The Flying Bullets

Sam Gorrose

The massive walls of haven were high enough to blot out the sun, the ancient structure creaking and groaning as it warmed in the rising sun. The entrance to the stadium, once a place that bustled with activity as thousands of fans came to support their team, had been replaced by a gate made of scrap bolted together, able to be lifted by an old car engine when the men guarding it so willed.

Sam Gorrose, followed by Aiden and Karelia, smiled as he saw the stadium.

"Here we are, Haven," he announced triumphantly to his two travel weary companions. "I told you we'd make it in the end, didn't I?"

Jonathan Guntherson, labyrinth northeast of Haven

FRIGERIZER Z whirred and clunked as its weels struggled across the cracked and uprooted asphalt. On top of the odd machine, Jonathan was humming along to a tune that only existed in his head.
"And I say, say I say....I forgot what it was I'd say! So then he say...err what did he say?" He suddenly called out, despite the fact that there was no one around to listen.

Man and machine neared a crossroads littered with rusted out hulks.
"And at that moment, the evil undead car army attacked our valiant hero! Will our valiant warrior survive? Or will FRIGERIZER Z succumb to the horrible death rays?! Find out, next week! If we still broadcast!" Jonathan yelled as he swung the steering wheel to one side, intending to go around the wreckage and turn right. However, his energetic movement combined with a bump in the road managed to tilt his vehicle too far. It rolled onto its side, throwing him off in the process.

"The answer it turns out, death rays win. Well drat!" The man murmured as he shook his head. After a moment, he got up off the floor, still wobbling.
"And double drat! The main transmission broke! Argh, there aren't any spare lawnmowers lying around here somewhere, are there?" He looked around at the ruins around him. The place where he was now had been hit hard, not so by the atomic blasts, but the chaos, the rioting and the wild looting that followed.

Still, lawnmowers weren't all that popular among the scavengers he'd met during his life. There should be one or two still lying around in a garage. He patted the frigerator on wheels affectionately before setting off for the nearest ruin.
"Don't worry, old lad. I promise you, that the invincible super robot FRIGERIZER Z SHALL STAND ONCE MORE!!!!"

OOC: Somewhat mentally unstable? I should have said in the character profile that he's completely whacko. Also, do you folks think I should stop spelling Frigerizer Z with all caps? To be honest, it can be quite annoying, even if Jonathan refuses to do anything but yell out its name really loud.

Aiden, gate of Haven

Aiden didn't deign to reply to the leader, instead he pulled his 10mm out with a shaky hand and ejected the clip. Three left, and one in the breach probably. People occasionally commented on that habit, coupled with the broken safty it could lead to the occasional stray bullet. He'd never been hit, much, so it wasn't a problem.

The gates were high and looked quite solid under their covering of rust, one of the men standing on a platform looking over them waved a rifle in their general direction and shouted down, "What's you're business in Haven?"

"A stiff drink and a soft bed, and maybe someone to share it with," Aiden shouted before either of the others could reply, "Now open the gate you stuck-up.." A look from Sam silenced him.

Hurry up, he thought, I really could use that drink...

OOC: I took the liberty of assuming Sam wouldn't approve, I can edit if you don't like it

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 23 2009, 10:25 PM

OOC: Not a problem, Olen

IC: "Don't mind Aiden," Sam called up. "He's a bit loco. We'll just want some beds for tie night."

As the gate rumbled open, Sam gave Aiden a glare.

"You high or something?" he hissed. "That was plain stupid."

Posted by: Olen Apr 23 2009, 11:15 PM

Aiden

"What business does he have asking me why I'm here? I'd say it's obvious, and even if we were raiders we would say that. He's there for the power trip. Twenty kilo's of amonal would give him and the tower quite a trip..." Aiden descended into grumbling as they walked through the gate. It looked heavy and hung from cables rather thinner than he liked.

"You got any contacts here?" he asked.

Gale, workshop

The large table against the wall was covered with disassembled firearms from different eras. Plastic dividers kept the parts separate while they were studied or replaced. Gale settled in an empty slot and stripped his rifle down to its main components. With a rag attached to a rod, he cleaned out the parrel and trigger block.

Then the Native American applied some lubricant to the chamber, magazine well, and foregrip. He slid the barrel back into the trigger block and swung it into place. Gale repeated the process with his pump gun. The young men in the workshop were reloading spent cartridges alongside three of the militia. Reloading greatly supplemented Haven's stockpile of ammunition, thanks to the components looted from gun stores and showrooms. across America.

Gale walked out into the promenade of sorts, rifle slung over his back and shotgun in hand. Haven was a mass of shanties in addition to the original superstructure. In the distance he heard the Southern gate open, which was used almost never used by returning scavengers or returning patrols. They perfered to use the baggage areas so as to avoid overtaxing the engine used to lift the heavy gate.

Gale was by no means the official leader of the minutemen, yet that responsibility always fell on him regardless. He started off toward the newcomers, better for him to know firsthand the types coming in.

Linda, Haven, Rusty Wings
The tavern was dirty, crowded and dimly lit, it's patrons prefering the dark for thier drink-strained eyes. There were calls for booze, or preferred barmaids, and the girls carried trays of alcohol in either direction, to the portly owner, and to the mumbling customers.

Linda sat hunched over in the corner, atop a stool in the back corner, claiming the circular table as her own, having spent the last sevral hours sitting in various positions about it, and warding off any prospective or paticularly flirtacious, drunk, fellows. Now, she had chosen to languish facedown against the soft skin of her forearm, only bothering to brush away the most irritating of the dirt before thumping her forehead upon it.

There was a small scuffle as the traders, upon hearing the heavy gate grinding up, left the establishment, and the calm tension of the thick air broken for a moment with the breath of air that spilled in. The excitied murmurs that accompanied the gust died with it, fading back to the dead air and groaning of the paticularly intoxicated. She hoped they would stop here, maybe there would be an excuse to get out of this hole.

OOC: Psst, Haven is in a old airport terminal. Cornemac was the stadium. Not a big deal. tongue.gif

Karelia

Karelia was relieved at the sight of Haven; after walking for days she was more than happy for a bit of rest. She entered the gate behind the others, laughing to herself while Sam and Aidan quibbled. She liked her eight-fingered friend's attitude.

Her legs were weary, and she felt like the rifle slung over her shoulder weighed a ton, so she was less than happy when a figure began to approach them. He seemed to be some sort of official, since he was 'greeting' newcomers with visible firearms. They'd been turned away from settlements before, and this was the way it always started.

"We've got a captain-of-the-guard-type coming," she commented with a sigh, "I hope you've got a contact that can keep us here long enough to sleep."

Posted by: jack cloudy Apr 24 2009, 09:33 PM

Jonathan

"Hello, anyone home?!" Jonathan called out as he entered the building through a large gap in one wall. He repeated his call one more time but didn't receive an answer.
"Ah well, guess no....Achoo! Ok, with all the dust lying around, no one has been home in a long time." He muttered, wiping his nose as he did so. He then snickered.
"Mmhmhmh, I'll be taking all the good stuff then, if no one is around to complain. Oh, shiny lawnmowers, ancient blenders and broomsticks...Here I come!"

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 24 2009, 10:42 PM

Sam Gorrose

Sam adopted his widest smile as he heard Karelia's warning, tipping his hat slightly to the approaching man.

"This is a big town," he said. "Bound to be people with guns passing through all the time. And we've arrived early so I dunno if he'll be here yet so just act polite."

He gave Aiden a pointed look when he said that.

Hannah

Hannah was up on a balcony near the Southern gate and saw Gale approaching the three newcomers. She hoped he didn't make them leave, they might be interesting, and have some new stories.

The stocky man she assumed was the leader put on a huge smile. If he kept that up they were going to get kicked out for sure.

Brushing her dark hair out of her eyes she watched with sharp eyes. As Gale finally reached them, she settled onto the rail to watch the proceedings.

Posted by: Lord Revan Apr 25 2009, 02:48 AM

Gale

He approached the group of three with his long, powerful strides. 'More guns-for-hire, too many drifters these days.'

Gale tipped his baseball cap in return to the man who seemed to lead of the trio. "The name's Richards. Welcome to Haven, the safest place in Detroit's post-war glory for the restless blue-collar looking for a better life."

The deep, almost baritone drawl seemed at odds with Gale's relative youth. His green-blue eyes seemed to have an inner glow, staring out from under the shade of his cap. "What brings you all to Haven's door?"

------

Autumn, approaching

Among the guard and most of Haven's citizens, she was jokingly known as "Gale's Shadow." Autumn didn't mind the label, it was a statement of fact, she did trail her "father" most of the time.

Like a hooded spectre, she drifted out of the canteen to Gale's side. Autumn looked deceptively delicate, not at all the active member of the militia she was. One would assume her sport was courting young men not blasting varmints and Super Mutants.
She gazed sidelong at the three outsiders, her face angled towards Gale. Her shoulder length dishwater-blonde hair framing her face.

Linda

Loathe to lose her place behind the table, her natural curiousity got the better of her, and she found herself weaving between the flouring patrons and employees. She creaked open the door, starting a bustle once more, before slipping out and to the right, leaning agains the wall for a moment, then moving to the overhanging railing. The new wanderers had been stopped by Gale just inside the gate, and it looked like they were about to start a conversation of sorts.

The threesome that had come in from the wastelands looked scruffy, but that was to be expected. She waved at the girl who hung back a little, spotting the glimmer of light on the glass of a scope with a smile, Excellent, this bunch might actually go back out there...

Posted by: Dantrag Apr 25 2009, 09:59 AM

Karelia

And so it begins... she thought to herself ruefully as the man approached them.

She stayed silent as usual behind Sam and Aidan, letting them do this kind of talking. Knowing that she had a moment to stand here, she put a cigarette to her lips. As she lit the thing, a girl joined their little get-together. Karelia didn't know what to think of her; it was curious to see a man like this with a girl so young and pretty, and they looked far too different to be related. Curious, yes, but not important.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted someone waving from a railing above. All this buzz made her think that people didn't see newcomers very often here. She waved back to the woman before turning her attention back to the matter at hand.

Come on, Sam, get this over with so I can stop standing here.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 25 2009, 11:33 AM

Sam

"Nice to meet you, Mr Richards," Sam said warmly. "I've been promised a job here, and need to meet a contact in a few days. Don't worry, we won't make any trouble or anything, though if there's work available we'll take it."

He saw the girl join this Richards guy. She definitely wasn't his daughter, but there was definitely some kind of relationship between them. Perhaps it was by adoption.

"Name's Sam, by the way," he added. "Sam Gorrose."

Lexie, the Ruin which Jonathan just entered

The abandoned ruin was just what Lexie needed, being on the run as she was. She had crouched here for three days now, trying to hide from the regulators(?). She had scanned the place for any remnants of radiation and found that it should be ok to be there, if not very healthy, but...ok.

She was deep asleep but wouke up abruptly when she heard someone shout, shout very loud indeed. At first she was terrified

No they found me, yikes!

But then curiosity won and she grabbed a neat stone..just in case. She was indeed good at throwing stones.

"Hallo! Over here!" she answered

OOC: It's Jonathan she heard , hehe pretty obvious huh?

Posted by: Lord Revan Apr 25 2009, 05:42 PM

Gale

As I thought, at least this Gorrose isn't a hothead like the last band two weeks ago. "There is a common house in Delta Terminal for sleep, and you'll find most of our amenities in the concourse beyond." Gale jabbed his head back in its direction. "Weapons are allowed in Haven, but only in open carry. Use your sense and there shouldn't be any trouble."

Posted by: jack cloudy Apr 25 2009, 06:17 PM

Jonathan.

"Hallo! Over here!" Someone shouted. Jonathan interupted his cackling and scratched the back of his head.
"Aw, shucks. So someone is home. So much for that." He complained to himself and sighed.
"Oh well, nothing left for me to do but be a proper gentleman. I mean, it sounded like a lady. Only a savage would dare be rude to one." He figured as he turned into the direction of the sound. He was pretty sure it had come from a room upstairs. An old bedroom?

Jonathan inspected the remains of the stairs and found that if he was carefull, he could climb to the upper floor using the wreckage.
"Good morning and pardon the intrusion." He said as he made his way up.
"I was just passing through with my loyal comrade...who's still waiting outside." He continued and peeked through a hole in the wall. From here, he could see all the way to Haven. It was a perfect lookout post.
"Ah, you in there, milady?" He asked as he stood in the doorway to what had been a bedroom long ago. The steel frame of the bed was still there, and it even had a matrass...albeit one with several holes in it and several decades spent without cleaning.

OOC: Feel free to have Lexie hide somewhere else in the house if you don't want to be in an upstairs bedroom.

Posted by: minque Apr 25 2009, 06:29 PM

Lexie, hiding in the old bedroom upstairs

She crouched under the bed , or what used to be a bed, when a young man entered. He didn't look dangerous, but the best thing wes that he wasn't one of them.

She crawled from under the bed, wiping the dust from her trousers, not that it made them any cleaner, but she didn't care about her looks at the moment.

"Good day to you Sir" she said. Doesn't hurt to be polite

"My name is Lexie" she continued, not knowing exactly how to approach him. She hadn't been with people for a long time and felt terribly unsecure.

OOC: Lexie will eventually later tell her story when talking to Jonathan. She's very shy and unsecure but she wishes everybody good and is far too caring for her own good

Posted by: jack cloudy Apr 25 2009, 06:38 PM

Jonathan

For a moment, Jonathan was actually surprised when someone crawled out from under the bed.
"Perhaps, I had been half-convinced I'd just imagined her voice." He mused.

"Good day, milady. My name would be Jonathan Guntherson, inventor by trade and currently travelling towards Haven." He then said with a bow.
"Err...by the way. You wouldn't by any chance be aware of a lawnmower I could borrow, would you?"

Posted by: seerauna Apr 25 2009, 09:44 PM

Hannah

As Hannah watched, Autumn drifted up to Gale, hanging back slightly like she normally did. The woman in the back of the small group of newcomers lit a cigarette and waved to someone Hannah couldn't see. She looked bored and anxious at the same time.

They were probably curious as to why they were attracting so much attention, she thought wryly. She knew she had been. Gale had kicked the last band of drifters out of Haven, and almost everyone would want to know if they stayed.

So far, she was the only one that had gone unnoticed but that was normal. Not many people paid attention to someone as small or young as Hannah.

She started to notice small details that had escaped her notice before. The other man only had eight fingers and what she suspected were burn scars ran up both his arms. The woman looked a little too thin, she thought. Maybe from wandering out on the Wastelands for too long.

Gale and the leader were talking, with Gale pointing back towards the Delta Terminal. Why were they taking so long? The rail was becoming uncomfortable with its little imperfections sticking up everywhere. She shifted her weight to relieve the cramps forming in her legs from sitting still for so long.

OOC: Had to fix everything, I kept writing in first person. kvright.gif

Sam

"Don't you worry, Mr Richards," Sam said. "Sense is our middle name. Or mine at least."

He glanced back at Aiden and Karelia, who was now smoking a cigarette.

"Come on you two," he said. "Let's go get something to eat."

Posted by: Silver Apr 26 2009, 03:06 AM

Linda

Linda headed back inside the tavern, clearing off the table she had left, the garbage having accumulated at an amazing rate, and sitting down in the corner in a old car bench-seat.

She kicked her feet up onto the tarnished, dirty wood and waited, hoping that at least some of the newcomers would head up here, instead of staying down in the 'clean' part of town.

Posted by: Olen Apr 26 2009, 03:42 PM

Aiden

Aiden smiled as Sam persuaded the man who'd called himself Richards that they wouldn't cause any trouble. He was right, probably. Aiden didn't mind a little bit of trouble now and then but he knew it was bad for business and wasn't going to go looking for any.

Sam said something about food.

Aiden nodded, "Sounds good, I'll head by a trader at some point but later. I dare say the local tavern will serve food so that's where I'm going. Come along," he motioned to both Sam and Karelia, "Unless you've something else to do. If you need me you'll know where to look."

He started walking away towards an area of the town which looked rougher and more run-down. He really wanted that drink. He hadn't gone very far at all when he saw a dirty building with a sign reading 'The Rusty Wings'. Above a cluster of drunks outside two sheets of metal were welded together in a way which looked vaguely like wings. They were, indeed, very rusty.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 26 2009, 09:17 PM

Sam

As Aiden headed off to find the local tavern, Sam occupied himself with finding lodgings for his two colleagues. He headed toward the large building, with a roughly painted, rusted sign on it saying 'Delta Terminal.' With luck he could find some place to stay, or at the very least stock up on ammo.

"Karelia, go find something to do," he ordered as he headed off. Hopefully there would be room at the common house that Richards guy had mentioned.

Karelia

"Karelia, go find something to do," she mocked Sam once he'd walked beyond earshot. She smiled sheepishly when she realized that Richards and his little female friend were still standing there.

In her head, she cursed her friends for leaving her alone with these two.

"So I'll...uh...see you guys around," she said hastily before running off to catch up with Aidan. When she finally did, they entered the Rusty Wings Tavern. A fitting name, judging by the exterior.

"You want a drink?" she asked him, "I've got a few caps left from when I sold that harmonica to a drifter, and all I want to do right now is sit and relax."

Posted by: Silver Apr 26 2009, 11:26 PM

Linda

Her hand quickly shot out, catching the twirling microfusion cell that had fallen off the little tower she had been building upon the table. The rest of the brightly coloured cells swayed dangerously, and she nonchalantly knocked them into a baggie along with the rest of them that she owned. Two of the new wanderers had entered the bar, and with a little smirk, she slid her feet off the stool on the far side of the table.

With a quick gesture, and the slipping of a pair of MF cells into a nearby barmaid's hand, the table was soon set up for three to sit around, one next to her one the bench, and one on the stool across. Three some-what less grungy glasses sat on the table, Linda's was glowing a soft blue, the other two plain beer.

Gale

After the final newcomer departed, Autumn caught her father's eye. With a sigh, Gale told her. "Let them be, someone else will deal with them if they cause trouble."

He gave her a stern look that placed emphasis on 'someone else.'

Autumn nodded reluctantly, and both of them strode off down the concourse.

Lexie

"A lawnmower??, ehh well there might be one outside..but what will you do with a lawnmower? There's no grass here..or am i missing something?"

Lexie shook her head..

Now what? I'm stuck here with a lunatic, jeez, gotta get out of here

Karelia

The sun was nearly gone for the day, so it was no surprise that the bar was packed. She spotted three open seats next to a familiar face; the one who'd waved at her moments ago. Trying to avoid sitting there, she kept looking around. Nothing else. Aidan didn't answer her; she wondered if he even heard. Not bothering to repeat herself, Karelia grabbed the nearest barmaid by the arm.

"Put a scotch on that table?"

The barmaid nodded and strode off while Karelia approached the table. She wasn't sure if Aidan would follow or not, and didn't bother to look back.

On second thought, he's coming. Aidan never passes up an opportunity to talk to a woman.

"You care if I sit?" she asked the woman just as the barmaid placed the scotch on the table. She noticed two beers unaccounted for, and thought that maybe this woman already had company.

Posted by: jack cloudy Apr 27 2009, 09:31 AM

Jonathan.

"No no, I do not require a lawnmower to take care of a lawn. Rather, I need some parts to fix my friend and a lawnmower happens to have just the ones I need." He said while making a dismissive gesture with his hands.
"Or at least, good enough to last till I can make some proper parts. So, I assume you have no objections if I take one apart?"

"Outside? That's wonderfull. That means less dragging. Oh, just wait for me, FRIGERIZER Z!!! And don't get stolen!"

Posted by: seerauna Apr 27 2009, 01:11 PM

Two of the newcomers headed down to the rougher part of town, while the leader headed off to the terminal. Hannah wasn't sure whether she wanted to meet either but eventually decided to find the leader. The others had probably gone to a bar, and she didn't want to go find which one.

Climbing down from the railing, she went towards the Delta Terminal just behind Gale and Autumn who turned somewhere else about halfway there.

Reaching the terminal, she had no idea at all where to go first. Where would he have gone first? She had no idea, so she wandered until she finally spotted him. Hannah hung back, unsure exactly how to approach him.

Aiden, the rusty wings

The inside of the bar was dank and crowed and exactly what Aiden was hoping for. Karelia ordered a bottle of scotch, he assumed she'd be fine sharing if he got the next round, especially seeing as he had a packet of cigarettes which weren't too stale. He followed her to the only free table where a small hispanic-looking woman sat with two empty chairs.

"Afternoon," he said.

Posted by: Silver Apr 27 2009, 07:56 PM

Linda

She shook her head softly, Ah well, looks like I'm not buying, then edged over on the bench to let the other woman sit down. A polite nod to Aiden, and then Linda went back to sitting silently in the corner sipping on her drink, occasionally stirring it with her finger.

She tilted her head curiously at the two of them, then patted down her pockets until she found a piece of paper and a stubby pencil, quickly scribbling a message, - What brings you out this way?

Posted by: Dantrag Apr 27 2009, 08:34 PM

Karelia

Karelia sat down after leaning her rifle against the wall behind her. She took a swig of scotch before sliding it down the table to Aidan. As she did so, she noticed that their table-mate had furnished a pencil and paper, and was writing.

Karelia stamped out her cigarette on the floor and grabbed the paper once she was done writing.

"What brings you out this way?" she read the note aloud.

"Hopefully work," she answered. There was a delay, as Karelia was expecting some sort of response, but got none. Realizing her error, she handed the paper back to the woman.

"Might as well write your name down, too," she said, "I'm Karelia, this here is Aidan. And tell him to stop hogging the scotch if you want some."

Posted by: Olen Apr 27 2009, 08:46 PM

Aiden

Aiden took a long swig from the bottle then sighed. "Stop your nagging," he muttered to Karelia and poured a generous measure into a cleanish looking mug which had been left on the table. The whisky would kill anything nasty in there anyway. He pulled out a packet of cigarettes from his pocket, took one then slid the them and bottle back across the table. "Got a light?" he asked.

He looked at the woman opposite. A mute then, he shrugged slightly, there were all sorts in the wasteland. "Do you now anyone hiring?" he asked as Karelia passed the pad and paper back across. He took a drink from his mug and sighed. He'd been needing it.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 27 2009, 09:00 PM

Sam

Sam's short walk to Delta Terminal warranted him a few glances, probably because he wasn't local, but he ignored him. He figured he could take on any idiot locals who wanted trouble. Unless of course there was a big gang of them. But then he could just run.

Luckily, he made it through town unmolested and reached Delta Terminal. He headed inside, following a sign saying 'Accommodation,' before heading into a large room, various bunks stacked against the wall. Sam viewed it with a smile-it was hardly luxurious, but compared to sleeping on Wasteland soil it could have easily been one of the famous hover-beds that were supposedly made just before the wall. Sam had always secretly entertained the dream of finding one and keeping it for himself.

There was a man sleeping at a desk at the room, and Sam guessed that he was the guy you asked about for beds.

"Hey, this where we get beds?" he asked loudly, hoping to wake the man up. All he got was snores, so he tried again. Sam instead opted to just poke the man in his flabby stomach.

He woke through with a snort, before fixing Sam with a bloodshot glare.

"Whaddya want?" he growled though a bristly black beard.

"How much for a bed?" Sam asked.

"How long you staying?" the man asked.

"Few days," Sam replied. "So how much?"

"Ten caps per day," the man replied.

"Alright then," Sam said. "Three beds."

"Thirty caps," the man said. After Sam handed the currency over and he had counted them, he jerked his thumb towards the door. "Geddout. I'm sleepin'."

Sam headed out and decided to find the local tavern. Knowing Aiden and Karelia, they would have gotten themselves something to drink already.

Posted by: Silver Apr 27 2009, 09:01 PM

Linda

"...Linda." She whispered quietly, barely audible over the noise of the other patrons. She smiled softly at the other girl, Well, noone ever realizes it right away, anyway. She twirled the pencil thoughtlessly across the paper, before looking up at Aiden.

She shook her head, and made a soft, rasping laugh. She quickly wrote out another message - I was hoping you bunch were hiring. She brushed her cloak back a little, showing the laser rifle that was strapped beneath it, and the pistol at her hip, then shrugged.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 27 2009, 09:17 PM

Sam

Once Sam had gotten the beds, he headed back into the town to check out the local tavern. He needed a drink before anything.

He headed inside the bustling tavern and looked around for Aiden and Karelia. He found them sitting around a table with another woman who he didn't recognise. He headed over and sat down, using his bulk to shove through the crowd. A couple of drunks gave him a dirty glare, but decided against picking a fight with him-his shotgun and combat armour were enough of a deterrent.

"So," he asked as he sat down, shoving Aiden along the seat to make some room. "Who's this then?"

Posted by: Dantrag Apr 28 2009, 12:56 AM

Karelia

"This is Linda," she said to Sam, "Looking for work, just like us."

She tossed a book of matches to Aidan on his request for a light, "We're back to flint and steel when those are gone."

It was up to Sam as to whether or not this woman would be allowed to join their group, and money was scarce right now so she didn't know how he would feel about splitting profits with another person. They could work it out by themselves.

He moved off before Hannah had a chance to decide herself. Well crap. She tailed the newcomer as he walked back in the direction the other two had gone. After looking momentarily at the sign on the outside of the first bar, he walked inside.

Hannah craned her head to look at the sign. The Rusty Wings, of course. Well she wasn't going in there, they would probably just kick her out anyways. She sighed moodily in frustration. Here went another long wait for people she hadn't even met yet. Settling against the railing, she kept watch.

Aiden

Aiden pulled a match from the book and struck it on the wall next to him. He took a second to appreciate as the head bust into flame then lit his cigarette and flicked the match away not really caring if it hit anyone. Just then Sam emerged from the crowd and pushed him along the bench. He quickly retrieved his cup and took another drink.

He looked back at the woman who had called herself Linda, it was an impressive bit of kit she had. If she knew how to use it, and by the way she held herself she did, then she had his vote. Not that that meant much, Sam would decide. He flicked the matches back to Karelia and decided he'd voice his opinion anyway.

"Have you got much ammo for that thing?" he asked Linda, "They take MF cells right? Still with another person, and a gun like that, we could take on bigger jobs with better pay." the last line he directed at Sam, he didn't know if the man had seen the laser rifle and hoped not. It would certainly pique his interest.

Posted by: Silver Apr 28 2009, 12:39 PM

Linda

She slid back in the bench a little, one hand bringing forth a canvas baggie, which by the looks of the stretched sides contained at least a few dozen cells. Her other hand rested lightly on the pistol, she shook the bag once, letting it rattle, before putting it away, and finishing the dregs of her drink. "Enough." She murmured.

The newcomer seemed to be the de facto leader, and she looked him over with a careful eye, Well, he seems to be all in order... She frowned for a moment, then relaxed, slumping against the bench and taking a quick puff of Jet from an inhaler that she drew from the bosom of her leather armour by the thin chain that hung around her neck.

Posted by: Olen Apr 28 2009, 01:13 PM

Aiden

Linda pulled out a bag of MF cells and Aiden nodded appreciatively. She had plenty ammo for the thing too, she put the bag away then took a puff of jet. He smiled, she'd get on just fine with Karelia. He took drink and was disappointed to find his cup empty, "Pass me the scotch please," he said.

Linda put away the jet, "Do you know anyone who might need our services in town?" he asked, "Or even where people go to hire folks like us?" Some towns had a bar where those with money could hire people to do whatever they needed doing, "And what's the local trader like?"

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Apr 28 2009, 08:47 PM

Sam

Sam saw the heat the girl was packing and nodded approvingly. The job he had been promised here was big, and with the fifteen thousand cap payment promised by his contact he could certainly afford to hire on somebody new.

"Alright," Sam said. "If you can prove your worth, then you're on board."

Posted by: Dantrag Apr 28 2009, 10:59 PM

Karelia

"Lasers are boring," she commented, "All disintegration, no blood. Welcome to the crew anyway, I suppose."

A few moments earlier, when she decided to let Sam and Linda work things out by themselves, she hadn't imagined that Sam would actually let her join. Karelia didn't see the point in recruiting more people. They'd been doing just fine with only the three of them so far, and now her shares of pay were going to be smaller. She took a long drink from the bottle then, giving Sam a displeased look at the same time.

She slid the bottle back across the table to Aidan and grabbed the book of matches and her rifle, "I'm going outside for another smoke."

She made her way out of the establishment and found herself leaning against a railing next to a shorter woman, no girl, with a baseball cap. Lighting up again, Karelia gave her a nod before watching the town around them in silence, wrapping her brain around the fact that they had a new member now.

Sam better have a damn good job lined up.

In the end it didn't matter, though. They would survive, just like they always did, though now it would be with less caps. While she often disagreed with Sam, it didn't change the fact that she was still one hundred percent loyal to the man ever since he rescued her from the Regulators back in DC.

OOC: the girl is Hannah, if i didn't make it obvious enough.

Posted by: seerauna Apr 28 2009, 11:23 PM

Hannah
OOC: It was obvious enough to notice.

IC: Hannah smiled quickly at the woman coming out of The Rusty Wings, wondering whether she would care if she talked to her. She might and Hannah didn't want to bother anyone too much so she stayed in her position against the railing.

She was bored, and needed something to do that wouldn't get her in trouble with Gale. Idly touching the barrell of the hunting rifle slung over her shoulder, her mind wandered coming up with a solution to her boredom.

An idea lit up her mind a few minutes later, and she headed towards the Southern Gate, which had just enough space at the bottom for her to squeeze through. Time for a little target practice, she thought, readying her rifle, a small smile slowly spreading across her face.

*my mistake, fixed.*

Posted by: Silver Apr 30 2009, 04:21 AM

Linda

She was haflway through scribbling out a reply to Karelia when the other girl left, leaving her there holding the note, and looking rather foolish. She tore it up, and let the pieces drift to the floor. Her gaze returned to Sam, and she shrugged. A new piece of paper found it's way to her hand, and she scratched a new message onto it ; How am I supposed to 'prove', anything?

OOC: Errr... This was a closed game... And why the Pitt? kvright.gif

OOC: Priest, the RP's closed, and even if it wasn't we're all in Detroit. Sorry, he'll have to go.

Jonathan

Jonathan wasted no further words and ran out of the room without saying as much as a goodbye. He had become completely absorbed by his own enthusiasm and jumped down the collapsed stairs.
"I hope it's a dual-piston model. Those are awe....AYUGH!!!!"

The man rolled over the floor, holding his leg.
"Oh god, I forgot I was upstairs! Ah, the pain! Stupid Newton and his gravity!" He whimpered.

Autumn, Terminal Charlie lounge

Unlike the other patrons in the lounge, Autumn opted to sit on the carpet instead of the relatively pristine couches and recliners. While these people were the "upper class" of Haven, not one was dressed particularly formal.

Gale was sitting with the other powers that be near the center of the tables. These "meetings" were one of the events that Autumn habitually strayed from his side. While she could grasp common social graces, Autumn couldn't bear to sit through something she couldn't contribute to.

"Hola nina." A husky voice said behind her. Marcus hopped down beside her, a cocky grin on his face.
Autumn frowned at him; Marcus had a talent for making her uneasy. "What are you on, Marcus?"

"I'm just naturally cheerful; maybe you should try having a good time."

Autumn's expression chilled, "Don't push me, Markus, if you know what's good for you."

Sam

When Sam saw the girl's question he snorted at her surprisingly dense question.

"I mean," he said. "You blast your fair share of muties and help keep our hides intact, then you'll get your fair share."

Lexie

She leaped to her feet as Jonathan rushed away and fell trough the stairs..

"Watch it!!" she screamed as he landed on the first floor.

Damn it, he must have hurt himself....crazy guy

She climbed down the alternate way, with the help of a thick rope, which she had tied to a iron girder on the second floor.

He was rolling on the floor, apparently he hurt his leg.

"Lay still, please, I can fix you but you have to lay still! Here, take this" she took out a bottle from her backpack. Good old scotch usually made people a bit calmer.

His tibia was broken, but that could be fixed, she just needed to find a bar or stick to secure it. Bandages she had, and more scotch for desinfection..

The man calmed down after he had downed a certain amount of whisky and Lexie gently put the broken bone in right position. She wrapped a bandage around his leg and put four wooden stcks to secure it.

"Ok Mr, there you go, now you need to rest for a while, I'll fix something to eat, wait here!"

As if he could go anywhere!
'

OOC: This ok with you Jackie? I can always edit you know! wink.gif

Posted by: jack cloudy May 2 2009, 09:12 PM

Well, I'm not sure about the calming down, sounds a bit out of character, but I can roll with it. smile.gif After all, he did just swallow a hefty amount of booze.

Jonathan.

He gratefully snatched the bottle out of Lexie's hands and gulped up the liquid till he had to cough. The alcohol numbed the pain, though now he was feeling rather dizzy.
"Woah...Thanks, milady. That was kind of neglectful of me. I should have remembered the fall." He mumbled.

After telling him not to move as well as promising him something to eat, Lexie left the hallway where he'd landed. Jonathan carefully shifted the injured leg and noticed that the improvised cast was secured quite well.
"Hmm, she's got talent, that lady. Did quite a good job back there. Heh, I wished she was there when I electrocuted myself on the old powerlines. If she had been, maybe I wasn't halfbald now." He chuckled to himself.
"Although, broken bones are not the same as high voltage. Ah well, I'll have to invent something to thank her later."

Karelia

Karelia noticed the girl next to her was a bit itchy with her gun, and worried that she might make trouble. When she finally wandered off towards the gate, Karelia kept an eye on her while the last inch of her cigarette burned away. After tossing the butt to the ground, she looked back just in time to see the girl crawl under the gate. Ignoring the old saying about cats, she decided to let her curiosity get the best of her and followed after.

Karelia squirmed under the gate, and found herself standing outside of the town. The girl had a bit of a head start, and Karelia didn't know quite where to look for her now, as she wasn't in sight.

Posted by: minque May 10 2009, 01:04 AM

Lexie

She headed for her secret "storage", a hole in the floor at the lowest level of the building. She had discovered it almost immediately when she arrived there some three weeks ago and carefully stashed her foodstuffs there, then carefully covered the cavity. The foodstuffs, merely consisting of battered tin cans containing different kinds of things, was the result of looting a food store.

She took a can with baked beans, carefully covered her trails and returned to Jonathan. She opened it with her knife and meant to give it to him, but he had fallen asleep.

To much whisky I presume

Lexie decided to wake him up, he needed some food...and water, so she shok his shoulder..

"Hey, wake up! You need to eat...and you need water, you're dehydrated!"

She gave him her water bottle and cleaned a worn spoon on her trousers before putting it in the can.

"It's just beans, but they're fairly ok" she smiled

Posted by: jack cloudy May 11 2009, 08:38 PM

Jonathan

Jonathan blinked a few times as he woke up.
"Wuh? Oh, I'm sorry. I must have fallen asleep." He mumbled more to himself than to Lexie. He then looked at the can of beans with a frown. It wasn't that he disliked beans or anything, but he felt that she was going too far for him and decided to say so.
"Milady, with all due respect, but you have already done more than enough for me. If anything, it should be my turn to help you. After all, so far I've only managed to cause trouble. So I'd like to ask you, is there anything I can do for you?"

Posted by: Dantrag May 14 2009, 07:45 AM

Karelia

Karelia found herself leaning against the outside of the gate, waiting. The girl had to come back, right? There was a small chance that she'd left for good, but as an ex-raider, Karelia knew firsthand that most people didn't survive very long on their own these days.

She didn't know why she was waiting because in all honesty, she really had no reason to be in this girl's business. Ignoring herself, she inhaled deeply on some jet pulled from her pocket.

Ten minutes, then I'll leave.

Karelia laughed at her own thought. The only time-telling device she'd ever seen was Sam's Pip-Boy, and she had no real concept of numerical time.

Days are all I need to count. If that.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard May 14 2009, 08:03 PM

Sam

"So, Linda," Sam said, taking a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it up. "Tell me a bit about yourself. Best you can, of course."

He suddenly paused, before saying; "Where are my manners. Want a cigarette?"

Posted by: minque May 15 2009, 01:08 AM

Lexie

She smiled at Jonathan, she appreciated his company more than she thought...she had been alone too long, that's for sure.

"What you can do for me is to eat and get strong enough to keep me company, I do need a friend , you know!"

Posted by: jack cloudy May 15 2009, 10:01 PM

Jonathan

Jonathan laughed.
"Well, I suppose I can't argue with that!" He said as he accepted the can of beans and began to eat. To his delight, he discovered that the beans, while perhaps not the best thing ever, were a lot more flavourable than most things he'd eaten.
"Although in all seriousness, I have to ask you if you have any long-term plans. You can't sit here forever, you know. Not unless you have a supply of food that does not come out of pre-war cans."

OOC: Yeah, I'm trying to set things up for them to go to Haven. wink.gif

Posted by: minque May 15 2009, 11:41 PM

Lexie

"Ehh in fact I thought I had a plan, I was sent out from our vault to scan the radioactive poisoning, somewhere, but I lost the map and ...was lost myself, then I found this ruin, with a nice supply...of beans! Oh heck, I think I was attacked sometime during all this, but unfortunately I suffer from memory loss...to some extent...." she rambled

"Anyway, I can't say I have a plan anymore, so hmm if you like to have a companion on your mission, you just got one" Lexie continued somewhat embarrassed

OOC: Excellent, lead us to the Haven! tongue.gif

Posted by: jack cloudy May 16 2009, 07:52 PM

Jonathan

Jonathan stroked his chin.
"A vault? I...see. Well then, I was travelling to Haven to look for work and interesting machinery. If the locals have been accurate in their stories, it's not too far from here in an old stadium. Unfortunately, my mode of transportation broke down, hence my inquiries into lawnmowers." He said as he finished his meal.

"That said, I think I'm going to fashion myself a walking stick and check out that lawnmower to see if it contains the parts I need." He continued, laughing to himself.
"And luck permitting, I won't be jumping off stairs any time soon!"

Posted by: Silver May 17 2009, 05:53 AM

Linda

Shaking her head at the offer of a cigarette, she took another quick puff of Jet, letting the little canister hang in front of her chest instead of tucking it away this time. Reaching for the paper, she started to scribble out a new message.

I'm here. I'm alive. I scout, I steal, and I don't get seen. What other kind of history do you need?

A wry smile tugged at the corner of her lips, before it fell back to a more blank look after a moment, though her eyes sparkled merrily.

Posted by: seerauna May 27 2009, 02:31 AM

Hannah
It was more than an hour before Hannah decided to head back to Haven. Her expedition of sorts left her with Raider blood on the ground and a few more caps than before. All in all, a pretty successful Raider hunt.

It took her another fifteen minutes to make it to Haven's Southern gate. Her curiosity rose when she saw one of the newcomers leaning against the outside of the gate. Why was she there? Had she been waiting for her to come back?

Rifle slung over her shoulder, she walked forward at a slightly slower pace wondering what the hell was going on here.

OOC: Would Karelia wait that long? I can always edit if she wouldn't

Posted by: Colonel Mustard May 27 2009, 08:37 AM

Sam

Sam shrugged at her reply. He guessed that she wouldn't be willing to give too much up to a stranger just yet.

"Fair enough," he said. He leant back in his chair, wondering where Karelia had gotten to.

Posted by: Dantrag May 27 2009, 07:45 PM

OOC: yeah, it's cool

Karelia

Karelia was sitting now, with her back on the rusted gate. She was still somewhat in her right mind, though she lost count of how many cigarettes and jet she'd breathed in while waiting.

After what seemed like an eternity of boredom, Karelia spotted the girl. As she approached, Karelia figured that she'd been busy, judging by the blood on her shoes.

"Good hunting?"

Posted by: minque May 27 2009, 10:33 PM

Lexie

"I'll help you, what exactly are we looking for? Hmm I'm not so sure you should be walking about with that leg of yours...but I might have something for you to ease the pain"

She smiled and somehow showed up with another bottle...

OOC: Jackie, feel free to speed things up so they will get on their way to Haven! wink.gif

Posted by: seerauna May 28 2009, 05:07 AM

Hannah

Hannah heard the stranger's question and grinned. She was back mostly whole wasn't she?

"As well as can be expected out there," she said, jerking him thumb back over her shoulder. "What's your name? I'm Hannah." she asked impulsively. Who knew whether she would answer or not?

Posted by: Dantrag May 28 2009, 05:35 AM

Karelia

"Karelia," she replied, placing her cigarette in her mouth and standing up to extend a hand. Suddenly realizing that she had nothing in particular to say, the next few moments were awkwardly silent. She felt especially stupid for waiting out here for so long.

Lay off the jet, Karelia.

"So...you smoke?" she asked, despite the girl's age.

Posted by: seerauna May 28 2009, 05:51 AM

Hannah

There was an awkward moment of silence, then Karelia offered Hannah a cigarette. She shook her head at her offer for a offer. "So...you smoke?" Odd question, but okay.

"Nope, 'parently you do though. Quick question. Why'd you wait for me? I've been out there for awhile, and most would've gone back by now."

Seriously, why? I'm surprised she even noticed me leave. Most don't.

Posted by: Dantrag May 28 2009, 06:57 AM

Karelia

"Saw you eyein' your gun earlier and thought you might make trouble," she admitted, "Got curious when I saw your little escape route."

Posted by: Olen May 28 2009, 10:04 AM

Aidan

"Well that sounds fine," said Aidan, "How about we get another drink to celebrate while Sam tells us what he has in mind?"

He waved over a barmaid who brought another bottle of whisky. He poured himself a large glass and offered the bottle to Linda.

Posted by: jack cloudy May 28 2009, 09:22 PM

OOC: Ok, I'll pull off a quick timeskip. Tell me if you don't agree anywhere. smile.gif

Jonathan

"For a walking stick, anything will do. There is a piece of the stairs' handrail right over there. That will work. As for the lawnmower, the only thing I need is the engine, but I'd rather take it apart myself. Don't want to mess up the transmission by accident." Jonathan muttered as he eyed the bottle.
"Err...I think I've had my daily dose of alcohol for the day. Sorry."

About an hour later, they were standing at the crossroads where Jonathan left his machine, together with the lawnmower that had been found in a small shack in the backyard.

"So, uh...what's this?" Lexie asked as she looked at the awkward contraption with a frown. Jonathan pushed up his sleeves and got to work on separating the lawnmower's engine from the frame.
"This, milady, is my loyal companion. The invincible super robot of absolute awesomeness, FRIGERIZER Z!!!!" He answered with a mad cackle.

"Ahem, this shouldn't take too long. I've done these kind of repairs before. We should be underway in a moment. Oh, while I'm at it. Maybe I should bolt on an extra seat. And a cup-holder, maybe a weird spinny bit. Oh, how about a microwave oven?" He rambled on, already eyeing the streets.
"Oh no, just fix the engine so we can go. You know I can't let you run around, digging through junk with that leg of yours!" Lexie objected.
"Spoilsport."

True to his word, they were underway soon enough and about to reach Haven after just a short trip. Unfortunately, it had taken a bit of effort and time on Lexie's part to fully dissuade Jonathan from ripping apart a carwreck in search of an extra seat, so the sun was long down by the time they reached the gates.

OOC: I figured she'd rather not spend hours sitting out there in the open while a mad professor is building a limousine/tank/mobile health hazard A-team style.

Posted by: seerauna May 29 2009, 03:06 AM

Hannah

She shrugged at Karelia's mention of her slipping under the gate. "I've used it as that more than once. Sometimes you need to get away from it all, ya know?"

Karelia nodded in answer then said, "Kind of hard to do that when you live out on the Wastelands though. It's all a never-ending battle."

Hannah had a feeling her natural curiosity was about to overwhelm her and shut her mouth on what she was about to say.

Karelia

"Battles ain't so bad, though. More chance of dyin' on your feet," she said, though she got the feeling the girl was holding some words back.

"So you've got a decent eye to see that hole, an' it looks like you can at least handle yourself," she kept on, "But how do you shoot?"

Posted by: seerauna May 30 2009, 04:19 PM

Hannah

"Fairly well, but it's not like I'm the best shot out there. Why?" she asked Karelia. She could ask some weird questions, but this one actually made some sort of sense. Rare when you lived out here. Normally nothing made the least bit of sense, at least to Hannah's mind.

Karelia nodded slowly, looking like she was chewing something over in her mind.

Posted by: Dantrag May 30 2009, 10:51 PM

Karelia

"Think you could hit tha--" Karelia stopped suddenly, for coming over the horizon was a man, a woman, and a refrigerator. Karelia pointed over Hannah's shoulder to get her to turn around and look at the thing.

"Do you see that?"

Posted by: minque May 31 2009, 09:53 PM

OOC: FYI Lexie looks like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v613/minque/chyler-leigh-aka-lexie-grey.jpg

Lexie

As they approached the Haven Lexie spotted two persons outside...

"Jon, you see those over there? Should we be careful, or just say hi to them, see I've not been amongst people for quite some time, I feel a bit scared"

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 1 2009, 09:06 AM

Johnathan

Johnathan shrugged.
"Well, they live here, don't they? Haven is a big hub for travellers, so they're used to strangers. I'd say we just wave and say hello." He answered while already raising a hand.
"Besides, if things go ugly, we've got a quarter ton worth of machinery beneath our feet and I am not afraid to use it."

OOC: Don't ask me how he would use Frigerizer Z. He's just talking without thinking. smile.gif

Posted by: seerauna Jun 1 2009, 12:04 PM

Hannah

The incredulous tone of Karelia's voice was what made Hannah turn around. When she saw the two people on top of the refrigerator she took a step backwards in surprise. "Umm yeah, but what the hell is it? Never seen anything like it before."

Karelia shook her head and replied, "Neither have I." Hannah's mind was confused but still wondered whether they should wait for the travelers or get Gale.

Posted by: Dantrag Jun 1 2009, 05:42 PM

Karelia

Karelia saw that the man on the contraption was waving, so she waved back. She quickly took the scope from her rifle to get a better look at the strangers and their white machine. With her new perspective, she realized that the refrigerator had wheels, mechanical arms, a seemingly useless fan, and an engine. Karelia couldn't decide if it was the stupidest or most genius thing she'd ever seen.

"I have to see this up close," she said to Hannah.

Karelia hung around the gate until the two arrived, remounting her scope in the meantime.

Stupidest. she decided silently when she finally did see the refrigerator-bot.

"Hello, and welcome to Haven, Ma'am, Sir," she greeted, "That's an, erm, strange little machine you got there. What is it?"

Posted by: seerauna Jun 1 2009, 06:00 PM

Hannah

Waiting until Karelia greeted the two, Hannah leaned up and whispered in her ear, "I'm gonna get Gale, he thinks it's his job to greet all the newcomers. He'll kill me if I don't get him now."

Without waiting for a reply, she slipped back under the gate and headed off to find Gale. And most likely have Autumn follow him of course, she thought.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 2 2009, 07:39 PM

Jonathan

One of the two ran off, while the other waited to greet them with cold eyes.
"Ah well, if she'd watched us with scope attached to that gun, then she would have been hostile. Now, no problem." He thought with a shrug.

"Ah, milady. Good day to you. My lovely companion here is Lexie and I would be Jonathan Guntherson, inventor extraordinaire by trade." He answered with a quick bow to the head. Then, acting on a sudden impulse, he hit a button on the awkward control board in front of him. With a loud woosh, the fan activated, wipping his coat around dramatically in a strong breeze. Jonathan stood up, balancing precariously on top of the machine with his new stick.
"As for this, it's none other than the most awesome, invincible, undefeated, incredible super robot FRIGERIZER Z!!!! With a 25 horsepower engine and half a thousand kilometres under its weels! Also, a good place to keep your perishable consumables."

Sam

Sam was about to order another drink when he heard the strangest noise in his life, a scraping, throbbing growl, almost like a deathclaw torturing somebody by scraping its claws on a rock. For a moment he thought it was the gates opening, before he remembered that when they had opened for him they had sounded nothing like this.

Like many of the bar's patrons, he turned around to see if the noise was emanating from somewhere within the bar, only to find it wasn't.

"What the hell is that?"

Posted by: minque Jun 2 2009, 10:19 PM

Lexie

She fell off the Frigerizer when Jonathan activated the fan, she didn't see that coming, so she waved to the two girls from her position flat on the ground

Gah this is embarrassing, but what the hell...

"Hi, I...I'm Lexie Grey" She blushed and got on her feet, rubbing dust from her jeans "What is this place really?" she asked

Posted by: Dantrag Jun 3 2009, 02:14 AM

Karelia

Karelia was smiling, but really only because she was holding back a laugh. She did well to keep it in; between Jonathan's speech and mannerisms, Lexie's accident, and the portable refrigerator, she had a lot to laugh at.

"Good to meet you both, I'm Karelia," she said, "And this is Haven, but I don't know much more than that. Ain't been here more than a couple hours, myself."

"And I don't know if ya'll are tryin' to avoid lawmen and such, and it ain't my business," she kept on, "But the girl just went to go fetch one, so he should be here any moment."

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 4 2009, 09:40 AM

Jonathan

"Aha! Haven! I knew it!" Jonathan exclaimed.
"So you're a traveller as well? Interesting. I guess we'll just wait for this lawman. Never had problems with them before....I think."

Posted by: minque Jun 4 2009, 09:12 PM

Lexie

"Ah...ok but, nah nevermind....I don't exactly know what a lawman is, forgive me for my ignorance, but I've been sort of living very secluded"

Lexie felt embarrassed...this girl seemed so secure and self-confident, which she herself never had been

Posted by: seerauna Jun 5 2009, 07:11 AM

Hannah

Haven was a big place and Hannah had no idea where to look for Gale. Where had they been walking towards before? She racked her brain for the answer for a minute before remembering they had gone towards the Terminal Charlie lounge. They might not let her in if she tried, but all she had to do was say there was newcomers outside.

Mind set, she jogged towards the Lounge so she could go back out to Karelia and the other two.

Linda

She simply tilted her head for a moment with the howling noise, and rubbed her little ears between her fingers furiously after it stopped. She shrugged at Sam, sliding out past Aiden and moving to the door, opening it a hair. Another nonchalant shrug, and she stepped out into the night, disappearing with the breeze under the half-cresent moon.

A note was left on the table, hastily scrawled, Stimpack, food, and an even cut? Deal.

Karelia

"A lawman is the guy that decides if you look too dangerous to let inside. If you don't, he opens that gate and then makes sure you behave once you're in there. He shouldn't take too long. We saw him within a few seconds."

Karelia suddenly realized that she might be in trouble. Here she was, standing outside, when she was supposed to be inside. She hoped crawling under gates wasn't any sort of offense in this town.

"But yes," she said, remembering Jonathan's question, "I am a traveller. Came all the way from the Capital Wasteland."

Johnathan

"The Capital Wasteland? Oh, I've always wanted to go there once and see what neat stuff I might find." Johnathan quipped.
"Oh, and while we're on the subject of neat stuff, anyone want a can of cooled beer? I've still got a six-pack or two in the fridge. I mean, if we're waiting, we might as well make ourselves comfortable."

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Jun 14 2009, 10:27 PM

Sam

"What the hell is that, I wonder?" Sam said after Linda had left, downing the dregs of his scotch. "Aiden, you wanna take a look?"

Autumn

She rose, her green eyes drilling him. "Go find yourself a sewer rat, Marcus," Autumn spat as she stormed out of the lounge. Once she got outside, her temper chilled back down. Autumn relaxed; she hated people toying with her emotions. So long as she appeared in control no one else would bother her about it.

That dog won't push me over, I'm better than that. Forcing Marcus out of her mind, Autumn started walking. The destination didn't matter as long as it looked as though she was moving with a purpose.

Karelia

The crazy contraption in front of her was suddenly not so stupid. Nothing that kept your beer cold while traveling could possibly be stupid.

"That would be great," she said, surprised at the sudden offering. People that shared were becoming fewer and fewer, as it was usually safer to keep to oneself these days.

"Thanks," she said when Jonathan produced the cans from the sideways refrigerator. She didn't feel right about taking something for nothing, though, and added as an afterthought, "Either of you want a smoke?"

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 22 2009, 04:09 PM

Jonathan

"Oh, that would be nice. Yes, please." Jonathan answered to the offer of a cigarette. Part of him knew that he really shouldn't get this comfortable while waiting. It might leave a bad impression with this lawman that was coming. The other, and far more persuasive, part of him decided that he simply didn't care.

"Anyway, here's the beer. Catch." He added a second later and tossed a pair of cans to his companions. He then leaned against Frigerizer Z and smiled contently.
"Now this is what life should be all about. A beer, some smoke, not a worry in the world to be seen. Just this...the only thing that could make things even better would be if an alien saucer had crashlanded on that hill over there. Man, I'd love to get my hands on one of those."

That dog won't push me over, I'm better than that. Forcing Marcus out of her mind, Autumn started walking. The destination didn't matter as long as it looked as though she was moving with a purpose.

Hannah

When Autumn came into view, Hannah slid to a stop out of her view then started back up at a slower pace. "Autumn, where's Gale? There's a couple travelers outside and he might wanna meet them." She said once she came within earshot.

Autumn looked up at her in surprise, obviously she hadn't seen or heard her coming. "I didn't leave them alone, Karelia's with them." Hannah said quickly, seeing the other girl's disapproving glance.

Posted by: Dantrag Jun 24 2009, 05:36 AM

Karelia

Karelia didn't know what exactly a saucer was, but didn't sweat it. She learned quickly in the Capital Wasteland that people in different communities had their own dialects and slang.

"I'm with you on the beer an' smoke, and maybe a saucer, but right now I wish I hadn't sold my harmonica. 'Specially since I spent the caps on scotch I didn't drink,"

She realized that she was rambling; typical of her when jet coursed through her body. She took a sip of beer to fill the short silence. Karelia noticed that the girl--Lexie, was it?-- was shy and hadn't said much.

"So what about you, girl?" she asked her, deciding not to risk saying the wrong name, "If you could have one other thing right now..."

Posted by: minque Jun 24 2009, 11:25 PM

Lexie

Lexie smiled at Karelia, she had the experience that if you smile to someone unknown, he might hesitate to kill you for just the second you need to try to escape..

"Well a cigarrette would be great, if you can spare one....oh and I have a contribution as well!" She took out a bottle of whisky from her pack..

"I ...I kinda like whisky..." she mumbled.."For medical reasons of course..but..ah nevermind!"

Lexie lit the cigarrette Karelia handed her and inhaled the smoke, looking very content

"Hmm I probably didn't introduce myself very well..I'm Lexie Grey, but don't ask me where I'm from, because I don't know..ehh don't remember, all I know is that I once lived in a vault....somewhere!"

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 1 2009, 08:15 AM

Karelia

Karelia found that while she felt a bit sorry for Lexie and her apparent amnesia, she was also jealous. Jet provided a temporary relief from her constant struggles, but nothing as permanent or therapeutic as pure forgetfulness. Karelia found her mind wandering, thinking about how different she might be if her past had all been forgotten.

Too bad it's all still there.

She tossed her cigarette butt to the ground and stamped it out with her foot.

"I can't imagine what's takin' so long," she began, "I swear this guy was just waiting for us when we first came in, now I guess nobody can find him."

She wondered if she should crawl back under the gate before Gale did come.

Posted by: Lord Revan Jul 4 2009, 06:52 PM

Autumn

She appraised the young woman who'd stopped her. Hannah, that was her name. "I'll-" Autumn barely finished the syllable; she turned to see her father approaching through the alley. "He's here." She said instead to Hannah.
Gale strode toward them, his shotgun slung over his shoulder, carrying Autumn's bolt-action rifle in his left hand.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 4 2009, 08:54 PM

Karelia

She was confused for a very short moment when she heard a high-pitched 'ping' from the gate behind her. She suddenly understood when she heard the report of a rifle in the distance. Someone had fired at them and missed.

"Get down!" she said to Lexie and Jonathan. She crouched behind the refrigerator machine and loaded a magazine into her rifle.

"You both have guns, right?" It seemed like a dumb question as soon as she asked. Who traveled the wastes without a weapon?

Posted by: minque Jul 4 2009, 09:11 PM

Lexie

Lexie jumped when she heard the ping..and did not hesitate when Karelia shouted at her to get down, she immediately hid herself behind the refrigerator

A gun? Oh jeez, I forgot...

"N..no...I don't have a gun" she said "anymore" she continued whispring

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 4 2009, 09:31 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

"Get down!" Karelia shouted all of a sudden as she and Lexie dove behind Frigerizer Z. Jonathan took one last sip of his beer with a raised eyebrow.
"Down? Why do y..." His question was cut off by a fountain of dust erupting at his feet.
"Yikes!" He muttered as he joined the two women.

"You both have guns, right?" Karelia said, already loading her own. It hadn't been a question, more like a statement. Lexie reluctantly admit that she did not, while Jonthan patted a bulge under his tattered labcoat with a grin.
"Why, I do have one. A fine weapon, one as lethal as the finger pulling the trigger." He boasted, pulling out the tiny .38 pistol as a pair of rounds impacted the bulk of the mobile refrigerator. In an instant, Jonathan's grin was gone, replaced by a scowl of pure rage.

"MY BABY!! YOU DARE TO HURT MY BABY?!!!" He roared, leaping out of cover and pointing his pistol in the general direction of the wastelands. He hadn't actually figured out yet where exactly the shots were coming from or who was shooting but at the moment, he didn't care.
"No one hurts FRIGERIZER Z and gets away with it! NO ONE!" He yelled and pulled the trigger. The answer was the sound of a hammer tapping an empty chamber, and a bullet taking off the man's hat.

Jonathan's anger had vanished as quickly as it had appeared.
"Oh, well that could have gone better. So umm...hi, mind if I join you two again?" He mumbled as he got back behind cover. He looked at his hat lying on the ground and sighed.
"So much for a perfect day."

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 4 2009, 09:55 PM

Karelia

And I thought I was crazy. she thought to herself, wondering how she got into this situation. Her only help wasn't really much help at all. A girl with no weapon, and a crazy man with a useless one. She did genuinely like them both, though, despite their shortcomings. She just hoped they'd all live to laugh about it in a few minutes.

She rested her rifle on top of the machine and took a quick look at their opponents. Raiders. Nasty, disgusting, vile, raiders. She fired a shot and one fell to the ground, but the return fire forced her to get completely behind cover again.

Karelia pulled a pistol from her belt. She held the barrel, extending the handle to Lexie, who crouched beside her.

"If they get close," she explained. They were probably going to. There was no way that she could pick all of them off before they did.

Posted by: minque Jul 4 2009, 10:03 PM

Lexie

She held her breath, the last second's events stunned her. She knew perfectly well she was a drawback to the others, being without a weapon...and that very nice girl Karelia, whe appeared to be so perfectly self confident...and she knew exactly what to do..

And my gun's back in the vault, because I was stupid enough to leave it behind..or??? Did I really...gah...

When Karelia handed her the gun she took it without hesitation...she understood the girl, understood what she wanted her to do...

Question was....was she able to?

Linda

The stuttering buzz of an energy weapon led an undertone to the high crack-crack of the Raider's rifles, as a glittering ruby cresent carved through the night, lighting the air with crimson flashes as she fired again and again, ranging shots as she depressed the trigger with both fingers.

Using this blaze of burning light as a cover, she rolled behind a fallen tree, letting the returned shots thunk into the thick wood, or scatter into the air above her head. Eyes alight with cold amusement, she waved at the others hiding behind the strange boxy thing.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 5 2009, 05:48 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan picked up a rock and weighed it in his hand, then dropped it again.
"Bloody hell, no way I can throw that far." He cursed under his breath and then gasped as he heard a sound somewhere between the crackle of lightning and the buzz of a radio.
"Oh my, what's next?" He asked himself as he peered out at the raiders through the underside of Frigerizer.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 5 2009, 05:57 PM

Karelia

At first, she was taken by surprise by the sudden appearance of lasers cutting through the air. Upon finding its source, though, she heaved a great sigh of relief.

"It's a friend," she assured Jonathan.

She felt a bit sorry for the man's contraption, as it was getting pummeled with bullets. Better it than them, but there was so much fire being concentrated on them, she couldn't even get a chance to fire another shot.

Another joined the fight, this time it was the single guard atop the gate. It was a young man, and not an excellent shot, but she appreciated the effort. Maybe it could buy her a few seconds to finally get a bullet flying. It did, and the guard even took down a raider of his own.

She poked her head up, scoped in and fired. Another raider's head exploded, and she laughed as she ducked back down behind the fridge machine. Her laughing stopped though, when the guard fell to the ground outside the gate.

Posted by: minque Jul 5 2009, 10:22 PM

Lexie

"Oh my God stop it..stop it STOP IT!" Lexie screamed as she saw the guard's head explode

She grabbed Jonathan's arm and cried out in agony , totally terrified and hysterical

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 5 2009, 11:38 PM

Karelia

The guard had fallen nearby, and Karelia was stretching to reach his gun. It was an assault rifle, and she figured someone could use it. Probably not Lexie, judging by her reactions. She seriously considered taking her pistol back.

"Not the time," she said, in a poor attempt to calm Lexie. Karelia was never good at those types of things.

Her task was difficult, as she was trying to stay behind the protection of Jonathan's vehicle while still getting to the rifle. She got a hold on the guard's boot and dragged his body closer. She could reach the gun, but couldn't pull it free from the death grip it was caught in.

"Persistent bugger," she commented to herself.

After a few yanks, it finally came free and she tossed the thing to Jonathan. There probably weren't too many cartridges left in it, but some was better than none.

"Sorry," she said with a shrug to Lexie. She knew the girl probably didn't want the body closer to them, but there really weren't many options right now. She waited for Linda to fire again and give her another free second.

Posted by: Silver Jul 6 2009, 01:49 AM

Linda

Crawling through the dusty grit behind the fallen tree, with patches of bark flying, following each burning tracer that cut the air, fortunately thier ill-maintained weapons in combinations with a lack of real skill stopped any from actually hitting her.

Reaching the end, the tangled mass of burned roots, perfect for her to slide the blocky muzzle of her rifle through and fire blindly, depressing the trigger and only tilting it in the general direction of the incoming shots, until the battery popped from it's holder with a metallic hiss.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 6 2009, 05:51 AM

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan could do nothing but look on helplessly. He had no experience with situations like these and as such had no idea how he could comfort Lexie.
"Relax, it's all going to be fine. Now please point that pistol elsewhere, milady. I believe that it's lacking a safety feature." He spoke, while watching Karelia wrestle with the guard's rifle from the corner of his eyes.

When she finally got it free and tossed it over to him, he clumsily caught it with his free hand.
"Now milady, there is nothing left to worry about. FRIGERIZER Z is as durable as a concrete wall and there is no way they're going to get through with what they have, not at this distance. We're perfectly safe here. So umm....mind to let go for a moment so I can try out this gun?"

He turned his attention away from Lexie to inspect the rifle for a moment. It was a crude weapon, he concluded, and quite in need of some repairs, lots of cleaning and a few upgrades.
"With the right tools, I bet I could turn it into a fully automatic grenade launcher with water-balloon tracer rounds." He mumbled. Still, it would work for now. He popped open the firing chamber.
"I've got three rounds, here. How much do you have, milady Karelia?"

Hannah

Hannah winced when she heard the ping of gun bullets coming from the gate. When the thought registered in her head that Karelia and the other two people were outside her eyes widened slightly and she looked at Autumn and Gale in alarm. "They need help, I think some super mutants or Raiders are outside the gate."

"They?" Gale asked curiously, raising an eyebrow.

"Karelia and the two travelers at the gate. C'mon!" Hannah knew it probably wasn't the best idea for her to order Gale around, but she cared about the people outside's survival. She saw Autumn open her mouth to say something, but then shut it and followed the other girl as she turned to walk away, grabbing her rifle. Hannah hoped she wasnt too late to save her newly found friend.

Posted by: Lord Revan Jul 6 2009, 06:13 PM

Gale

He tossed Autumn her rifle and unslung his 12 gauge. Haven's citizen's dispersed, not everyone was a warrior, many had to look to their family's own protection. Gale and Autumn exchanged a nod, the gate and anyone under attack from the raiders was their priority. Both followed close behind Hannah; when they reached the gate, Gale used the winch to raise the gate high enough for them to simply duck under.

"Autumn, use the guard tower to cover us." He told his daughter. She nodded and dashed up the ramp to the tower. Turning to Hannah, Gale said. "You might need to point out the travelers from the Raiders. Lead the way." The captain gestured under the gate.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 6 2009, 07:08 PM

Karelia

"Eight," she answered. There were three left in her current magazine, and five in another.

"But it doesn't help that I can barely get a shot off," she complained. Jonathan probably didn't hear it, as another wave of bullets battered their makeshift barrier, drowning out the sound of her voice.

I take back everything bad I ever thought about this crazy thing. FRIGERIZER Z, as Jonathan called it, was doing a fine job of keeping their bodies bullet free.

Posted by: minque Jul 6 2009, 08:57 PM

Lexie

Focus, Lexie, just focus, you'll be ok...Just remember how you got away...that day, do what you have to do, just do it!

She took a deep breath, let go of Jonathan's arm, sat completely motionless for a few seconds...Then all of a sudden she was calm and focused, she grabbed the gun as if she had done nothing else in her life and aimed thoroughly...

The FRIGERIZER really served as a good shelter, but Lexie did not really grasp that, she had kinda stepped out of her mind like being in trance..

She fired the gun and in one round she hit two or three of the attackers...then reload..

Lexie's eyes were totally empty....as if she wasn't present at all

Posted by: seerauna Jul 6 2009, 10:57 PM

Hannah

"They're behind the weird refridgerator thing. Don't ask I have no idea, I left before I learned what it was all about." She told Gale before getting on her stomach and inching forward, cautious of any incoming bullets. Hannah heard Karelia tell someone that it was almost impossible to get a shot off, then more bullets being shot off, probably from a pistol.

"Need some help?" She asked Karelia, trying to get a good shot at the approaching Raiders. Finally after a few moments of twisting around she managed to shoot down one of the Raiders.

"Yeah, you ever get that lawman guy?" Karelia said.

"Definitely," Hannah told her and whispered back at Gale, "A little help would be a nice addition, don't you think?"

Posted by: Lord Revan Jul 7 2009, 12:34 AM

Gale

He dove down behind a large flagstone. A pair of raiders turned to keep the newcomer suppressed. Propping his shotgun against his piece of cover, Gale pulled out a smoke grenade from one of his packs. Gale paused to check the direction the wind was blowing.

A windsock atop Haven's wall showed the wind direction was away, blowing towards the raiders. Suppress this! Gale tore the pin from the grenade and lobbed it between them and the attacking raiders. The guard captain grabbed his shotgun and waited....

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan winced as more bullets hammered his machine and gripped the rifle a bit tighter. When Lexie let go of him, he did not hesitate, nor did he wait to see what she would do. He simply dropped flat on the ground and took aim.
"At their current distance, and taking into account the specifications of both bullet and rifle, I should be able to fire at their location from beneath FRIGERIZER Z's undercarriage. Though it will be close." He explained, though he wondered if he could even be heard over the cacaphony of metal striking metal.

"Man, I'm glad they built those pre-war refrigerators to last." He thought as he closed one eye, took aim and fired his first shot, grunting as the butt of the rifle slammed painfully into his shoulder. The bullet hit a tree a good six metres from the raiders, snapping off a branch before ricocheting into the ground.
"Ok...a tad more to the left and..." His monologue was cut off as some of the raiders began to drop and others turned their attention elsewhere.
"Bloody good shot, lady Karelia. We might just send them running if we keep it up." He cheered. But then he realised that the effects he'd observed were nothing like her rifle would cause.
"Wait a second." He muttered, just as something on a ballistic arc soared into the raider's position.

"Did you just do that, lady Lexie? Geez, now I'm the one who's getting scared." He continued, shaking his head while the grenade went off.

Posted by: minque Jul 7 2009, 09:59 PM

Lexie

She fired once more and another raider met his ancestors....Her face was numb, her eyes empty, she didn,t hear Jonathan's words. Lexie was trapped in her own mind.... mechanically firing and reloading her weapon

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 8 2009, 04:43 AM

Karelia

Lexie went from one extreme to another in a matter of seconds. Both got people killed. Lexie was making a target of herself, firing repeatedly while completely exposed. The smoke grenade offered a brief reprieve from most raider fire, though there were still bullets flying. Karelia waited until Lexie went to reload before tackling her to the ground and wrestling the gun away.

"Nice shots," she said to Lexie with a wink, "Try takin' 'em from back here next time."

She saw blood on the ground, and didn't know if it was her own or Lexie's. Either way, it meant they got out of the open at just the right time. She began checking herself for bullet holes; it wasn't uncommon for people to take bullets while hopped up on jet and not realize there was a problem for hours. Karelia didn't want it happening to her again.

"You okay?" she asked, motioning towards the blood.

OOC: minque: How's that work for a save? And I remembered you saying in the planning thread about something happening to Lexie, so I left that option open. if you want her to be hurt, the blood's hers. if not, we can say it was karelia's.

Posted by: minque Jul 8 2009, 04:57 AM

OOC: Works fine with me, Lexie's the one that got hurt!

Lexie

She didn't wake up from her trance-like state when Karelia wrestled her down, she just let it happen, as usual when she was like this. She just let it happen and made no resistance.

The fact that she was hit by a bullet in her left side and blood was soaking her t shirt and dripping to the ground didn't seem to bother her.

She just looked at Karelia with that empty gaze...before she passed out

OOC: So now she's out for a while, if that's ok with the rest of you

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 8 2009, 09:33 AM

Karelia

"Damn!" she yelled, "It's her. Is there a doctor?"

Now that help was here, and that smoke grenade blocked their view, she could afford to stop shooting. They could take it from here. She was no doctor herself, but she knew enough to put pressure on the wound. Blood was everywhere, and Lexie looked at her for a short moment before blacking out.

"I don't know what to do,"

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 8 2009, 10:15 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan tried to look up, and cursed loudly as he smashed his head against the undercarriage.
"Ouch!" He cried and crawled out from underneath Frigerizer.

The man dropped to his knees next to Karelia and looked at the wound with worry.
"The only doctor I know off happens to be the one who got shot." He complained loudly while shaking his head.
"Ok, I guess I can figure out the basics. Umm...desinfect the wound with alcohol...Now where did I drop that beer can?" The situation didn't look good.

Autumn, guard tower

Unlike the traveler's outside the gate, Autumn refued to let her guard down. She braced her rifle's sling against her left elbow to steady her aim. *Come on you dogs.*

A figure emerged from the blue smokescreen, pausing to orient herself. Autumn's Mosin cracked, the woman went down. She didn't pause to check if the raider was dead or wounded; two more rushed out of the fog.

Posted by: seerauna Jul 9 2009, 03:27 AM

Hannah

Ignoring the scene in front of her, she kept on firing at the oncoming Raiders running out of the fog. Hannah could provide cover for the travelers and they could take of Lexie. At least, I hope they can, she thought grimly.

Hannah went to reload and more Raiders went down from Autumn's rifle and Gale's shotgun.

Aidan

Aidan had followed Sam out of the bar taking the remains of the whiskey in one hand. Gunfire sounded from outside the gates, he ran towards them not really caring if Sam followed. Karelia had been gone a while, he wandered how much she had to do with it. Not that it bothered him.

The gate was raised just enough to duck under. They're arrogant enough then,[i] he thought, [i]I like it. He ducked under then dived to the side as more shots erupted. He looked around and realised the shots weren't aimed at him, just the drink making him a little jumpy. He took another swig to calm his nerves. At least no one had seen. Thick smoke blossomed from a grenade in front of him. The mixture looked like it could do with a bit more soda to him. He pushed the thought aside. There was some device the side with people crouching behind it. One might have been Karelia. She could look after herself though.

He felt one of the three grenades he had on him. The smoke was far to thick though, he needed a clearer idea of where to throw. He ran round the side of it keeping low in cover. The attackers were mainly using rifles, almost certainly raider scum. He paused behind a large rock, it would be ideal once the smoke had cleared a little. He took another sip of whiskey before putting down the bottle and pulling out the pin. There was another burst of fire, much nearer. Too close in fact, they could only be just inside the smoke. He judged the distance, this was going to require a little cooking off. He let the lever up just before he threw.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Jul 11 2009, 11:19 AM

OOC: Sorry I wasn't here earlier. Various commitment kept me from saving the day getting online.

Sam

Sam gave a start as he heard a gunshot, then another, before Aidan shoved past him and scrambled under the gate. Sam followed, standing up and yelling in surprise as a bullet grazed his ear.

Cursing furiously and clutching his now bleeding ear, Sam dropped to his knees and scrambled forwards, taking cover behind what appeared to be a fridge on wheels. Sam didn't bother wondering about what the hell it was and instead tried to get his head down and not be shot.

Thick white smoke was rolling across the battlefield, and Sam couldn't see where the targets were. Obviously they were far away, rendering his trusty combat shotgun useless. Instead he drew his magnum and peeked over the top to see if he could get a shot off. Hopefully the smoke would thin out soon.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 11 2009, 09:22 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

"Ah, right. You're doing a good job of keeping that wound pressed close, milady. That should give us a few more moments. Hold on, I'll get the desinfect..."
Just as he reached for the beer can, a large boot stepped on it, crushing the fragile tin and spilling the remaining drops.
"Hey, what the?!" Jonathan yelled in surprise, pulling back his hand in a hurry. For a second he thought that one of the raiders had taken the opportunity to get around their cover and kill them from up close but when he looked up, he saw a blonde man aiming over the top of Frigerizer with a large gun.

"Sir! If you're not too busy and have medical experience, could you please help us?" Jonathan called out to the newcomer. A quick glance around revealed to him that while he'd been focussed on Lexie's injury, a whole group of people had come to their aid. The firefight was in its final stage and none of the raiders were in the position to worry about those behind Frigerizer Z anymore.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 12 2009, 07:45 AM

Karelia

Karelia saw Sam and Aidan join in the fight, but they'd really just walked into a standoff since the smoke was between them and the raiders, making shots difficult.

"The whiskey," she said to Jonathan, seeing the problem that had formed when Sam stepped on the beer can. Not that she had been about to let him pour beer on the wound. The bottle Lexie was sipping earlier was laying on its side next to the FRIGERIZER's tire, forgotten after the fighting started.

She was reminded of Aidan's presence when a grenade exploded. With a peek over the top of the FRIGERIZER, she could see through the thinning smoke that the raiders were nearly all dead. One of them she thought she could hit, were her hands not full holding back blood flow.

Posted by: Olen Jul 12 2009, 09:43 AM

Aidan

A blast of grit hit him as the grenade detonated. Aidan stood again and looked though the thinned smoke. The blast had killed a couple of raiders and there weren't enough to bother with another grenade. One was standing looking shellshocked, another by his feet was lying in a puddle of his own insides crying for a coup de grace. Aidan squatted behind his rock and took another sip of whiskey, it was local stuff and tasted foul, not that it bothered him much.

He wandered why the man hadn't already been shot, standing up when Karelia was hunting was a good way of loosing your head, or at least developing a hole in it. He waited, once the standing one was dealt with there would be scavenging. That meant caps, and caps mean drink and explosives.

Hannah

Seeing that no one was particularly ready to kill the the last Raider so checking her bullets to see there were a couple left in the magazine Hannah took aim and he went down. She finished scooting the rest of her body under the gate to come to a standing position.

Hannah bent down to see if she could provide any help with Lexie. She didn't see much she could do. "Does anyone know how to help her?" She asked Karelia.

"Not really, but hand me that whiskey bottle will you?"

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 13 2009, 01:28 AM

Karelia

Hannah handed her the whiskey and Karelia used it both to clear off some blood and to disinfect. She put her hand back over the open flesh immediately; it was bleeding badly.

She noted that someone had already turned on the engine to open the gate.

"Is there a doctor in town?" she asked, hoping to not be forced to rely on her own 'field medicine', which was really just a collection of raider tricks for staying alive that she'd seen and heard of. Some worked well, others were based on myths or outright lies.

Jonathan Guntherson

They were joined by a short woman who helped Karelia tend to Lexie. With the gunfight now over, and realizing that he would just get in the way if he tried to help the two, Jonathan sauntered over to his hat which lay in the dust a few steps away from him. He picked it up and dusted it off. Then, after scowling at the bullethole in it, he put it back on his head and sighed.

"So much for a perfect day." He mumbled to himself.
"Hey you! Get out of the way!" A stranger called out suddenly, shoving him aside. Jonathan opened his mouth to protest, but then he saw the suitcase the man was carrying. Someone had painted a red cross on it. Several men and women followed him, some part of the local militia, others assistants of the doctor and yet others just random people who had come to watch or salvage.
"'Thank goodness, lady Lexie will be alright now, I guess." Jonathan thought with relief.

As the medical team approached Karelia and Hannah, Jonathan walked towards the raider's position that was still partially concealed by smoke.
"Like hell I'm going to let a bunch of vultures take away all the spoils. Not after what those bastards did to my Frigerizer!"

OOC: I don't think we have a PC medic, so I just had some random Haven dude pop up. If anyone objects to this, I'll edit.

Karelia

Karelia backed away and let the real doctors work, though she stood close by. She was breathing heavily from the adrenalin, and bent over for a moment. resting her hands on her knees. It wasn't until after she stood again that she saw the red stains. With a sigh, she wiped the rest of the blood from her hands onto her jeans and went for the cigarettes that sat in her front tshirt pocket. As she lit one, she saw that the doctor had put Lexie on a stretcher, and they were now moving her into the town. The dead guard was also on a stretcher, covered by a dark blanket and following her through the gate.

I'll visit her in the clinic tomorrow.

Karelia retrieved her guns and the remainder of the whiskey before sitting down atop the FRIGERIZER, "Just when you start to relax, something happens,"

It was a lesson one learned quickly in the Wasteland, as forgetting it often left a person dead. Karelia was strongly reminded of that tonight.

Autumn

She followed the response team out of Haven's gate, taking in the battlefield from ground level. The responders carried an injured woman inside, as well as the guard stationed at the gate. While Autumn hadn't known the boy, she needed to hold someone responsible for his death. Since the raiders were already dead, that left the people that had provoked them to attack in the first place.

Autumn spotted one of the three travelers from before by a large piece of wheeled scrap. Unholstering her .45 pistol, she stormed toward the wasteland scum. "Get off that refrigerator!" She ordered, flicking the ambidextrous safety off.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 14 2009, 11:27 PM

Karelia

Karelia's expression was a quizzical one, as she didn't know what her offense was. Once she realized that there was none, she reacted in her typical way: tactlessly.

"I just got ambushed by raiders. I'll sit on any refrigerator I damn well please," she said, taking a slow drag on her cigarette to emphasize her point, "An' I ain't about to listen to some snot-nosed brat just 'cause daddy's got her a gun. Now go play militia girl somewhere else."

She took a swig of whiskey, and as she looked at the bottle, she entertained thoughts of whacking this girl across the face with it.

OCC: Ok, I can't promise I'll be able to get online with regularity until Friday night. If this is too heavy-handed, just say so.

Autumn

She regarded Karelia for a moment, then shook her head. "I had you marked when you walked into Haven." Autumn's mind started to swim. "I just have to look at you and I can see you're one of them."

One the militia responders, Ethan, came to her side. He turned to where Gale was working with two others to gather the bodies. "Captain, we could use you over here."
Gale turned in time to see Autumn toss away the pin of a grenade, Ethan grab her from behind, Autumn's throw go high. And the grenade bounced under Frigerizer Z......

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 15 2009, 06:12 AM

Karelia

"You had me marked?" she said to the girl as she walked away, "You little-"

She stopped mid-sentence as she dumbly watched a grenade leave the girl's hand, sail through the air, and land right beneath her seat. Of all her many regrets, her biggest at that moment was that she never did whale on a brat with a whiskey bottle.

"Sam! Watch out!" she shouted to her nearby friend as she abandoned the FRIGERIZER to its fate, hoping that Sam would be quick enough to do the same. She jumped farther than she thought she could, and hit the ground with a roll. She was face down on the ground with her arms covering her head when the thing exploded. When she finally did stand up, her balance was a bit shaky.

Karelia found that her pistol was in her hand, ready to fire. With a deep breath, she made a conscious effort to put it back in her belt.

Ugh, she's lucky a whole militia here's got her back. If this was any other place, any other time, that girl would be dead and I'd be laughing.

"That one's yours, right?" she asked Gale, though she pointed at Autumn, "Well keep that doggie on a shorter leash, 'cause if she tries to nip at me again I ain't gonna play nice. She'll get put down."

It was a fair enough warning in her mind, though she hoped that Gale took it as a warning and not a threat. She didn't think it really mattered though; she had a sneaking suspicion that after this little incident she wasn't staying in Haven anymore.

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan bent down and picked up a rifle that had fallen on the ground.
"Oh sweet, this baby's got a scope, and a mount for attaching bayonets! Just wait till I mount those on my pistol. Oh yeah." He said to himself with mad glee. Just then, he heard an odd explosion behind him. Surprised and with eyebrows raised, he turned to see what all the ruckus was about.

"Wuh, I thought we were done with the fighti....FRIGERIZER Z!!! No, my friend! What have they done to you?!" He screamed as he saw the flames licking at the machine's wrecked hulk.
"Who did this?!! I swear, I´ll tear their freaking heads of their skulls and feet it to their toads! I spent years building it!!! Now answer me! WHO!!!! DID!!!! THIS!!!!!` He raged, holding the rifle at the barrel and waving it at random people.

OOC± Yeah, he´s pissed and not sane enough to take a look at the situation and figure out who the culprit is, or that she´s got the entire militia behind her. And my keyboard is messing up all of a sudden. ~ that tilde was a plus/sign and the slash was a normal line. wacko.gif

Hannah

When Auntumn's grenade exploded under the refridgerator Hannah was close enough to be thrown back. When she finally rose a little shakily to her feet, she saw Karelia and Jonathan looking utterly pissed and Autumn walking off a little hatefully.

"You okay Karelia?" A man asked who she assumed was the leader of Karelia's small group of companions asked. The ex-Raider didn't respond but continued to stare after Autumn. Hannah shook her head slowly. Gale needed to watch Autumn more carefully if he expected her to live through all the people that hated her. Which among those seemed to be Karelia now. And me, seeing as she's pissed me off badly a few times before this, Hannah thought to herself.

Posted by: Olen Jul 17 2009, 07:54 PM

Aidan

When the last raider fell Aidan stood and went to loot the fallen. He was rifling through the pockets of a laser burnt corpse when there was an explosion. Instinctively he dropped, Grenade, frag, probably local made, he thought and glanced up. It had gone off by the strange fridge-based thing Karelia had been behind and by the looks of it had been thrown by one of the local militia. He pulled out his 10mm and cocked it with his mutilated right hand then walked deliberately over to the contraption.

When he got there the other man who had been scavenging was waving a rifle around and shouting. He glanced and saw that, other than some scrapes, Karelia had been lucky. He stepped up to the militia and pulled out a grenade. “Is there a problem here?” he asked, pushing his right index finger though the pin.

Posted by: Lord Revan Jul 18 2009, 08:45 PM

Gale

"Irene, take care of things here." He ordered, storming after Autumn back into Haven. Seeing him going after Autumn, Ethan stopped and went back to help the other responders. Gale slowed his pace once he crossed under Haven's gate. No longer actively pursuing his daughter, the militia captain simply trailed her through the streets, gradually closing the distance.

By the time he reached Autumn's side, Gale was mentally prepared to be patient with her. He cleared his throat, knowing that Autumn was fully aware of his presence already. When she remained silent, Gale spoke up. "It seems that.... Karelia is no longer running with the raiders."

Autumn swallowed, then gazed meaningfully to her father. "A raider umbrella seller is a raider umbrella seller until the day it's a dead raider umbrella seller."
Gale considered the sad truth to that commentary, the traits that made the raiders what they were, unadulterated self-interest and a callous disregard for human life, were difficult things to abandon. Those that survived in this world were generally too embedded in that marauding mindset to ever truly coexist with other human beings.

"We have no prove she provoked the other raiders to attack Haven." He said after a while. "But whatever happens, you are not going to be involved." Gale stared Autumn in the eyes to emphasize his point. "Autumn, as a member of Haven's militia, you have a responsibility to it's citizens. And that responsibility is more than killing raiders, understand?"

She stopped walking and scrutinized the floor. "Yes, I understand. But she needs to be dealt with."
They locked eyes for a moment, finally Gale replied. "The patrols out in the city could use some help; for now, I want you to lend them a hand."

Autumn nodded, it wasn't the first time she'd been patrolling out in Detroit. Gale knew she perferred scavenging in the ruins to skulking around Haven's streets. It would also distance her from the situation here. Compared to the travelers, Gale was certain Autumn would be safer in Detroit.

Jonathan Guntherson

No one dared reply to him, repulsed by the mad gleam in his eyes. If it came to violence, there was little doubt that Jonathan would be taken down. But in his current state, it would take some effort and there was no telling who he might injure with his rifle.

Still too furious to contemplate the situation, Jonathan stomped towards the militia group.
"Answer me! Who the hell dared touch my FRIGERIZER?!!" He screamed.
"Tell me already, you bunch of mute silent rhodents!" Apparantly realizing that the weapon he was holding was a slugthrower and not a club, he shifted his grip and now levelled the barrel into the general direction of the group.
"The one who'd done this had better step forward or I swear, I'm going to splatter all your filthy tongues over the walls here! You damn cowards, attacking a defenseless super robot of awesome!! THAT!!! WAS!!! MY!!! FRIEND!!!" His finger crept towards the trigger.

Linda

Slipping from where she sat against the shredded stump, her hand traced it's way along Jonathan's arm, and closed her fingers around his wrist, and she shook her head discouragingly. She paused a moment, looking at the blackened box as a wheel creakily spun on it's bent axle, and stroked the back of the mad-inventor's hand, before pointing at the contraption and back at him accusingly, with another shake of her head.

Her off hand slid down her own side, picking at the buckle over her pistol, yanking it out, and holding it loosely, finger just inside the safetyless trigger-guard.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 19 2009, 01:43 AM

Karelia

Gale left without an answer, leaving 'Irene' behind to clean up and Jonathan was none too happy about his refrigerator. She thought of trying to calm him, but didn't really know how. What could you say to someone this upset about their refrigerator? Luckily, Linda seemed to handle it, and didn't even need to say anything.

Karelia was tired and angry, her hands were still red with Lexie's blood, her entire body was covered in grime from the explosion, her ears were ringing, and to top it all off, she found a white shard of FRIGERIZER lodged in her forearm.

"I need to sit down," she said mostly to herself and found a spot on the ground next to the wall. With a curse reserved for 'militia girl' Karelia pulled the shrapnel from her arm and winced. It was a minor wound, but still bled a lot so she held the gash with her free hand to stem the flow a bit.

Posted by: Olen Jul 19 2009, 09:15 AM

Aidan

Aidan holstered his pistol and returned the grenade to its pouch. He wandered over to the madman Linda was comforting. He seemed to be upset about the blackened remains of a fridge which they had been hiding behind in the gunfire, a wheel hung crookedly from it and oil dribbled like black blood from the bottom.

He nodded to its owner, “It’s a pity,” he said, “But think of how much better it will be once you repair it.” It might help, or not, either way Linda seemed to be managing.

“You alright?” he called to Karelia.

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 19 2009, 10:02 AM

Karelia

"Yeah," she answered Aidan, calming a bit to realize that she really was okay, "I think my arm's gonna heal before my ego. Lil' girl's got spunk, gotta give her that."

It was true. Karelia was more bothered by the fact that Autumn had so quickly thrown her into an awkward and hopeless situation. After the grenade, there was really nothing she could do to retaliate, only stand there stupidly and take the insult, which she did. It made her seethe inside. But seething could wait. She was exhausted from her long journey and their subsequent adventures in Haven.

"Where were those beds?" she asked, "Delta terminal? Am I still allowed in there?"

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 19 2009, 02:08 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan was surprised when a hand suddenly closed around his wrist. Looking for its owner, he found out that it belonged to a silent woman, who apparantly tried to tell him something using nothing but sign language.

"Wuh, who the hell are...Oh right! I've got to check if it's loaded first! Gun safety first, make sure never to pull the trigger when there is a bullet in the chamber!...something sounds off about that." He said, calming down while simultaneously misinterpreting the message.

"It’s a pity, but think of how much better it will be once you repair it.” A man said, before turning to Karelia to inquire about her wound. Those words completely changed Jonathan's train of thought. While he was first focussed on finding someone to blame and punish, now he was focussed on what he could do with the remains.
"You know what, you're right. Obviously there were a few flaws in the design. What it needs is some 30 millimetres of reinforced Titanium to protect all the vulnerable sections, as well as switching over to a more robust tracked system for propulsion and hey you guys! Aren't you using some kind of engine to move that gate? Mind if I borrow it for a while, I need the extra horsepower to move the armour. Oh, and an anti-grenade laser turret! Got one of those?"

Posted by: seerauna Jul 19 2009, 06:14 PM

Hannah

She was left feeling a little awkward when Karelia started talking a man and Jonathan rambled madly to himself. Linda stood off to the side looking about the same as Hannah felt. Hoping she remained unnoticed to avoid any questions she slipped away to find something else to do. No one would miss me here anyways, she thought, and slipped under the gate into town.

Posted by: Lord Revan Jul 19 2009, 10:38 PM

Haven Militia, Irene

Irene was pleased to see someone calm the enraged man before Ethan had to pacify him forcibly. When he started asking about the motor for Haven's gate, she shook her head. "We like to keep the same unit installed for as long as possible, but perhaps you could inquire the scavenger parties, they'd be willing to sell or exchange one with you."

Then the traveler Autumn had identified as a former raider asked whether she was still welcome to Delta Terminal Quarters. "For now you may use them, but an extended stay could prove troublesome for all of us."

Posted by: Dantrag Jul 19 2009, 11:47 PM

Karelia

She nodded and headed in that direction after slinging her rifle back over her shoulder and lighting a cigarette for the walk. Her arm was still bleeding slightly, and Karelia grew tired of holding it, so she let go.

It wasn't long before she saw the sign for Delta Terminal, and as she kept on, she found another sign that read 'Accomodations'. Beside it was another pointing to the Clinic. Remembering Lexie, she headed for the latter. Jonathan was so upset about his contraption now that he'd seemingly forgotten his friend, and Karelia guessed the girl would want some company. She didn't usually do this type of thing, and wasn't sure why she was now.

Maybe militia girl's right, in a way. Maybe nothing can make up for what I've done...

No, she decided. That girl had been out of line. The past was the past; what mattered was the present. And the future, though that was always less certain.

She entered the clinic; it was nothing special. There were two small rooms lined with beds and another room full of medical equipment Karelia couldn't name, and the two doctors there were always wheeling machines in and out of it.

"Um, excuse me, sir?" Karelia said, trying not to interrupt the doctor's work, but wanting to find Lexie.

"Hold on," the doctor said as he injected an unconscious patient with medicine. When he was done, he turned to face Karelia and noticed her arm, "Oh, my! I'll get that patched right up for you. It's not a major injury; ten caps."

Karelia shook her head. She didn't have the caps anyway, "I ain't here for that. I need to see Lexie, is she here?"

He shook his head, "I don't know a Lexie."

"She got shot outside the gate a few minutes ago," Karelia explained, "I just wanna make sure she's doin' alright."

"Oh, right. We just finished stitching her up after we pulled the bullet and gave her some stimpacks. She'll be fine, but she'll be hurting for a while. She's sleeping over there, but the anesthesia should wear off soon."

Karelia grabbed a chair and sat by Lexie, "How you doin'?"

Posted by: Olen Jul 20 2009, 07:59 PM

Aidan

Karelia headed back into town leaving Aidan with owner of the charred fridge. He looked at the madman who was babbling something about lasers and motion sensors now.

"Hi," he nodded, "I'm Aidan, I see you've met Karelia." He paused wandering how to phrase the next bit, he'd seen someone stretchered off and given the reaction of the security force it wasn't one of them, "Did you know the... casualty?"

He took a seat on the burnt refrigerator and picked up the spirit Karelia had used on Lexie's wound. There were some dregs left anyway.

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Jul 21 2009, 02:57 AM

Sam

"Sam! Look out!"

As soon as he heard the cry Sam glanced over from his perch on one of the fridge thing's tyres, just in time to see the grenade bounce onto the vehicle. Without thinking, Sam threw himself flat as a wave of heat and whickering shrapnel tore through the air above him.

For a moment he lay on the floor, stunned by the noise and force of the blast, before he stumbled to his feet, ears ringing. He watched with a vague interest as a man began to yell at a crowd of onlookers, waving a rifle about. After a moment, the newest member of his company, Linda, calmed him down and Aiden led him over to the wreckage of the vehicle.

Sam smacked his head to clear the noise and stumbled over to Aiden, trying to avoid falling over.

"What just happened?" he asked dazedly.

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 21 2009, 09:42 AM

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan shrugged.
"Who? Oh, you mean lady Lexie. Yeah, I know her. In fact, we were travelling together. Till this happened." He answered, just as they were joined by the blonde man from earlier.
"Were is the keyword. Seeing how things have turned out, I'll just stay out of her way and hope she stays out of mine. It would be much safer if she just stayed behind those walls now. Out here, she'll only get shot at again." He continued, bending down to stop the still spinning wheel.

"Bloody hell, and I'd fixed the engine this morning! What do they think, that lawnmowers grow on trees? So anyway, if you want to meet her, she'll be in the local equivalent of a hospital by now."

Posted by: Olen Jul 21 2009, 10:09 AM

Aidan

Sam staggered over and asked Aidan what happened.

"We beat the raiders and the damned locals attacked us. One of their militia threw a grenade at Karelia. God knows what she said to provoke that. If I were you I'd find us a job sharpish and get out of this hole before I blow up their barracks." He drained the dregs from the bottle and threw it across the battle-zone, "No one was hurt, but at least we know not to buy their grenades."

He turned back to Jonathan. The man was clearly insane but there was something about him which Aidan found interesting, or at least refreshingly entertaining. He didn't seem overly concerned about the woman he was travelling with but Aidan didn't want to push it. Instead he said, "What's the story with the fridge anyway? And as far as engine go... well I'm short of caps and booze, and I need some more gear. Those raiders must have come from somewhere and that leaves one seriously undermanned camp nearby..." He shot a questioning look at Sam, "Easy money?"

Posted by: jack cloudy Jul 21 2009, 06:42 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

"Ah, that is a very interesting tale of heroism and great battles for the future of all mankind...not. The truth is, I was once hopping around an old junkyard looking for neat stuff when it started to hail. Hail as if a mother of all north poles came falling out of the sky. I swear, pebbles bigger than my thumb!" Jonathan said when asked about his refrigerator, sticking up a thumb for emphasis.

"Now naturally, I needed a place to hide and behold, FRIGERIZER Z appeared before me right at that moment! I must say I've never slept inside a refrigerator before, but it is quite comfy....except I had to force the lock next morning because they're not designed to be opened from the inside. Err...one thing led to another. I didn't want to leave behind such a good hiding place and it's a bit too heavy to just drag around...So I gave it some wheels! And a fan! And...all the other things that got trashed!" He finished, kicking the dust in frustration.

"Hah, if you guys are going to give those raiders some of their own medicine, I'm in. And if they don't have any good parts for me to use, I'm going to sue them into next friday!"

Posted by: Colonel Mustard Aug 25 2009, 10:37 AM

Sam

"Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me," Sam said. "As long as there aren't too many of them."

He glanced over to Johnathon.

"You want to come and avenge your fridge you're welcome to," he said. "And you can probably find some guns to stick on your new one so it doesn't happen again."

Hopefully getting rid of some raiders, who would probably be a menace on the town otherwise, would put him in a higher standing with that lawman. Sam had a feeling that he wasn't well loved, but that was the usual lot of a mercenary. They weren't wanted, weren't loved, but more often than not were needed to do a job a mere militiaman, or whatever the local title was, couldn't do.

Posted by: jack cloudy Aug 31 2009, 12:48 PM

Jonathan Guntherson

Jonathan smirked and flung the rifle over his shoulder where it went off with a loud bang.
"Ah, oops! I forgot that some fool removed the safety from this hunk a junk!" He muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Anyway! I'm the sharpest sharpshooter with an unloaded gun you'll ever find. Just say the word and I'll be right behind you, beside you or wherever you want me to be."

OOC: Lessee. He had three bullets, fired one into a tree and now another into the air. That leaves just one till he finds some more at that camp. Yep, I'm keeping track. Oh wait, it's a different gun. And now that I think of it, the guardman's rifle he probably left underneath the Frigerizer, so it got blown up with the grenade.

Err, zero bullets in the revolver and...let's say one in the raider's rifle. I'm going to claim that it's got two barrels (and two triggers), but only allows one round in each barrel. I think they used to have hunting rifles like that quite a while back. That sound good? It's not as if he's going to hit anything with it.

She took a beath of the offered inhaler and felt the immediate relief, since she wasn't that used to the drug, she was pretty high instantly

"Uhhh Karelia..uhh..jeez, that doesn't look so good...but I know...hehe I...ehhh know how to treat burns, I'm probably a better doctor than the one ..hehe who stitched me up!"

She gggled and showed Karelia her wound

It was poorly stiched up and she would probably get a nasty scar

"Mebbe I shud tear it open and do the sewing myself" She swayed a bit from side to side, then put her hand on Karelia's arm (not the wounded one)

"Thank you for coming...you're nice..I...I should treat your burn, it's in my bag, the ointment...the one in..."

Then she fell back in the bed with a happy smile in her face

Ohh...I'm flying

Suddenly she was clearly awake, grabbed her bag and took out a small tin box which she gave Karelia.

"Rub this directly on the wound every four hours, you will heal within 24 hours"

She fell back again...

Sam

"Right," Sam said, looking doubtfully at the hole Jonathon's stray bullet had torn into the dirt. "That'll be good. Yeah, thanks."

He realised then that the Jonathon said that we was the best shot with an unloaded gun.

"Hold on," Sam said. "Are you any good with a loaded gun?"

Autumn

In spite of the recent unpleasantness, Autumn felt good to be out in Detroit's ruins again. She had visited on of the armories to pick up an M1 Garand rifle for her patrol. The 30-06 was heavier and less accurate than her Soviet bolt-action, but it packed more punch against heavy targets like mirelurks, not to mention it had a higher rate of fire.

While not her normal choice of weaponry, Autumn could appreciate its usefulness in close quarters. She grabbed 8 clips of 30-06, totaling 64 rounds for the M1. Anyone in the militia would have known 64 was too much ammunition for a group where ammunition could be shared. As she slipped through the baggage area, she planned out in her mind how to approach the raider holethat the attack had most likely come from.

Jonathan Guntherson

"But of course! That's what I just said, didn't I? While it takes a moment or two to figure out the wind direction, mass and aerodynamics of the involved objects, amount of force exerted by the firing mechanism and of course the amount of dirt in the barrel. I usually hit what I want in four or five shots. And if that isn't enough...well, I can usually make up a catapult or something from random objects lying around." Jonathan replied.
"Which reminds me, I'd better remove the one bullet still left in the chamber. I'd hate to waste that one on good air."

Karelia

Karelia was surprised by Lexie's reaction to the jet. Usually people were more energetic, not passing out. Then again, she had just been shot and heavily anesthetized.

In the meantime, she took the ointment and rubbed some on her arm as Lexie said. It stung, but she endured it for a few moments and it went away. She stuffed the tin in her pocket, waiting for Lexie to wake up again.

Lexie

Lexie just passed out for a short while, she enjoyed the feeling that jet gave her, the pain was clearly diminshed. But she suddenly felt hunger, raving hunger...

"Karelia! You're still here? Wonderful...so can you get me out of here? I can walk...and if I could please have some more of thatr stuff you gave me earlier, I promise..I can even fly!"

She sat up in bed, all smiling, her hair was in a mess, her clothes were probably hidden somewhere , all she was wearing was a long white shirt.

"Come on my friend, let's go, I'd like to ...to do something!"

She jumped out of bed, her legs did shake a bit but she tool a deep breath and grabbed Karelia's shoulder...

Sam

Sam nodded at Johnathon's explanation, but mainly not to upset the man.

"Speaking of which," he said. "Should probably check my stocks."

He picked up a cloth sack from his belt and pulled three heavy metal drums from them, magazines for his shotgun. A quick count revealed one had its full complement of twelve shells, one with nine and one with ten. Unless there was a small army of raiders at their encampment, which Sam doubted (too many raiders simply antagonised each other immensely, and the only way to keep a lot together was to have them led by a leader more dangerous and ruthless than most sane men.

A quick check through another pouch strapped to his waist revealed he had another six bullets for his magnum, as well as the other four inside the chamber. After a moment's thought, he emptied the powerful revolver and put the bullets in his pouch. The last thing he wanted was an accident like's Johnathon's.

Karelia

Karelia almost fell when Lexie grabbed her shoulder for balance.

"Whoa, there. Slow down. At least get some clothes on..." she glanced around the room quickly before her eyes rested on a footlocker near the bed.

"All your things are in here," she said, opening the thing up.

Lexie

"Oh? Ah good" she said with a smile.

It took some time for her to get dressed, the jeans were ok but her t-shirt was stained with blood, so she decided to keep the shirt instead. She tied it around her waist, got her boots finally, it caused her quite some pain to bend down.

"So, can we please go now? And can I have some of that thing ...it hurts now"

She bit her lip, sweat was forming on her forehead, but she wes eager to get out of the hospital...

Karelia

Lexie seemed to have a hard time, but finally got herself dressed and gathered her things.

Karelia handed Lexie the jet, "Take the rest, but try to go easy, okay? And I'm gonna need the inhaler back when you're done."

They left the hospital, and Karelia lit up a cigarette, "Now that we're out, where to?"

Autumn, near the Raider hideout

As she slipped through the rubble of crumbling neighborhoods, Autumn slipped her bayonet over the Garand's muzzle with a reverant air. She began working out how to storm the hideout. The raiders that resided there had never been considered a threat to Haven, but Haven's militia had done recon from a distance in case that ever changed.

Autumn made her way to the dillapitated building on the far side of the stronghold from Haven. From there she would have a commanding view of the area once she flushed the raiders out of their pit.

Lexie

"Uhh, you tell me! I'm not familiar here, I have no idea where I am...you seem to know everything, I'll follow you"

Lexie looked confused...

Posted by: Dantrag Sep 16 2009, 02:27 AM

OOC: is the plan still to go after the raiders and 'save' Autumn? that's kinda what my post was geared towards.

Karelia

"I guess we'd better find Sam and the others," she said. It was nighttime, and the streets of Haven were mostly empty, save the tavern-goers and the militia. They checked the bar first; where else could Sam and Aidan be found?

They stepped inside, and were greeted by the smells of smoke and liqour; two of Karelia's favorites. The sights though, were less welcome. No sign of her crew.

"They ain't here," she said to Lexie before stepping outside again, "I swear, if they're still by that gate..."

They weren't off to a good start in Haven. Between the raiders, grenades, and extreme lack of communication, Karelia had a bad feeling about the near future.

Posted by: Olen Sep 16 2009, 10:12 AM

Aidan

They'd sat for a while outside the gate while it emerged that Jonathan only had a single bullet. It wasn't the problem it might have been, he was confident that Sam would kill a raider before too long, then there'd be more guns and ammo. Sam set about checking through his own weapons so Aidan got up to rake over the dead raiders once more.

The locals had done a fairly thorough job but he did manage to scavenge a couple of bits of makeshift armour and most importantly a half bottle of really awful vodka. He failed to find any weapons or explosives though so walked back towards where Jonathan and Sam sat, swigging the liquor as he went.

"We going to do this then?," he asked the other two, "It's beginning to get dark."

Posted by: seerauna Sep 16 2009, 12:26 PM

Hannah

She had been heading towards the hospital to see Lexie when she saw Karelia and Lexie herself step out from the tavern. She caught on to the last thing Karelia said when she came into earshot. "I swear, if they're still by that gate..." She looked and sounded frustrated, and Hannah didn't blame her.

She caught on to the meaning quickly and walked closer telling the older women, "If you're looking for the rest of your crew, I haven't seen them come back in. They might be outside the gate like you said."

Posted by: minque Sep 19 2009, 11:11 PM

Lexie

She followed Karelia around. The bar pleased her she felt an urge for a drink.

Funny, I never craved alcohol before...

"Why the hurry? Can't we have a drink first?, I'm sure the others who they are won't mind"

Posted by: Dantrag Oct 17 2009, 09:23 PM

OOC: i didn't know if this one was dead or not, but i like it so im going to try to keep it moving.

Karelia

"Umm...no," Karelia said to Lexie, noting the effects of jet on her, "You don't need no more drink, girl. Probably didn't need that jet either."

Karelia often forgot how much tolerance she'd built up for jet; it usually affected others in a much stronger way. Lexie, it seemed, was a bit unused to the drug.

"I gotta go get Sam and Aiden movin', 'cause that's how caps get in my pocket."

Hopefully we're leaving this damned place.

Posted by: minque Oct 18 2009, 02:14 AM

Lexie

Lexie shrugged, Karelia was probably right, she needed no more speed-stuff.

"Ok, I'm in. I'll follow you, just tell me what I shall do and I'll try my best. How's your burn? Doesn't hurt that much by now huh? That ointment is a killer!...ehh pain killer I mean"

She followed the other girl, feeling god about having a female friend...
