I'm thinking of getting the new "Hardcore" hack-n'-slash dark souls for my birthday, since http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ5gLGWcKBY Sure, the game looks pretty tempting to me, but what do you all think?

Make of that what you will.

I don't really think that Skyrim and Dark Souls are really comparable beyond "they both have swords."

Oh andhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnUGxY_b00Y is pretty funny. Strong language.

Short answer: It's great.

Long answer: Players of Demon's Souls will feel right at home with Dark Souls. The gameplay mechanics are much the same, just refined. The exploration is top-notch. The greater the risk you take, the greater the payoff if you succeed. Some of the areas and enemies will make you want to just go back and chill at the bonfire and the areas you've explored.

But that feeling when you do progress, when you kill that giant that kept stomping you into an undead pancake, when you cut off the last head of the hydra, when you smash those huge skeletons into pieces and loot the artifact behind them or when you take down that one demon with the help of another player: priceless.

I've thought about getting this one but couldn't really decide. I found out redbox has them for $2.00 a night. Will definately try it there and if it is good I'll pick it up soon.

As someone who has been a console gamer since the original Nintendo and Atari, I'm excited that a dev has gone back to challenging players rather than waving them through the game like most games do these days.

To all those who bought this game; have you gone past the second level yet? The one with a dragon strafing a bridge after a fight with a goat demon? Im still there and has made no progress whatsoever. Here I thought I was an experienced player but this game...

IT IS A NIGHTMARE. I have no regrets buying this game, but dayyyuuuuuuuum. 15 hours and still at the 2nd level...

Well, how about you guys? Making progress or losing hair?

I,m slightly further ahead, above a blacksmith close to the undead church.

If you cant get past the DRAKE, keep speaking to the guy you meet if you go right, instead of across the bridge, he will give you a white sign soapstone and you can cross half the bridge. You should see a staircase to your right, so quickly run down it before your cooked! now, go through the door NOT under the bridge and you can kick down a ladder to the bonfire.

Hope this helps! smile.gif

The guy that gives you- Oh. That guy. Heh. Hehe. Hehehehehehehe. Let's just say that when I get seriously frustrated, I make some idiotic mistakes. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Good thing I killed him when he gave the white rock thingy.

And it worked! I just ran, ran past those hollows and took cover from the drake's fire. My heart beat so fast, I thought I'd have a heart attack. Whew! Thanks guys!

Sorry for the double post, but I want to thank Rane. At first I didn't understand, but after consulting some of my peers.. Well, thanks man!

That .. was one hell of a weapon. Made my boss fights easier. How can I ever repay you for sharing that blessing?! You're a frikkin' messiah, is what you are! Thanks again!
