this topic a few times before actually posting, and those were the songs i was listening to, not in order but the ones i was listening to.

Lately I have been listening to alot of Schoolyard Heroes.

They're pretty good, they have some pretty nice lyrics and I approve of their sparing use of a screamer (as apposed to bands who use their screamer exclusively). They're loud, but intelligent. Hard to find with all of this new crap...

They're lyrics can get pretty morbid... but that's the sort of thing I like, if you don't like horror rock, this certanly isn't for you. I can't find any lyrics printouts because they leave it up to the listeners to discern it for themselves (and with some of their songs thats a feat unto itself).

One of my favorite songs has to be The Girl Who Was Born Without a Face. So far here are some excerpts.

"Every time I reach my fist into your plastic ribcage, I crush your artificial heart, yet somehow you're still breathing."

"Your eyes will turn to black and the tears you weep will cut like broken glass"

"I know that when I tear your heart into 1,000 pieces, you'll be back for more"

They are not to intense about everything they say, it isn't literaly meant to seem hardcore or scary, it's just.. good. I especially enjoy their unique vocals. Their lead singer (female) is high-pitched and shrill yet not annoying. This is one of those bands I know you'll be hearing more from in the immediate future.

Bad Religion fan I see. Walter Graffin (vocals) double majored in anthropology and geology and earned a masters degree in geology from UCLA and received his Ph.D. in evolutionary paleontology from Cornell University, which I find interesting because he's in a punk band and can legally be called doctor. Also, they're indie punk because they started thier own record label instead of joining a major label, which I really respect.

Broken Social Scene- I'm Still Your F-g.

Posted by: davion Dec 20 2005, 01:26 AM

Yeah they started their own lable which is awesome, but ppl ask me "Scott, what type of music is bad religion anyways? do you even know" i usually just tell them "Take your pick, their governmental punk and anti-religion punk so to speak, mainly governmental though."

I found some lyrics for Schoolyard Heroes for you. happy.gif On their http://www.schoolyardheroes.com/, underneath the "Music" link at the of the page, they have lyrics to some of their songs. And you can listen to some of their songs, too. They sound good, I'll have to check out their album sometime. Or just listen to the songs on their main site, if I can't afford to spring the ten bucks or so. (I looked it up, I think it was 12 bucks, but still...)

The English name for the song would be Cruel Angel's Thesis.

Me, I'm having one of my older playlists running right now. Seems to hold a lot of music from Metallica (the older stuff), Skid Row, Black Sabbath, Billy Idol, Fear Factory and System of a Down.

The song for the moment would be D-A-D, Everything Glows. Don't know why but I find myself listening to this particular song a lot.

Blink 182-I won't be home for Christmas

QUOTE(lyrics)
Outside the carrolers start to sing
I can't describe the joy they bring
cos joy is something they don't bring me

My girlfriend is by my side
pick her up while hanging sickels of ice
Their whiney voices get irritating
It's christmas time again

So I stand with a dead smile on my face
wondering how much of my time they'll waste
Oh god, I hate these satan's helpers

And then I guess I must have snapped
because I grabbed a baseball bat
and made them all run for shelter

It's christmas time
again
it's time to be nice to the people who
you can't stand, all year
I'm growing tired of this chistmas cheer

you people scare me
please stay away from my home
if you don't wanna get me down
just leave the presents and let me be alone

Well I guess it's not cool to freak on christmas eve
because the cops came and arrested me
they had an unfair advantage
and even though the jail didn't have a tree
christmas came a night early
as a guy named bubba unwrapped my package

It's christmas time
again
it's time to be nice to the people who
you can't stand, all year
I'm growing tired of this chistmas cheer

you people scare me
please stay away from my home
if you don't wanna get me down
just leave the presents and let me be alone

I won't be home
I won't be home for christmas
I won't be home

This song perfectly sums up my level of Christmas cheer. Except for two things I can think of.

1. If I was going to snap and kill Christmas charolers, they'd be dead. End of story. They wouldn't be running. So no visit from the cops, and no witnesses.

2. If the cops did come, they wouldn't find any evidence, as it would by now have gone into brightening my Christmas cheer. (and my yule fire)

I don't do things on the spur of the moment, or haphazardly. If I snap, I usually choreograph it first, plan everything out, and have backup plans and contingencies. And I have enough self control to avoid acting untill then. (usually)

I like some of Maiden's songs... Wicker Man, The Trooper and 2 Minutes to Midnight is the three I like the most smile.gif

I really don't find anything so very special with the lyrics in Iron Maiden but the overall guitar is pretty good.

I've also listened to Dance of Death which I find more as a fantasy story then a song tongue.gif

QUOTE
Dance Of Death

[Gers/Harris]

Let me tell you a story to chill the bones
About a thing that I saw
One night wandering in the everglades
I'd one drink but no more

I was rambling, enjoying the bright moonlight
Gazing up at the stars
Not aware of a presence so near to me
Watching my every move

Feeling scared and I fell to my knees
As something rushed me from the trees
Took me to an unholy place
And that is where I fell from grace

Then they summoned me over to join in with them
To the dance of the dead
Into the circle of fire I followed them
Into the middle I was led

As if time had stopped still I was numb with fear
But still I wanted to go
And the blaze of the fire did no hurt upon me
As I walked onto the coals

And I felt I was in a trance
And my spirit was lifted from me
And if only someone had the chance
To witness what happened to me

And I danced and I pranced and I sang with them
All had death in their eyes
Lifeless figures they were undead all of them
They had ascended from hell

As I danced with the dead
My free spirit was laughing and howling down at me
Below my undead body
Just danced the circle of dead

Until the time came to reunite us both
My spirit came back down to me
I didn't know if I was alive or dead
As the others all joined in with me

By luck then a skirmish started
And took the attention away from me
When they took their gaze from me
Was the moment that I fled

I ran like hell faster than the wind
But behind I did not glance
One thing that I did not dare
Was to look just straight ahead

When you know that your time has come around
You know you'll be prepared for it
Say your last goodbyes to everyone
Drink and say a prayer for it

When you're lying in your sleep, when you're lying in your bed
And you wake from your dreams to go dancing with the dead
When you're lying in your sleep, when you're lying in your bed
And you wake from your dreams to go dancing with the dead

To this day I guess I'll never know
Just why they let me go
But I'll never go dancing no more
'Til I dance with the dead

Good song, but I don't like it so much as I use to. I lost alot of respect for them when they turned Emo (dressed like punks) and put on the bad-boy attitude. I guess I liked their old bands the best (Aqua Bats and Box Car Racers to name a few) and now that Travis Barker joined the Transplants he acts like an absolute jerk (and does shampoo and cell phone commercials) and the new projects down right sound like garbage.

Morrowind main theme- by whats his face McGee who wrote it.

The entire Celldweller album by Celldweller. Just got the CD for Christmas. My favorites are:

QUOTE(Celldweller-Frozen (excerpts))
Inside this fantasy
It seems so real to me
Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open
True Love behind a wall
Where men and angels fall
A fading memory, when my mind is frozen...

..."I want to forget mistakes they've helped me make
It's better to be broken than to break"...

...I can see a frozen point in time
That is easy to retrace
Light and darkness are both intertwined
The elements are in their place...

QUOTE(Celldweller-Stay With Me (unlikely) (excerpts))
sick of this mind and the games it plays
mental enemies want to push me back again
here they come running wanting me up on that
tree crucified (wait a minute)

whatever words they say (me who said it)
whomever they betray (me who did it)
whenever they're awake it makes me die...

...stay with me, please don't go
if you want to be alone
stay with me, please

i don't have much else to say (unlikely)
i'd rather you go away (unlikely)
i don't need something from you (unlikely)
though some say i will heal over time, it
doesn't seem too likely
it seems unlikely

QUOTE(Celldweller-Own Little World (excerpts))
Mutual sight, Mutual sound
Mutual struggle, for shared ground
It's safe, to say, they'll try to take from me
I'm just another one for them to break down

Steeped in denial, the daily grind
Dream of a world for me and my kind
It's safe in the alternative reality
So stick your standards where the sun doesn't shine...

...Welcome to a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Be anyone, do anything I'd ever want to try
Time doesn't exist here

Slip into a world where the air I breathe is mine
There's nothing to overwhelm me and nothing to cloud my mind
Come with me into it and you know what you will find
Time doesn't exist here, I will never die...

QUOTE(Celldweller-The Last Firstborn (excerpts))
...i hear the sound of a heart
from the shadow in the dark
waiting for the poison to hit its mark
(listen--my son) i see the darkness
surround the shape on the ground the
killer straight up and a body face
down (firstborn-last one) i hear the
din of the screams, sorrow in streams
the smell of farewell and gasoline
(listen--my son) i see a heart set free
and my legacy hear a voice from a
shadow that is beckoning me
(firstborn-last one)...

QUOTE(Celldweller-Afraid This Time (excerpts))
build them up-high and strong
so you'll never have to hurt too long
put them up-til they surround
and there's no real you left to be found
hold it up-high above no fear of hope or trust
or love...

..."even if you want--you can't hurt me now"
(this isn't easy to admit but i don't think i'm
believing it-i'm afraid this time)

Well, those are my favorites when I'm in a bad mood. When I'm in a good mood...? Well, I generally listen to music when I'm in a bad mood, but when I'm in a good mood, it doesn't really matter what I'm listening to.

'Midnight' from the album 'Beethoven's Last Night' by Trans-siberian Orchestra.

Interesting story behind the album; it's basically about the devil trying to bribe Beethoven for his tenth symphony. the devil even sinks so low as to threaten to harm a poor little girl. nono.gif

I'm listening to a "new" band I discovered - it kind of embarasses me that I haven't known them before, since they've been around since the 70s. They're called The Fall and they make guitar-heavy music that explores rock music beyond the beaten track, and often enough off of the established notes smile.gif

That aside, I've listened to a lot of Dead Can Dance lately. They're simply the most amazing (and I don't use that word lightly) musical project out there, if you ask me.

I got the older CD of Schoolyard Heroes recently, and have already established my favorite song.

It's called "Bury the Tooth of the Hyrda and the Skeleton Army Will Rise"

"There’s something eating me from inside out/ Guess it doesn’t matter what I say/ I cough up blood and words that I regret/ So long your attention has gone away.

These high school words have lost their power/ Their meaning bleeds right through this page/ I state my case and you impale yourself/ On points to you I wish I’d made/ Let’s just pretend this never happened and then we’ll be on our way./ Even with these scars I can’t remember Why we started anyway./ Your blood it stains me like a trophy/ When I wear it I’m ashamed/ Of what I was or what I am or every thing I could have been.

You want some proof? Crack open my skull./ Safe place where evil thoughts reside/ These underhanded gestures I make Do they help you sleep at night? Let’s just pretend this never happened and then we’ll be on our way./ Even with these scars I can’t remember Why we started anyway./ Your blood it stains me like a trophy/ When I wear it I’m ashamed/ Of what I was or what I am or every thing I could have been."

Real good song, that unfortunatly, I relate to far too much.

For the time I've been listning to more of A Perfect Circle. In the start I had to get used to their music which I find a little bit wierd, but now I really have listened to alot of their stuff...

Mostly The Outsider, Hollow, Judith and Blue is my favorites.

I really notice in the sounds how I just tend to notice the drums and vocal more then the guitar which I do in more bands. They really bring out the rythm drums, and as I start listning deeper I can hear the great guitar going smoothly in the background driving the whole song - and their lyrics ain't bad either, at least that's what I think.

Their songs are very chill, not that fast and loud but a nice line through out the song which I find great with A Perfect Circle...

Here's the lyric from The Outsider, if you haven't heard any songs from A Perfect Circle then I think you should try it out smile.gif

BTW... This is not 100% right, at least from what I can hear... Gonna see if I can find the right one*

Edit; the one now should be right tongue.gif

QUOTE("A Perfect Circle - The Outsider")
Help me if you can
Help me if you can
It's just that this, this is not the way I'm wired
So could you please,
Help me understand why
You've given in to all these
Reckless dark desires
You're lying to yourself again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, put it on the faultline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess. I don't want to watch you.
Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die
Medicated, drama queen, picture perfect, numb belligerence
Narcissistic, drama queen, craving fame and all its decadence
Lying through your teeth again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, put it on the fautline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Go with this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess, I don't wanna watch you...
Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die
They were right about you
They were right about you
Lying to my face again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it put it on the fautline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess, come to this, come to this
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet at a time
What's your hurry, everyone will have his day to die
If you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere,
Do it somewhere far away from here

In Flames is indeed a good band, been listning to some of their songs... Episode 666 and Man Made God, those two are great - I really like the guitar and the overall flow in their songs.

I'll add that I'm listning to some Hammerfall now... A band I listened to more before, but no doubt - Great music indeed, real power metal. The guitar on some songs is so freaking amazing...

Hearts on Fire and Brothers in Arms are my favorites... but right now I'm listning Run with the Devil, and I have to say that I could marry the guitar in that song, I think it's simply great... but it's just me tongue.gif

Go watch Down by Law. Good movie, and he's showing his acting talents in it.

I for one am listening to Fear Factory right now. Love them with all my heart, especially the 2001 album Digimortal. They also made this really cool cover of Gary Numan's "Cars", I think together with him. I like the fact their music is melodic yet hard metal, with an interesting if somewhat outworldly and sinister theme (the eventual rise and domination of machines over mankind).

Must, hear, good, punk, band. I demand a website! It seems today that punk is mainstream (If a punk band sells like, ten thousand million albums in a week and is constantly on the radio and Much Music and MTV, they're not punk) which ofcourse, is hypocracy. Punk is supposed to be the underground, the resistence, but now every twelve year old girl with a bracelet and a Hot Topic shirt think they're Joey Ramone, even though they don't actually know any Ramone songs. Thats why I have faith in Indie and local bands, because its rare they sell out or get too popular.

Well, enough of my rantings, lets get to the music. KC Accidental by Broken Social scene. I recomend this to everyone who likes music, drums and eleven member bands. Really awesome some that I want to learn on guitar.

Just because a lot of people like a band, doesn't mean they sold out. It means a lot of people like them. That's all. I don't understand why everyone has to listen only to bands that nobody else has heard of.

Punk bands should want to be popular, that way their message is more widespread.

Still mainly Celldweller, their music doesn't get old fast. (I finally found one other person who knows of their music!) Come on, somebody tell me they've heard of them, even if you don't like them! Here, check out the http://www.celldweller.com site. You can hear some of their music here, just parts of three of their songs, but it's enough to get a sample. I dunno what to classify their music as, it varies from track to track. I believe they classify themselves as indie rock. The main guy in the band is Klayton, from Circle of Dust. (90's industrial rock) I think he changed his name a bit, he does it pretty much every time he's got a new project. I think it was Clayton (with a C instead of a K) when he was with Circle of Dust.

Depending on the reviewer and individual song, Celldweller is classified as electronica/metal, electro-orchestral, techno, heavy rock, alternative rock, nu-metal, and a bunch more. They're compared to Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Uranium 235, Korn, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Nickleback, Creed, Fear Factory, and Skinny Puppy, depending on the tracks they play.

Besides my ongoing love of Celldweller music, also listening to a couple of older songs right now.

Judas Priest-United

QUOTE
United, united, united, we stand
united we never shall fall.

Upbeat enough to put me in a good mood for a while.

Styx-Everything is Cool
QUOTE
Check in, check out.
No one needs to know what you're thinking about,
In the here, in the now,
you can take it in while you're working it out.
'Cause you're into it, when your out of it.
Everything is cool in the land of the brave new world.

This could be my motto most of the time.

EDIT: Nope, when Klayton (from Celldweller) was with Circle of Dust, he was, depending on when it was, either Scott Albert or Clay/Klay Scott.

Listening to some early 80s music: John Foxx.

Foxx has been an influental member of Ultrafox in the late 70s before they had their biggest hit with the song Vienna. After leaving the band under -I think- unhappy circumstances, he persued a solo carrier that never really took off. However, his music and his style are appreciated a lot by a few people, including me. Noteworthy songs include "Europe after the rain" and the experimental "Film One".

Placebo vs Kosheen - Hide The Bitter Placebo (DJ Sandstorm)

HUlloooZ all, I've been away for a while... if you ask me what I'm listening to (globaly) the answer would be Nine Inch Nails - "With Teeth" LP. This is one angry, energetic and intelligent album, but it also has some darker, more depressive notes so if you don't like NIN just turn away from it... otherwise, get it, by all means. It's NIN in it's rawest biggrin.gif

EDIT: Right now it's NIN- "The hand that feeds", a definite anti-song (or a protest song, if you like it more that way) - just listen to its words while you're dancing to those funky rhytms...

EDIT2: Thanks, mr. Chief Owl Spotter biggrin.gif it's good to be back !

That's funny. Just a while ago I was listening to a song that NiN guy wrote, covered by....Johnny Cash!

Right now though, it's Black Uhuru. Excellent Reggae from a while ago, but not as dry and farty (sorry) as Bob Marley and the rest of those sleeping pills =)

Still listning to In Flames for the time. I've listened to Only for the Weak many times now, really like the song, how it goes, simply everything! smile.gif

QUOTE(In Flames - Only for the Weak)
I can't tolerate your sadness
Cause it's me you are drowning
I won't allow any happiness
Cause everytime you laugh, I feel so guity, I feel so guilty

Am I forced to have any regret
I've become the lie, Beautiful and free
In my righteous own mind
I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me

Sell me the infection, it is only for the weak
No need for sympathy, The misery that is me

I've lost the ability to pain the clouds
Cause it's me you're draining
I'm stuck in this slow-motion dark day
Cause everytime you run, I fall.. Behind, I fall behind

And so I hear my voice again
The tale of the bitter man here I am
Shake the silence and hear what it says
The tranquil pride that become the lie

Sell me to infection, it is only for the weak
No need for sympathy, the misery that is me

Sell me to infection, it is only for the weak
On bleeding knees, I accept my fate

Money - Pink Floyd.

Classic. While some of Pink Floyd's songs can be tedious to listen to (save me from that five minutes of the same little effect!), I still love them.

Just because a lot of people like a band, doesn't mean they sold out. It means a lot of people like them. That's all. I don't understand why everyone has to listen only to bands that nobody else has heard of.

Punk bands should want to be popular, that way their message is more widespread.

I know, I just don't like bands that lie to their fan base or murder all of their ideas to make a new million doller album. I still like Led Zepplin and their not exactly underground.

The song? Chivalry is dead and yet we live. The artist? Me. I'm trying to get a somg down right now, nothing special, just a soft rock song.

Deify You - Disturbed

I like their new album. I like listening to it while playing Silent Hill 2. My favorite song on their album would be Guarded.

I've been listening to it everyday since Christmas. Hehe.

Posted by: Kindred Spirit Jan 9 2006, 11:03 AM

Zarexaij-Yeah, Disturbed is good. Well, talented, anyways, I think they'd be classified as evil, rather than good.

Two points to anyone who can guess this. happy.gif (Actually, it's changed somewhat, it's more than just Celldweller now, or I wouldn't be posting)

First of all, I'm now listening to the songs, both backwards and forwards, on http://jeffmilner.com/backmasking.htm Backmasking is interesting, even if some (most) of it can easily be attributed to coincidence and the power of suggestion.

I'm also now listening to a multigenre band called http://www.angelfire.com/rock/fornever/. For an example of their work, check out http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=105917 site, they released some of it for free listening.

Also, due to my new interest in backmasking, I decided to listen to the (yes, here they come) Celldweller songs looking for backmasking. I haven't found any messages yet, but the music sounds almost as good backwards as it does forwards. It's been edited over so many times, that it still sounds great. I'm also using Audacity to remix the Celldweller songs on my own, see what kind of thing I can do to them. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make any really nice improvements as of yet, and any minor improvements aren't anything you'd really notice much. I'm also listening to the Switchback music video, which can be found http://www.celldweller.com/2005/switchbackvideo.html Gotta love rockers dancing in dresses. happy.gif I know, I'm a freaking fanatic. Only thing I can say in my defense is that I haven't started stalking them. (yet)

Also listening to the http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2685784?htv=12 Note: Probably NSFW (not safe for work). Also, don't watch it unless you either: a, hate Emos, or b, have a bad sense of humor like I do. This video mocks Emos pretty badly, and this would be pretty offensive (even to me, a non-Emo) if I didn't have such a horrible sense of humor. Only watch this if you can sit back, laugh, and enjoy the humor. It's not funny to normal people who are tolerant of the Emo fad. It will be funny if you hate the Emo fad, or if you have an evil, horrible sense of humor like I do. In particular, it mocks Emos for: their hair, being homo/bi, their hair, their taste in music, their hair, cutting themselves, hating life, their hair, etc..

That's all for now. My taste in music (beyond Celldweller) is pretty limited, and, as they should be releasing another album in 6 months or so, don't expect it to end anytime soon.

EDIT: Fixed BBCode error

Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt - The Mars Volta

I still can't get over how this band seems so chaotic, yet so harmonious. It's baffling. All the parts seem so independent, but somehow, it all comes together and flows nicely.

OMFG! I haven't listened to Celldweller since my last post here! I'm now listening to a gothic/techno band called Echochild. The vocalist is female, so the sound is... somewhat surprising. They have some of their stuff on Soundclick. Soundclick has free LEGAL music. It's legal because it's from small bands that use Soundclick to promote their work, so they can compete with big bands. Here, here's their http://www.soundclick.com/pro/view/01/default.cfm?bandid=135696&content=main&songid=0

Specifically, I'm listening to one song in particular. Not completely sure on the lyrics, but I'll do my best.

This is just one section, the chorus, and it's repeated a lot. There are some words that I'm missing, but you can get this song at the link above, so...

QUOTE(Echochild-Electric Aided Suicide)
Machine assisted suicide
Unnatural man that we abide
Electric aided genocide
Empty shells that we will lie

Depressing, I know. I said it's gothic, what are you expecting?

Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God

Been listening to a lot of Iron Maiden today, they rock. although i still like Metallica more smile.gif

Posted by: Kindred Spirit Jan 13 2006, 09:04 PM

[Edit]Yeah, Metallica and Iron Maikden rock![/Edit]

I found some of my dad's old music lying around on the comp, in a file which I had forgotten about, and found some songs I liked. Thus far, I've been primarily listening to:

Quiet Riot- Come on, Feel the Noise

QUOTE
Come on, feel the noise
Girls rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild wild.
So you think I got an evil mind,
Tell you honey,
I don't know why, I don't know why.
So you think my singing's not in time,
It makes me money,
I don't know why, I don't know why,
Anymore, Oh no...<snip>

Obviously, being a fairly typical male in at least some ways still, the first four lines interest me. smile.gif And I like it when a person can critisize themselves (lines 8 and 9), it's good for you.

Quiet Riot-Slick Black Cadillac
QUOTE
<snip>
It's like an institution of revolution
Feels alright, feels alright.
Drivin' in a slick black Cadillac,
It's got solid gold hubcaps.
<sni[>
It makes you feel like a king,
I only need one thing
And that's a slick black Cadillac.
<snip>

I love cars. Another typical male trait I still have, despite my oddness. smile.gif

Quiet Riot- Bang Your Head-Mental Health
QUOTE
<snip>
I want it louder, more power
I'm gonna rock untill it strikes the hour.
Bang your head!
Mental help'll drive you mad!
Bang your head!
Mental help'll drive you mad!
<snip>
I'm.....
frustrated, outdated,
I really wanna be...overrated.
I'm a finder, and I'm a keeper
I'm not a loser and I ain't no weeper.
I've got the boys, to make the noise.
Won't ever let up, hope it annoys you.
Join the pack, filled with crack.
Now you're here, there's no way back.
Bang your head!
Mental help'll drive you mad!
Bang your head!
Mental help'll drive you mad!
<snip>

I'm a hard-rock headbanger at times, I can't help but love this song. And there are numerous cases in our area of councelors telling "the people in charge" about things that are mentioned in confidence, in supposedly confidential meetings. hasn't happened to me, because I avoid speaking to councelors unless absolutely necesary, in which case I talk the same way I do to my parents. (limited to *shug* *shake head* *nod* "Yeh" "Meh" "Neh") So I'm not at risk for that, but others that I know have had that happen to them. Plus my inherent distrust in those who have power of any kind over me. So I have to like the mental help part as well as the headbanger part.

Rainbow-Since You've Been Gone
QUOTE
I get the same old dreams,
same time every night,
Fall to the ground and I wake up.
So I get out of bed, put on my shoes,
and in my head,
thoughts slide back to the breakup.
These four walls are closing in
Look at the fix you've put me in
Since you've been gone, since you've been gone
Outta my head can't take it.
Could I be wrong, but since you've been gone
You cast a spell so break it.
<snip>
Your poisoned letter, your telegram
Just goes to show you don't give a damn!
Since you've been gone, since you've been gone
Outta my head can't take it.
Could I be wrong, but since you've been gone
You cast a spell so break it.
<snip>

Dunno why I like this one, really. I don't like most relationship songs, but I like the rythm to this one.

With the exception of the last one, these songs are much lighter than my usual industrial/metal/goth/electronica style music that I usually listen to. I've noticed I've been a bit happier (not much, but just enough that I managed to notice) since I've been listening to this stuff. I still like the music from before, but it has it's time and place. When I'm POed, ticked off, and I have serious problems going on, then it's time to bring out the heavy music. But when everything's going fine, happier rock, more lighthearted stuff, works much better for me.

Anyone else feel like that makes no sense whatsoever?

I'm listening to Blind Guardian's Curse of Feanor. This song is about the part in the Silmarillion where Feanor swears his damning oath, and many other elves do likewise; they swore that they wouldn't stop fighting until Morgoth was dead. If they broke the oath, they called eternal darkness upon themselves.

Nonsense is it? Not so much.

It's a stretch, but all I can gather is that the songwriter is pissed off at phony people that are evil puppets from hell. I guess its their words that came from hell. huh.gif

EDIT: my listening has now changed to "Blood Tears" still by Blind Guardian. This is where Morgoth has hung Feanor's son, Maedhros on the wall of his fortress. By his hand.He was to hang there until the elves surrendered; of course they couldn't after swearing their oath. Maedhros and Finarfin(i think it was him) Fingolfin's son, was going to put his out of his misery by shooting him, but instead the gods sent eagles to carry Finarfin up to free Maedhros. He had to cut off the poor guy's hand. Anyway, it ended the feud between Faenor's descendants and Fingolfin and his. (Faenor died already)

Schoolyard Heroes-Curse of the Werewolf

Midnight and I’m out on the prowl Composed with hate, I’m filthy, wretched and foul It’s not a thirst but a hunger inside Tear open your flesh there ain’t no safe place to hide
You try to run and you try to escape It's of no consequence The fallen one he always gets what he wants This is your time to repent
I cross my heart I hope to die So close to dying in your arms I'm close to dying in your arms On Saturday night. My hunger burns, I’ll hunt you down.

http://www.purevolume.com/schoolyardheroes

As a sidenot, I am putting together a band. Not much has been done yet, we're still working out some of the details (like a name laugh.gif ).

So far in the running of names is "Bloodshot Romance"and "Psychosis Butterfly". If you have any suggestions just put them down with your music posts on this board.

Posted by: Dantrag Jan 21 2006, 10:23 PM

I like "Psychosis Butterfly". That one's pretty sweet. The other one reminds me too much of bands like Matchbook ROmance and My Chemical Romance. *shudders* laugh.gif

Anyways, I'm listening to Led Zeppelin - Black Dog. You gotta love Zeppelin.

It's a really hard song to play on guitar because of it's odd rythm.

You're right, there are a bit too many bands with "Romance" in the title, it's getting overused.

That's a good Wolfie. smile.gif

I bought a Blind guardian album that's been missing from my collection, so I've been listening to that. It's called "A night at the Opera" right now I'm listening to "Sadly Sings Destiny".

Iron Eddie rocks my socks. Then eats me and my socks. Then moves onto his next victim.

I've been listening to Bad Religion alot more than usual lately and am really enjoying the Grey Race CD. So I'm listening to Punk Rock song and Infected right now.

Posted by: Intestinal Chaos Jan 24 2006, 05:24 PM

I've had a two-day run of MSI (Mindless Self Indulgence) for some unknown reason. I normally don't like it that much, but I've been oddly in the mood. It's actually rather good party music, it's a shame I don't have parties laugh.gif

Right now I'm listening to "1989".

Posted by: Red Jan 25 2006, 11:18 PM

Did I ever mention that I love R.E.M? I've been a fan aslong as I can remember and very simply, when I found out they had done a song about one of my heroes (actual heroes, not just saying that) Andy Kaufman, I decided to start listening to their cd's more often.

Man on the Moon (the one about Andy) by R.E.M. Put one of my favourite verses in my signature.

Posted by: Intestinal Chaos Jan 26 2006, 02:02 AM

Schoolyard Heroes released lyrics to their new album today. I learned I was obscenly wrong on some of them (and unusually close on others).

Right now I'm listening to my favorite song by them..

QUOTE
They Live

We live like creatures, We love like homicide. We’ll write your future, Control both space and time. We control reality. We control your chemistry, baby. Rearrange anatomy, Deep within these shadows we’re alive. Look at all these imbeciles Shaking hands while decomposing We’ve crunched these numbers and we’ve found that your soul is null and void. Come with me you pretty thing, and we’ll celebrate with amputations We’ve wasted everything and now they’ve come to take our children. Your secret’s safe with me, I’ll take it to the grave, now baby. God help you please my dear I’m gonna take your dead soul away. Below these sutures, Hate flows like cyanide. Destroy your future consume your everything. We destroy reality We control your chemistry, baby. Rearrange mortality What we do is not your concern Come with me you pretty thing, and we’ll celebrate with amputations. We’ve wasted everything and now they’ve come to take our children. Your secret’s safe with me, I’ll take it to the grave, now baby. God help you please my dear I’m gonna take your dead soul away. When your heart broke off your words were cut off, your conscience shut off, remorse is useless now. God doesn’t want us back now, baby.

QUOTE
Panic in the Year Zero

Kiss me with your bayonet. Carve your name with blunt precision. Greet me with this violence. Taste my pores like an insect feeding. Scream, scream cried the debutante. Dance, dance, said the evil paraquat. Sing, sing you’re telling me. Bleed, Bleed, said the paper to the pen. Understand there’s no time. Understand I could not care less. Reattach these severed limbs, Fasten velcro to loose appendages. Burn these lips with your fingertips, Crush this heart with your megaton footsteps. Die Young. Leave a pretty corpse for me. I wouldn’t hold my breath If I were you. Shrapnel swirls like butterflies And leaves your broken body in my arms. Kiss me with brass-knuckled fists Hate me because I left you bleeding Love me with your violence Grab my throat like a mad man seething See you the opera house Wage this war with unparallelled carnage Meet me the parking lot Mangled parts can’t be salvaged Save your breath, Don’t say your prayers Words won’t help where you’re going Save your breath, don’t say your prayers this curse shall keep you wandering Burn these lips with your fingertips Crush this heart with your megaton footsteps Save your breath, Don’t say your prayers Words won’t help where you’re going. Save your breath, Say your prayers Words won’t help where you’re going

Right now I'm listening to Content Always was my Favourite Colour by the Most Serene Republic. It's like Indie/indie-tronic/Indie-rock. You can hear their entire new album http://www.arts-crafts.ca/themostserenerepublic/index2.html, completely legal, with lyrics.

<AttentionGettingTageline> I have been further expanding my musical influence into many suites, mwahaha. </AttentionGettingTageline>

I've never been one for trip-hop or anything like it, but I've gotten a momentary fixation with MSI. I greatly enjoy anything from the "You'll Rebel To Anything" album.

Insofar, I have been listening to "Bed of Roses", a current favorite by the band, but I've also perused through "1989", "You'll Rebel To Anything (As Long As It Isn't Challenging)", and "Straight to Video".

Posted by: Wurlon Jan 30 2006, 12:23 PM

I have never heard of them. But your attention grabber worked.

Happy birthday Wurlon, and congratulations, hope you have many fine presants.

I'm at the mo' listning to Nightwish, but it is only a question of time, before I turn on some ACDC or Metallica.

Ministry - Just One Fix user posted image

There's a time for Johnny Cash. And there's a time for Ministry.

I particularly like their 1992 album "Psalm 69", although I barely listen to a number of tracks on it (I'm not at all fond of "Jesus built my Hotrod").

What is it? Guess it's a mix of mostly industrial and elements of hard metal. They've had quite an evolution going on, starting with some stuff that could easily be called synthypop in the early 80s, evolving towards harder and harder sounds, until finally, they got a little softer again with albums like Dark Side of the Spoon, released in 1999.

Well..it´s a matter of taste actually!..The 60s were good...yes they were but still...hmmm It´s hard to decide but I think I´ll stick to the 70s..One thing though......the flower-power movement was strong in the 60s and with it there was some great music as well.

Ahh..the funny thing is that the music made then sort of never really dies!

Well, I ended up buying a Hendrix Greatest Hits album, and The Mars Volta's 'Scab Dates' which is a live album.

I'm listening to Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt from The Mars Volta's live album. it's quite different from the studio version, and Omar (guitarist) really shows off his skills. The singer also does many different things, and it makes a familiar song seem new again.

I'm listening to Rammstein, which is weird because most bands like it, I despise. Right now, I'm listening to Feuer frei! which really does sound like all of your worst nightmares and the Devil himself having a yelling arguement. On fire.

The "Now Listening To" thread is a place to post the music you are currently listening to or interested in, not a place to post one liners that only help post counts. Please refrain from doing this in the future.

That said, I am currently listening to Paranoid by Black Sabbath, a classic song. I think Black Sabbath is one of those bands that shaped the face of music for the future. Also, it reminds me of my passing fear of consequences. I've gotten over it, but I use to be Paranoid at random times for little to no reason.

Posted by: Kindred Spirit Jan 31 2006, 03:54 AM

Paranoid is a good song. I get kinda paranoid sometimes, but not about consequenses. I get paranoid when I have my back to other people, specifically people I don't know. Or if I hear a car driving somewhere and I can't see it.

I'm now listening to a Celldweller song that I skipped over the first few times on the cd. Good song, I just kinda...missed it.

Celldweller-Fadeaway
Oh, and if the stuff in the parenthesis doesn't quite seem to fit, it's probably because it's wrong. The stuff in the parenthesis is mostly background shouting, and it doesn't show up on lyric sites. So I'm guessing.

QUOTE
I'm not clear how it is that I ended up here
(Lemme in while you dream your haunted memories)
(Oh, Jesus)
(There's nobody in the world who can know you better than me)
Deja vu, think of you, once so far, now so near
(You're doing something that'll keep you occupied)
(Shelter)
(This pile of compassion's getting hard to climb)
Tangled in my own reflection, on the way down fadeaway

With my hands on my mind I hold wounds that won't mend
(You just keep trying to be something that you're not)
(Player)
(You'll never shake me, never break me, and never untake me)
With my eyes open wide I can see it's the end
Tangled in my imperfections, on the way down fadeaway

Don't hate me now, they've torn away the ground
From under me, right after they were reassured that I believed
Normality, is not a word I understand at all,
I set myself up for the fall, withdrawing deep into the hole,
(Fadeaway)
This isolated little cell leaves me cold and faded...
(Fadeaway, fadeaway, fadeaway)

(Fadeaway, fadeaway, fadeaway)
I'm my one and only friend, I am my worst enemy,
I find new methods to pretend, that this is not reality
(don't be lonely)
(now I'm your only)
(just stay far away from me)

When I fade away from me
(stay far away from me)
Just stay far away from me
(stay far away from me)
When I fade away from me
(stay far away from me)
When I fadeaway from me
(just stay far away from me)
When I fadeaway from me
(stay far away from me)
When I fadeaway from me
(just stay far away from me)
When I fadeaway from me
Ah, when I'm not what I used to be
Yeah, when I fadeaway from me
We're not between myself and me
when I fadeaway from me
(decline)
(more whine)
(deadline)
All mine

I have to suggest this to all teenagers who like industrial, tech, electronica, or even hard rock (hell, pretty much any style of rock, except rap, is covered in this cd). One drawback is that it's a bit on the angsty side (which is why I said teens, specifically). Adults and such might still like it, but I can almost guarantee that most teens who like rock music will like this at least a bit. And the music is awesome, so it might be worth checking out even if you usually don't like ngsty music. If you like Linkin Park (only mainstream example I could think of) then you will like some of the angstier songs on here, if you like NIN, you'll like some of the heavier songs. All sorts of great songs on here.

I'm going to shut up about how great celldweller is before you guys think I'm working for them, like the guy in the recent [irl=http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/01/25]penny arcade comic.[/url] Not that you'd think that, if you had any sense. Celldweller is a poor band, they can't afford to hire loyalty like this. smile.gif

Apocalyptica.

Haven't listened to them in quite a while. They're playing various songs (like a whole bunch of Metallica songs) on cellos! They're from Finland and their stuff is pretty cool. Right now I'm listening to their version of Metallica's Creeping Death, before that a version of Grieg's classic Hall of the Mountain King.

Cellos? Awesome! I have a friend that played Cello, he said it was difficult.

Right now I'm listening to the theme song from Jaws. Can't remember the creators name right now though. Then some classic FF.

Right now I'm listening to a song by The Most Serene Republic called The Protaganist Finally Realizes What he Must Do in the Middle of Downtown Traffic, which is quite a mouthful. Really cool Canadian Indie band that with the help of its amazing record label, Arts and Crafts, is exploding onto the Canadian Indie scene (and what a scene it is!).

Its ok smile.gif

About what year was that? Because most of the Rap I listen to is late eighties early nineties. Man, 1992 was a good year for rappers like Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Da Lench Mob and even Guerilla unit.

Right now I'm listening to Da Lench Mob- Freedom Got an AK. Damn I have a weird taste in music. From punk to garage to local to indie to rap to beyond.
