Chorrol.com _ The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited _ Rate Your Level of Excitement.

Just a general poll to see how excited you guys are. I barely have any interest in this game so I was just kind of wondering where you guys stand.

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 27 2013, 08:49 PM

No interest, lol

Unless I suddenly get a computer able to handle it.

Posted by: ghastley Jun 27 2013, 09:27 PM

I have absolute no interest in playing it myself, but I'm excited that it may do two things: attract attention to the franchise, and make them money they can spend on TES VI.

Voted the first part only.

Posted by: King Of Beasts Jun 27 2013, 09:47 PM

I'm sorta excited. I usually don't enjoy MMO's though, but it's elder scrolls, involves molag bal, and gives me a chance to see all the provinces in fairly good graphics, so I'll probably try it out...

Posted by: King Coin Jun 27 2013, 10:06 PM

I'm not excited, but I'll still try it. I do hope it is successful, for the same reasons ghastly stated.

Posted by: mirocu Jun 28 2013, 03:43 PM

Voted last option.

I´m just not into online games and to be frank I´m happy with the games I have and don´t need a new one smile.gif

Posted by: ImperialSnob Jun 28 2013, 04:58 PM

I seem like the only one who wants to play.

God damn it,stop being such anti-social buggers!(imagine this in the most jokingly said way possible because it sounds like I'm being a jerk but as I like to always say,"That, that is a joke.",TLDR I was joking)

Posted by: mirocu Jun 28 2013, 05:07 PM

I´m just social here. When I play I´m the most anti-social being on Earth! tongue.gif

Going by the poll I'd say it is going to be a very small clan. tongue.gif

Posted by: jack cloudy Jun 30 2013, 08:32 PM

I'm not following the news at all to avoid getting hyped. (and knowing me, that means I'll find out about its release a year after the fact.) As for trying it, it depends on how the payment model is. I'm not tossing down sixty+ bucks for a game I don't know if I'll even like. Did that once and well, never again. If they let you try a day or two for free though, I'll give it a shot.

Why are you all so pesimisstic!?!?!?

They loved Morrowind, followed every scrap of news about Oblivion while it was under development, had enthusiastic discussions on the official forums about how freaking awesome it will be, bought it, and were totally let down.

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 30 2013, 09:45 PM

I can't play it, so why get excited about it? XD

Posted by: Darkness Eternal Jun 30 2013, 10:14 PM

Can't wait for it. Not going to even run it on a PC, because mine can barely even run Star Wars: The Old Republic. So I'll be buying a PS4 just for ES online and the Witcher.

Now, I'm not too big of an MMO fan but I'll still play them. I read most previews and hands-on, but what had me interested was of couse the controls. The game, as many of the previews say, plays like ES. None of that auto attack nonsense, or click the options to throw an attack. It plays like Skyrim and Oblivion. Hold to give power attack, press for regular attack.

That, and of course, Molag Bal's involvement has me interested. Playable creatures has me sold. Besides, we also get to visit other provinces. I'll leave the rest to judge but for right now I can't wait to try it out. I can just see myself getting hunted by other players from the Fighter's Guild cool.gif

You won't take my pelt for a trophy, no siree!

Posted by: Elisabeth Hollow Jun 30 2013, 10:17 PM

I keep thinking this says "Rate your level of Excrement."

Posted by: Darkness Eternal Jun 30 2013, 10:27 PM

The title is a bit biased.

"That Online Thing."

As if the ES online is an accursed game. laugh.gif

Posted by: Grits Jul 1 2013, 12:10 AM

I’m somewhat excited. That Online Thing should make Tamriel a more filled-in place. It will likely be awhile before I try it, though. Too many other things I’d rather do first.

TES gamers are used to play alone because that´s what our favorite games are; single players.

Posted by: ThatSkyrimGuy Jul 1 2013, 12:46 PM

I voted "Not excited, but will try it out". WoW kind of burned me out on the "pay for play" MMO genre. Just a big money vacuum. But as others have said, I do want to try it because it is ES.

We aren't "all" pessimistic. The vote is split almost evenly.

I'm actually more excited about this game than I was a few days ago. I watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sD7x1KF8N8o and was pretty impressed. I haven't paid much attention to the game up until now so I knew very little about it.

Before this, I was planning to buy it because I love the Elder Scrolls and I can't imagine not buying a new game in my beloved Elder Scrolls series. But now I am planning to buy it less out of a sense of loyalty and a bit more because I am genuinely excited.

That's a bit of a generalisation.

You can still play alone, you don't NEED to group up.

They've got a main questline you can do,and you can just quest,it's basicly normal TES with other people you don't need to communicate with at all.

You don't need to do raids or dungeons or PvP,you can level up through crafting and questing.

I just explained how people may think. Even though what you said is obvious, people may think "Oh, it´s a MMO, not for me" even though one can play like you said smile.gif

I´m saying I´m not interested, but I´ll prolly buy the box eventually anyway. Just like I did with Skyrim tongue.gif

That is the title of the section, not the thread. I tried to keep the thread options unbiased as much as possible too.

My personal opinion is that online games are fun for lots of people. I just don't really enjoy them much personally.

I just wanted to kind of get an idea about where everyone else is about this game and get a few opinions.

Posted by: Pseron Wyrd Jul 2 2013, 03:07 PM

Personally, I read "That Online Thing" as a form of affectionate teasing. smile.gif

Didn't know they were coming out with an online thing, til I saw this thread.

The trailer looks badarsedness, but....um....*take a shot HIMYM fans*...not my cup of tea. For the ones, that it is, enjoy. smile.gif

Though, I could totally see many of the frequenters of GD (GENERAL DISCUSSION!!) being on livechat yelling about not aggravating the mobs. Thing is, I'm pretty good with voice...'acting' I wanna say, but really imitation. I could totally pull off the Telemundo Announcer....I do at work too over the radio.

They love it. Maybe I should put something up....how does this record thingy work?

Also guys don't worry,it won't be a sub fee game because sub MMOs are dying besides WoW.

Yeah, I'm quite excited for it...

As I said, I promised the kids we'd get a PS4 when there's an Elder Scrolls, an Assassin's Creed and a Fallout...

So, the first two are on their way and Fallout is slated for October 2014...

Ummmm....

Oh yes, definitely going to get it...Am pretty excited, but after the huge downer I had about Skyrim (I was hoping for Oblivion but bigger and newer, and what I got was...Less and newer and prettier...Of course you're going to forget Ease Burden spells in 200 years...Of course...SnassnFrassn...)...So I'm not going over the top with it this time...

Personally, I'm way more excited about the latest Madden NFL than ES Online... laugh.gif ...

Oh, and the Assassins...(They're making 3 more as we speak!!! *Does dance of joy!!*)...

Ooooh!!...Something else I read today in t'Playstation mag...The game (ESO) has - according to someone named from Bethesda, I forget who though - "150 hours of quests, right out of the box." Though given there's three factions and the MQ, I'm not sure how much that leaves to go around...Everything else is unlocked DLC stylee...ie, with money...Which some idiot is bound to fork out from the off...*Rollseyes*...Yes, I mean me... biggrin.gif ...

I was just noting that they're not afraid to charge ever increasing prices for a relatively small amount of content, which is why it wouldn't surprise me if they did follow that business plan.

I was commenting on their business model and noting that going by their current strategy, I could easily see them having micro transactions in their MMO in order to maximize profit.

If it is coming out in October on the Playstation, then it will probably be out for X-Box at least 6-9 months sooner, and PC at least a month after the X-Box release.

Just caught up on watching videos for this. The game's geography looks awesome. The exploration alone would make this game pretty amazing for hardcore Elderscrolls fans. I still doubt I'll play it but I get why so much interest is buzzing around this thing.

It is nice to see Bethsoft listening to their giant fan base that has been requesting a multiplayer ES game ever since I can remember but it just isn't for me. My love for ES games is BECAUSE it is single player. The whole draw for me is the ability to become immersed in the world that the series takes place in. I can live the life of a character. There is no distraction from the outside world (real life) and I just melt into the game.

Once you add little kids yelling into the microphone, scammers, gold sellers, and the human element, the game is just less interesting.

I know that Cyrodiil is supposed to be the Player versus Player arena where anything goes, but what I'm wondering about is how are you going to be able to wander about the other areas without running into gangs of friends that are simply roaming about offing solo wanderers?...

I started Red Dead Redemtion a few days back and went on the Multiplayer for a while...There was this one session where these two persons* decided, firstly to shoot the horse out from under me, and then, when I simply decided to run to where I was trying to get to, they followed me...Because it was obviously amazingly hillarious, they decided to put their horse in front of me, so I ran around them...Aaaand they ran just me down...And then cornered me...They couldn't kill me, it wasn't on that mode, but they could make life hell if they wanted to...So I respawned it somewhere else...Oddly enough, I got bored after that and haven't been back on it...

It'll be interesting to see how they do moderate that in ESO...

One,welcome to any Rockstar game's MP Free Roam.

And B,that's not how this will work, you can't go into other factions areas so that won't work and if you mean in Cyrodiil too bad,it's a PVP area what happens, what happens.

So just for the sake of it, there's three friends...They all wanna be Nords...You telling me they're not going to go at solo Dark Elf who's just collecting some flowers for leveling his Alchemy?...

Just 'cause they're the same faction does not stop them picking people off...

What?

Yes it does.

The objectionable behavior I’m anticipating with less than full enthusiasm isn’t people doing actual harm, it’s people amusing themselves by annoying their “allies.” In McB’s example the Nord buddies could simply jump up and down in front of the Dunmer, go into sneak mode repeatedly to indicate they are teabagging his flowers, stand around in a circle so that at least one is always in the way, that sort of thing. If other random players are present on the screen, they can be irritating.

I’m confused, though. Are you saying that only other players in the same small adventuring party or guild or whatever you call it would be visible in the faction areas? So if a player was exploring alone there would be no other players around? That would be great.

Posted by: Darkness Eternal Jul 18 2013, 12:39 PM

The only thing I want is an RP server, but in MMO's, it doesn't really matter. When I walk up to a person and ask them for directions in an Elder Scrolls fashion, or show my desire to trade, I expect them to return the favor in the RP way.

For example:

DE: "This mortal flesh is weak, I need sustenance!"

Other player: "Dude, there's bread and cheese wheels you can steal over by da farm, lol."

Sure, some people may not RP at all and at times I don't, but if it is the RP server, at least do the other hard-core nerds a favor laugh.gif

It seemed that players would be separated by platform, but otherwise only by faction. Then again I could be completely misunderstanding what was said. (In one of those videos.)

ETA: Couldn't find it. Anyway my hopes are pinned on that filter thing King Coin mentioned.

Your also seperated by what you picked on the survey.

OK, great. I suppose I really don't know enough to make any kind of judgement yet. Thanks! smile.gif

I just watched the video that Pseron Wyrd posted earlier in the thread. The game looks amazing. Whether I try it or not is really going to be based on cost. WoW ending up being a monthly bill that, frankly, I could live without...regardless of how much I enjoyed the game.

On a separate note, has the game been released yet? If not...do we have a release date?

Posted by: McBadgere Jul 18 2013, 01:25 PM

From the vid we watched the other day, the three platforms are seperated...You only play with others on PS4...

So you cannot kill another player unless you're in the PVP area?...

I'm agreeing with what Grits said, the annoyance thing is where it's heading...

Impsnob...What survey?...

Yes you can't kill a player of your faction unless you're in a PVP area because if you could it'd be stupid and I'd agree with you.

The survey you get when you make a charcter where you choose what kind of people you want in your game, since they don't have servers they have one Mega Server(well three for each region) so you can choose RPers,PVPers,Dungeoners.

No official release date yet (to the best of my knowledge). They're on the third round of closed beta invites right now. An educated guess might be: spring 2014...but who knows? smile.gif

One thing we don't need any more of in the Elder Scrolls franchise, in my opinion, is any more inflexible release dates. I'm happy with Zenimax pushing back an intended release date if they think the game needs more work.

And I'm sure we all know that gaming journalism is never wrong about anything. cool.gif

Right it is basically just a guess.

You have to keep in mind that this is a forum for single-player games. The results we see here are naturally going to be skewed. You can't place too much importance on how folks vote here.

Gamers who mostly play single-player games are often gamers who do not like multiplayer games. That's just how it is. Take a look at all the hundreds of threads in the Bethesda forums over the years asking for multiplayer. The responses are usually overwhelmingly hostile.

The opposite can also be true. There is a portion of online gamers who dislike single-player games. They think single-player games are boring because there's no human beings in them.

I'm actually kind of amazed that the poll shows as much interest as it does, to be honest.

Yeah I gotta agree with everything here. Maybe when it is released there will be a small boost in interest and forum members but it will probably be small increases if at all.

While I agree with the thing that we shouldn't believe everything we read in the mags...One thing I read in the brother's X-Box mag today was that they repeatedly asked Zenimax about a monthly subscription charge...And Zenimax completely blanked them...

The game sounds proper epic...They had a two-hour hands on sesh, and what they did in the time sounds brilliant...But I'm not going to bother if there's a monthly charge...That I can't afford...Not for a game...

I don't know; considering the current MMO zeitgeist for either Pay Once, Play Forever or Free to Play models, I'd reckon it'll be one of those. I'm just hoping it's not going to be a Freemium model. That would suck magnificently.

Yeah but this is Bethsoft, they've already got a fan base behind them and they're already doing well financially, which sets them apart from other game companies trying to introduce new MMO titles. We'll just have to see, everything until they announce one way or another is just speculation anyways.

Watching it now. Still not happy about the race/faction lock. (if it's still in and I kinda get why. I mean, can you imagine if 9 out of ten Stormcloaks were Argonians, Khajiit or Altmer?)

First of all, first-person combat actually looks neat and indeed like the single-player games. A tad too fast for my liking, but maybe that is just them making the trailer footage as exciting as possible while saving precious seconds by speeding it up a bit. I hope so. My reflexes suck.

Also neat lightning effect on that hammer.

~7:30: An Ogrim! I haven't seen those Daedric big fellas in ages! cool.gif

Ok, I skipped ahead when they started saying what mmos are. Sorry, but I have a short attention span. I do really like the look of the combat system but again, too fast so hopefully they slow it down a tad. I also wish I saw more fighting that wasn't dual-wielding. It does seem that singleweapons can block though. The quick spellcasting was hotkey-based I guess and the equivalent of all the skillslots in most mmos.

Enchanting effects are gorgeous. No more static fade-in fade-out glows wrapped around the weapon!

The Daedroth looked a tad different than I thought, but I like the more outworldly stonelike skin. I mean, it's a demon from a different dimension.

I didn't get a close-up (maybe in a part I missed), but Argonians seem to be based on Skyrims. And Skyrim Argonians rock! Oblivion ones looked kinda cute and innocent, but I like the ones who mean bussiness.

DE, thanks for the vid. It looks very interesting and the scenery looks fabulous. Having never touched an MMO before, I found the discussion interesting and relevant.

Posted by: Dantrag Dec 18 2013, 06:16 AM

Looks like it's mac compatible. Might try it out? I dunno I always liked elder scrolls for the fact that I could zone out into it. If I gotta hear a bunch of ten year-olds screaming profanities a la halo, I'm not going to be really into it.

Otherwise, looks kinda cool, and if we did a Chorrol guild as mentioned, it could definitely be fun.

Posted by: King Coin Dec 18 2013, 06:17 PM

It is slated to work on Mac. PC and Mac users will play together, and then Xbox One and PS4 will have separate servers.

I would like to upgrade my vote from "Not excited at all but I will still try it" to "Very excited." smile.gif

There isn't any voice chatter that I know of. There is a general text chat, but that is easily filtered if you do not want to participate in that.
