I thought Iīd make a thread about this as Iīm just about to replay SimCity 3000

As I mentioned, when I played it before it literally missed me off when people fled my city even though everything was peechy. But when I started to play cookie clicker and saw those funny little updates I was so reminded of SimCity since that game has them too and I liked them. I also liked how far down you could zoom and watch your Sims wander around or watch yet another traffic jam involving both cars and trains! The game should arrive this or next week and I canīt wait to be mayor once again!

Anyone else who likes either of the game series?

I played a Sims game once, back when I first got a Gamecube. That lasted maybe a week. I bought my Sim a telescope and he was abducted by aliens. At that point I lost interest.

I had Simcity 3000 years ago, and it was pretty good fun. I never figured out what happened to it, but it just disappeared. I'd been considering picking up Sim City 4, but I doubt it would run on my current laptop.

In the Sims, I always used the Rosebud cheat to build a really awesome house and then never actually bothered putting people in it. I ended up with neighbourhoods that were just uninhabited ghost towns.

I'm with both of you guys. I spent more time carefully building the houses than I ever did actually managing the sims. I did enjoy that aspect but it was much more fun creating the environment than it was to watch little human hamsters live in it.

I might not put pixies up as I apparently made a mistake. I ordered and got SimCity 3000 UK Edition when really I wanted World Edition where you can get it all in Swedish. I canīt play this game in English, it simply doesnīt work for me.

Wow, there IS a Sims thread here.

I just got Sims 3 for PC a couple weeks ago. It's my second computer game (Baldur's Gate was my first) and WOW what a difference from console versions. I bought Sims 3 for console on its release date 3 years ago. Got it for PS3 initially, and later got S3 on Xbox.

I'd always find myself getting TOTALLY obsessed with this game for a week or two, mostly because I can get a different sort of gaming fix with S3 than I can from Elder Scrolls, but then after that time I'd start getting bored with Sims. I really was hoping Sims 3: Seasons would be released for consoles, but Sims Studio mostly only gave us a few fashion DLCs, a couple cars, and then walked away from it.

Well I got Sims 3: Seasons last week and this DLC alone enhances the game in many ways which I was hoping for. One of my characters (Connie Lingus) caught a cold after spending too much time in the rain. She also walked around in wet clothes for a few hours after the rain squall ended. It's details like this which really get me into the game. After Connie's cold was cured, her roommate Ashe Hull then caught a cold the next day! It's as if the computer actually made sure to make this cold possibly contagious from one Sim to the next.

S3 on PC also is a truly open-world game. On consoles there are loading screens (LONG loading screens) every time I want to follow my Sim from one part of town to another. Anyways, I'll start adding my Sims 3 adventures here from now on. Thanks mirocu.

Absolutely. Matter of fact, all I gotta do is press C on the keyboard to take a picture. I've got a bunch of 'em, but I keep forgetting to figure out how to view these. Once I figure this out, I'll start adding some pix to this thread.

So you are having an issue with getting the WorldWide version of SC3000 'cause of money? .. I guess I'm a little too trusting. I rarely use a credit card to buy anything online, but in this case I splurged. I got Sims 3 on disc from a store, but got Seasons straight from Origin Online. I couldn't wait to get it. I have PayPal account, and I could have just used this to get Seasons, but I don't remember my password. I got impatient and said screw it, I want Seasons NOW. Went ahead and used a c card.

Actually, that is one option, mirocu. If you've got PayPal (or some sort of similar accout) you can perhaps get your game this way? It's also possible that whoever you're ordering from might also take a check?

Braziers and campfires, warm clothing, tents and many other things cease to be mere decorations with this mod. I just love seeing my characters warm their hands in front of a cooking fire - that never gets old. As you say, it's little details like this that bring a character and the world to life in our imaginations.

@Renee - Well, the problem is more about even finding the game, at least in physical form which is how I prefer. Idk... Iīm not crashing and burning with this, I just thought it could be fun to play it again but as I had a... erhm... slight incident of misuse with my former copy I need to find a new one and thatīs really hard these days.

PW: Hey thanks for that mod link! I've already been to www.modthesims.com and did a bit of window shopping, but I haven't had time to sit down and install my first mod yet. From what I understand, the modding of Sims is not as dynamic as in ES, since Sims Studio doesn't give us the actual tool kit or whatever. I'll definitely try to get that Frostfall mod going.

The dog scared me, lol. It was curled up in a ball in front of the door, and I thought it died, lol. I panicked a bit, because I'm not sure if things die in sims. It got up and instantly started digging around the yard though, lol

You mean with Free Will cranked all the way to max, they will never die? Interesting. I've seen some Sims do some pretty wacky things, like getting obsessed with exercise to the point that they wind up ignoring (let's say) their Bladder, and within a few they pee themselves. I've also seen them fall flat on their face because they choose not to go to bed, to the point that they literally crash on a floor somewhere. I've always assumed this sort of logic applies to their Hunger as well, but come and think of it, I've never had a Sim die before.

Never mind, I figured it out. Here's a few screenshots of my Sims, folks. They're not as cool as Kobbie's, but I just wanted to see if I could actually get this working.

That one is all three of my Sims. For some reason, I have often have a trio of characters: two women and a daughter. I'm not sure why this is, psychologically. There was one time I had three adults and a child, which was fun, but I usually go for the trio.

Anyways, The lady with the black hair is Ashe Hull. She is an Ambitious Workaholic. She's Neurotic, but also Charismatic, and (I think) a Great Kisser. She wants to become CEO of a corporation; this is her dream in life, and she's doing pretty good at it. Making good money.

Her Roommate (with the greyish hair, although this has recently been dyed a true blonde) is Connie Lingus. Connie is a Loser (she occasionally breaks down in tears for no apparent reason), and also Charismatic, a Schmoozer, and has a couple romantic traits that I'm forgetting the names of. Basically Connie's packed with pretty much useless personality traits that make her great at connecting with random strangers, but she has no real goals in life, other than to hook up with as many other Sims as possible.

The young girl is Princess Hull. She's a Snob, and her other traits escape me at the moment. She's doing well in school, even though I don't think I specifically gave her any traits to enhance this.

In the picture above, here we see Connie getting to know their maid. As we can see, she's rather good at schmoozing and bull****ing. She is able to distract this maid from doing her job, after all.

That's Ashe off to work. I love her business outfits. The game automatically assigns these as she rises up at her job, getting promotion after promotion, and with every promotion she looks a little bit more like she's off to a power lunch or something.

How is the base game of Sims 3?

I thought about getting it before but don't want to have to buy DLC in order for it to feel like a full game.

Also, can you directly control the Sims like in Sims 2 or is it like the first one where you just click and tell them what to do?

You don't need to buy DLC for it, it's a pretty full game with lots to do, and I'm not sure if you're on PC or not, but on PC it's open-world. There's a lot of things I can do on PC that the console versions could not do. I can outline some of these things tomorrow perhaps, but right now I'm aiming for bed.

You don't have to buy DLC for it, but I went ahead and got Seasons last week. I've been wanting Seasons for a long time, but it's not available on consoles. This DLC adds different seasons (of course), a variety of weathers, and the effects of such on our Sims. So sunburns, freezing, catching colds (etc.) are possible.



It's like the first one, so no direct-control; only point and click. I don't remember whether the first Sims and Sims 2 featured Free Will or not, but in Sims 3 we can crank this up all the way, and if we don't give them a command, after awhile they'll do their own thing (which we can try to interrupt at any time with a point and click).

I was kinda missing the direct-control of Sims 2, but I've been used to gaming without it for years, now.

I got up early this morning, made waffles for breakfast, and now I'm eating while playing some Sims 3.

Nothing exciting is going on atm. Ashe Hull is about to start another week of power-work. She's a Workaholic and a Loner, so I decided to get her a computer. A laptop. She works at home occasionally, for hours and hours. She just made 384 Simoleans while doing so.

She's made a lot of money over the summer, and she's got over 4 grand saved. It's possible to buy lots (parcels of land) in the PC version of S3, which is probably what she's going to do. Lots are cheaper than actual houses, she can buy a lot for just over 2,000 Simoleans. In contrast, houses start at about 17,000 iirc. After Ashe buys her land, she's going to start building her own house here. This is where it's going to get really cool. I have no idea what sort of house to build.

I'm actually thinking of building a home similar to one I've seen in one of the better neighborhoods nearby me, but I don't know which house yet. I might go out driving around with my cell camera this week, find a cool-looking house, and take a pic of this house (from a safe distance). Then I'll try to replicate the look and layout of Ashe's dream home.

The house they live in now (pictured above) is a starter; one of the houses that is pre-built at the start of the game. It's narrow and gets cramped sometimes. Thank goodness none of my current Sims are slobs! Anyways, instead of buying another house (or modifying the one they live in now), Ashe is going to buy a lot. Then she'll be able to build her dream house slowly.

Connie Lingus is the world's greatest schmoozer. She don't work, don't have a desire to work, and why should she? Ashe makes plenty for the both of them!

At this moment, here we see that the showerhead has sprung a leak. There's a repairwoman trying to fix this, but can't get anything done because Connie won't let her! She keeps chatting and chatting with the poor woman.

Sims is a different sort of gaming than ES and FO for sure, it's hard to explain. You should eventually get this game, mirocu (or at least rent it to see if you'll like it). You can create a Sim, I'd love to see what you come up with.

And I promise not to give you any [censored] about creating additional Sims. ha ha

That repairwoman got frustrated and left. She fixed the TV, but still hasn't fixed the shower! All 'cause of Connie's desire to be popular. And in the picture below, here we see Connie trying to chat with yet another Sim in Central Park, but it's raining outside, so the other Sim seems to be getting frustrated. See the red symbols above their heads? that means the Sims are having a bad interaction.

I love customizing clothes, and Connie's now wearing her Daisy Duke outfit. :yuck: She is also barefoot. I wonder if she's going to catch another cold due to the rain?

Edit 2: Ashe Hulll came home early and caught Connie Lingus cheating with the maid! I'll put a screenie up later, sorry I keep putting these up, but it's so easy on PC. Anyways, Ashe gave Connie hell, and so now they broke up. :cry: I looked in their friends list and they've gone from "Romantic Interests" to "Acquaintances".

I admit I manipulate some situations, but in this case it's all Free Will, so whether or not Connie and Ashe become friends again? I'm not sure what's gonna happen. Right now Connie is on the laptop, creating an online profile so she can start dating.

lOL not even close! Good lord, if I looked that hot, I wouldn't be here playing video games so often. I was better-looking when I was younger, but I didn't look like Connie.

Tonight there are some interesting developments.

1). Not sure if I mentioned it or not, but Ashe and Connie had a thing going, and Ashe caught Connie with the maid. So I RP'd that Ashe demanded Connie get a job or move out. Connie is supposed to be looking for a job on the computer, but instead she opened up a profile on an online dating service.

2). She got 4 responses from the service. Since all 4 Sims left interesting messages (I'd like to get closer to you, etc.) she responded to all 4 of these Sims. So Connie could possibly have 4 dates, while trying to look for a job.

3). Connie's not the only one who's having fun. Out of the blue, a Sim named Monika Morris called Ashe Hull. Asked her on a date. I am not entirely sure what's going on now, but Ashe had a spontaneous moment: left home to take a limousine to a nearby art gallery. I've never seen this spontaneity from her before (or Connie for that matter). Edit: Apparently the trip to the art gallery WAS her date. Once she got there, a message showed up from Monika that she got 'caught up in something'.

Poor Ashe. She got stood up by another Sim.

4). Ashe already made her Lifetime Wish. She's become CEO of a Corporation. This happened a little too fast on PC; On consoles the career-climbing seemed to be slower.

Here are some of my latest Sims 3 moments.

1). Apparently we can get some meds in the game to cure sickness. Now that Fall has begun in-game, the hospital is finally offering flu shots. Ashe went ahead and got a shot, and Princess will also do so on the weekend, but Connie is too much of a space cadet. She hasn't even found a job yet.

2). Now that Fall has begun, leaves start piling up on the ground, and some of the Sims rake these up. It's not 100% realistic (the animations for all this) but eventually there will be a large pile of leaves somewhere, and the Sims can play in this. I haven't seen any leaves change color on trees yet, that would be really neat if this happens.

3). Just before summer ended there were a couple hail storms. This time, the animation is pretty realistic, as chunks of hail fall on the ground and bounce everywhere!

4). Connie's girlfriend is still the maid. She's had her second date with this maid (whose name is Kate). During the date, which was in a park, Connie started flirting with yet another Sim! Although I usually let her do her own thing, I had to interrupt that moment!

5). I haven't figured out how to sell items yet, so whenever something gets replaced in their home, I tend to just drag it out into the yard. I moved their old shower out there, right in the middle of some grass. Connie and Ashe seem to love it out there; they actually prefer taking showers outdoors. :ermm:

6). Ashe bought a second plot of land. The first one she bought was a plot she found online--she went on her laptop and found an option to buy land. Anyways, at first I had no idea where the land she just bought was, and I accidently bought another plot of land after exploring the town a bit. So now she's got two plots of land, which means she can eventually build two houses if she wants to. I put flooring down for one of these future houses.

Also, for those who don't know it yet, my first PC mods are for Sims 3. I'm slowly turning into a modding queen, folks. So far, the mods I've DL'd include a No Intro mod (disables the game's intro movie), a No Pixelation (nude) mod, a height-slider mod (this makes new Sims taller or shorter, I haven't used it yet, though), a mod which I can use to play my own music in the game (this assumes a stereo is nearby--my music will play out of this stereo), Longer Seasons (the default for Seasons is 28 days max. With this mod Seasons can last up to 84 days), Sims Life Aging Mod (SLAM, this is what I used to make them live longer), and a mod which gives new babies Zodiac signs that match the actual month they are born in. Since Connie and Ashe haven't had any babies, this mod lies dormant for now.

Speaking for myself, the pixellation was disturbing. That horrible effect took me right out of the game every time. So the one and only mod Sims 3 I've ever installed was a nude mod.

That was my very first mod. Ever. I had some troubles figuring out how it's supposed to work, but once I actually got it going, I had to reload my game twice, just to make sure (Holy Crap!) there really was no more intro movie.

The no intro mod is somewhere on the page above; it's basically used as a test to see if you're doing things right. Most of the Mods I've found are clothing, makeup, and other such mods. Houses. Cars. Behavior modifications. That sort of thing. So far I'm not really interested in any of these; there's so much to explore in the vanilla game. I don't want to clutter it up with a bunch of fluff to confuse me. Not yet, anyways.

You can, but this means you have to wait until the intro actually shows up. You have to wait for several little animations (like the Maxis logo) come and go before the intro movie starts. This takes 20 or 30 seconds.

So in other words, if the intro movie is disabled, that's 20 or 30 seconds saved. I don't have to wait through those seconds to press a button on my keyboard, which means I can do something else. I can nuke a meal or change clothes or whatever.


I was trying to be subtle. Believe me, the last thing I'd want to see is me (the producer of Ashe and Connie) getting fined right when the show's taking off. That's my roleplay with Sims 3, by the way--I am the producer and director of their reality show.

It's such a great roleplay, too. I pretend my Sims have small earpieces (disguised as ear rings) equipped. Although they can do things on their own, I can also give them suggestions here and there. So (let's say) if there's somebody cute I want Connie to check out, I'll click on that Sim and off she goes.

Exactly! I'm not an obsessive reality show watcher, but I've sat down and watched portions of them before. Ya know: Keeping up with the Kardashians, Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, that sort of thing. They're not entirely "reality" anymore, there's a lot of production going on at all times. Somebody's telling them what to do, but there is also often some leeway, in the sense that the stars of these shows can go their own directions if they want to (to some extent).

http://www.cops.com/ is the original reality show. It's the only one that's completely unscripted.

Connie bought a car. It's the cheapest in the entire game. Only cost 950 Simoleans. I'm wondering if Sims 3 simulates cars breaking down? This looks like the sort that would break down all the time.

That's an example of the Seasons DLC doing its thing. It never rains in the vanilla game; I'm not even sure if it gets overcast. Anyways, here we can see some rain. Also: notice the trees. It's Autumn, and those trees are definitely changing color.

That's Princess playing in some leaves. Although the animation is not entirely realistic, the leaves actually do come off the ground, so it takes awhile for a leaf pile like this to form.

Ashe went up to her plot of land today. She actually owns two plots at the moment, and is building a house on one of them. Last time she was here, she had the pretend builders put down a black stone floor, and off-white walls. This is just the shell of the house, and I forget how much all of this cost.

I think she had about 5,000 S or maybe 6,000 (S meaning Simoleans, which is their form of money). Well, she wound up spending almost ALL her Simoleans today. She's a 'classy' woman, so what's happening is she tends to go for the best stuff she can buy. She has expensive taste, and we're slowly building a good-looking house.

Today the builders wound up building a few walls to make a bathroom. Put a counter in there, and a sink. One mirror. A couple towel racks and windows. Two doors. A shower, toilet, roll dispenser, trash can, and some lights. She put several other windows in, like 7 or 8 windows. A couple doors, front and rear. A loveseat, and a refrigerator.

So basically, she finished ONE room (the bathroom), put some windows in, some doors, a loveseat and a 'fridge. After this ALMOST ALL HER MONEY WAS GONE! She could have bought cheaper stuff, and filled up other rooms, but her tastes are too expensive, apparently.

She also bought her own car. It's black and looks kinda like a Lexus or a Mercedes. I took screenies of all this! Probably put 'em up later this week.

Interesting. I find that Ashe Hull (as CEO of her megacorporation) earns money a little too quickly. But now that she's building her house she also burns through her money very fast.

It's currently a single-story home; eventually she's going to add a second floor. I'm not too crazy about the roof color; I'll have to see about changing it if possible.

This just in! I found a http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=490536 that makes toddlers, children, and teens grow a little bit each day!

In the vanilla game, what happens is when a toddler becomes a child, they grow all a sudden. It's as if they're 3 one day and 7 the next. Same thing happens from Child to Teen. Well, what this mod does is makes them grow progressively, so that they're a little taller each day. Yeah, this is gonna be AMAZING.

It will take her two hours to take a bath and get clean enough to be in the green. it'll take several hours, about six, to get her meter nearly full. Same with eating. I know buying better stuff helps fix it, but she barely has time to sleep, plus bathe, eat, and get ready in time for work in the AM. And skipping one makes her really grouchy. I usually sacrifice her cleanliness so she doesn't faint from lack of food and sleep.

I am actually getting Sims 3 on my gaming computer. I've been wanting to S3 for weeks now, but kept putting it off. I think it has something to do with this time of year. I go through phases. For awhile I'll be REALLY into a Sims game, then all the sudden I'll turn it off for half a year or so.

Anyways, expect some more pictures, I guess. I have this idea of making a police woman named Linda Hand (get it?) who lives with some other people.
