Hey all. It's Lady Saga, and today I'd like to talk about some Skyrim roleplay ideas I've come up with over the last few months. I got the game at midnite on 11/11/11. So I've come up with quite a few.
There are far more ideas than I've had time to implement of course, which is okay because I know I'm gonna be playing this game for years anyways. Some of these characters would never work in Oblivion, especially since I'm playing the vanilla game (I'm on PS3).
Feel free to share your own Skyrim roleplay ideas.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
The Bandit:
This one will be a male, either a Redguard or a cat-person. I've never played a Khajiit, so it's possible my bandit will be a cat-person. With the bandit, I'm planning to simply travel the roads for awhile (after raiding Riverwood, which is not heavily guarded). The bandit uses no magic...none. Only simple armors and weapons, bows, etc. He'll know about ingredients, but not how to make potions. He's not that bright.
The bandit will travel the road until he finds some sort of an encampment he can take over by the side of a busy road, possibly inhabited by other bandits. He will take this encampment over and live there as long as it seeems fruitful. During his time here, he will simply sit and watch. He will wait for travelers to drift by. Those travellers which seem weak? He attacks them! Guards and such will be avoided if possible, although perhaps an eventual bounty might change this.
He will be very much like a medieval bandit, in other words, who waits by the road in ambush.
=============================================
The Cleric:
I've already made a cleric. Clerics often were played as support characters during the great Dungeons & Dragons days (before videogames took over the genre). They are not usually in the midst of battle. their role was often on the sidelines: healing up the fighters, keeping them alive as they fought monsters head-on.
In Skyrim the cleric is still somewhat of a support character, I've noticed, but he or she can wind up fighting enemies head-on as well. Claire Voyance (Breton, currently Level 28) hooked up with Brelyna at the Mage's Guild College. I was originally trying to play Claire Voyance as Restoration, Illusion, and Alteration-only, but she eventually had to take on some Conjuration as well.
Brelyna usually took the role of the magic-user during battle, with lots of Magika to spend. Both Brel and Claire could cast Summon Fire Atronach, so both usually did so. After this, Claire would be free to support Brelyna at times, healing her up, and casting certain helpful spells as well.
But the Cleric isn't as specific as it was in DnD, where we could make large parties of PC's, each character playing a specific role. Eventually, the Cleric must also become part-fighter and magic-user as well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the third and final RP idea I'm going to present, as it's already 6:10 pm and I need to get dinner started.
The Paper map
When I first got Skyrim, I opened the box, and then purposely made myself not look at the big, tan-colored map. I didnt' want any spoilers. I didn't even look at the 3d in-game world map. I didn't really need to, since me and my first 2 characters mostly spent all our time in the Riverwood/Whiterun area. I spent a LOT of time in this area folks!
But at some point during my 2nd character's existence (Thor a'Zaene the mercenary fighter I mentioned earlier), I figured it's possible Thor could have a paper map. Then the idea was born. Why yes! He has a paper map. He can look at it in any time. It'll be hard as heck to find locations during future quests, but I like a challenge! I need challenges! Can it even be done? Can we use only the paper map and find our way around?
Turns out, it is possible, but very very hard. I eventually decided that as long as Thor is in a town, he's allowd to look at a "better" map than the paper one. If he's in a town, I therefore will look at the 3D map. I'll look at the area where the next quest marker is, and I'll try to mark its location with a pencil on the paper map. You have to use pencil.
Once he's out of town, I'm no longer looking at the 3D map, only the paper one. There's an X on it, jsut as if he's got it marked by somebody in town, and now this map is tucked away in his backpack or something. I keep reminding myself I need to find a place that'll copy the paper map, this way I'm not always putting X's on it!
I personally feel it's far more immersive this way. I have a theory Bethesda actually included the paper map for roleplay purposes, for those of us who are hardcore enough to try it! I've tried it and it's challenging, but for those who persist, it's a good way to really get into the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pasta's boiling...here's one more idea.
The Scout
The Scout is another idea which stemmed from the map one. The scout (the way I'll eventually play him) will only ride his horse through rough territory. He will not do any dungeon diving. Instead, he will be a support character to other characters I'm gonna make in the future: especially dead-is-dead types.
My Scout will be an American Indian looking character to start, but looks aren't really that important. Neither is race. Here's how The Scout works.
Let's say I've got a character who's supposed to go on a quest in some remote, uncharted location. We'll call him Character #1. The Scout will go there first. He'll ride a horse (gotta have a horse), and get a feel for the terrain and any enemies which are about. As he travels, I'll be using the paper map idea, taking notes as we go.
Let's say the location he's needing to scout is a fort. He eventually gets there, sees what enemies are about, and immediately leaves. He may be detected....that's okay. As long as he escapes and can make a note of it, he's done his job.
After The Scout returns to wherever he was last camped at, Character #1 now has the information he or she needs to advance into that fort, or not advance into it. It's my way of keeping my dead-is-dead characters alive, like I said.
I'm also picturing the Scout as being someone who's able to hunt and live off the land. There's lots more harmless wildlife in vanilla Skyrim (compared to Oblivion) and The Scout will be able to live off of this. He'll definitely carry a bow and a daggar.
Stay tuned for another idea I've had: The Witch!
Some very neat ideas!
I can add in The Bounty Hunter. Skyrim makes this real easy, as you can get bounties from the steward at your local Jarl's house, and even from inns sometimes. Your character can simply go from bounty to bounty, hunting down wanted criminals. You might stick to one area, or drift across the province.
I created my http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10860 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10733 mods to make a Witch (what old school D&D types would call a Druid) character possible. Although I realize that folks like Saga on the consoles have to make due without mods. With them however, you can be a guardian of the wilderness, living in peace with the natural animals, and even being able to call upon them to fight on your behalf. Alchemy would likely be a large part of such a character's repertoire. They might make regular trips to a local town to sell their potions in return for whatever supplies they might need. The only problem here is that you need someplace with an alchemy table, like the Alchemist's Shack in the Rift.
So far Primrose has been a combination of these two.
Awesome! Damn. I wish I could summon a giant tiger like that! Would sure save a lot of trouble.
Yes, I've played the role of the mercenary with Thor a'Zaene (who only cared about money and adventure) I guess that's similar to the Bounty Hunter. Thor spent almost all his time keeping the bandit holds around Whiterun and eventually Markath safe. He did this mostly for the money. Claire, on the other hand, is similar to Dyan the paladin, who was one of my Oblivion characters for those who don't know this. Both Dyan and Claire do things for a "higher purpose", ridding evil from the world in support of Mara or some others of the Nine. Mostly Mara, though. Money for them is secondary, although Claire does like some treasures just to have them around.
I'm also going to talk about a druid, too, when I have more time. My druid will be peaceful, though. She won't be like my witch idea.
Thanks for sharing, SubRosa. I'll post more later, maybe tomorrow.
Really good ideas like always! Playing as a bandit is REALLY fun, I'll get back to you about it later, not home right now, need to log into my game to remember where my bandit lived
I'll also give ideas of my own But I can't right now, wait a little while, eh?
Had one I made a run at in December before my interest in her petered out.
Soldier
Trained in the lands of Hammerfell, the Redguard learned to wield any weapon placed in her hands, eventually settling on two swords. Like many from her land, she has a high distrust of magic and refuses to touch anything that makes use of it. Though released from service due to a serious but not crippling injury, she has eventually made her way to Skyrim chasing rumors of civil unrest and anti-Thalmor sentiments.
The Details: No magic. Period. Won't touch any of the skill in the Mage branch nor use anything from them. So no enchanted items or staffs. Potions limited to healing/stamina/poisons. No (or as limited as possible) use of Shouts.
I'm really curious to know if anybody else has ever used the paper map as I have, or in some other way (other than for putting up on the wall, that is).
I like that Vigilant of Stendarr idea! That's true, there are several things in-game was can borrow from like that.
My first 2 characters were similar to your soldier, nadiar. Neither of them used magic spells, either, although they both used potions. Gotta use some potions in this land for pure fighters. The main diff between my fighters and your soldier is they preferred sheild/weapon combinations. I haven't tried a dual-wielding weapons character in Skyrim yet, although I will. Not being able to block is just too weird, but I am thinking of an assassin-type character who will dual-wield.
And I'm looking forward to your ideas, fawkes. I've got more ideas of my own. Is it possible to make spoiler tags here, by the way? The Witch sort of requires that I do so.
Wait...I know you fawkes. There's no mistake! The Jarl has asked for you. you're Killer Penguin, right?
You can do spoilers, you just have to add the tags manually.
Just quote my post, and I think you should see the code. Basically just type the word spoiler with brackets around it to start with, and follow with your spoily text. Then to close it type in the world spoiler again, but lead it with a bracket and a slash, like this: [/
Okay thanks, SubRosa, I'll figure spoiler tags out tomorrow, then. I gotta get to bed now. Jeez, where does the time go? Sigh.
I love these ideas! And to answer your question, I have not used the paper map like you have. I make limited use of the in game map. I just don't use it very much. Just the compass and choosing the road that seems like it goes in the right direction.
Oh I see. Yea, I don't use the compass at all, instead I try to use shadows on the ground to see where east and west are. I did this in Oblivion, too. It only gets tricky at around noon, or also if it's raining. all a sudden it's hard to see where the shadows point!
I have the HUD on its very lightest setting, so I can barely see the Health, stamina, and magicka bars. But the compass itself? It's not perceptible for me at all.
By the way, isn't it nice to discuss all this stuff without the pressure of Bethsoft's cruddy mean people? I never could have posted this thread up there, not peacefully anyways. There would already be a flame-war or some otehr such nonsense going on if this same thread were there. And without a flame-war, the topic would be off the front page in less than a day.
I'm tempted to just use shadows and such now. I think I'll try it out next time I fire up Skyrim.
If I don't like that, then I'm going to pretend that Aravi has a compass and toggle off all the quest markers except in proximity to the quest giver.
EDIT: Oh and I agree with you about the other forums. I'm glad you made an account here.
Thanks, I'm glad I made an account here, too. If this were Bethsoft, there would already be a couple "elitists" showing up telling me my ideas are stupid for xxx reason. The entire thread would already be divided up into "supporters" and "detractors".
Oh one thing. At night, the shadows-on-ground thing is weird. I forget how it works in Skyrim, but in Oblivion the moons don't provide actual light. Light always "shines" from the west at night in Cyrodiil, because this is where the sun goes down. It's a little oversight in Bethesda's part.
Weird! I never noticed!Only someone navigating like you would have. That's cool!
Aravi usually isn't out at night. She tries to find somewhere to spend the night. 3-4pm is when she starts looking for somewhere to rest.
The Black Magic Witch
In Oblivion I made a "black magic witch" character, based on the Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of Oz. She was a dark elf and her name was Luci Pheria (my play on Lucifer). Her backstory was that she had been in jail for a very long time, through a good portion of Uriel Septim's reign, matter of fact. When Uriel wound up coming thru her cell and thru the initial passageways, she eventually attacked him, matter of fact!
Luci had been in jail so long, her sanity had eroded. Instead of talking, she often grunted and hurled mysterious insults at the NPC's she eventually met. She was supposed to have been from Morrowind, and what's interesting about her is early on in her roleplay she had this desire to go immediately east...towards Cheydinhal. I had the sense that she wanted to go home. The interesting thing is back then I didn't know how Tamriel is supposed to be laid out. I had no idea the Morrowind pretty much lies east of Cheydinhal.
She was pretty much a drifter at first, but eventually settled in the Great Forest area, taking over Weatherleah (pre-quest). I never ever did any quests with Luci, but she was one of my strongest roleplays, until she got killed by a bandit that is.
So for the Skyrim version of the evil witch, she's going to probably settle in the Riverwood area. She'll somehow manage to take over that little broken-down cottage across the river from Riverwood (the one that's occupied by that old lady, who is also something of a witch it turns out). She'll be pretty much like Luci, I'm assuming. She'll mess with people, build up her magics, terrorize those she can get away with terrorizing.
I haven't played a genuinely evil character in Skyrim yet. I'm anticipating it'll be tougher than Oblivion, simply because Cyrodiil's wilderness areas are easier to escape into when the PC is at lower levels.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I've been meditating on a druid character as well, but I don't have much of an idea of what he or she will be like. DnD druids could only be human for some reason, but I'm gonna make a wood elf druid. The whole nature/woods/druid thing just goes together.
The idea is kinda vague, though, which means this is probably gonna be one of those characters that I "get to know as I go". He or she will spend lots of time in nature, obviously. I need to read up on some Wiccan and Celtic books (I think I have some around, still, at my house somewhere) because I think the Druid will wind up really getting into some ceremonial practices.
I'm going to throw two RP ideas before I head home.
I'll see if I can post more ideas when I get home.
Warning; I'm really silly and strange, I get RP ideas out of nothing.
FOrgot to say, still have not put my ideas for the druid, fisherman, spy, necromancer, among several others, but alas, class is about to start!
Oh and the Orc Culture? Really easy, being my favorite race in TES I read up on their lore :3, Although my Orc's have all forsaken the strongholds, Usually because they were not born there, or left on their own accord.
One of my favorite Rp was the Guard, yup something so simple really caught stole my time :3, The race should be Nord, but I'm certain you pull it of with any other race. Anyway first this is first, chose a Hold you would like to defend with your life , for me I chose Riften, just because there are Theifs who break into the NPC's houses at night, Next grab the Guard armor and weapons for the hold, which if you have seen the guards it's usually the sword and the shielf with the insigna, but some guards use two handed weapons and bows, so make sure to stock on them too!
If you want to guard a hold, but don't want to buy a house, then Marry! Of course they need a house, or at least a bed, Example Benor in Morthal, he has a bed in the barracks, you can go to sleep on the bed right when he is about to sleep, you wake up feeling your lovers comfort. Anyway, you will end up patroling your hold, really simple, your quest will be from the Jarl, as well as some made up quest! For example Godfrey's quest for his husband Balimund, he had to get several Dwemer armor and weapons from the Dwemer ruins , that was a rather fun quest. If you want more fun spawn dragons!
Of course you're character needs to wake up early each day and make some food for the day, if your married the meal your spouse gives you will be enough, if you feel like it's going to be a long day, don't hesitate on bringing more rations.
And remember to take the day off at least once a week! And enjoy your time in the Tavern, or reading a good book.
Now for the background of the character is really up to you, Godfrey was born and raised in Riften, Balimund was his best friend, once they reached of age they both married, after a few years they adopted!
Of course Godfrey lost one of his eyes during a bandit raid, Balimund became very over protective since that day.
The treasure hunter!
I got this idea when Gilliam had Stenvar as a companion, Stenvar kept talking about how this or that will fetch alot of gold, so why not? .
Race, it's really up to you, I chose Breton.
No Weapons and Armor are not something a treasure hunter looks for! Unless he/she feels the magic spark from them, what they look for is gems! Musty Tomes, Ancient Relics, The ancient Nordic weapons also work, my point, anything that looks expensive or rare!
Now, will you go out alone? And take the riches all for yourself? Or will you cut your profits with a companion? Perhaps a spouse, My breton ended up sharing his wealth with Stenvar, they ended up getting married and now live in Solitude, Note! The life of a treasure hunter is a risky one! The treasure hunter will explore what ever caves/forts,ect that he will find, who knows what riches might lie just waiting to be taken.
Cool I like that Guard idea, KP/Fawkes. That's something I'll probably try too. Maybe I'll hybrid your Guard idea with my Son of Talos Stormcloak idea, matter of fact, since a Nord would most likely fall into this role.
These RP ideas sound cool!... ...
Sadly Robert's RP-ing tends to fall into the "What shall I do on this game then?...Oh, I know...Magic Knight!!!"...
And that's me...Every game...Essentially Templ*Cough*...Knight of The Nine every time... ...
Geez. I thought Bounty Hunters were uncommon. But I love the Bounty Hunter idea.
I had an Imperial male character that was tribune and later a Pentulus Oculatus. Brash, mean, the Thalmor of the Empire. Lost rank and position for his heinous acts of brutality. Has borderline personality disorder.
The Inquisitor RP sounds great! Very good. I was wondering if there could be a political aspect to it, not only hack and slash but a mixture of adventure, action, mystery and of course humorous comedy along a storyline.
Maybe we can add various episodic RP's that can branch out into different storylines. Such as the sacking of the Imperial City we can form a group and migrate to Skyrim or any other province where we could all take to our own mini quests and sorts.
Good ideas, DE. thanks for sharing. I also like to think that if Cyrodiil is now supposed to be run-down, lots of ideas could come from this because..well..lots of PC's want to get rich. They want to go where they know they can possibly find fame and glory, as well.
I'm finding this next idea to be a convenient backstory when i can't think of anything else (it's the "backstory" I used for a couple of my Sky characters so far).
Adventurers Wanted
With a couple of my characters (Thor a'Zaene the Nordic figher and Crystal Beth the high elf mage) I've come up with a convenient backstory that works generically with them and probably several of my future characters. this is the "adventurers wanted" idea. Here's how it works.
I had several Oblivion characters who basically did LOTS of dungeon-diving and plundering. Renee Gade, Renee Gade II, Dyan phor a'Cauz, Lady Saga, Eradi~Kate, and The Grey Wizard are some examples. Basically, I like to think that after all of these plunderers, the great forts, Ayleid ruins, caves (etc.) have all been picked clean.
Fast-forward 200 years. We're now deep into the 4th era, and the stories of those past Cyrodiilic adventurers have long become a part of current Tamriellic lore, possibly handed down several generations amongst humans (possibly elves, orcs, and beastfolk as well) from adult to child. As time goes on, there are always going to be treasure hunters, of course. Some of them dive into Cyrodiil's dungeons only to find??? NOTHING! There's nothing to find.
So, this is why we're starting to see a few select and dedicated individuals who are coming to Skyrim. Looking for adventuring possibilities. Are the Nordic and Dwemer ruins of Skyrim still packed with treasures, the way Cyrodiil's dungeons once were? Turns out they are. It gives an automatic motive, and makes sense at the beginning of the game, since we start on a cart that is moving into Skyrim from Cyrodiil or somewhere else.
I don't participate in many Skyrim threads in the BethSoft forums just because of people like that. Since Mass Effect 3 launched yesterday, maybe some people will have moved on to that.
I had an Argonian battle mage for a while that became a fairly famous bounty hunter in Whiterun. He had to leave because the Companions didn't like him freelancing and he didn't want to join them for various reasons. He ended up leaving after a fight in the Bannered Mare and left for another hold... only to get run out of that town after a murder was pinned on him.
I don't think I have his save file anymore though.
The folks at the Bethesda forums are slow. Hopefully here the RP will last and bear fruit! I usually RP females at times, like the tom-boyish arm-wrestle and wins Moon-born Bounty Huntress. But I'll probably add two guys this time around.
And lets begin the votes! I am in favor of the Vigilants questline! I always killed them in the game, but some true interaction would be nice.
OH! I get it now. Thanks Darkness
Sorry for the double-post, I wanted to add another one! I think maybe I need to contact the mods because I'm not sure if this should be spoiler section or not.
NO DRAGONS
I don't know about you, but I'm just not ready for dragons in my games yet. I want to get really good and experienced first. Maybe I'll someday do a game with dragons flying around, but for my current characters, the idea is terrifying! Especially for DiD types.
I actually implemented this idea naturally during my very first game with Blade 'n' Bone, my first Nordic fighter. How do you create a dragon free game? Easy. don't speak to the Jarls who demand to know about them! Don't follow any text that mentions dragons. If I see an NPC wanting to know about them, I usually just back out of the conversation as soon as I can.
Yes, this limits the game, because I can't buy any houses yet, and my characters probably do wind up missing out on some very cool stuff. But I don't want dragons! I'm a wimp and I dont' want 'em. Not yet.
They make for some interesting fights when you do get them. I've got a video of a dragon plowing into the ground right on top of Kharjo! (Aravi's follower)
*shudders*
All of my games are dragon free (well, except for that fella who rescues my characters from the Imperials at the start of the game). Just do not finish the Bleak Falls Barrow quest for Farengar and your skies will always be friendly. Technically you can still do it. The dragons are triggered when you go back to Whiterun and give Farengar the dragonstone. You can do anything you want with any other Jarl. It is that one thing that starts it.
I found out because I went through the quest scripts when I made a mod that disables dragons. The only downside to this is that you can never get the Whiterun house, or Lydia as a follower. That is something I fixed in my mod, which allows you to give Farengar the stone, become thane, get Lydia, and be able to buy the house, without the main quest ever going farther and triggering the dragons.
Sooooo what you're saying SubRosa is I can get a house? Just not the Whiterun one? Or can I just not buy a house, period?
Using the mod I created you can buy Breezehome without dragons. Without mods you cannnot. But even without mods you can still become thane of any other hold and buy the house there without triggering the dragons.
Wait, is this about buying houses in the RP?
I agree with no dragons. I only played the main quest to get my trophies because a friend bragged he had more trophies than me. Other than that, four of my five characters are not dragonborn..
I have yet to finish the main quest. I was pretty close once from what I gather. I haven't touched the DB or the TG. I don't care for evil characters. I'll have to create throw away characters for those quests. Maybe DiD.
Cool that rocks, everyone. If this were 3 or 4 months ago I would have been crying spoiler! But that's a spoiler I don't mind getting.
King Coin: that's not a bad idea: making your evil character DiD. you might still wind up getting attached to 'em though. During character creation, perhaps you can choose your least favorite race, and don't spend any time making the character look to your liking.
My very first character Blade 'n' Bone was dead is dead. I knew he wouldn't last long, but I just wanted to learn the game a bit, get into the game for a little while and just see how things work. What I did with him (so I wouldn't get attached to him) is I used the default Nord face. No character creation at all!
He only lasted until 11/13/11. When he died, I did get a little upset, I pretty much always do.
So when do we get to roleplay?
DiD for my evil character might backfire on me like you pointed out. It will definitely make their life more intense and I might get too attached just because of that.
@Darkness Eternal: I don't think this is a thread like what you are thinking. It would be in the RP section if it was.
What's your least favorite race, Coin? Or do you have a least fave?
Probably orcs. I've never had an orc before. An orc thief or assassin? That's pretty funny.
I’m keeping my thief character (Allek the Breton) until he’s gone through his questlines, just so I can see what they’re about. He won’t be dead-is-dead because I don’t want to go back over ground that doesn’t interest me so much. Though the threat might actually make it interesting. Hmm…
The Boy made a bulked-up Nord character with a huge beard for his assassin. It’s hilarious. He’s having a blast.
Hey McBadgere cool stories. I like that name: Amie Durer! How cute. how old are your kids? My daugther's just turned 8 and is in first grade now. She has no idea what TES is, and I'm not about to tell her "mommy" plays these games. She just knows I plays Sims once in a while. She gets nightmares, though, so I don't think she's ready for TES.
One day I'll introduce her to TES, and i think I'll definitely start with Oblivion. It's more traditional fairy-talish and probalby willl be easier for her to understand and accept.
Girl is 13 grumblemuttersnassnfrassnstroppycow *Cough*...And Boy is 11...
We've had Oblivion since...September or October 2010...So however old they were then is when we let them play...There's nothing in the games that the kids can't handle...*Shrug*...The cartoons on The Cartoon Network and stuff are worse than Oblivion...And now we've got Skyrim too...
They're pretty good gamers RPG-wise...Bless them... ...
Have to remind the boy to not spend all his gold on useless enchanting or weapons, but he's good in a fight... ...
He was the first to do Orc or Khajiit in th'house... ...
Character idea: the Ysmir.
In a nutshell: Bruce Lee is a Dovahkiin, has high-end magic (including levitation).
Obviously would require mods/DLC, but the idea is your basic Kung Fu Wizard, updated for the Elder Scrolls.
The Greybeards-Blades rivalry even becomes a nice point of contention, much like rival schools of philosophy and martial arts trying to impress a single individual with their view.
The character archetype would not use armor, favoring wards and flesh-hardening spells for defense while wearing appropriate garments to maximize mobility. Favors a combination of hand-to-hand combat with cast-on-touch offensive spell-work, literally punching an enemy in the solar plexus with an electro-conductive fist of doom.
Uses Thu'um to control the battle-space and negate distance advantages of casters and archers. Fire Breath to damage/distract that guy waaaaaayyy over there, and Whirlwind Sprint to close distances quickly, plus Ice Form to shut down crowds with ease.
Against the Dovah, different tactics. Resilience spells plus levitation, using Thu'um offensively in aerial dragon-fighting (since in Tamriel, dog-fights occur on the ground). After forcing a landing of the enemy, a return to the above-mentioned tactics, with more emphasis on controlling the flow of battle and absorbing/avoiding/resisting enemy Shouts while using elemental breath attacks to take down the dragon.
May eventually pick up a war staff. Not some super-ornate, gem-affixed monstrosity good for looking impressive and not much else, but a bona-fide quarterstaff designed for combat. Solid oak, 5'6" to 7' tall (depends on character race height), with metal shod caps, wrapping, and reinforcing rings. Good for deflecting enemy swords, axes, maces, and hammers. Exceeds the reach of daggers and knives. Can be combined with time slowing and spun to knock arrows out of the sky. Perfect for breaking leg bones, denting armor, and bashing in the face of a dragon. Handy for conducting a mother-fetching cacat-ton of lightning from your fingertips into the Thalmoor Justicar that just won't die, or channeling the lightning from a Called Storm to replenish your own magic reserves.
Cool, thanks for sharing, Hammer. I agree, the time-slowing perk (whatever it's called) would definitely spice up a Bruce Lee sort of character, amongst lots of other things you mentioned.
Now all's we need is a Chuck Norris character!
Ah I see. Why is Chuck Norris always mentioned then, in connection with TES? It's almost like a inside joke or something.
There is a time-slowing perk, too..I think it's one of the block perks I think. But a shout would certainly be effective, too.
Good to know.
This isn't really a roleplay idea, it's more of an idea for strategy, but I don't feel like starting an entirely new thread. This idea is going to be called Using your Follower to limit Leveling Speed.
Um...so although I don't have any major problems with the way Skyrim levels up, there are times I find myself alarmed how much of a railroad it is. Know what I mean? The game levels up, no matter what, as long as you participate in a number of activities. there are no Major or Minor skills to play with, like we had in Oblivion. Here's a for-instance...
In Oblivion, I used to place Major skills that didn't get used as often to slow this sort of leveling down. The reason I did this, my main peeve with this game, started with all the glass, ebony, and daedric wearing bandits that eventually showed up once my character got leveling into the teens. I was also annoyed by all the advanced creatures that entered the game: minotaurs, spriggan, land dreughs (etc) started to show up EVERYWHERE, when the previous week they were nowhere to be seen. I didn't have a problem with these creatures, what bothered me was how frequently they started showing up.
This totally broke the game for me. It didn't make any sense. It was as if all these additional creatures and high-rolling bandits were hiding off behind a curtain somewhere, and now they're on stage, only because my character hit a magic level number. It would make more sense if the game eased-in a few of these extra enemies here and there. Whatever though...
I was new to Oblivion at the time. I think I had only been playing 2 or 3 months. But once the game (Renee Gade I's game) started leveling into the teens, I coudn't take it anymore, and put Oblivion aside for months, until I learned about the "Minors for Majors" idea, which artificially slows leveling down in vanilla games.
Now in Skyrim, we don't have Major and Minor skills to mess with. If we participate in the game, therefore, the majority of activities will keep us leveling up. Well here's the thing. I'm not in a hurry to level up! I don't mind seeing my character grow over a longer period of time.
So what can be done about this? Again, I'm on PS3, which means no mods!
Answer: get a follower! Let him or her take a fair share of the workload!
As Crystal Beth's current follower Belrand gets his rocks off, rushing into battle, he winds up taking more and more of the enemies head-on. Beth tends to hang back, summoning a fire elemental, perhaps, and only getting involved in actual combat when it's safe to do so, or if Belrand actually needs her help. This winds up slowing her leveling significantly, if I want it to.
Besides, I think I read at UESP that NPC followers are only good for a certain amount of time. I think Belrand is useful until Beth's game gets to about Level 40. After that, he won't be strong enough to keep up with the game. Since Beth is currently Level 18, this means she'll be able to keep effectively Belrand as a partner for a very long time.
I was thinking about this same thing yesterday when I was playing Babd. She helped Faendal trick Camilla into giving Sven the cold shoulder. In recompense, she insisted that Faendal help her clear out Embershard Mine, since she had a bounty for the bandit leader there. He was pretty useful, and killed one bandit that Babd did not even see.
Most of the NPC followers are capped at level 40. I think there is a bug where some, like Lydia, never increase levels at all, making them pretty useless rather quick. But I have not found firm documentation on that.
Claire's assistant Brel did pretty good until Claire's game started to near Level 30. Then there was a battle in which Brelyna wound up getting killed permanently. I looked it up on UESP and it says this for Brel's "level"
PC×1 (range=6-30)
which means she's good until about Level 30, huh?
30? Wow, that is pretty low, even for the other followers. No surprise she did not last.
It is too bad you cannot afford a gaming PC. Then you would be able to use mods that improve the followers.
Here’s an idea that I’m using with a couple of characters. They have dragons in their games, but they are not the Dragonborn. We do this by forgetting about being summoned by the Greybeards and pretty much ignoring when the souls get absorbed. This means fighting dragons without using any Shouts. It really helps me keep the focus on spells, because a lot of times as Jensa informed me, “There’s a Shout for that.”
nice idea, Grits!
and there you guys go with your computer teasing again. Youse guys.
I dont know about you guys, but I'm thinking about starting a sort of Vigilant of Stendarr type thing. I want to hunt down every last Daedra there is. Plus my character is a descendant of Talos so he kind of takes the role of his ancsetor
Sounds fun, Taaron. Are you on PC or a console?
A fun idea I tried a few times was being a bender like from ATLA and LoK. Fire bending is obviously the easiest since you start out with the flames spell (skyrim) then as you become a better bender you can do lightning and then as a master bender you can breathe fire (shout) like a dragon. Water bender uses ice spells and the shout. I havent really figured out a way to do earth bending (im on the xbox but im sure you could make some cool spells through modding on the pc). However the earth bending one I did make was focused on mining and farming. Air is possibly the funnest, you use unrelenting force, whirlwind sprint and telekinesis if you are around water you can use ice spells (cooling the air to freeze the water). An air bender is a really good thief class but i like playing it as a monk to stick to the idea behind air bending.
If you are a water bender you can also learn blood bending once you become a master, this adds a ton of spells for your disposal. You can use calm, turn, raising, etc. to control your enemies and/or friends. You can also do animal spells and shouts to simulate controlling them. Paralyze also fits in well with this.
Finally, Energy bending. This relies on drain spells mostly, plus restoration spells. At low levels I have found this one hard to play as, but once you start increasing your level you are unstoppable. This is also the class that I used the transmute spell since you are controlling the ores on a molecular level lol.
Dont forget to use weapons that go with your bending style -
Fire - 1 or 2 swords (preferably scimitars which you can find on the pirate ship by solitude), unarmed
Water - in the older games I would have said spear but in skyrim use either 1 sword or a staff that does ice attacks
air - staff (i havent found a good one yet), bows work if you are good with them (use bending to guide the arrows), hand-to-hand
earth - 1 sword, mace or unarmed
Energy - unarmed/magic only
I have some other ideas but I will save those for another day
Rowan lost a follower when a summoned flame atronach exploded next to him in a corridor. It may have been her atronach, I couldn’t tell. They were fighting a bunch of mages, and it had turned into a real mess. I’ve also seen Belrand go to his knees in the middle of a fire and then fall over. I think that enough damage after they take a knee will be the end of them. It’s a good idea to keep them supplied with healing potions.
I like the way you worked Shouts into your bending, trustinlies. In another thread we talked about using Shouts as spells for non-Dovahkiins who live in a world with dragons, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. That would really fill in some gaps in Skyrim’s spell inventory.
Oh, I see now. Cool thanks.
xx
So, I just found out that you can travel by boat in skyrim (sorta like the carriages) this adds a cool little potential RP aspect
It is something added in Dawnguard. I think there is a boat service between the coastal cities like the carriage service in the vanilla game. So you probably have to talk to an NPC and pay them.
SubRosa is right, you talk to the ferryman and pay him if you want a ride.
The ferries have opened up whole new areas for Niv’s light but fragile fingers.

Hi there everyone I'm sorry for reviving what seems like a dead thread, but after reading I was truly inspired and began writing my own story, and thought that I would share it here.
There it is sorry for the large amounts of text, and some spelling and punctuation mistakes it was originally written on page then transfered here via a cellphone. So somethings may be improperly spelled. I hope you all enjoyed the background story of Aztien the mage. Any constructive criticism is welcomed and appreciated. Thank you
Now after quickly rereading this post I decided a short description of what I plan on achieving in this playthrough was in order. I plan on hp as my magika through use of the and dualcasting Illusion and Destruction magic to create effects similar to those of the blood mage in dragon ages. Also in this playthrough I plan on evolving some sort of split personality desorder that begins to take over as I delve deeper into to the knowledge of blood magic. Where there are two sides of me one only yearning for knowledge and the other only yearning for power and maybe a little aspect of the vampire within me yearning to feed and destroy which may also enhance my "blood mage" personality. I plan on also making this effect how I quest giving my character the desire to try and control his vampirism by doing the and maybe only take on evil quest lines while the blood mage is in control or good quest depending on if my true self is in control. This will be varied on times of day or how much blood magic I've used.
Hello Lord! From where do you hail?
First, you never ever have to apologize for large amounts of text or reviving a 'dead' thread. These threads aren't really dead (as long as they're on the front page, anyways), it's just really slow here.
And wow .... you wrote all that on a CELL PHONE? That's amazing. I am glad you've decided to join us here at Chorrol. It's a small crew of folks here, as you may have noticed; more of a hamlet than a city. Are you familiar with Bethsoft's forums? That is what I would consider a city.
I am also taking on Dawnguard (finally) with a crusader, who of course is more interested in being a vampire hunter. Anyways, glad to meet you, and I look forward to more from Aztien.
Well I'll need to extensively use the equilibrium spell to turn my hp into magika but there is really no true way to be a full on blood mage since I am on Xbox, and no way to mod this is just the best I could come up with.
Yea its a new spell if I understand correctly. I actually have yet to obtain it, and havemt played Skyrim in som time now, but I saw the new dawnguard content and read a lot of people's rp and was inspired to start my own. Then after reading more into dawnguard and such I decided it was perfect for Aztien my old Oblivion character
Here's a link to the spell from uesp. (Note: page contains spoilers to other alteration spells open at own risk)
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Equilibrium
Oh I also forgot to mention there is true blood magic as well (new dlc content)
I have one question though for you guys, maybe someone here would have the answer. I am planning on creating a journal for my character that I could document his play through or the play throughs of other character I create in the future. I want to have his backstory there and then journal entries that everyone of the TES community could follow if they should choose. Would you guys happen to know a good place to do this?
Sounds like a great start, Lord Aztien! Welcome to Chorrol! I’m looking forward to reading your adventures.
I’ve never found that Equilibrium spell. It sounds like something I would like to try, since it could drain your health until you die, right? I have an idea for a half-dead character inspired by Mason’s http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/group/character-building/forum/topics/character-build-the-revenant. I’m thinking that restorative magic and potions wouldn’t work on him, so it would be neat to incorporate swapping life force for magic. I don’t know anything about the blood mages, so this is very interesting to me. I have an Oblivion character who would love the Equilibrium spell (at least until he killed himself with it ).
I really like this forum btw
How ever i wanted to know somthing about the bandit class. I love the idea and im a
Khajit bandit, problem is that when im walking the roads and looking
For people to rob that i dont see any! Maybe a bard but that is maybe every 2 hours that i walk around. Plz give me some tips (im using a xbox btw)
Greetings people.
I am M'naris (khajit) and this is my story.
When i was still a little whelp i was kidnapped by bandits in the night and brought to Cyrodil. There i learned that the khajit who raised me for 16 years were not my real parents but followers of the dark brotherhood who killed my real parents. The khajit who kidnapped me turned out to be my uncle J'zir. He teached me everything i needed to know to take revange on the dark brotherhood. After 6 years of training i wiped out the DBH in cyrodil (i thought) and returned to my uncles hide out. When i arived home i saw my uncle laying down in a pool of blood. Tears rolled down over my face when i walked to my uncle. I saw that he was still alive but in a bad shape. My uncle told me that a woman named astrid broke in and killed every one inside. I looked around and saw all the bodys of friends and family. I fell down on my knees crying and praying to akatosh that my uncle would survive. My uncle slaped me in the face and told me to look for some one named avor in skyrim. His hand layed down on y shoulder and looked me in the eyes and said: go now and kill astrid and avange me. He looked up to the roof and said: she stole my blade who was in my family for years "the blade of woe" i told him that i would go to cyridil and do as he asked me to. He looked at me and the light in his eyes faded when he died. I cried and said goodbye and prayed that akatosh would take mercy on his soul.
I arived at the border of skyrim where i met avor. He told me that astrid leads the DBH in skyrim. When we walked to avors home in skyrim we met some stormcloacks and i learned everything about the war in skyrim. When we were near avors house some one called bormis wanted to see me. I told him that i would meet whit him the next day and me and avor went home. At avors home i learned about skyrim and it landscape and how to survive. Avors teatched me the basic skills of a bandit and how to hunt and survive. After a few months a courier gave me a letter from the stormcloacks. They said that the war has really begun and asked me to join the attack on helghen.
6 months later the stormcloacks were ready go attack when i joined them at the border to attack helghen, when out of nowhere 50 imperial soldiers attacked us and bound us. We were putted in a cariage about to be executed. At helghen a dragon attacked and burned down everything. Me and ralof escaped and ran to riverwood. In the night i raided the town and killed every one but ralof was long gone. I went back to avors house but when i arived i saw him death. Pierced whit 5 arrows and a piece of paper whit a black hand on it.
From this day on i am looking for the dark brotherhood in skyrim whit no succes. Im raiding mostly fords becaus the roads of skyrim are mostle deserted. Im looking for people who want to hep me but i have no luck. I hope that i find some clues about the dark brotherhood soon so i can kill astrid and claim my uncles blade back.
I am M'naris 33 year old khajit looking for revange and to destroy the dark brotherhood!
If some one could give me some tips for being a bandit becaus i cant find travelibg people often well almost never D: im on a xbox so if some one could help me whit this part i can have even better adventures thx
An assassin of assassins? Good luck in your quest. Taking from other bandits is a good way to make money. They have the goods all gathered in one place for you.
Another hideout with bandit clan possibilities is Nilheim. I'm putting the rest in spolier tags in case anyone doesn't want to know.
Heyo, so I'm new here, and I love the Elder Scrolls. This is a sort of backstory I've written up for a character I've been thinking about playing. Was reading some Shakespeare recently and decided to go for a sort of tragic path. Could post more info on him if anyone's interested. And sorry for so much text.
In his elder age Audeius is beginning to look ahead at his time of death. He doesn’t feel ready to die, as he hasn’t settled down with a wife and has spent most of his life as a soldier and mercenary. He is a staunch supporter of the Imperials, and openly despises Stormcloaks and Stormcloak supporters. Upon learning that he is the Dragonborn so late in his life, he feels reinvigorated to start adventuring again. He is initially imprisoned by the Imperials for accidently shooting a Legionnaire while hunting, and is unfortunately put together with the Stormcloak prisoners at the beginning of the game. After much adventuring and faithful service to the Imperial Legion (helping them win the civil war), Audeius finally marries Camilla Valerius. Tragedy strikes one night though, as Audeius savagely beats Camilla to death in a blind drunken rage. Imprisoned for his crime, Audeius is overcome with grief and rage, and forsakes the Eight Divines for his self-inflicted misfortune. He leaves the comforts of home to dwell in the wilderness and seek forbidden knowledge to possibly return Camilla to him. He learns necromancy, and begins to worship the Daedra, or more specifically Molag Bal. Audeius becomes a master of resurrecting dark minions, and is further drawn to the Volkihar Vampire Clan to become a vampire lord. Audeius relishes his new-found power and mercilessly slays and feeds upon innocents. He gains a reputation all across Skyrim as an honorable Imperial turned evil incarnate. Confident in his vast power, Audeius assaults Solitude, the former place of authority and comfort to him, and lays siege to Castle Dour and the Blue Palace. After much bloodshed, he is finally slain by his former fellow Legionnaires. Audeius’ body is burned and he is written into the history books as the one who prevented the end of the world, only to himself fall into darkness and become Skyrim’s greatest threat.
Awesome, Noran, welcome to our humble forum! I know over at Bethesda's forums they give out fishy sticks, I have no idea what we do at Chorrol. Have some cake, I guess.
That's some detailed backstory there. I myself am pretty weak on backstory, I usually just snowball a bunch of ideas together, inspired from real-life situations probably just as much as in-game ones. But I don't know much about lore like I should. Anyways, welcome here. Glad you have joined us.
Hi Noral, welcome aboard!
I had an idea for a bandit assassin. The only way he can get in to any city is by sneaking in. If he goes to jail he must escape and not sleep his time off. He hangs out in conquered bandit camps/hunter camps. He raids travelers and avoids guard patrols. He can have a dog and a follower BUT the follower cannot be living in a walled city. He has no mercy and can join the Dark Brotherhood. He will have perks in sneak, archery, one handed, and light armor. He can smith as well as long as the forge is not within a city. He cannot have any armor more advanced than scaled armor. He cannot talk to any civilians. His race can be an Argonian, Nord, or an Orc. He cannot marry. I think this is a pretty cool character and I make it more real by taking off HUD, eating at least twice per day, and using the paper map
Yah, that is very cool, Willster! One of these days I am going to try my bandit idea (in the OP) out. But right now I have 4 games extant. I don't wanna introduce anything new.
Sorry, we're not hiring right now! Come back next season!
That sounds fun, Willster. There are enough settlements with guards but no walls to make it work.
This one was actually created by Tom Francis from PCGamer but I felt it would be okay to share it here.

The Illusionist
The idea is that, in Skyrim a mage is an unstoppable storm of destruction. In real life, a mage is just an illusionist: they can't do much except trick you. Since Skyrim has a school of magick comprised entirely of illusions the illusionist will have to stick to that, he/she can't wear any armour, hold any weapons, cast any non-illusion spells, or even attack anyone directly - not even with a punch (Of course you can use punches to break stuff like the web in Bleak Falls Barrow). Recommended race is Altmer and it is also recommended to travel with a follower/mercenary. Oh and he/she can't use any enchantments other than "Fortify Illusion".
Good idea, PhoenixGamer!
I’ve tried two Illusionist/no weapons characters, but both used other magic schools as well.
Achille (Breton) couldn’t do any direct damage. He dealt with everything including dragons using Illusion, Conjuration, and his follower. It was a lot of fun.
I also tried a pacifist character, Pax the Benevolent (Altmer, former Thalmor agent). He could not kill anything at all, nor would he travel with a follower who might kill something. Calm, Fear, Turn Undead, and Healing were his only tricks. Also running away. I was surprised by how many quests could be completed without killing anything. The big one that couldn’t was Bleak Falls Barrow, and so he never released the dragons.

The Survior
The survior is a female nord who is a gifted mage and healer.
Nero's Journal
My Legacy
My name is Nero, and I was born in a small village in the woods north of Falkreath. We lived on a hill overlooking the lake. The land here was bountiful and water abundant, it was paradise. My mother was a Nord, who's occupation was the village doctor and she was highly religious. She offered blessings to the men as they left on the hunt, and provided aid to those who needed it. My father was a Breton who thought himself an Artisan. Oh the things he could craft! Anything you desired, from potions, to arrows, to houses he could craft it all. They worked hard and their love was strong and so came me and my brothers.
My Childhood
Mother allways said I was a handfull. According to her i was allways in some sort of trouble. But then again how could I not be? I enjoyed helping her in the medical tent. Medicine was an excellent study and I thought I was rather good at it. At night father would read to me. I became obsessed with the legends. I told him one day that I would be a Dragon Priest, that I would one day be friends with a Daedra. The Prince of Madness allways made me laugh.
A Member of Society
As I grew I gained more knowlage. I took lessons from the village scholar and took up magic. He taught me how to make medicines, how to heal people magically, how conjure a friend when I was lonely. I learned how to harness the energy of the Land. I could make fire, I could make snow. I allso began to study religion. My people allways celebrated Dibella, for we found beauty in the Land and art in it's features. I finnaly found a role in my home, I became the village priest.
Visitors
Our isolation did not last for long, soon strange men came from the south. They wore strange clothing of red and leather. They spoke of unity, of peace. We belived them. Our little village signed a treaty with the Empire. We would trade with them and live amongst them. Slowly we began to enter-marry, and slowly our cultures merged. Gone was our little village, and slowly the Town of Lakeview took shape.
The Fall
But this peace would not last. The people of the north became angered with those of the south. Freedom they cried! New rule the pleaded! And so the war began. My Father and brothers were appointed for service under the Empire. They fought bravely, but sadly they were not strong enough. Why did they have to die? Why? I hated this war. I hated these people. They alone killed my family. Me and my mother survived and we tried to cope the best we could, but mother was frail. She died that year. I was now alone. As the war progressed I began to discover that not all legends are just legends. The dragons rose. "And the Scrolls fortold, of the black wings in the cold, that when brother wage war come unfold. Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound, with a hunger to swallow the world." More and more reports of dragons attacks showed up as the war drew on.
Up in Flames
The dragon attacked. It burned everything. I was the only survivor. No Imperials, no loved ones, no friends, just me alone. I lived in one of the last standing houses in the rubble. Eventally the men of the north found me and took me. I was their slave. One of thier prizes of war. I was beaten, I was defiled, and I was starved. As we attempted to cross the border we were stopped by Imperial guards. Finnaly a Hope! But they did not know me, nor of Lakeview, so they did not save me. I was to be killed for crimes that the people who took me did. Seconds before I was supposed to die is when a blessing of Dibella shown down. A dragon attacked. It acctually aided in my escape!
A New Triumph
After I recovered from the escape I met an Imperial by the name of Hadvar. He helped me, he told me where to go to find shelter, and he told me of the College. I journed there and and learned of new magic. Of ancient and new. I took private lessons and began to learn a forgotten art. I learned how to speak in dragon. I learned how to shout. The professor was astonished on how quickly I learned so he sent me to a fortess on a high mountain. There is where my life changed. There is where I discovered my purpose. I was the unite the land, I was to stop the dragons. And then maybe, just maybe, I could find peace again and reestablish my home an my birthground. I could rebuild...
Wow, now that's backstory! I'm actually speechless, for once. Guess that's a good thing!
Thanks I think my story works because it blend my own story with that of the game
Excellent story of Nero. The World Eater did some good attacking Helgen didn't he? I like how she learned of her Voice while at the College and then went to High Hrothgar. Good blend of game and original bits.
Haha tried to think of a way to mix in some dlc, like eventually after she reunites skyrim she returns to the ruins of lakeview and build a grand mansion apon the site
Working on a sperate character (Nero's brother). He wont be dragon born, but involved in the war. Whatcha think?
Due to inaccuracies to Lore and obnoxious english i chose to rewrite the story of nero
The Story of Nero
4E 160
It is the year of my birth. I hail from a small hunting and farming village positioned on a hill overlooking Lake Ilinalta. The land was bountiful and life was abundant. It was our own little paradise, we had everything that we could ever need. Crops came in large and healthy every year and the elk were always fertile. Our village worshiped Lady Dibella, for the land represented her beauty. My mother was a native to Skyrim and a healer, she offered blessings of Dibella to the huntsman and healed their wounds when they returned. My father was the leader of our little settlement. He was a Breton who arrived in Skyrim to escape the pressures of the Aldmeri Dominion to seize High Rock.
He was a diplomat. He could talk anyone into doing anything.
4E 165
As a little girl I became interested in the forest. Mother told me that the trees speak to the people. That Lady Dibella guided us through them. Every afternoon I would wander into the woods and rest under the large oak. I became interested in archery after watching a huntsman one day. I bet one day I could out shoot him. With bow in one hand and an arrow in the other I began to practice. But with all of this learning and new experience I was only but a five year old. I loved the old legends, and I found a certain peace within books. I swear that one day I would walk amongst the Dragon Priest and be friends with a Daedra.
4E 168
Strange men started to appear in our village. They wore clothes of cloth and hide. Father spoke to them, asked them why they have come. They had big scary swords. The head of their convoy spoke,”By royal decree of Emperor Tidus Mide II we are to travel the lands of Skyrim and inform it's citizens of the recent induction of Skyrim into the Empire. Nothing will change, the only thing we ask for in return is land to settle. We will protect you and your people with the full force of our military. Do you agree?” Father signed the treaty. And so began a new chapter of our little village. Trade flourished, farms grew and eventually the village formed into a town. Lakeview we called it. Soon families started to marry into each other, our cultures merged.
4E 170
I'm finally old enough to make my own decisions, finally ten. But it seems as the days passed father grew more and more concerned. He says he spoke with the Imperial Ambassador. Things do not look good he says, war is at our doorstep. The Aldmeri Dominion want control of Tamriel, and they'll do anything to achieve it.
4E 176
We are in the midst of the Great War. The Aldmeri have invaded Cyrodill and the Empire is on the brink of collapse. All able bodied men were forced to enlist in the Imperial Army. After eight years of being members of the Empire, we wanted to help. We wanted to protect our people, the Empire's people. My father was one of the enlisted.
4E 180
Nine years. Nine long years of war. After four years of service my father returned. The war was over. The Aldemri had won. Instead of wiping through and killing everyone they forced the Empire to make decrees to fit the Dominion's desires, including the ban of the worship of Talos. This of course infuriated the northern nords.
4E 183
As the civil war of Skyrim raged over the land we began to discover that not all legends are just that. The ancient prophecy was fulfilled.”Ahrk fin Kel lost prodah, do ved viing ko fin krah, Tol fod zeymah win kein meyz fundein! Alduin, feyn do jun, kruziik vokun staadnau, Voth aan bahlok wah diivon fin lein!”
The dragons walked the earth again. They start to attack towns and villages all across the land. My brothers were sent off to join the war, as was my father.
4E 197
We receive the news today, my father and brothers would not be returning. They had been killed in battle. I think it hit mother the hardest. She was old, she was sick. She died soon after. I was on my own. I had no husband, I had no family left. I continued to live in the house, it used to be full of life and warmth but now it was all but cold and empty. What a great place to spend my thirty-seventh birthday, all alone and cold! Later that year the dragon's came. They burned the whole city to the ground, everyone I knew had been killed. Only half of our house remained unburned by the tormenting fire of the dragon.
4E 200
They found me, the nords of the north. They punished me for being half-blood. Said I wasn't fit to live in Skyrim. They took me as their prisoner, as their slave. We attempted to cross the border into Cyrodill and to kill the Emperor. We were captured at the border and transported to Helgen for execution. The soldiers had not heard of Lakeview so therefore, did not know that I was a survivor.
It was there at Helgen where I saw Dibella. She saved my life. She summoned the dragon to attack that would give me a chance to escape.
4E 201
After the escape I stayed in Riverwood for a while with one of the soldiers who helped me escape the Helgen attack. He told me of the College of Winterhold. I was no mage, but I had some sense of Restoration magic that I learned from my mother. He told me that someone there could tell me what was going on. I traveled far but finally reached the College. I spoke to the archmage, and it was there where it happened. Lady Dibella was speaking to me, I could feel here power coursing through me, and then she spoke, “My child you are special. You have always been a devout follower, so in return for this I will tell you your future. My child you are destined to unite the Empire. You alone will save this land. You will speak the ancient language. You will master the dragons. Fus Ro Da, these are the ancient words of power. You will use this in your journey, you need only say the words and your heart will do the rest. GO dragonborn. Go bring honor to my name.”
This is my character bio:
My name is Vyluun Fyr. At a young age I discovered my abilities over the school of conjuration, accidentally summoning a flame atronach that burned down a nearby forest before returning to oblivion. I was born in a village called Vvardenyl on the border of Skyrim and Morrowindn. When I was 11, the Imperial Legion attempted to seize control of my village for fear of an uprising of the local mages. My people resisted, so the Legion sent the Aldmeri Dominion to deal with us. There were only four of them, but they managed to slaughter every last Dunmer in Vvardenyl. All except me, for I conjured a flame atronach that briefly sent me to the plane of oblivion to shield me from the altmer. When I returned, I went searching for my mother fearing the worst. I did not find her, only her pendant that my father gave to her. I swore revenge on the empire, promising to destroy every last one of those that were loyal to the altmer. And so I trained. Spending weeks on end with no sleep studying the art of conjuration in the ruins of the shrine of Azura. I learned the skill of archery in order to hunt and survive. I also tampered with destruction, illusion, and restoration magic. I found them astonishingly interesting in concept, and started focussing on them aswell as conjuration. 11 years have passed sense the massacre of my village. 11 years of grueling days of constant practice of magicka. Now i am ready to hunt down the aldmeri dominion, and show no mercy for them.
Major skills- conjuration, illusion, destruction
Minor skills-alteration, heavy armor, restoration, enchanting
Well I started a new character randomly. I wanted to make a 'nobility' character that wore heavy plate armor, fought with one sword and no shield, and rode a horse. They would like all things scholarly, and maybe do some conjuration. They would use a crossbow for ranged attacks. No sneaking.
This was doomed from the start.
http://i.imgur.com/DIpYhIg.jpg She is hardly nobility, she sells all the books that she bothers to pick up, she hates the iron armor she's wearing, and you can see her bow quiver over her shoulder. The only thing that has gone right is the sword, but she's dying to get her free hand on something else... maybe some magic, maybe a shield.
I don't know if I'm going to continue her or not. She plays a lot like Aravi does. Maybe I'll just set her aside.
She's pretty! In a "Man, dirt is awesome" kind of way
I tried to make a character as a vampire instead of a werewolf.
I couldn't take it! I joined the companions and became a werewolf, and I dont want to cure it to become a vampire again!
And it's horrible, because
I have a strange obsession with unlocking all of the achievements on my elder scrolls and fallout games, so If I don't unlock that achievement, in about 80 years I'll be turning in my grave!
My newest charcter (the Ice Witch) is unlike any other I've created so far. She's taken over Anise's cabin, and the feel of her game is very laid-back and calming. Very unlike Haaf-Mersey with his constant roaming around. Mycharonna went on an ingredient-hunting walk today and wound up roasting some slaughterfish! ..which is something none of my others have done so far... this might sound boring, to not be doing any quests and to just kinda be moseying around, but I'm surprisingly hooked into her world! "Immersed" is the word that's often (over)used.
But this is what I mean. you approach the game a different way, and you might be surprised at what comes up.
Well, one of my characters(Kraven) does work like wood chopping and cooking and etc. And yes, farming. I like to roleplay a lot, and he does all the wood chopping on weekdays
But then again, he has no true faction or allegiance . . .he's certainly no superstar like Aravi. He was once, but now in Skyrim I have him going back to his pre-Morrowind days of farming and picking flowers and compassion. He believes in the whole "Honest pay for honest work" thing. He does mercenary work for the companions, don't get me wrong. He's also a warrior, but in his free life he settled down a bit.
I like Skyrim's more simple things, and Hearthfire certainly adds that. Like Lady Saga said, most people of the time worked such dirty jobs. But the nobility simply fatted themselves with good food or had their servants do their work while they got the income through birthright and other means that don't relate at all to hard labor. It all depends on our characters though. I have some that wouldn't dare touch a vegetable in the ground or chop wood simply because they don't have to. Their noble status simply keeps them from doing such things while my more humble characters who had a commoner's life and low-class status continue to do so not only because of desire but also because that's the only thing they've ever known.
Sure, killing bandits, saving damsels in distress and chopping up monsters is a partime job. But I don't always like to picture them as the ultimate heroes. That's why none of them have done the main questline. Personally, I don't like much of the prophesized hero that saved the world, not in the sense that my well-developed characters would become them. I leave that for other random characters I just make and leave them for the game and not the lore behind them. But that's just me.
Yes, Kraven. I want to start reading fanfics again, I enjoyed the tale of your slave in Morrowind a few months back. So far behind. Sigh.
Hearthfire is awesome, I agree. YEah, it's a little shallow in certain ways, but it still adds so much, so many little things here and there that get noticed slowly as our characters evolve. HF also makes me feel like my Crusader is 'dug in' to his new environment, a truely rural, land-owning lord or something.
Heh, I am nearly done with it. Fifteen or so chapters and I am finished! *wiped forehead*.
Lucky. I don't have Heartfire yet. I heard it will be $2.50 the first week when it comes out this month for the PS3. I will definetly buy it only because I wanted a home in Falkreath . . .and the new ingrediets and food!
He, I was spoiled about the DLC before I even have it. I was spoiled by Dawnguard a few days before the release through leaks, haha. I know just about everything about it.
Basically one of my favorite things to do after I completely conquer every aspect of RPG's like Fallout or ES is to roleplay a commoner.
Go hunting, find a dumpy place to live, go to work, hit local clubs, maybe an odd quest here and there as long as it doesn't seem like something impossible for an average person to do (no powerful artifact quests, or deep advancement into any guild).
I know I'm a really boring person.
For those interested, http://i.imgur.com/KJZGMa0.jpg She's light armor, heavy shield, blade, and conjuration. A little bit of bow too.
She's not quite a peasant, but she does mining and chopping. She's been smithing things and selling them. Does the occasional bounty and random Companions quest. Her morals are a little looser, so it wouldn't surprise me if she joined the Thieves guild. I don't see her being an assassin or a vampire yet, but perhaps I'll be surprised.
That is cool, Coin. I am glad Olivia is not a dud.
Mycharonna the Ice Witch was tempted to start the very beginning of Thieves guild (stealing that ring from the lizardman) after listening to a very persuasive pitch from Brynolff about how "she's never earned an honest Septiim in her life". ....but she botched the job, and wound up a hunted woman for many hours. She eventually landed in jail!
No more TG for Mycharonna, I don't think.
KC, I’m glad Olivia is still with you. It sounds like she might get into some things that Aravi wouldn’t touch, which could be fun.
Here’s another idea that I’ve tried. As soon as I saw that you could give your character two blind eyes I knew I would eventually make a zombie character. Backstory inspired by Olen’s short story found http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4367 (the character would be the wife in Olen’s story), and “build” inspired by Mason’s Revenant found http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/group/character-building/forum/topics/character-build-the-revenant.
A note because this thread is in the non-spoiler section: There are mentions of specific items and places here. If you don’t want to know for example that undead wearing a certain armor type can be found at X location or that a shield named Y exists, you should skip this. There are no quest spoilers.
http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h361/grits29/Skyrim/Njal%20the%20Unliving/NjaltheUnliving_zps2b55d22b.jpg
The idea: Njal the warrior is cut down on the field of battle. Sovengarde calls him home. But no! He awakens in his own tomb when draugr attack during his resurrection. Shock energy makes the necromancer’s spell go awry (Ooh, like Frankenstein). He sates his undying hunger on his dear wife’s soft flesh. She sold his armor and weapons to pay the necromancer, so he finds some gear in the tomb and shuffles out into daylight. His undeath begins.
The skills: Heavy Armor, One-handed, Block, Enchanting, Conjuration for raising dead only, some perks in Speech. A note about Speech: this one might seem odd, but it’s the opposite of the game’s description of the skill. Merchants will trade any goods with Njal just to get his terrifying corpse-breath out of their faces.
The gear: Here's a http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h361/grits29/Skyrim/Njal%20the%20Unliving/GearedUp_zpsc4efa12d.jpg. Ancient Nord armor (self-enchanted with regenerate health and stamina if you like), Targe of the Blooded, Helm of Yngol, Ring of Namira. He wields the war axe Blood Feeder, self-enchanted with Absorb Health (and Absorb Stamina when his enchanting hits the top). This is important because of the following…
The challenge (or why this is not just another fighter): Njal is undead, and so potions do not work for him. Neither do Restoration spells. Njal heals in battle only by absorbing health and stamina through his weapons and by feeding on fresh corpses (Ring of Namira). I used the Lord Stone to boost his AR and magic resistance, but the Lady Stone for regeneration would also be a good fit. Also Njal has no ranged attack. Remember his cloudy, dead eyes? He can’t see well enough to shoot. I put dragons in my zombie’s game, so he has to run when he encounters one.
Imaginary mods: Of course PC users can give their zombies a good start from the first minute, but I had to do some in-game work before I dropped Njal in his tomb and “started” his RP. Getting the Ring of Namira is quick and easy. Ancient Nord armor can be looted from the first dragon cultist you kill in Forelhost. Get the quest, kill one guy for his armor, then get the heck out! Pick up some extra draugr axes while you’re there. Keep making stronger versions of Blood Feeder to keep up with the world as Njal’s Enchanting improves. Targe of the Blooded is tricky to get at low levels, but possible. (Njal is played Dead-is-Dead, so I sweated that part quite a bit.) It looks awesome with the ancient Nord armor. Plus the extra bleeding damage is what this guy is all about. He is a blood-soaked savage. The Helm of Yngol provides a tomb-robber look as well as the frost resistance that a zombie should have. On a PC I would give my zombie weakness to fire and shock (because of the shock spell that helped to animate him in the first place) along with resistance to frost, poison, and disease. On consoles we can use enchantments.
The story: Of course every zombie’s will be different, but here is the abridged version of Njal’s. He remembered the events of his life, but not the feelings. He was drawn to people but he didn’t know why, and of course they were repelled by him. He took up residence in the abandoned house in Markarth. Eola followed him for some time. She liked the way he ate people. Eventually Njal realized that he didn’t have a soul. He went to the daedric princes hoping that one would have an extra for him. No joy. But he did collect some excellent junk, some of which he gave to Eola. It’s a shame he didn’t notice how hot she looked in the Savior’s Hide. Oh well. Njal’s greatest delight was raiding bandit enclaves. He would skulk about watching how they lived together until that nameless yearning got to be too much. Then he would slaughter and eat them. Njal now has all of the daedric artifacts but still no soul. He is semi-retired hoping that a future DLC will bring hope to his dead, dried-up heart.
That's a really cool idea Grits!
Something For You Role Player’s
Last night I took my female Redguard warrior on "A Daedra's Best Friend Quest" with that annoying dog Barbas nipping at my heels. After slaying the vampires at Haemar's Shame and speaking to Clavicus Vile, I proceeded to head toward the next objective. Freezing from the cold snow and weary from my battle with vampires, I decided to rest at Falkreath Stormcloak camp east of Helgen. (Having already decided to join the stormcloaks but haven’t yet started the rebellion quest line) I was greeted warmly and decided to rest for the night, sleeping in a tent on a pile of hay with that mangy hound Barbas as my pillow.
The following morning I awoke to depressed and despondent Stormcloak men and woman huddled around the camp fire. I walked through the still falling snow to the tent of Thorygg Sun-Killer who told me (roleplaying) that the imperials had cut off their supply wagons and they have had little to no food or weapon supply’s reach this camp in weeks. I was my duty to feed and re-supply these miserable stormcloaks.
I proceeded toward Orphan Rock my goal in mind was to slaughter the Necromages and pilfer their resources. Mind you I only left Orphan Rock with 4 tomatoes, a handful of gold, a few lock picks and a strength potion from the Hagraven’s chest, I decided to head toward Helgen for better luck. I arrived at Helgen and was greeted by three rampaging bandits who I shield bashed in the face and cut off one of their heads than ran around the ruined shell of Helgen collecting ale, wine, pots and pans and a few wooden bowls. I headed into the castle to kill more bandits and loot their weapons and armor. I left Helgen with lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes, rabbit legs, tankards, ale, wine, cheese, an arsenal of steel weaponry, three buckets (for the stormcloaks to s#^# in.) Feeling satisfied I headed back to the camp and proceeded to lay out their s#^# buckets, stuffed their barrel with food, tankards and dishes, laid out the pot and pans around the campfire stuffed with rabbit legs (one of the stormcloaks yelled at me saying “What Are ye doin”), stocked Thoygg’s chest with weaponry for the soldiers, and left 2,000 gold in the end table inside the map tent to aid their cause. Feeling satisfied I left with that filthy dog nipping at my heels.
That's a neat idea, Elderscrolls20. It would allow non-warrior types to contribute to the war effort, whichever side they chose. Also, welcome!
Thanks for the welcome.
Instead of destroying your well thought out characters through DEAD is DEAD try doing what I do.
If you die you lose 35% of your total gold. Say you have 15,000 gold one death means you lose 5,250 gold. Now you have 9,750 total gold. Die again you lose 35% of 9,750 which is 3,412 leaving you with 6,338 gold. You will value your life a lot more if your losing massive amounts of gold per death but it will also allow you to learn from your mistakes (as we do in life) and value your gaming life that much more.
If you’re an Argonian then leave your gold in a body of water. If you’re a religious Nord leave the gold at the Temple of Talos for a chance at redemption. No matter your background, char, history, race, ideals you can always find somewhere to leave your gold. Use your imagination you’ll be surprised what you can come up with on getting a second chance to learn from your mistakes and keep your character!
Also this playstyle keeps making money interesting. If you play on expert or master level like most of us do and not using potions and gimping out your characters every death will mean something and you’ll feel better about moving on than saying reload save and try again. You can even go as far to throw away your weapons armor and jewels along with the 35% of your gold if you wanna go at it a little more hardcore but without feeling bad about having to reload a save with no consequences to your death. I don’t know just my thoughts on not losing characters and losing the chance to see them grow and to have more experience with the characters you love.
That’s an interesting idea. In Oblivion I used to play that a death meant the character was left for dead, which I did by disposing of their inventory (except for gold and quest items, sigh. Oh, and not keys) in a respawning container. It would be even better since in Skyrim the gold can be removed from inventory. That would make me more comfortable trying Expert or even Master with a beloved character. The high level ones really need to be bumped up to keep fights fun, but I’m still scarred over losing Zuuri to a scavenger so soon after I increased her difficulty. Hmm…
Also being left for dead can have a major impact on a character’s path while death just ends it. That’s how one Oblivion character started down the road that took her to the Dark Brotherhood. Your method keeps the danger and consequences but allows for greater risk and growth, which to me are the best parts. You’ve given me something to think about, thank you!!
I haven't been able to do a DiD character. Even Olivia was killed once. She was supposed to be with Farkas and she got surrounded by draugr and I haven't a clue where Farkas was. Pissed me off, and I didn't want to create a new character.
So what kind of RULES do you guys use for your game? Like for instance I use
No Fast Travel
Remember to pack Bread, and drink for your travels
35% of total gold lost on death
and many many more.
If you wouldn't mind listing me some of your favorite or silly rules as well...I’m always looking for new ideas and would defiantly like to hear what you guys have to say!
This isn't a rule, but its a habit:
Whenever I see a sabre cat I don't kill it. I let it chase me around the map
And welcome to chorrol Elderscrolls20! I'm king of beasts, or KOB for short. can also be so be spelled KoB, but either way is fine.
Ya know what, KOB?
I found a http://media.tumblr.com/8357841457db4b11055a42936c17cdf5/tumblr_inline_mhgv3vWkZd1qz4rgp.gif for you.
Speaking of... We should get back on topic XD
Like many others, I use a no excessive gear rule which I started back in my Fallout 3 days. In that game a character could use one rifle/shotgun, one sidearm, and one melee weapon. They could pick up other weapons as loot, but I RPed that those were stashed away in a bag, possibly even disassembled, so could not be brought out and used. It really helps keep the game from feeling like Doom, and seem more like I am playing a role.
I had already been doing something similar in Oblivion, in that each character had their primary weapon and their armor/clothing. Anything they picked up was just loot to sell. In that game I never wanted to change out to a different weapon because the things I self-enchanted were better than anything I found in the game anyway. So there never was the temptation to use anything I found as loot. Plus I always went to an effort to make sure my character's gear all matched to look good. I could never allow a character to use something that would look bad after all!
Great thread y'all got goin' on here! [/endSouthernAccent] (No offense intended....)
In all seriousness, I think I may have to "borrow" some of the ideas here....
My mage character also wears fur when it is cold out, but he's just a poor old man! Speaking of my mage, here's his bio!
His name is Tristram Songsteel (Or Steelsong. I have a horrid memory XD), a former Breton merchant of repute throughout High Rock and Cyrodiil as a seller of swords.
He was well into his seventies when his eldest son grew tired of waiting for him to die. Hiring a band of of mercenaries, the eldest son had Tristram thrown into Skyrim to die and be taken care of. As the band entered Skyrim through the Cyrodiil border, the mercenaries had the misfortune of angering some Imperial border guards who slaughtered the mercs, and took Tristram prisoner.
By this time, Tristram was a broken man. His beloved family had betrayed him. All he had strove for was for naught; some Nord rebel named Ralof showed him some kindness, trying his awkward best to calm the melancholic Tristram.
When the cart stopped in a village Ralof explained was called Helgen, Tristram wanted to die. When the Imperial captain called him forward, Tristram knelt at the headsman's block and prayed to Mara. Just when Tristram closed his eyes, ready to meet the Gods, a dragon arrived.
Eyes wide and unbelieving, Tristram ran with Ralof, through the burning town of Helgen. It was than that Tristram believed his prayers had been answered. Mara had saved him! In Helgen's keep, Tristram also learned of the power buried deep within him. Magic flowed in his veins. For the first time, Tristram felt young again, like he had a purpose in life.
After escaping Helgen, Tristram received a vision from Mara telling him to spread the word of her love to all Skyrim. In exchange for doing her bidding, Mara would grant Tristram strength, stop his aging, and grant him magical powers. Tristram has accepted this offer.
Currently, Tristram has a horse he's named Mara's Grace (or just Gracie), and a dog he bought outside Markarth named Vigilance.
Role-playing Tristram means I must be a pacifist - I will not seek death, but if provoked, I will fight back - I must always wear an amulet of Mara, and must do "good" - helping people etc. This, plus the usual RPing restrictions/limits (eat 3x a day, sleep, etc.).
I'm also going to play Tristram as a Gandalf-style wizard with a staff (Once I find one!).
Another RP character concept I thought of was a Hedge-Mage or Hedge Wizard!
Rules:
1) No learning new magic - the spells you start with is all you get.
2) No armor - you're an ordinary person who happens to know a little magic, not some UBER SOLDAT of DOOOOOM
3) Use Alchemy to make money - your talents enable you to make potions.
4) Be a thief? - I always pictured this kinda character as a loveable cowardly rogue - a cross between Gandalf and a con-man really.
5) The only weapon you're allowed is a dagger and you magic, this means no staffs!
That was all the extra RPing rules I could think of - but than again I'm pretty tired right now. XD
Sorry for the rather large wall of text.
Tristram sounds like an interesting character to play, Prince Hal. I like the careful and thoughtful ones as much as the adrenaline-fueled brawlers.
Welcome, and I hope we get to hear more about your characters' adventures!
Here are a few ideas on vampirism. These ideas come from media (I've read some Anne Rice in the past), lore, and my ancient first edition D&D Monster Manual.
Movement: In Anne Rice's stories, and also in Stephen King's Salem's Lot, master-type vampires can move very fast, too fast for the human eye to register. By "master" I mean stronger vampires. So in Skyrim, my current vampire Mycharonna can outrun just about anything (sprinting), and I've dropped a few points into Stamina to enhance this, even though she is primarily a magic-user. Sprinting is not exactly "too quick for the human eye", but this is the best I can do to support what I've read in books.
Energy Drain: D&D vampires have an energy drain. I don't know if Bethesda meant this or not, but "energy drain" is similar enough to Skyrim's Vampiric Drain spell. Somebody on Bethesda's team is sticking to tradition, whether they were inspired by D&D or some other RPG with similar rules.
Exiting on two planes at once: Vampires exist on a negative plane and a material plane (like Earth) in some tabletop RPGs. I like to think that Mycharonna does this as well. I am not exactly sure how this negative plane works according to the books, but I like to think that Time has no meaning on this other plane. Mycharonna can see into the material plane from the negative, and learn about anybody (I can use UESP to look up NPCs and what they're all about).
Gaseous Form: Upon death, a D&D vampire does not actually die, it turns into a 'gaseous form'. It then must return to its coffin within a certain amount of time, and rest at least 8 hours. Umm....yah....I don't think I'll do that exactly. But I do like the idea that if my vampire dies, she has to do something to not be "dead".
Not sure how I'll handle that one yet. But suffice it to say, Mycharonna's game is not going to be strict dead-is-dead. I've found a loophole!
Okay, one more.
Turning into a large Bat: This one is in the cheesiest of vampire lore, but also in some of the best of vampiric lore. I am not going to say Mycharonna is able to turn into a bat (like on Earth) but I like the idea that she has the ability to fly.
Yes, I am going to have my first fast-traveling character. I am also going to use the 3D world map (the in-game map, not the paper one) for Mycharonna's game. For her to be able to fly, she'll also need to be able to wait at least one hour, though.
There are a typical list of other things in the Monster Manual: typical Hollywood/Bram Stoker stuff: garlic repels vamps, vampires cannot see themselves in a mirror, water kills vampires, etc. I don't like any of these, and I believe in Miss Rice's book (as well as Salem's Lot by Stephen King) powerful vampires aren't affected by this stuff, either.
The only thing everybody agrees on is sunlight. And what it does to vampires.
I recently thought I'd try playing a Dunmer and a female, something I haven't done before, so I created this class: The Judge. This is based off of Judge Dredd, but I've tried to make it lore-friendly. After the Great War, the Legion has been looking at the military of the Thalmor. They have created an elite cell of law-bringers, based upon the Justiciars, to keep order in the remote places of Tamriel. My character, Estarael Santori, is fresh out of the academy in Daggerfall, and has been sent to Skyrim. Because of the experimental nature of this program, no gold or equipment can be provided. Ok, enough of story, let's go into mechanics.
-Light armor, for mobility and flexibility, is recommended
-One-handed weapons (I use an axe) are a must
-Destruction magic is used in the off-hand, use the one best suited to the situation at hand
-NO SNEAKING. All lawbreakers must be given a fair trial, and that means a fair fight
-I suggest you recite a list of crimes for people like named bandit chiefs (i.e., Hajvarr Iron-Hand), as a list of their misdemeanors would probably be on file
-Try some one-liners for killmoves (case closed, I knew you'd say that, guilty as charged, etc.)
-This class is nothing new, it is very story-driven
Well, that's it. Hope I didn't make a gigantic idiot out of myself. Thanks!
If your sneak skill is high enough, and you crouch down in front of someone, they won't be able to see you, even in a full set of dragonbone armor and while carrying a big, clunky weapon
I posted this idea in another thread but I think it actually more properly belongs here.
So my new Skyrim roleplay idea is a Forsworn warrior. I can use mods to actually start her as a Forsworn, Forsworn armor and all, in Druadach Redoubt. I've already made a Forsworn-looking Greatsword for her, using a model from an older Dragonbone weapons mod. And, thanks to inspiration from SubRosa, I have also decided to make Hagravens pacific. An important part of my character's adventure is going to be a pilgrimage to all the Hagravens in the game, to receive spiritual guidance from them.
My character's adventure will kick off when the Shaman of her clan receives a vision while trying to sleep on one of those lumpy straw mats they have. It is a vision of great happenings far to the south in a place called Helgen. The Shaman will send my character to find this place.
I'm not too familiar with that part of the Reach so both myself and my character are sure to get lost trying to find Helgen (I won't be using my in-game map this time around). My alternate start mod places a charred corpse in Helgen that has a journal that can begin the main quest. My character will stumble upon this corpse, read the journal and set off for Riverwood.
She doesn't know it yet but she is going to also have an encounter with vampires and travel to a distant land called Solstheim also. I'll let her know about those little details when the time is right.
I'm really excited about this game. I'm particularly excited about my home made Hagraven pilgrimage quests. I guess I'm easily pleased.
As much as I mentioned in the other thread that I am not a big fan of the Hagravens (though I did love teaming up with Melka, she was very entertaining!), I think this is an excellent idea. It goes back to what I observed in that Mojave thread, that the people who play Bethesda games for years on end tend to be the ones who create their own stories. I will probably try it myself sometime. I have never been able to find a reason for a character of mine to wear one of those skimpy outfits, and that would certainly fit the bill!
Having all Forsworn non-hostile sounds like a great plan to me. I’m sure there are unfriendly politics going on between different groups, but if they made a habit of slaughtering each other on sight there probably wouldn’t be many of them left by now to harass the local non-Bretons.
It’s a shame that the game doesn’t make NPCs react appropriately to the Forsworn outfits. I’ve thought of playing a Forsworn Looter/Pillager tasked with bringing junk back to the hideout, but having to kill them all upon arrival “home” was too much of a stretch even for me.
Lol, Conceptual Gaming. I think that’s what I’ve been calling “fan fiction.”
I have similar thoughts about the Forsworn getup. My tribal Nord Jensa (with a completely made-up background) wore it for some time. The boots and gauntlets cover where I tend to get scratched wearing shorts and a T shirt, and I get why she liked her skin in the breeze. But Jensa is a big girl, and that top would do little to minimize bounce and sway. Oh well. That wasn’t the only thing she and I disagreed about.
I guess a jog-bra top mod would be too much to hope for.
Oh, Jensa also liked the little peek of butt cleavage that the loincloth provided. What can you do.
Also, hi Rohirrim! I like the no-sneak approach for your Judge. Sneaking is one of those moral litmus tests that can really define a character, like whether or not it’s OK to murder butterflies. We have “Today In” threads in both spoiler and non-spoiler versions, I hope you’ll share your adventures with Estarael!
I know what the Forsworn top needs! Spiral perm mod.
My own Flashdance attire was ripped off and ripped up boyfriend wear. Not my best look. But I did have excellent hair.
Jensa abandoned her half-naked armor once she started fighting dragons in favor of the uni-boob (and Stenvar approved) Blades armor. I remember that journal entry very well.
Aaand a roleplay idea, or more of a character idea: I wanted to try an angry Altmer, so I made a huge, red-headed Nord-looking guy. I gave him a miserable origin born to an imprisoned high elf during the Great War. When things got dicey in the IC his internment camp was evacuated in kind of a hurry. At some point a healer gathered up the unclaimed kids and marked them terminal, sickly, or hale. Our Altmer was one of the lucky ones. He had lost track of his name, so after that he called himself Hale.
Unfortunately for my plans he turned out more grim than angry. This is the guy who needs a fashion intervention. He wields an ancient Nord battle axe and shoots lightning for a ranged attack. He went to Winterhold to buy a better hood and it amused him to complete their quest line in fur armor that I suspect he doesn’t wash. Hale didn’t feel a great sense of purpose, he just wondered what was going to happen next.
Right now he’s parked outside the College in the Arch-Mage getup looking annoyed. I think he might be fun to wander with when I get the time. Lydia is still tagging along, but he’s not attached to her. She probably just likes his shiny staff.
Speaking of Flashdance outfits, I knew I had this somewhere...

Pseron, you might want to try http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27369 out. It starts you out as a Forsworn and has a questline.
Here’s something we were discussing in the Today In (Spoilers) thread. I was TRYING not to go too far off topic, but that didn’t happen. Anyway the subject was using NPCs as stand-ins for characters.
For example I have my characters Jerric and Darnand in Jerric’s game using Marcurio in the role of Darnand, and Darnand and Jerric in Darnand’s game with Argis the Bulwark filling in for Jerric. A picture here might help, but I can’t find the damnable camera.
Anyway first I had to turn a NPC Destruction Mage (Marcurio) into a Destruction/Conjuration mage (Darnand). Easy, just give Marcurio a Staff of Some Creature and a bunch of scrolls.
Then I had to make a battlemage (Jerric) out of a NPC Warrior (Argis the Bulwark). I put Argis in plate armor like Jerric’s with an Adept hood and gave him ice and conjuration staves. It works great. Argis has only whipped out a bow once and tends to stay out of the way of Darnand’s messy fire spells until the poop really hits the fan. Argis already uses a shield and one-handed, so the only issue is that he likes his ebony axe better than any of the cool swords Darnand keeps giving him. With the right potions Argis even heals himself.
The roleplaying tip for the two of them occupying the same world through different games is that they both “rent” Uthgerd the Unbroken’s house. (Get her as a follower. Trade her key for some gold, dismiss her. Place subsequent rent deposits in the wardrobe behind her at the Bannered Mare or some barrel if you’d be tempted to go get it back.)
Uthgerd’s house is decorated in the same way in both games. Jerric’s weapon maintenance clutter (bloody rags, Dwarven oil, troll fat, hammer, Dwarven practice sword) on the small table as you come in the door, and Darnand’s egghead accoutrements (books, journals, folded notes, quills, inkwells, rolled paper, soul gem paperweights, more books, flagon, potions) on the desk in the back corner. Troll skulls dropped along the hearth where Darnand won’t trip over them, a kettle of spare staves against the left wall. All (non-respawning) storage arranged the same. We pretend that there’s another bed somewhere. If they’re away from home base too long the surfaces respawn and make an unholy mess but by then they usually need something to argue about anyway, so it works out.
You are a frickin' genius, Grits. I just want you to know this. You are a genius. Holy [censored]. I am basking in the light of a great roleplayer here.
Cool. Ivy looks wicked. Not long ago there was a short Maomar discussion over at Beth I think. They are the sea elves, right?
I'm wondering if they ever appeared in an ES game as NPCs?
That is interesting. This explains their rarity for sure. I had never heard of them until (over at Beth, I am pretty sure) somebody was planning to make a Maomar PC. I forget who it was, though. I think somebody even started a thread about sea elves or Maomar?
Here's the http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1439220-want-to-make-a-maormer/page__p__22164485__hl__maormer__fromsearch__1#entry22164485to that thread.
Well, this was a character until I noticed the character topic...So, this is now a class! Magical, no? So, here is: The War Prince. It's a kind of skirmisher class, with a bow and one-handed with a shield. Light armor is essential, as it also requires sneak. Some speech is good, just for immersion purposes, like diplomacy and whatnot. You can pick any race, but I find a some better than others for the purposes of a prince or lord, elves and beast races, for example, mainly because they're more obscure and less likely to break immersion. I mean, if you were the son of the Emperor of High King, I think people would know, but the far-flung lands below the human-populated part of Tamriel are less known to the common folk. I suggest you use some kind of progression to your title, like: serve in the Legion or Stormcloaks for part of a campaign, be named as heir, rise to power, assert you rule with the other ruling bodies in your chosen province...the choices are endless.
Hey all! New to the forums, found them while looking for RP ideas/tips/challenges in Skyrim. The ones I'm currently using are these:
-Hunger/Thirst/Sleep (mod)
-Hypothermia (mod)
-Walk most places
-More reaslistic timescale
-Live Another Life (mod, allows you to choose a starting option other than caught crossing the border, though I'm only just reasling how open and usefull a beginning that is)
-Talk to companions regularly, talk to sitting people while sitting
-Earn my gold through a "carreer", i.e Blacksmith, Thief, etc.
-Scenic carriages (mod)
The only somewhat unique class or RP archtype I've thought of (at least, it was an idea I came up with on my lonesome) is the Adventurer: Skilled in one form of combat, be it sword and shield, dual weilding, two handed etc and one form of armour, with skills focused on trees that will help his adventures, such as Speechcraft to talk their way out of trouble, Sneak to avoid some combat, Illusion to control or even avoid some combat etc. It's a deliberately unfocused build that I expect could make for some very interesting characters. I haven't had a very good run at it yet, mainly due to the difficuties with starting
somewhere other than Helgen.
On the topic of mods, I enjoy them. They can add new facets to a game, as well as some very interesting and immersion-building moments. Plus, the amount of content that they can add is staggering. For someone who's played Skyrim to death before trying a role-playing approach, it's often good to have new areas to explore, rather than having to repeat certain quests ad nauseum with different characters.
EDIT: Apologies if this is reviving a dead thread
Welcome to the forums Grey Fox!
There's a introduce yourself thread in the general discussion forums, so you might want to post there.
Threadomancy is ok, I think??? (I'm relatively new here) just make sure Arch-Mage Traven isn't watching.
I play with most of those features self implemented on my xbox I wish I had a PC capable of handling skyrim with mods. My game would be crazy with it.
Yeah, don't worry about necro-threading around here. Guess you haven't met mirocu yet. *whistles*
I feel kinda sad about the fact that I had all these great ideas just after 11/11/11 and hardly implemented any of them. It's okay though, I've still had some great characters & RP over the years.
I like your Adventurer idea Grey Fox
Wow...seeing a new member make is/her start on this thread like I did...brings a tear to my eye.
Heh sounds fun. I've experimented with both the ideas you mentioned (running in any direction from Helgen and living off the land) but never together. I have a lot of characters that live off the land to some degree; whether they are rangers who spend a lot of time in the wilderness, hunters who only go in towns to sell pelts and compete nomads. One of the things I really liked about Skyrim is the wilderness with all the passive and semi-passive animals etc.
I wanted to make a 'live off the land' type of character but never got around to making this sort. He would have been the Scout idea way back in Post 1 (I think).
I did have a character who randomly ran after the Tutorial bit. What happened was I literally ignored the Tutorial (since Beth got rid of the 'Do you really want to be an X?' options just before we exit it). I turned the sound on my TV almost off, and blurred my eyes a bit, and simply rushed thru the Tutorial. This character was a dark elf named http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/Image0121.jpg.
By the time he got out of the Tutorial, I now closed my eyes, and ran in any direction for ... I dunno, about a minute. When I opened my eyes, I had no idea where he was, which was pretty cool. Khahkhayre eventually wound up finding Pinewatch, which is a cabin right down the road from Helgen, and Pinewatch became his home.
I've done that bit (iggying the Tutorial) with several others. I like to think that they've simply awoken from a terrible nightmare.
I've got one: Valkyrie.
Basically a female nord paladin, but one sent from Sovngarde for some obscure purpose. (Possibly an MQ, civil war or dawnguard character.) The character would always wear a circlet and is suited to steel or steel plate armor; with mods I'm sure there would be some really fitting, slightly revealing armor that would be perfect but that's the best you can get in the vanilla game. If there were spears they would be the best weapons, but sword and board works fine. Ride a horse as much as possible. Do as much paladin stuff as possible etc etc....
Glad you liked the idea Subrosa. I've had a few more thoughts about the Valkyrie since posting, stretching their position in Norse mythology to fit my Skyrim head-cannon needs:
Valkyrie's do not require 'mortal sustenance' (food or sleep) and cannot die; when defeated they are simply teleported back to Sovngarde, and often then back to Nirn. In Norse mythology their role is to choose who lives and dies in battle and then choose who goes to Valhalla. In my head canon they are protectors of the dead and oversee the Hall of Valor, they also despise the undead and necromancers and are often sent by Shor to deal with undead threats that mortals cannot deal with. They can revive honorable warriors who died in battle to fight alongside them (conjuration magic). They are the daughters of Kyne and Shor, and as such do not harm animals unless they must (shouts will be allowed to get the ones that calm animals). I'm thinking that my Valkyrie (if I ever get time to play one) will be the character I play through the dawnguard side of the dawnguard questline with. They will also go into as many Nordic tombs and 'cleanse' the draugr. The wont take any loot from the tombs though.
I like your thought about not looting tombs. I’ve found that how a character behaves inside Bleak Falls Barrow tells me a lot about them.
I think the Dawnguard sun damage spells would be a great fit for a Valkyrie character. I especially like Stendarr’s Aura for that righteous glow.
That Valkyrie idea sound sreally good! There's a couple of Steam Workshop mods that expand the weapons to include shortswords, hammers, mauls and war-maces, as well as one and two-handed spears. Since it works on the entire armoury, it has spears from pretty much every set of equipment, including Nordic and Draugr.
Many of my characters will not loot the Nord Tombs. Or will only do so to a certain extent. For example, Hrafngoelir would not take the things in urns or sitting out and such. But she would take things off of the Draugr that she killed. The way she saw it, that was not robbing the dead, but hers by right of honorable battle.
Persephone takes it even further. She won't kill the Draugr while they 'sleep'. She walks up to them, nudges them, and waits for them to get up and pull their weapons out before she will strike a blow.
Thanks for all the tips for my Valkyrie guys
Curse my imagination I've another idea for a character! This one would only be a relatively short play thorough, even if it did manage to stay alive long enough to complete its purpose. Basically, a young student of alchemy in Cyrodiil comes north to Skyrim to trace down Sinderion and rumors of the fables , Crimson Nirnroot. (for those who haven't been to Blackreach, this is a plant discovered down there). His/her purpose is to master the art of alchemy (lvl 100) and locate Sinderion and the secrets of his work.
The alchemist won't use anything except novice and some apprentice level spells and won't use any weapons. I doubt they will own property or marry. They may join the college of winterhold, but not as an active student.
I'll probably do this play through after Ravos goes into semi-retirement (at some point he will emerge again to do the db expansion) alongside my other character Mavrys. Both will be short llaythroughs followed by my valkyrie which will be longer (first non-DiD character on Skyirm)
The Valkyrie idea is a good one for Oblivion too. The Golden Saint armor would be perfect.
I think the Alchemist Shack would be a perfect place for the Skyrim Alchemist to live.
They could wear the generic blue robe? (I think that is the one the dead Alchemists you find always wear. Or is it the black robe?). Then again, that might be a good reason to wear something else!
Subrosa, based on your advice the alchemist may stick to robes that do not possess the colour blue. He intends on living a long and healthy life
You are right that the Valkyrie would be good for oblivion too. It'll probably come down to what game I feel like playing when I feel like creating the Valkyrie. The golden saint armour would be absolutely perfect! All the armours in skyrim are a bit dull and gritty. The Valkyrie has to glow!
Here’s an idea I’ve been working on for Skyrim. I’ve never had a vampire complete the Dawnguard questline. I’ve had two that tried and died, one vampire that cured herself, and another who lived in Raven Rock in a blood-starved state until she retired. So far I have taken the stealthy Illusion/Conjuration route with One-Handed as a backup when I try to make a vampire. This results in a character who does not possess the preternatural strength that I associate with vampires. So inspired by another one of Dan Mason’s awesome builds (http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/group/character-building/forum/topics/character-build-the-volkihar), I went a different way this time.
Serafíne Serrano was an Agent of Dibella working as an infiltrator for the Imperial Legion. She had her greatest success gathering intelligence on the Thalmor. Then something happened in the far north.
The Volkihar clan under Lord Harkon began creating chaos throughout Tamriel’s vampire world. The Vigilants of Stendarr and the newly reformed Dawnguard did not seem to be up to the task of containing them, much less foiling the unknown Nefarious Plan. Serafíne was pulled from her role in the Legion to address this new threat. Oh yeah, she had infiltrated the Legion from another organization. (Inspired by McB! )The one she really works for. The Knights of the Nine have not entirely faded into obscurity.
Anyway she was asked to do the unthinkable. Put her very soul in the claws of Molag Bal. Become a vampire herself. Bring down the Volkihar from the inside.
Serafíne’s skills are Destruction, Alteration, One-Handed, and Enchanting. Restoration is a skill she’ll use until she turns. I’m not going the Necromage perk/vampire player exploit route. She’s unarmored for speed and badassery. Plus her background as a spy has not given her armor skills. She is not Dragonborn but will use Become Ethereal like Mycharonna’s Gaseous Form, Slow Time to represent her vampire speed, and the frost Shouts as Volkihar ice magic. The Volkihar are supposed to be able to freeze the blood in a mortal’s veins and reach through solid ice to ensnare their victims. That sounds pretty neat.
Destruction perks will go toward enhancing her frost spells and enchantments. I’m not sure about which Standing Stone to use for her. The Steed would give her a large encumbrance allowance which would make her seem unnaturally strong, but going without armor kind of wastes half of that Stone. Unless she switches to Heavy Armor with the Steed Stone to remove the armor penalties after she turns. Hmm. That would kind of make her a vampire ice knight. In that case I’d put points evenly between magicka and health with every fifth level going to stamina. That sounds like a plan!
So for a follower I’m thinking Nelacar since he hates all Daedra. That will take some console trickery, but it should be a nice twist. He’s a sorcerer and clearly willing to risk the player’s soul in the Azura quest, so he might be the only mortal in Skyrim who would think Serafíne is not an idiot for going along with the plan. Say, maybe he’s her contact with the KotN. Yeah, that’s it!
Depending how things go I might try some vampire mods. I’d like her to be hated at Stage Four so she has to feed, and Dawnguard took that away. I think Dawnguard vampires can summon gargoyles as a power but I’m not quite sure how that works. Since Serafíne is not skilled in Conjuration that should be a treat.
I’m not sure if random vampires keep attacking, but I know that if you’re on the vampire side you get random Dawnguard attacks. That should give Serafíne’s journey some real darkness. The Dawnguard is not in on the plan, so she’ll have to kill them. Collateral damage.
Also I forgot Whirlwind Sprint, at least the two words that are not in the Main Quest. And sun damage, that was the other thing I’d need a mod for. Give me back my sun damage! There should be big risks and big rewards for Bal’s children.
There’s a mod called Better Vampires that looks popular. It seems very customizable. I’ll report in the mods area if I use it.
I need to remember to have Serafíne buy some summoning scrolls for emergencies. That’s something she would do but I keep forgetting!
Neat background idea. She sounds a bit like the Black Widow! You might consider her being a Blades agent. They would have good reason to infiltrate the Legion and work against the Thalmor.
I used the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9717 mod when I played Helregin. The best thing about it is that it has a built in customization feature, so you can pick and choose what you want from the mod, and even how things work. For example I set it so that vampires became more powerful by feeding, rather than less. And that at the highest stage you were automatically attacked.
I believe the vanilla gargoyle summoning is part of the Vampire Lord form. You have to take one of the Vamp Lord perks to be able to do it, and I think it is only doable in Lord Form. But I might be wrong, as I never liked the Vampire Lord form, so never used it. I just made a little mod that makes gargoyle summoning a regular spell, along with death hounds, trolls and huskies. I can email it to you if you like.
Renee, if you do the Vampire Side of Dawnguard, there won't be random vampires attacking you. Instead you get random Dawnguard members attacking you for the rest of the game. I cannot remember if you get the vampire attacks on cities or not. I have a mod that disables them, since I like having living NPCs in my game.
For followers, if you go the Volkihar side, you can recruit two unique Death Hounds for sidekicks. Use my gargoyle summoning mod as well, and you will have a small army without even using any companion NPCs. Or maybe just create a new NPC to be her familiar, and name him Renfield?
When it comes to the song, I always find myself singing "Yorba Linda" instead.
I have been doing the unarmored greatsword type character with Inanna for several days now, and it is working out really well. She started out wearing an unenchanted college robe, and only magiced it up last night to help with restoration and magicka regen. She used the starting Flames spell for long distance fighting, now traded up to the Apprentice level Firebolt spell. Her only defense is a Ward, which is helpful against enemy archers and spellcasters. She does not use the mage armor spells at all.
So far her biggest difficulty has been fighting melee and missile opponents at once. She cannot use the ward and her sword at the same time. If she keeps the ward and uses a fire attack on the melee guy, she runs out of magicka by the time he is dead. Those wards eat up the blue! If she switches to the sword, that leaves her open to the archer. The best she can do is try to retreat around corners to get the melee opponents alone. It makes for very challenging situations.
Inanna is an Altmer, and combined with no armor, she is very fast! Sometimes I find myself surprised at how quickly she can move. I am not used to a melee-fighter being so quick on her feet.
Inanna sounds like a lot of fun. On consoles I found that a two-handed weapon was much friendlier to battlemages than one-handed since one click on the hot-key button swapped the sword for the two pre-loaded spells. I never got smooth with the switch for poor Jerric. He always ended up with a shield and an ice spike when he needed his sword and a healing spell.
I checked out Better Vampires and it has a lot of features that I’m going to use. My vampire will have immunity to poison and disease but potions and food’s effects won’t work on her. She’ll be vulnerable to fire and somewhat resistant to frost. Sun really does hurt her. Those NPC vampires who are running for cover in the daytime? She has to run too, and she better not have to go far or she’ll die. However rain and snow clouds cover the sun and reduce the damage she takes. (Or possibly eliminate it, I haven’t played much other than testing.) At Stage Four she will be hated and attacked! Random groups of vampire hunters will come after her at any stage without warning. Also there is a power that lets you call creepy animals to fight for you. I really like that it’s a power and not a Conjuration spell, since I don’t want Serafíne to become another summoner like so many of my characters before her.
The neatest thing so far is force feeding during combat. This character is not going to go running around in Vampire Lord form. She loathes herself as a vampire. But she also revels in the new power. So biting an enemy during a fight and bleeding them dry is a big guilty pleasure.
Also she will not cooperate with the switch to heavy armor and Steed Stone. So I restyled Nelacar as a http://i.imgur.com/kitAlXe.png and made him a follower for her, plus she has Vorstag as a http://i.imgur.com/XJtNu4E.png at her back. I’m probably going to take away Nelacar’s high level fire spells since he wouldn’t be stupid enough to blow up his fellow knight/ vampire like he does in the game. She hasn’t spent much time with these guys but they’ve been an awesome team for fighting dragons. They chose their Divine allegiances by equipping those amulets when she gave them a selection. Much to my surprise during a test they strolled right into Castle Volkihar while following her. That was odd looking but made me think. Now I’m working on a plan where she might turn Vorstag and pass Nelacar off as her thrall, but that’s all story and subject to change without notice by character. It will be much easier to keep her alive if she can keep running behind Vorstag to renew her mage armor spells.
I never had trouble with the sword/shield and sword/spell combo. D'Eon did that a lot. You can hotkey both shield and sword to different keys (for me it was 2 and 3 respectively), and they automatically come up in the correct hands. All of your spells come up in the left hand first. So she would typically only use one-handed spells. Like trading out her shield for a fast healing spell (1 is always my healing spell hotkey) in the middle of combat, then switching back to the shield to be ready for the next attack. So I would just hit 1 to ready the healing spell. Use it. Then hit 2 to get the shield back. I liked it because it always kept her sword in hand, so she could always smack something at any moment if need be.
I also liked the feeding off of fresh corpses as a vampire, rather than people who were sleeping. It made the whole thing much more immersive. Helregin would typically feed off everyone she killed. Though back when I had the mod (earlier version), you could not do it to someone who was still alive and fighting. It had to be a corpse.
It sounds like Serafine is carting quite an army around with her! You might consider ditching the followers. Sera may have been holy once, but she's Bal's Babe now. Having an army of paladins following her around seems, weird. Maybe go with some more vampire-centric ones? Like Njall the Unliving Santa. This would seem like the perfect situation to resurrect him *all puns intended* as a follower. Sera will end up with Serana in no time anyhow, and she is nothing to sneeze at either.
I had a roleplaying idea this morning. What about playing the children of one of your current characters? I got the idea from Persephone's game, where she has adopted Lucia and Sofie. I was thinking of playing one or both of the girls as grown-ups. I could play one and make the other a follower. Or just play both separately. Lucia would probably make a great mage, and Sofie your standard Nord warrior. Of course given their upbringing, I am sure both would have some necromancy in their backgrounds. Like being able to summon uncle Darryl.
I could even add Mom and the uncle Darryl's as NPCs. Though then I would have to figure out what do about the family house. Persephone lives in Helajarchen Hall. So I suppose I could try building it Out Of Character, and the populate it with Mommy Persephone and Darryl, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl. Though I don't think either Sofie or Lucia would want to live there as adults. They would probably want to find their own homes for a little privacy. "Mo-om, the draugr are staring at me again!"
Or maybe I could RP that Helajarchen was flattened by giants, and Persephone has moved on to a new house? That would be easier, especially if it is a mod-added home, and would give me NPC Persephone and the Darryl's right off the bat. Winterhold would be a really easy place to put up a new house, given all the empty space in town.
I think this is a great idea. I have three of Jerric’s crew’s children pretty well fleshed out as far as adult temperament, personality, skills and appearance. Bannor’s appearance (when he’s not Hulked out ) is modeled after one of them. Of course I don’t want to play them until they’re at least in the story, so they’ll probably be my characters for TES 14.
A modded house in Winterhold would be a natural fit for Persephone. She may end up wanting a house there in her own game if she doesn’t enjoy dorm life at the College. You could also have Mom Persephone living with the uncles in Winterhold while Sofie and/or Lucia restore Heljarchen Hall after the incident with the neighbors. Building Lakeview was definitely an OOC experience in my Jerric characters’ games since it’s Aravi and Kharjo’s house in their world. After Abiene’s Smithing hit 45 I decided to just give nails and stuff to Lil. Those things really should be for sale.
I love having my own characters as NPCs in each other’s games. It will be easy to make Persephone as an NPC in a dozen or so years – you won’t have to age her! I think you should go for it!
I’ve also thought about how Mikke and Roggi’s kids might have turned out. Their personalities were part of Mikke’s game through the letters Roggi wrote to her. (Mostly while she was in Solstheim saving the world Part 3 and having an affair with Torvar.) Sofie was unsurprisingly quite the little warrior always hanging around Jorrvaskr, and Alesan was a natural salesman and deal-broker. I imagine he turned out not unlike Marius.
How funny that you should come up with this RP idea, Sage Rose, since I've been looking at http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56916/ for the past week or so. I think it sounds intriguing enough, but as it's still a WIP, I'm only tracking it for now.
Besides, I prefer playing older character with a bit of history. I like showing what they do with the consequences of what has happened to them rather than showing what happened to them and how they dealt with it. Sort of like Julian coming to us as a character with tons of baggage that we learn about throughout the course of a 400,000 word story!
Also it's funny that you would bring up an RP from the viewpoint of an NPC - in Alise's game, Alise is not talking nearly as much as her constant companion. He's the one telling me what happened and how it happened!
haute, I find that happens to me a lot when I play with one of my own NPCs as a follower. Darnand’s internal monologue is the most accessible when he’s a follower in Jerric’s game.
So I tried playing a member of the Forsworn. I added a storage chest to Draudach Redoubt and made Kaie, Odvan, and Borkul the Beast into potential followers. I added my character Eiven to the Forsworn faction after the Cidna Mine quest so that everyone would hate him. I even liked the way he looked in his http://i.imgur.com/E9QxORC.png. The thing is I just didn’t enjoy slaughtering guards and farmers. By level 5, game over.
The concept worked, though. I’ll try it again someday if I get a better idea for a character. In Eiven’s case I spent a lot of time wishing he and the Nords could just get along.
I was anticipating the same problem when I played Morigu. That is why I didn't put her in the Forsworn faction, leaving them hostile to her, and regular people friendly by default. As a renegade Forsworn, she was very playable. She could fight the regular Forsworn all day long. Then she could still kill Nord farmers and innkeepers, but only if they pissed her off: like by bragging about how Tiber Septim stayed in their inn while conquering The Reach. Or by being a Silverblood.
I enjoyed reading this thread, especially when I saw that some of you already realized your ideas.
I'm leaning towards a new playthrough, namely a Nord barbarian / marauder. I'd use the default start, roleplay wise he'd be captured by the Legion because of killing Imperial soldiers in the Jeralls. He'd escape Helgen and then fight against the Legion & Thalmor on his own, which means he'd attack their patrols and forts.
With time he'd create his own gang of bandits and they'd attack together, with Jasonx Renamer it's possible to rename NPCs so I could give some personality to his gang members. I'd make him friendly to bandits so it'd be possible to recruit them. He would avoid towns and rest in bandit camps / ruins / caves. His bounty would probably become very high with time, so bounty hunters would be on his tail. In the long run he might join Stormcloaks or fight against the Empire on his own.
He would have a threatening name, something like Sigfried the Beast or Sigfried the Butcher.
ow ! I mean oh, I love that idea! DEFINITLEY create this guy... it's so neat being friendly with bandits, especially. I got this tingling feeling when Snaat Rayag went in his first bandit lair. I'm so used to having them attack my pc, but with Snaaty, all they did was greet him normally. It was weird!
I like Sigfried the Butcher. Like maybe he's actually a butcher, like that's his job in bandit camps, but he gets a reputation for 'butchering' enemies as well.
I wanted to test all my mods together, so my latest is a two-handed Orc barbarian, who's just become Arch-mage and wields a Bound Battleaxe, except while riding a bear. I may have to tweak something so she can do the last two at the same time.
I'd post a picture, but the last time I saw her, she was only wearing the amulet. She does have a set of mage apprentice clothes, but nobody knows she's Arch-mage if her amulet's covered.
Destri sort of beat me to it. I was going to suggest going with a RL Norse name and/or nickname. Like Harald Hardrada (Hard-Counsel). Or Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye. Eyjolf Saur (Saur means feces, or filth, obviously what people thought of Eyjolf). Holmgang Hrafn (Holmgang means 'island-going'. Duels were often fought on small islands, so it means a duelist. Hrafn of course means raven. So Holmgnang Hrafn comes out to mean Duel Raven.
Thank you for suggestions. I created him a few days ago but I stuck with the intended name - Sigfried the Butcher, because he used to be a butcher. And he was a cook as well, so there'll be a lot of cooking going on in his game. The name "Sigfried" supposedly has Old Norse origins and he's partially based on some character from my old comic book whose name was Sigfried and he was an evil viking.
Sigfried will at first travel around Skyrim and recruit some prominent bandits, the first on his to-recruit list is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ghunzul from the Cracked Tusk Keep and the next one'll probably be http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alain_Dufont. I roleplay that Sigfried, Ghunzul, Alain and other bandits that'll join them, used to plunder together in the past before parting ways. So he'll sort of create his small anti-Empire army, composed of his former friends.
Each of his friends will have an unofficial quest which Sigfried will have to do to convince them to join, they might demand money, weapons, fresh horses, someone to be killed, etc...
ghastley’s Argonian Hearthfires mod made me start a game for one of Oblivion’s most charming NPCs, Dar-Ma.
In Oblivion she’s a Sharpshooter, though I suppose she’s mostly untapped potential during the events of that game. Sharpshooter class puts her in light armor with a bow, Destruction, Restoration, and Sneak. Athletics and Acrobatics put her on the left side of the slider. Favored attributes are Agility and Intelligence. I have a wind and water destruction mod installed, so she should be splashing the bad guys to death as soon as she buys the tomes in Whiterun.

I agree with mALX - it is so nice to see dear Dar-Ma in Skyrim!
Dar-Ma! She is one of my favoritest characters from Oblivion. I think she might be a little too nice for Skyrim though. Though playing her as a pacifist illusionist would seem appropriate, and quite a challenge.
Since she's already made a start at it, she could become Skyrim's first professional bottle-miner!
Ha! She certainly has the bottle-mining experience!
SubRosa, a pacifist illusionist with restoration to heal her friends was my first thought. That’s how I play Abiene.
