Chorrol.com _ General Discussion _ Favourite tv series

Posted by: Ethelle Apr 8 2008, 06:45 PM

I searched, but I didn't find a topic like this in the next three pages, so I figured I'd create one. If there is a topic like this already, I sincerely apologize.

So what's you favourite tv series, if you have one?

At the moment, I'm a great fan of House. I've always been a fan of the Blackadder series, so I was pleasantly surprised when Hugh Laurie got his own series. A hospital series at that. I hate hospital series, usually, but I make an exception for this one.

I used to be a fan of Stargate: SG-1 a few years back, and I recently started to watch the dvds I had bought a long time back. As I remember, I stopped watching because I found it boring, but now I can't remember why. I love the series now more than ever.

Lost!
Heroes!

Posted by: Ethelle Apr 8 2008, 07:23 PM

Meh... I'm not a big fan of Lost *dodges rotten tomatoes*

I have heard a lot about Heroes, however. What is it about?

Posted by: Christo_2992 Apr 8 2008, 07:30 PM

*throws rotten tomatoes*

Anyway, heroes is about people who suddenly get super-powers and have to save the world.

I know it doesn't sound original but it's awesome!

I don't really watch tv, so I'm really not up to speed on the latest series and such. Classics that I do love though;
- Mash
- Blackadder
- Dharma and Greg
- Married with Children
- Home Improvement
- Roseanne
- Will and Grace

And probably a half dozen I'm forgetting. smile.gif

Favorites at the moment are:

Chuck- Computer repairman "becomes" a CIA/NSA supercomputer

Bones- Forensics

Blast from the past: The much-too short Firefly- Spaceships, horses, (and Adam Baldwin)

I'm not much for watching TV... I don't own one. When I do watch, I'm usually watching NBA basketball. Maybe Mythbusters, sometimes. That's about it.

Posted by: Ethelle Apr 8 2008, 09:45 PM

@ Christo: Well, I think it does sound rather original. Don't know about any other series with a concept like that.

@ Alexander: Ah yes, Mash too. They broadcasted it last year here. The main character Hawkeye is such an arrogant person though that I couldn't always bear to watch. biggrin.gif And yay for Blackadder and Dharma&Greg!

@ Treydog: Hmm... I think I saw Bones once. I remember thinking "This is less bad than CSI", which surprised me because I recently turned away from the genre firstly because I don't like CSI, and secondly because all sorts of clones appeared. Bones wasn't so bad.

@ Canis: biggrin.gif I'll have the same problem when I'm moving out. I will have a tv, but no money for cable or satellite or something. I'll have to stick to watching dvds then. Mythbusters is fun. What's the guys name with the silly hat? I love his moustache!

Heh, yeah at times he's quite annoying, though overall the characters and the story lines make it a very compelling show. I was also impressed with the positiveness I've always heard and seen was said about it by those people actually in a real MASH during the koren war. I think that adds quite a dimension to it.

And I seem to recall it being repeated quite a few times over the years, I'm pretty sure I once saw the entire thing on RTL5, or maybe SBS6. Though that was back in the days I did watch TV a lot smile.gif

Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis are my two favourites. I've always felt SG1 went kinda downhill after Richard Dean Anderson wasn't in it anymore, but never to the point I didn't look forward to watching it. And Atlantis had a shakey start, but it's really picked up and gotten great.

I'm also a fan of Heroes, though I've never actually watched it on tv tongue.gif

Other than that.... Bones is pretty good, though I rarely get to see it anymore.

Posted by: minque Apr 9 2008, 12:21 AM

Ahhh let's see now....

1. Grey's Anatomy
2. Bones (forensics..yummy ohmy.gif )
3. ER
4. House
5. Chicago Hope
6. Jordan
7. Private Practise
8. Kyle XY
9. Lost
10. Heroes
11. NCIS
12. 2900happiness (danish one)
13. Miami Vice (Don Johnson..yummy)
14. Mash
15. Scrubs

and many more out there!

I am totally with Alexander's list .. my tastes exactly.

Especially concerning MASH. When I was active duty in an Air Force hospital .. a double MASH came on at 4-5pm every weekday - shift change time - and the whole hospital settled down to watch MASH ... except the nurses who were exchanging shift notes. This is not unexplainable though considering that this was immediately post-Vietnam and the actual MASH's had been evacced through Germany to our stateside hospitals.

And later when we lived in San Antonio, TX MASH came on 11 times a week. Again not unusual since San Antone at that time had 5 military bases.

His name is Jamie.
I like Heroes, House, Anders & Måns (swedish), Kvarteret Skatan (swedish), Family Guy and Simpsons.
BTW I'm gonna stop writing "//Daedroth". I'm getting tired of it.

Oh, He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton
the man they call Jayne!

I too love that series and recently rewatched it, what little of it there is.

Aside from that, I like:

- Babylon 5
- MASH
- ST:DS9
- Red Dwarf
- Lexx
- Whose Line
- Brittas Empire
- Stargate
- Simpsons
- Blackadder
- My name is Earl
- Rome
- Married with children
- Frasier
- Hogans Heroes
- War of the Worlds (the series!)

And a few others I probably forgot.

I've never seen more than Seasons 1 to 5 of Stargate SG-1, so I wouldn't know if the series goes downhill eventually. I think Anderson's final season is 8, right? Personally I think I would have a lot less fun watching without Col. Jack O'Neill. You can always count on him to endanger any diplomatic relation. biggrin.gif I'm thinking about buying Season 6 soon. Don't know about Stargate Atlantis. From what I've seen of it so far, I don't think I'll be able to get into it.

Cool biggrin.gif. The first part, of course, not the war itself.

Posted by: stargelman Apr 9 2008, 05:11 PM

Well, IMHO Claudia Black kind of saves it, but season 9 is still kind of bleh. Season 10 is ok/good because of the characters, not because of the story.

Posted by: treydog Apr 9 2008, 07:41 PM

My family used to watch the MASH re-runs faithfully after supper every night.... At some point, I kind of got over Hawk-Eye's flawed sanctimony. The show worked best as an ensemble show, with everyone getting some screen time. And there were some really great "concept" programs- like the one from the POV of the soldier who had a fractured larynx and could not talk.

Have to plug "Chuck" again- it is worth a long look- Adam Baldwin is a hoot, the pop-culture references are thick, and Yvonne Strahovski is brilliant as well as beautiful.

Somehow never got hooked into SG-1 or SG-Atlantis, even though they are my kind of programming. Of course, I never went for Babylon 5 or STNG, either....

Have to add my vote for Mythbusters- any program where people have that much fun blowing things up must be good. Especially when you can say, "But it's science!"

Posted by: stargelman Apr 10 2008, 07:26 AM

Start with Babylon 5. It's brilliant and in my opinion definitely the best SciFi show ever made, and next to shows like Firefly and Lexx that says a lot. What's special about it is that most of the writing has been done by a single guy (JM Straczinsky) and much of the plot has been planned before the show started. There's a story that spans four seasons and that is very coherent. You see little bits that you can't quite make sense of, and a season later you see something else and you remember those bits and suddendly they make sense...

The characters are much deeper than your average tv show characters. I'll give an example, Centauri ambassador Londo Molari. He's the kind of guy you can (and will) both love and hate, even at the same time. He has very endearing traits, but at the same time does things, terrible horrible things against his own better judgement.

The actors are superb, the dialog writing is top notch. Quite frankly, if you don't watch this show, you're missing out, big time.

Posted by: Wolfie Apr 18 2008, 12:01 AM

I'm going to have to add Firefly to my list.... it's incredible. What strikes me as odd is that considering its success in DVD sales, no network has tried to get more filmed, aside from the movie.

Posted by: Dantrag Apr 19 2008, 06:18 AM

Well, I liked the first season of "The Riches" that came on last year, but the new season kind of sucks. Since it's just close call after close call now, it got unpredictably yet predictably lame.

I really like The Office, been watching that a lot recently. (Got into it kind of late)

I love many of Adult Swim's programs as well:
Metalocalypse (easily my favorite show of all time)
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Venture Bros.
Etc.

there are probably many more, I just can't think of any more right now...

I don't watch network TV really, the exception being the first season of the Sarah Connor Chronicles (I love terminator, no hiding it). Aside from that, I mostly watch Mythbusters, you don't just learn fun stuff, but you also laugh while learning fun stuff.
My mom's started watching John Adams (a series depicting one of America's founding fathers before and after the American Revolution). I've taken to it as well, being somewhat attracted to the controversial nature of that era.

Posted by: jack cloudy Apr 29 2008, 02:29 PM

If you're into mecha. (Giant robots kicking behind, if you want me to be more specific.) I can suggest a couple of series.

Gundam 00 is for those who want plenty of political intrige, some angst and everything getting wrecked. The plot is about some guys who try to stop all wars...by starting a war against the whole world. Yeah, it sounds ridiculous, but everyone else in the anime points that out as well so it works actually.

The characters are pretty good for the most part. Smirnov is my favourite, the only guy who ever got to grab a Gundam's face while piloting something that's worse than the old Zaku II whereas the Gundam in the matter is way above the RX-78-2 in terms of performance. Take that, Char! (He doesn't wear a silly mask either.)

Currently, the first season run has ended and the second season will start in about six months, or so I've heard. This kind of makes the cliffhanger ending a bit frustrating for me, cause I'm not very patient. tongue.gif

For something else, take Full Metal Panic. It's a bit of a weird mixture. On the one hand it tries to be uber-realistic with its mecha (Big noticeable point, no jumpjets.), but on the other hand there are a couple of super-prototypes running around that are pretty much powered by the plot.

Speaking of the plot, it's a bit of a mystery here. So far I've managed to deduce that it's all about some Lambda-driver (used by the plot-powered mecha) and how it can upset the military balance or somesuch.

The characters are all pretty much insane. We've got the mad killer, the socially unskilled super-soldier, the psychic, the child-genius, the alcoholist, the skirtchaser, big sergeant nasty and everything else.

Storywise, Full Metal Panic is an odd mixture. It seems like it can't figure out if its supposed to be an action-fest, or a light comedy. So it basically shoots back and forth, mostly determined by whether or not the current scene has mecha duking it out. Still, it works somehow.

Full Metal Panic has had two seasons of the main thing, and a separate season called Fumoffu. Now Fumoffu is pure comedy, with none of the heavy plot-points being adressed, nor with a continuous storyline.

Finally, there is Macross Frontier. This show has only just begun, so I can't properly give you my opinion on it. But at the moment, it looks pretty good.

Plot: Some sort of colony fleet is going out in space and gets attacked by aliens. That's all I've managed to gather. Sure, sounds basic but that's only background really. The anime actually focusses more on the characters and their own dreams.

The characters are quite deep, though of a different breed than your standard Gundam protagonist. Sure there is onewith a traumatic past. (though I would have never guessed if it wasn't told by another character.) But other than her (and her dad, I suppose), no one seems to have witnessed mass slaughter, tragic disasters and the like in their earlier days. I kinda like that actually.

Guy angsting over falling into a cockpit of big bad mecha and having to pwn through half a thousand nameless grunts to stop the really big planet-devastating gun? Not cool. Guy angsting over his feminine looks, before falling into the cockpit of a big bad mecha and getting owned by random nameless grunt yet still deciding to screw it all and sign up? Damn hardcore. cool.gif

So yeah, the characters are pretty cool imho. And then there is her. That gracefull elegance, that smooth curvy skin, those colourfull eyes, that....VF-25. wub.gif (What, thought I was talking about a girl? No way, I'm a mecha-otaku.)

So, ahem...The mecha in Macross are quite unique and simply gorgeous to look at. They've got three forms generally. Fighter(jet), Battroid (standard humanoid) and Gerwalk (hybrid of the previous two.) Each one seems to be meant for different situations but in essence, this means that Macross excells in giving you fast-paced dogfights with loads of transforming in mid-dodge and all. It really looks amazing. Even if you're not going to watch the series, try to find a Macross dogfight on Youtube or something.

If there is one thing I don't really like, it's Macross' tendency to have someone singing on a stage, while some dogfight is going on in space. So you get constant scene-switches between miss singing and the fighters. While the music flows well with it, I kinda like my battlescenes to be uninterupted, especially if they're so awesome as the ones in Macross.

Don´t really have one these days but I loved the X-files back in the day and in recent times (post-2000) I watched Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis with great interest. So much so I got inspired to build my own spaceship out of Lego, while I was watching the show tongue.gif

I also used to watch TBBT, Friends and even the spinoff Joey.

Posted by: Acadian Apr 26 2016, 10:20 PM

mirocu, you are a master of necromancy. By that I mean that when you dig up an old thread, the topic is always still relevant and you manage to breathe life into it. goodjob.gif

I've never been a huge TV fan and, these days, what little I watch is generally news or perhaps snips of what Mrs Acadian might be watching that I catch as I make myself a coffee.

I must confess that reality TV mystifies me. I can't for the life of me discern the draw of boring people doing boring things when fantasy is ever so much more fun.

That all said, when I think about various TV series that I have enjoyed over the years, I think Murder She Wrote is either close to or at the top of my short list. Of course, anything touched by Angela Lansbury is pure magic.

I've not had cable in decades. The only broadcast TV available to me are local ABC and NBC affiliates, plus several PBS stations. I used to like PBS quite a lot but think it's gone downhill compared to what is was years ago. There's still occasion good stuff, but I can find as good or better at YouTube. As for commercial TV, yuk! So called reality-TV holds no appeal. Neither do celebrity vanity shows. Seems like the bulk of TV these days is those plus gods-awful infomercials. I no longer trust traditional news media to give us unbiased factual reporting. That leaves the weather, which is in my opinion the one area where TV provides an honest and worthwhile service.

There are exceptions to the above, though I don't get to see them unless they eventually make it to a disc format or YouTube. Game of Thrones ain't half bad. Neither was Rome. I understand Vikings is pretty good but have no exposure to it.

Now, if we're talking ye olden days I could list a goodly number of enjoyable TV series, all the way from season one of the George Reeve "Superman" to "Star Trek: The Next Generation". (These two, more or less, bookend the period I actively watched broadcast TV.) I think they hold up quite well today, though I suspect a number of shows I might mention don't.

I've watched a lot of "What's My Line" episodes on YouTube lately, and enjoy 'em immensely. As I recall, that show premiered the year before I was born and lasted into the sixties. I was too young to appreciate it back then, though do recall it being played on our TV set.

On the other hand, I got a big kick out of "Laugh In" during its initial run. If watched today I simply can't fathom what I once saw in the show. It has NOT aged well.

I am also not big on watching television; but this past weekend I watched the whole series of Game of Thrones - Comcast had a free weekend of HBO.

It is the best thing I've seen in decades! The acting is so stunningly perfect that you never realize you are watching actors/acting. It feels like you are there, immersed; and a part of what is happening. Everyone's performance is so spot on that every single character is completely believable in their role as if it were actually real/really happening.

It has an impact with the viewer deep within, in the same way "Braveheart" did on first viewing; as if you are actually seeing history unfold in front of you; but with Game of Thrones it takes place in a fantasy realm (like Tamriel) - in fact, the setting feels more like Tamriel than anything I've found that wasn't Tamriel itself.

And SubRosa said a while back that the "Little Imp" stole the story - she was right. His character was so compelling and interesting that I couldn't wait to see his scenes. His character is the most in depth character I have ever seen on any film or read about in any book. He is the best portrayal of an anti-hero who has heroism thrust on him that I've ever seen; and so believable in it that you feel everything he is feeling as he struggles through and emerges on the other side each time.

What I loved most about it is that it is written in so many shades of gray. The villains are not moustache twirlers; they are so human that sometimes you find yourself siding with them and feeling empathy - or sometimes even find yourself liking them despite knowing their past actions.

A HUGELY inspirational storyline and show!

Yes, Game of Thrones is amazing. I started years ago I believe when season 2 was ending. I began rewatching it with my lady. We started last week. We're at the last episode of season 2. I'm all caught up but she's new to it. She loves Tyrion as well. That's her favorite character. I like The Hound and Jaime Lannister, personally.

The show, despite the amount of violence among other things, has a very colorful cast of characters who are very well-developed. What drew me despite it being in a fantasy medieval-like setting was the characters. Not good or evil like many shows and movies portray but human enough to have their own goals and motivations. Granted some are just plain sick and psychotic like Joffrey and Ramsay Snow/Bolton.

Tyrion is easily the most amusing character because of his humor, bravery and wit. Now I confess beside the Hound or Jaime, I really like Jon Snow. Once a broody character who developed into a well-intentioned young honorable man who saw the big picture.

On the latter . . . Jaime Lannister fits this quite nicely. I mentioned before how

Posted by: mALX Apr 28 2016, 12:31 AM

I am also hoping the spoiler about Jon Snow comes true, but am unsure if he will be the same or if she will seed him with evil like she did her last victim client.

When everyone knows she is using dark magic and necromancy; not sure why an honorable group who is fighting all that she is (would use her to save one of their own).

But if it does happen, I plan to watch Ghost's reactions to him as a gauge, lol.

They did try to clear Jaime's name on killing that mad king, but I never faulted him for that because everyone knew the king was mad.

But

But that said, I also loved the scenes with that female knight where he

But even before that happened, he was the only one in the family who genuinely cared about The Imp, so he did have redeemable qualities; and maybe it was his sister's influence that was fueling his evil side. She is one nasty britch, that is for sure.

One of my favorite characters is "The Mother of Dragons." I love her!

Well, there are many characters in the books and in the tv show who don't turn out the same. Beric Dondarrion was resurrected six times, and each time he loses part of himself. Likewise, in the books, Lady Stoneheart is devoid of all human warmth and compassion. She's a vengeful shell out to kill anyone involved in the Red Wedding. I think Snow will probably be somewhat different.

Losing his hand certainly did bring out the better in him. Sadly it took a good deed to lose that hand. I fear in season 6 he'll fall back to his old tendencies ever since the Walk of Shame. Being around his sister will bring out the worst in him. No doubt about that. He's in love with her and does not see how she's using him. Tyrion the Imp isn't around, and I don't think it'll be a happy reunion if he comes back given the events with their father.

The actor Nicolau just basically said we first see Jaime in the point where he starts making bad decisions. Doesn't excuse them, yeah, but he still has done a few great deeds. Going back to save Brienne, also keeping her from being taken by those men, also saving those people. Giving her the sword to save the Stark girls, too. He's a darker shade of grey.

Theon Greyjoy/Reek is probably the most tragic one. Made terrible choices that are understandable, and paid dearly for them.

Oh yes, Dany is great. Still making me impatient. I want her to go home.

Drogon got big since the first season.

Well, I think Jaime is a lighter shade of gray the longer he spends away from his sister; but being around her seems to change him (brings out the worst in him that he is capable of).

Oh! Is this a quote from the book? Did you know the Author of the books has a blog where he posts "missing" chapters? Ones that he (for whatever reason) pulled from the books?

I'm going to find that blog!

The last quote was from a video on the Game of Thrones DVDs the producers made. It talks about the lore in the series and its narrated by the actors who play the characters. We hear narration from Jon, Thoros, Stannis and even the Hound.

I think Robert Baratheon smacked Hodor in the head during a sparring session tongue.gif

Watch this video: https://youtu.be/3xaspBsfgRg

It more or less fuels the fire to the R+L=J theory!!

Has all the scenes.

The only problem with using book references is that the TV show no longer follows the books, and is more of an alternate timeline, which means that the writers can pretty much do whatever they like with regards to characters. The TV show will go with whichever theory has the most action/violence and viewer interest.

I wondered if GRRM would change what he was originally planning for the story based on what the TV series did or viewer input. I hope not; but then again - there has been a bit of a hue and cry over how the show is diverging from the script; especially in season 6.

It'll be interesting to see what he does. Some TV show characters are still alive in the books, and some characters haven't been to certain places or done certain things, if they appeared at all.

There are two book characters in particular which I considered to be quite important, or at the very least to be rather interesting, which aren't in the TV show. Perhaps they'll make an appearance at a later time, or perhaps they're not as important as I thought.

I really wish he had finished the story before doing the movie, so he couldn't alter his plans for characters based on the TV show or audience reaction. I really would like to see his initial thoughts and plans.

But he has a blog that has two cut chapters in it - I am pretty sure they were chapters planned for the upcoming book that he scrapped based on the TV show, but couldn't stand to just throw out. I am dying to read them, haven't found them on his blog yet. (they are back a ways like more than a year; and there is much posting between times).

If I find them, I'll post links - if anyone else finds them, please post links. Most def want to read what he is throwing out.

There are many people saying Tyrion will ride a dragon eventually. Being a trio of Jon, Dany and Tyrion hehe.

Of course those are outlandish theories, but some people do believe Tyrion shares Targaryen blood.

Only time will tell.

The show is past the books but the developers Dave and Dan know how the story ends. Much of what happens in the show is filler and not part of the book, but George R.R Martin sat down and told them how the story ends.

I read those chapters he released early. I think it was Theon and Arya's chapter.

I don't really have one favorite. There are too many good ones, both old and new.

Of the oldies, Babylon 5 and Farscape are some of my most loved. Out of the more recent ones, I really liked The Clone Wars, and am loving Rebels. Turn has been good too, and so have the new Marvel tv shows. Daredevil has been good, and Jessica Jones is just fantastic.

Posted by: Decrepit May 16 2016, 06:02 PM

Remembered a few other favorite TV series.

From way back, the mini-series I Claudius. I've not seen it in decades and wonder how well it holds up today. I suspect quite well.

I'm no Trekkie, but make an exception for Star Trek: The Next Generation (as well as the movie Wrath of Khan).

On to GoT: Here's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vcy-EhkHXnE, which I own. It ties in with the TV series in that he sometimes talks about the difference between the what things look like in the show as opposed to what they 'should' look like according to the books (or his imagination), with artwork from World... to illustrate the point.

Posted by: Acadian May 16 2016, 07:22 PM

Decrepit, I'm not a trekkie either. As much as I loved Leonard Nimoy/Spock, I disliked William Shatner/Kirk even more. Lol. Next Gen was indeed better. Can't go wrong with Patrick Stewart, whether playing Uriel Septim or Jean Luc Picard. And Picard's staff on the show complemented him nicely. Similar to Patrick Stewart, I have always loved Ricardo Montalban and was enthralled by his character Khan - enough so that I even managed to tolerate Kirk (played by a chubby has-been Shatner) for a couple hours. tongue.gif

Posted by: SubRosa May 16 2016, 07:42 PM

I like me some Trek. My brother and I grew up watching the reruns of the original series back in the 70s. So we were both onboard with Next Gen when it came on. I lost interest in the Deep Space Slime and Voyager era. I did watch Star Trek: Enterprise, and liked it a lot. It slumps in the middle of the show with the Xindi season. But the final season is just pure awesome, showing the formation of the Federation, the genetic augmentations and how Dr. Noonian Sung turned to cybernetics, and the creation of the Klingon Fusion races. Plus the best Mirror Universe episodes of any Trek series.

Funny thing is, seeing the new JJ Abrams Star Trek movies has made me really appreciate William Shatner. The new Kirk played by that putz Chris Pine is just an idiotic a-hole. While I recall the Shat-Man's portraying Kirk as a man who took his responsibilities as captain very seriously. There was an episode where he literally lost his courage because of some alien intervention, and he didn't want the crew to see him that way, as it would detract from his authority as the Captain. He was also wily and clever enough not to fight a battle he could not win. He ran from the Gorn until he could build himself a makeshift cannon. And he pretended to surrender to Khan, all the while buying time so he could hack Khan's bridge controls. Where the Chris Pine Kirk picks a fight with half a dozen Federation security guys in a bar, and gets his ass kicked.

I love those series, they were bloody brilliant. Well, Babylon 5 was brilliant for the first four series. And Farscape just had so much going for it, for instance; Claudia Black biggrin.gif

As for Star Trek, gotta love The Next Generation, though I'm also rather fond of Deep Space Nine. I think they went a little over the top with Sisko(and a few other things from time to time) but have a more fixed setting made for a nice change of pace. Also. while Jake Sisko was about as annoying as Wesley Crusher, he didn't pop up quite so much, which is a point in DS9's favour.

I couldn't have said it better on Daenerys; that scene with the Khal when she walked out naked from the fire - I was WOO HOO'ing so much I'm sure the neighbors thought I was watching the Tennessee Vols win, rollinglaugh.gif

You are not the only one teared up over Hodor; the directors said they did too, when GRRM told them about that scene. That was so sad, and kind of shocking! I hope Bran takes it as a warning about going back in time.

But the 3ER; Howland Reed's children; and now Uncle Benjen - all seem to know Bran has some huge important role in the upcoming battle with the Whitewalker army; I am dying to see in what way/how. Will he ride a dragon too?

But of course, when we see that day come, it will mark the end of the show, so ... I can wait a LONG time, do not want to see this show end!

If this is going to be the person/place that I think it is, I'm quite excited. It's another unsolved mystery from the books, so I wonder if they'll reveal it straight away or leave it open.

I'm glad Jaime is going to the Riverlands at last. It's one of my favourite parts of the books, since it gives a good insight into his character and how he's developed. It also leads up to the reveal of ANOTHER character, which is looking more and more likely.

I hope Jaime and Brienne meet up while they're both out there. Their relationship is one of my favourites.

Dany obviously loves women; and I have been wondering all along if when she and Yara Greyjoy met whether there would be any chemistry between them - together they would easily conquer the 7 kingdoms. I couldn't tell if there were sparks or not, but I didn't see any between her and Daario either before they got together. I do think Dany liked her up front attitude overall though; and if anyone can be taken at face value it is Yara Greyjoy! I really like him as an actor. He's done a great job portraying Ramsay, and yes he's good in Vicious too. He was also pretty good in Misfits a few years back.

As for this week's episode, I thought it was very satisfying. Having the 'good guys' get something done for once always feels good, and the atmosphere of the battle was wonderfully brutal.

I agree with what you put in spoiler tags, I loved that scene - some real ETN type fighting there! But didn't care much for the "poetic justice" end there; to me that reeked of Hollywood writing as opposed to how GRRM would have done it; and D & D all but confirmed they were behind the way that went down.

I really think if GRRM had finished his next book, we would have seen a different ending there; something that didn't put Sansa on Ramsey's level.

And I don't think GRRM would have written Ramsey as such a moustache twirler either. Hollywood always feels like their audience isn't smart enough to know a guy is evil unless they beat it into the ground; GRRM didn't do that with even his worst characters.

Example: Waldor Frey - the guy is darnright likeable; but orchestrated the biggest mass murder of an entire family and all his enemies in one swoop - the most devious plan in history! That is how GRRM writes bad guys; they don't ooze evil but when they do something evil = they do it goooooood !!!!! BWAAAHAAAHAAA!

Also noticed the brilliant dialogue for Tyrion has dlsappeared since the point where the books ended and Hollywood writing started.

I really hope GRRM gets off his butt and finishes those books so we see more of his mind at work and less of D & D's.

Oh, but wasn't Dany's scene a good one!

And I could most def tell Yara was interested in Dany; just couldn't tell if the flirtation was mutual or not. Yara would def do Dany though, that was obvious; laugh.gif

Well, poetic justice is something GRR Martin has worked with before, in a subtle manner.

Red Wedding-Joffrey's Wedding.

Honorable Twin Lannister-Last moment in the privy

Jaime Lannister pushing Bran out the window and crippling him, and then losing the same hand later on.

Oh and yes!!

KING IN DA NORF!!

About time Dany fulfills her desire. I'm stoked for season 7.

Thought this ep was a bit hit and miss.

How did Varys manage to get to Dorne and back so quickly?

Why did D&D have Qyburn deal with Pycelle?

What was the point of that entire High Sparrow storyline if they're just going to literally blow it all away?

With that said - I liked the stuff in the North, I liked Arya's appearance, I'm happy to see Bran back at the wall, I liked the conversation between Dany and Tyrion, and I'm glad they're (literally) moving forward after so long in Meereen.

If I'm not mistaken, Varys left two episodes ago. Is he back? I'll have to watch that episode for the 30th time, I missed his return! laugh.gif But Dorne isn't that far away, both are in the hot southern climate area.

I wondered about Qyburn too; and what gave him the power to announce Cersei as the crowned queen? Oh, I think it would be really funny if somehow the High Sparrow survived that explosion somehow! Since Jon Snow threw the Red Woman out, maybe she will go resurrect the High Sparrow next? laugh.gif

What I am wondering = Did Arya actually feed Waldor Frey's sons to him? Did he eat them? GROSS! But ... still, thumbs up! Arya the "Rat Cook!" laugh.gif

But I will def miss Frey's quarrellous dialogue! He was hysterical!

Yep, Varys is standing behind Tyrion and Dany on the ship at the end.

This means that he traveled from Sunspear to Meereen in half an episode! According to my maps, the distance between those two cities is pretty much the same as the distance between Sunspear and Last Hearth, which is almost at The Wall. Maybe Varys is secretly a sorcerer. I don't know why the writers didn't just leave him in Westeros for now, rather than moving him around and annoying me so much that I actually look at maps.

As for Arya, I'm pretty sure I saw a tooth in that pie she gave Walder. She might be a talented assassin, but she's a very sloppy cook. tongue.gif

Hah! Maybe the High Sparrow will turn out to be a distant relation to Dany and is immune to fire. Either way, Cersei is pretty much done for now, she has the Tyrells and Martells both coming for her, a new King in the North, and team Dany to contend with.

I must say, I was sad to see Margaery die. She's one of my favourite characters and I really thought she'd survive until the end. Such is life in Westeros, I suppose. verysad.gif

Cut a man's vital parts off, and you'll be surprised how fast he can travel!

Ew, a tooth? Your TV must have more pixels than mine; but I thought I saw a finger when he peeled back the second slice - but did he eat the first slice? I didn't see him eating it; only her bringing the platter and cutting that piece out; putting it in front of him.

But Margaery and Tommen - yeah. verysad.gif

I think Cersei having Qyburn declare her as queen was "the last act of a desperate man" type thing. On one hand, don't see it lasting. On the other - she does have the Mountain on her side!!!! We may yet get that Clegane bowl; or maybe Arya will cook him up for Cercei's dinner? BWAAHAA!

As for the Littlefinger, Varys and Arya time travel/teleporation/jetpack devices . . . well, D&D said that the characters and the scenes do not operate on the same time frame. Each character has weeks or days off another depending on the story. So they say . . . mellow.gif

The Rat Cook story came hand in hand with Arya and Walder. Bran would be proud . . . or not.

You know what I think? After the final scene in the episode- with Dany and her fleet, soldiers and dragons . . . . Fred Flinstone, erh, I mean Robert Baratheon would be rolling in his grave right now.

The day he feared basically came true. A Targaryan at the head of a massive army with three grown dragons.

Wow.

And Dany is free to wed someone . . . Word on the block is that we got a new King in the North.

Edit:

As we've all noticed as the series goes on and beyond what has been written for the books so far, we get more 'hollywoody' as time goes. So keeping true to that development, with Dany right out stating that she needs to marry I think the THE KIT IN THE NORTH! will prob be her hubby, Reach and Dorne have already declared for her. Westerlands/Crownlands/Stormlands and parts of the Riverlands are 'pro' Cers, but depleted after wars.

Other parts of the Riverlands will most likely support THE KIT IN THE NORTH! as they did with Robb, but both the riverlands and the North are pretty depleted themselves, the Vale however is pretty much at full strength, so with 2.5-3 kingdoms declared for THE KIT IN THE NORTH! I think that will be Dany's best choice, also helps that Tyrion actually likes Jon.

Anywho that's my belief so far.

Oh, cool fun facts! Except we can't forget Rob's baby was also stabbed; before he was actually. I didn't know his wolf was killed before he was! Time to watch the Red Wedding episode again!

So Dany can marry Jon Snow (who is possibly her nephew); or Lilttlefinger (who may turn his focus from Sansa when Dany arrives); ... or ... er, Cersei?

Yes, I do think Tyrion liked Jon. Might be a good thing if it turns out later that they are all possibly related! (That's right; I'm not giving up on Tyrion being a possible monkey in the Targaryen/Lannister woodpile; since they are immune to Greyscale disease and Tyrion was exposed with Mormont and didn't catch it - not to mention his rapport with the dragons)

So, add to that: Dany's; Jon's; and Tyrion's Mothers all died giving birth to them. Makes me think there is a Targaryen connection that causes the women to suffer traumatic births! BWAAHAA!

And Euron is rumored to have one dragon egg that he supposedly lost at sea (yeah, right!) - and he also owns a horn that is supposed to tame dragons and bend their will to him instead of Dany. I see a big war battle between him and Dany going on before she reaches Kings Landing!

I'm currently enjoying:
The Big Bang Theory.
Supergirl.
Blue Bloods (me and my dad's personal favorite).
NCSI: LA and New Orleans.
Mom.
The Odd Couple.
Kevin Can Wait.
Brain Dead.
Although I still watch Two Broke Girls, I've kinda got tired of it. The show has become WAY to predictable.

Favorite shows still running
Comedy: The Big Bang Theory
Drama (non horror): Gotham (Khajiit likes the styling of it; one of the few shows this one looks forward to watching every week)
Drama (horror): The Walking Dead
Reality: History's Forged in Fire

Honorable Mentions:
Game of Thrones
Black Sails
Face Off
The Blacklist
American Horror Story
Ash vs. Evil Dead
Marco Polo

Favorite shows in repeat land
The Twilight Zone
X-Files (the "monster of the week" episodes were this one's favorites!)
Castle ( sad.gif )
Firefly (sad.gif sad.gif )
Deadwood
Penny Dreadful

New shows Khajiit is interested in seeing more of
Stranger Things- awesome little show from Netflix. Feels like early X-Files meets The Goonies. Definitely curious to see what they do with Season 2.
Westworld- based on the 70's film of the same name, it's a cool idea but the themes are all over the place. Soundtrack is cool.
Lethal Weapon- the comedic dynamic between the two leads (Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford) is pretty good. Also, there is some heart to the show as well as big booms and mayhem!

I actually don't care much for television; but sometimes there is nothing else to do (and sitting in front of a PC 24/7 gets uncomfortable, lol).

But there are some things I will actually stop doing everything and turn on the TV to watch; one of them is Game of Thrones.

Am I the only one to notice that Gotham can also be looked upon at Got Ham? Mmmm-mmmmm good, yes I do! *insert Homer Simpson smiley*

I am on the second season of Gotham. I bought it on blu-ray a few weeks ago, along with the final season of Penny Dreadful. I am have not even started on that one yet. I probably won't until after I get done with Got Ham. I think the third season of Black Sails will be out on disc soon too, so I will probably be starting that in a while.

I watched the first season of Supergirl a little while ago, and absolutely loved it.

I bought the entire X-Files on blu-ray several months ago (I even put the pic of it in the Now Watching topic, to prove it happened... laugh.gif). That includes the movies, and the event series. I started watching it all over from the start. Now I am up to Season Six. Last night I saw the two parter where the conspiracy was wiped out by the Alien Rebels (except of course that it wasn't really). I prefer the monster of the week episodes over the conspiracy ones as well. At least Mulder and Scully have some chance of actually doing something in them. The problem with the conspiracy episodes is that they never get anywhere, never prove anything, and just seem to ineffectual and powerless, which is not good for your protagonists. They should be the ones driving the story. But most of the time Mulder and Scully are simply witnesses to events, not the final arbiter of them.

I think I am a rare person who doesn't watch tv at all, when it is on tv that is. I only watch shows after they come out on disc. I rent them from Netflix, or buy them if I really like them. That way I don't have to wait for a specific day or time to see something. I just pull it off my shelf and start watching. When I start watching a show I typically watch one episode a day. I might watch two or three shows at a time this way. Like a Got Ham episode over a lunch, a Supergirl over dinner, and an X-Files before bed. But if I really want to, I might marathon a show and watch four or five episodes a day.

We got rid of our cable TV a couple of years ago and we don't miss it at all ...

In fact, I watch so little TV now that I could live without the flatscreen in my house. It's only around because my Mom still likes to watch her soaps on it.

I'm content with Netflix and Hulu Plus on my computer and iPad.

That said, I'm not watching any TV at all lately. Tried watching some K drama a couple of months ago but just couldn't get into it. Tried a few others that were supposed to be good, but I found them too predictable. Even the ones with the eye candy just can't keep my interest for long.

I'd much rather game these days . . .

Anyway, one really good series that I've been watching off & on on Netflix is Hinterland. It's a Welsh detective show that is filmed in two versions - English language (the one I've been watching) and Welsh language. It's cool, because between the scenery (which is both gorgeous and desolate at the same time, much like I imagine Lady Cora's Cardonaccum to be), the weather, and the foreign languages on the signs, it's mysterious, fascinating and overall understated in its dramatic overtones. The lead detective is struggling with issues we are just now learning about (at the end of the second season, if I recall correctly), and his second-in-command is struggling with sexism at work and being a single mom of a teenager who is going through the typical alienation process with her (the "I'm too cool to talk to my mom about stuff" kind of thing).

Add to this the fact that British TV seasons tend to run to six or eight episodes and I"m happy. Each episode is about 90 minutes, which allows for some really chunky story-telling, which is as filling for my mind as my Cloud Ruler Beef Stew is for my stomach.

I hope he doesn't think it is what people want; isn't influenced in his decisions by what the viewers talk about online, etc - really wish he had finished it before production started on the show so there would be no outside influences on his story.

But since the show surpassed the story, there is a definite tangible change in the show and characters from F'n Awesome to Hollywoody showboat. Things that were staples in the show (like Tyrion's personality and intelligence; like his bad guys having shades of gray instead of being moustache twirlers; etc) - it all turned once they no longer had his guidelines for the characters, and they began to take on all new personalities that felt like Hollywood trying to please their audience rather than the inner workings of the mind of a genius.

Uh. The mustache-twirling change really bugged me. Characters like Ramsay Bolton did evil stuff for the sake being evil. Like "Oh I can eat an apple with the same knife I used to stab a woman to death." Or "I get off on skinning people alive."

Characters like Jaime and Thorn and Tyrion are like able because there are aspects that we can relate to.... Heroics at times, not so much the incestuous stuff... Ehem.

The other shows I liked watching were Being Human and some cartoons like the Clone Wars and Rebels.... Which had some dissapointing stuff. Rebels turned out to be, well, Rebellion propaganda. But it's a children's show so I don't expect them to show the Imperial's point of view.

I might get into watching Black Sails.

Oh and I guess I was tempted. I read the entire spoilers for GOT season 7. Don't know if it's real or not but the actress who plays Missandrei certainly voiced her dissapointment at the leak on Twitter.

This one loved The Clone Wars. Should've added it.
