I thought it would be nice that as many peoples either are, or at least intending to play a Fallout of some kind, that a "Where are you?/What are you doing?" type o' thread was in order...
Apologies to Mods if this is out of line btw... ...
However...I believe this thread is warranted...

Arnaud and ED-E are currently stood outside the Gun-runners' Vendotron, trying to decide on whether to buy a humongous gun or not...
Next stop...Camp McCarran(?)...NCR airport camp thingy anyways... ....

The question is not
whether to buy a humungous gun or not, but
which humungous gun to buy.
In other news, Courier (imaginative name, I know) has just gone and shot the Silver Rush to pieces with Cass, and thanks to the loot he acquired, has managed to hit the 20,000 cap mark. He plans to celebrate by getting hammered on whiskey and going to hunt Fiends with his shiny new grenade launcher.

Iīm currently outside Rivet City. Iīm about to head inside to help Romeo and Juliet

Eva and the girls just finished the Camp Guardian quest, which for some reason I found absoloutly terrifying. Nothing but the distress signal playing as she traversed up to the camp in the middle of the night to find it eerily empty.
Currently Eva is trying to find Remnants Power Armour for Veronica to match the Remnants Power Helmet we found in Silver Peak Mine. She heard a set can be found in a Deathclaw nest... but she doesn't know which one (we refuse to use the wiki. Gives us a reason to explore )
Posted by: Arcry Feb 15 2013, 04:38 PM
In other news, the same Courier found shot in the head outside Goodsprings has been reported to be the cause behind the Legions current frenzy after she entered Cottonwood Cove. Escaped slaves are saying Ceasar is no more. That's all I got for ya, New Vegas! Here's Dean Domino with "Kick in the Head"!

I love discovering things on my own! I only use the Wiki when I'm desperate haha. I pretty much know the game inside and out so i don't need it; although are are still a lot of places and quests I am clueless about haha. I only used the wiki to find out about companions and how to make the multiple companion glitch work. Lol
Posted by: Colonel Mustard Feb 15 2013, 05:34 PM
I sometimes use the Wiki when I'm stuck on how to get through a quest, but apart from that I generally don't bother with it; more fun to find thigns out on my own.
In other news, Courier, Cass and his wovely doggy-woggy Rex (oo's a good boy? Yes oo are! http://xkcd.com/231/! ) took down Cook-Cook, Driver Nephi and Violet, three feared Fiends of New Vegas, and after that dived into the depths of Vault 3 and took out Motor Runner himself, blasting through the place with shotguns blazing and in Rex's case, teeth gnashing. In the ensuing awesome, blood-soaked, whiskey-swilling brawl, I discovered just how awesomely kickass a combination a Riot Shotgun with Dragons Breath shells is.
I mean seriously, it combines shotguns with fire; those are two of my favourite things in games! It's bloody brilliant!

Well, after doing a bit of Recon for research for...Something...I finally got to Camp McCarran...
Went all the way through the airport, down to that trader...Conteras?...
You know he's the one in this game that wears the armour you give him?...Well, eighteen months ago I'd left him in the full Roman gear!! ...
Trouble is, somehow, he's glitched, and it froze my game...It had done that in the past but I'd forgotten...
Worst thing is, he had over 8000 caps to trade with... ...
Balls...

On topic, I have just revisited Bethesda ruins where I killed some raiders and got some trinkets to sell. On my way to Wheaton Armory (a place I apparently havenīt searched inside yet
) I helped meself to a couple Deathclaw hands. Funny thing, whenever I kill one of them I simply have to blow their heads off. I never do that with anything else.

Shi is currently sneaking around the outer wall of the NCRCF prison, looking for a way in. She heard there might be a sheriff there who will take over looking after the town of Primm. Since she is not on good terms by the Powder Gangers, she plans to shoot everyone else there.

You are right. I just killed a deathclaw with a mountain of dynamite, and half a dozen frag mines. I cannot hit for crap free throwing, but VATS puts the dynamite right on the money.

I can't see why it would be. Seems to fit in RPG discussion to me.
My character is at Novac right now. I've reverse pickpocketed armor and weapons onto the residents so it looks like they're guarding the place and used the NCR radio glitch to post an NCR trooper and ranger there too.

Shi was my Glargg character, to get familiar with the game. Now that I have a better idea how NV plays, I rolled a more permanent toon to beat the game with.
http://i.imgur.com/Uj2UYaw.jpg Naturally she has the Four Eyes perk, along with Small Frame (not sure if the latter really helps her much, since she uses energy weapons, but hey, it fits her lab-girl background). She is currently working on finding a new sheriff for Nipton.

Ooh, I was thinking of starting a new character like that; feller by the name of Nicholas Telsen (badum-tish!), one who wouldn't really pay all that much attention to the main quest but instead wander around the wasteland doing all the 'sciencey' quests he can find; Tag-up Science, Repair and Energy Weapons as his main three skills.
In other news, I'm about 3 quarters of the way through Dead Money. I'm developing PTSD from it, I'm sure I am. So goddamn scary...

I've been playing a new character recently, Giving Eva a break from her wasteland dwellings. Haha.
Sienna was a master theif, using her skills taught from her father to break into safes to get money after being forced to leave Vault 3 with her father. She got out of that game when she was 15 (she is 21 when her game starts) and decided to travel the wasteland.
Eventually she met a Ghoul called Raul, and they travelled the wasteland together. However, during a pit stop Raul find his favorite radio station, Black Mountain Radio, has a faulty signal, so alone he goes to Black Mountain without Sienna; only leaving her a note.
After a week Sienna begins to seriously worry about Raul not returning, so she sets off to look for him.
She had Guns, Lockpick and Sneak tagged. She starts her game just before she meets Neil, where she is already level 6.
Her world is the same as Eva's, so that'll be interesting! haha

That is exactly the same 3 skills that Aurora tagged up and has been working on the most! Which is good because she needed two of them to get E-DE working again. He makes the perfect follower for a techie. Though I am still getting used to the music he plays in combat. It freaked me out at first because I was not sure where it was coming from.

Oh yeah, I remember that that music always made me jump when I first heard it. If you want another good follower for a Techie, I'd recommend Veronica; she fits that theme rather well and she's voiced by Felicia Day. What more could you possibly want?
In other news, in order to do something nice and calming after his harrowing experiencing escaping the Sierra Madre, Courier picked up his main man Boone and went and hit up Quarry Junction. Took out Big Mama Deathclaw with his trusty missile launcher companion Annabel and Big Papa Deathclaw with his favourite, stupidly overpowered hunting rifle in the game, Pacencia (honestly, that weapon is absurd). Most, most satifisfying to see that monster fall.

Courier joined up with the Happy Trails caravan company's expedition to Zion valley today. It didn't quite go as well as planned, but now he's hooked up with a group of friendly tribals from the White Horse clan, and even got himself a new companion in the form of the very charming and amenable Follows Chalk. Currently the two are scavenging through some pre-war buildings to gather supplies for the White Horses.
I'm liking what I've played so far of Honest Hearts quite a bit; Zion Valley looks absolutely gorgeous, Follows Chalk is an absolute joy to play alongside and I'm enjoying the new weapons an enemies (the return of the Yaoi Guai was warmly welcomed by myself). Having played Dead Money, though, I'm slightly worried that Obsidian are going to pull the same 'you must leave your equipment before you play this DLC' stunt with every single expansion. It worked fine for Dead Money, as Dead Money was basically a survival horror expansion, but it seems a bit unnecessary with Honest Hearts; I can appreciate that they don't want you to steamroller the enemies you encounter, but I'm steamrolling the enemies I encounter in any case so I just had to faff about with packing before I went, which was just annoying and silly.

Aurora has added Veronica to her team, and lately the two wimmins + E-DE have been exploring around New Vegas itself. Aurora scored herself a suit of swanky black combat armor from some dead Van Graff thugs. After killing some Fiends, they went north and explored Vault 22. That was pretty neat. I have never seen a vault like that one.
I also found that there is something weird going on with the lighting around Vegas. There is always a haze in the air near the city. It goes away when I use the console to force clear weather, so there is definitely some kind of issue.

All that leave your equipment behind stuff never did much for me. Not after what we go through to

A few nights ago Aurora, E-DE, and Veronica came across a pair of dead Brotherhood paladins (I think in the Repconn Headquarters). So naturally I suited Veronica up in their powered armor. But even though nothing on it says Brotherhood of Steel or has their logo, everyone in the Wastes knows that its Brotherhood armor. Which would not be bad if it were not for all the times people start shooting at Veronica and force me to either kill them or reload a previous save from before meeting said idiots.
So the BS armor has to go. But powered armor is just perfect for Veronica. Are there any non-faction suits of powered armor I could put her in? Or is that something I will have to create a mod for?

Playing FONV makes me want to fire up FO3 again
New Vegas is what made me want to play Fallout 3. On the forums last summer it seemed there was a rash of references to New Vegas. Everyone was saying how fantastic it was - even going so far as to compare it favorably to Morrowind! - and finally I had to see it for myself. I bought the game and, to my complete and utter amazement, I actually
liked it. I liked it so much that I stopped playing then and there and bought Fallout 3 to see if I liked that too. And I did.
Now I'm off playing Dragonborn and my poor unfinished New Vegas character is still standing where I left her last October, waiting for me to come back to the Mohave. I'm so fickle. *shakes head*

Running around the Wastes with Dogmeat again. Had him search for weapons and ammo which worked out nicely, at first. Second try at finding ammo gave me the message telling me he died.
Reload. Back to Megaton. Park him inside. He may get bored out of his mind but at least heīs safe.
No real goal as of now. Hubris Comics was a huge success and I donīt know how to top that. Maybe downtown again...?

Eh, fair enough. I personally take a rather perverse pleasure in seeing things I like in books/games/films get destroyed, killed or otherwise mangled; always nice to see the need to progress the story in the most artistically valid way triumph over the easy option of making things easy to please the audience.

I am the same way as mirocu. Most of my FO3 characters do the main quest in that game far enough to get Three Dog back on the radio, but that is it. In FONV I have absolutely no desire to do the main quest at all. I love open world games precisely because I do not want to run down the rail of a main quest. I would play a Bioware game if I wanted that. I do not see any need to have a main quest in games like the Fallout and ES series. IMHO, the open world itself and the freedom to explore it makes a much better focus instead.

Personally I like seeing the storyline unfold as I go on and have the character's skill and power grow as the eventual threat level presented to you by the enemies increases in your typical difficulty curve.
Besides, isn't doing sidequests also just running down a rail? I mean, they're smaller rails, sure, but they're still rails. Hell, I'd take issue with calling the MQ's for those games 'rails' in the first place considering you can complete them however you'd like...

There are two basic kinds of games. In one the game tells you a story. In the other a game allows you to tell your own story. Main quests in open world games, and linear games in general, are all about the game telling you the story. I do agree that side quests are much smaller rails. But well constructed side quests have multiple destinations, and can be mixed with other side quests to allow you to use them to create a unique story for multiple characters. Or simply ignored completely if they do not suit a particular character's tale. OTOH, a main quest typically has one outcome. It might have two if the game designer is feeling generous. Daggerfall is the last Bethesda game where I really recall a large number of different possibilities. Of course they nerfed that by making them
all happen regardless of what you actually do.
But even side quests are only a minor thing in my mind. I do not play Skyrim because I am so thrilled with getting a golden claw for Lucan for the fiftieth time. For me, it is all about my character, not the story(ies) Bethesda wrote, big or small. I play it to explore the world and get to know my character. It is just my opinion, but I think the main strength and selling point of an open world game is the open world itself. Why bother creating an open world if you expect the players to ignore the open-ended possibilities and instead follow a main quest? Why not just make a purely linear game instead, and save yourself a lot of extra headaches?
Posted by: mirocu Mar 4 2013, 04:34 PM
All in all, main quests are not necessary for me when it comes to deciding what game I want to buy. How many things it forces me to do in order for me to just play it however, does.

Bethesda's has, I believe, been to tell a story within a large open world and through the story, encourage the players to explore it as much as possible through the course of completing the main quest. The structure of their main quests (at least from Morrowind onwards; I can't speak for the earlier games as my only experience with those was getting stuck in the first dungeon in Daggerfall) is one that sends the player roaming all across the game world and sets them on routes that are dotted with all sorts of ruins, side quests and interesting places and considering that there's no time limit on any of the quests Bethesda encourages exploration via the medium of the main quest. The TES games/Fallout 3 have never really been about the development of the main character, who's just some stats and a blank slate for the player to project onto, but instead about building the world; through the main quest they actively encourage players to explore the open ended possibilities instead of discouraging them to. Hell, Fallout: New Vegas takes this a step further by tying almost every side quest and location together into it's main storyline of the war for the Hoover Dam. The main quest becomes the goal, and I, at least, find there's little for me to be interested in if I have no goal or target to reach in the main quest; there's no character development or depth of the main protagonist to interested, the dialogue isn't well written enough for me to actively go and seek it out, Cyrodiil isn't interesting or unique enough to warrant much exploration, the combat by itself isn't enough to hold the games up even if Newgen Fallout's VATS system is pretty fun and now I realise that I don't actually like the Elder Scrolls games very much. Huh.
tl;dr: I think you've misunderstood the authorial (well, developer) intent concerning the purpose of an open world game.

Oh, I would not be surprised if Bethesda intended the game to be played in a linear fashion - following the main quest and only visiting other places as they came across them while going from one part of the MQ to another. Skyrim especially feels this way, in the way that you often have to do certain quests in order to do other, completely unrelated ones (such as how you have to do the Mages Guild questline in order to complete the Gauldr Amulet questline). But my observation about the strength of an open world is not based upon what the developer may or may not have intended, but rather from observation of not only my gaming, but others.
What I have noticed over the years is that people like yourself who approach ES games in a linear fashion - following the main quest and the story it tells you - get tired of it and want to move on. That is no surprise, all linear games are like that. You can only do the same thing so many times before it is stale. I loved the KOTOR games, but once I played each a few times, I do not want to again. Been there done that after all.
However, those people like myself who ignore the main quests in Bethesda games - people like Acadian, Mirocu, Pseron Wyrd, etc... - we play the same game for years, and still love it. The reason is because we invent our own stories for our characters, and do not care what story Bethesda wants to tell us. This is why I think the real strength of these games is in the open world and freedom it gives players. Because the people who love the games for years are embracing that aspect of them. We do not expect the game to provide us with character development or depth. We provide that ourselves with our roleplaying. In fact, the developer trying to force that can be a detriment, because their ideas might contradict with our own. For example, I found Mass Effect to be very claustrophobic, because I could not play the character I wanted to. I did not want to be a space marine. I did not want to be a human. I did not want to be a secret agent. My ability to roleplay was constrained by the developer's attempt to force their character upon me, rather than allowing me to create my own. I played that game once, and now it collects dust. By contrast I still love Oblivion years after I first started playing it.
Now I am not saying that one way is the 'right' way to play the games, and one way the 'wrong' one. What I am observing is that the people who love the games for a long time appear to be the ones who ignore the main quests, and instead use the game as a sandbox to play in.

Downtown. Dupont area.
Most Super Muties and other baddies gone and not many new arrivals since last time I was here. After some fruitless re-searching of the area I decided to head back out into the wastes where I can roam free as I please. First visit; RobCo Factories and Tenpenny Tower. The latter proved to have an interesting ammo supply but not the 5mm I wanted.
Standing at the tower gate, gazing into the deadlands. Wonder where I will go next....?

@Subrosa: Hmm, I think I see what you mean. Don't really find the idea immensely appealing, to be honest, but whatever works for you.
In other news, Courier has been lending a hand around Zion Valley, helping the Sorrows tribe out, aided by Waking Cloud. I've always argued that one of the best parts of New Vegas is the companions you can recruit, and Honest Hearts really seems to be working that angle; so far, both Waking Cloud and Follows Chalk have become two of my favourite companions in the game, even though I've only just had them tagging along.

I agree with this 100%. As I've said before (probably
ad nauseum), I view Bethesda's games as a kind of blank canvas on which I paint my own pictures.
Bioware and Obsidian's games have a really short shelf-life with me. I have a really hard time staying interested. I tend to enjoy these games once maybe, and that's about it. Some of them I've even lost interest in before I finished the first time through. It was that way with Dragon Age: Origins. I lost interest in the game about 3/4 of the way through. But I plan to try again. It's just that, at some point in these linear games, it begins to feel like work. It feels like a chore. If I can't determine my own fate, chart my own course, get into my own trouble, there is not a lot
there for me, nothing much to hold my interest.
Roleplaying games are a creative outlet for me. I'm not interested in being a passive observer. I'll watch television before I watch video game cut scenes. I subscribe to the Amazon Queen school of thought concerning main quests:
do away with them altogether. Focus that energy and attention on developing interesting and engaging guild quests and miscellaneous quests and random quests. A Bethesda game without a main quest - but with interesting guild quests - would be my a near-perfect game.

I lost interest in Dragon Age within an hour. I forget whether I have Origins or DA2, though. I basically installed the game on my PS3 (that took damn near a half-hour iirc!) and then watched the opening intro. Started at the very beginning (moving my character around) and immdiately lost interest. Turned off DA and turned on TES: IV.
I do wanna give it another chance, though, at some point.

I'm doing it with my Fallout one too...Well...Except for this one...
Michael Saint-Grey found an old note in his pip-boy and with a great sigh, stored all but the most essential of items and headed off to the D.C. ruins...
--------------------------------
"Who the hell are
you? and why are you in power armour? You're not one of ours..."
"Why do you care? You're Brotherhood of Steel aren't you?"
"Lyons Pride." the blonde lady extened a gloved hand, "Sarah Lyons."
"Catchy name, little pretentious maybe." Michael smiled behind his T-51 mask.
"You as handy with that rifle as you are with the sarcasm?"
"Whoa yeah."
"You wanna help or get in the way?"
"Maybe both...Wait!" Michael said as Lyons turned her gun in his direction, "Joking! I'll help...Super Mutants?"
Lyons nodded and raised an eyebrow, "Whoa yeah."
The captain turned her head upwards and shouted, "MOVE OUT PEOPLE! COME ON!! LETS GO! Come on you, point and shoot carefully, we're headed for the Gee-enn-are building."
"Hey, what a coincidence." Saint-Grey said, checking his rifle.

Yep, I'm all main-quested for the first time ever...I'm not sure why I never did it, really...It was amazing!!...
I love Fallout 3 hugely, more than New Vegas or Skyrim...Yet I always stayed away from the MQ for some reason...
But no more!!...
I absolutely loved it...The whole end bit where you go over the bridge with the big-guy...Whoa!!...Hell yeah!!...
And now, I'm part way through Broken Steel...It's so brilliant to be doing new stuff after all this time... ...
I've never been too sure of doing The Pitt, but I'm thinking it's a bit better than having part of your brain removed for Point Lookout...
I did Mothership Zeta ages ago...It ruined my first character...Though I can't remember why that particular fact sticks in the mind...As in, I remember finishing MZ, but what happened after that, I can't remember, it's so long ago now... ...
Sadly, Rivet City is ruined on this one...The shopkeepers are all stuck in the "never starting wedding" glitch...

But still, I've absolutely loved this whole MQ/Broken Steel thing, so much so that my new wandering pursuit quest thingie is going around collecting sensor modules and cameras for the Brotherhood of Steel labs...Just so I can keep working with them...Sorta... ...

Posted by: McBadgere Apr 10 2013, 03:51 PM
Well, I've done Operation Anchorage on every runthrough...I've done Mothership Zeta once...This time was obviously Broken Steel...
But no, I've never done either The Pitt or Point Lookout...
The Pitt doesn't sound all that good tbh, I've read about it in the guide, and it doesn't really grab me...While Point Lookout does sound fun, but the idea that my character would have part of his brain removed right at the start, really put me off...
Maybe I can get past it...I'd need to in order to do Old World Blues on New Vegas...So...*Shrug*...
So I've now done three of the Fallout 3 ones and two of the New Vegas ones...And enjoyed them all to varying degrees...Though MZ caused a big mess to my first character and I abandoned him...I think it was something like every time I came down from the spaceship, laden with goods there'd be a Deathclaw waiting for me, and then there would be a big freezing episode...*Rollseyes*...
Posted by: SubRosa Apr 10 2013, 05:03 PM
The Pitt was alright. The Steelyard in it is a fantastic place to explore! Going kamikaze on all the raiders is also a lot of fun. The end reward of the ammo press is very handy, as it allows you to convert nearly any type of ammo to any other type of ammo. So you never have to worry about running out of bullets again. Plus it gives you a few new guns, and the auto-axes are just awesome melee weapons.
Point Lookout was fantastic! The whole brain thing bothered me too, but I have a mod that circumvents that. But even without the mod, it does not actually effect your character in any way. Plus, you can just not do the main quest and that will never happen anyway. There is still a lot of neat exploration you can do in PL. It was my favorite of the FO3 dlcs.
Mothership Zeta I only tried once, and gave up after half way. It just breaks the genre too much. I play FO3 for the post-apocalypse vibe, not an X-Files kidnapped by aliens one. I did like the Samurai Armor and Sword though. I modded those in the regular game for my character Tomoe Gozen to use.
I never did do Operation Anchorage, or finish Broken Steel.

Cracked out my copy on New Vegas recently. Now I'm free of working with my aunt I have time to make up for! haha.
So may character is called Lori. She is a courier, obviously, who is 30 years of age, but she is not on a hellbent mission to find the guy who shot her.
Instead, she saw it as a wake up call, realising that she has to live her life and not be afraid of the wasteland.
Her tagged skills are Guns, Sneak and Medicine. She prefers to avoid confrontation if nessesary; usually only attacking humans if they attack first. She may grow to get over this in time. She is physically very weak and not very suseptible to damage, so she knows a few Medicinal skills just in case of an emergency.
Her starting traits are Small Frame and Trigger Disapline.
A bit of backstory:
She lived quite a secluded life in Primm with her sister, Belle. They were very close, more life best friends.
Lori had always been a courier, but one day Belle decided to join her on one of her contracts.
However, the package turned out to be a lure as what awaited the girls at their destination was a group of cannible ghouls. Lori survived, beating and shooting her way through the attackers... but unfortunatley Belle perished; eaten alive and succuming to the trap.
Lori was devastated, returning home to Primm and remaining locked in her home for days. She couldn;t imagine a life without her sister... she didn;t want to. She had considered taking her own life.
Luckily for her, Johnson Nash noticed something was wrong and managed to just about convince her that life was worth living.
Nearly a year after her sister's demise she was given the package that would get her shot.
Sure, should she ever bump into the guy who shot her she might have her revenge, but until then she is going to live her life and see what she may come across.
She's currently in Primm, trying to regain some order by attempting to rescue Deputy Beagle.

I won't lie, Lori's backround is loosely based on that of a TV character that I've always had admiration for; but the characters are very different.
Trigger Disipline is a great trait for Lori. It increases your accuracy by 20% whilst decreses your firing speed by 20%, which is good for Lori's form of combat.

Dear Belle,
Guess what? I was on a job as usual and I ended up getting shot in the head! It doesnt sound as dramatic as it was
it did happen a week ago. I dont think the guy who did it had a grudge against me
I think he just wanted what I was delivering.
I dont have to tell you that it was pretty terrifying
but in a way I was subtly hopeful. A part of me, a part that I thought I had gotten over, wanted him to kill me
but a bigger part was fighting to survive.
Luckily I did. Survive, I mean. A doctor in the town of Goodsprings patched me up
he seemed like a good guy.
He led me in the direction of a woman named Sunny, who gave me a rifle to use for protection as I prepared to go back out into the wasteland.
But before I left Goodsprings I realised something; I almost died. I should have been dead. It kinda scared me into an epiphany
I really need to learn to start living.
Ever since you died Ive been in the same routine; wake up, go on a job, go home. Over and over again.
Nothing exciting ever happened. Ill admit, Id always been too scared to let anything exciting happen.
I wanted a sheltered life
. But I dont think I want that anymore. I dont want to live in fear
I want to be brave. I want to fight for something.
So Ive decided to jack in the Courier business. Im still in Goodsprings at the moment, but Im going to return to Primm and explain to Johnson about my plan to leave on an adventure (if thats the right word?)
Itll be scary
but I know I should do it. No more terrified Lori living in her bubble. Its time I lived my life.
Its time I made youre death cause something positive.

My name is Alphonse Moretti of Vault Thirteen. I cant believe this has happened to me. Of all the people to throw out into these blasted lands, the Overseer picks me! I know Im not the model citizen of the Vault, but to throw me out here with a sword hanging over the Vault? Why me? One of the Engineering Crew would have been a better choice than me! Im just a damned Shift Supervisor!
The cave outside the door was filled with rats and bones. Unlucky few that didnt make it or those that tried to weather the apocalypse? Ill never know. I moved the remains to another section of the cave, stacked rocks on as many of the bones as I could. Poor bastards deserve a burial.
Its dark out there now. And empty. The Manual mentions possible agoraphobia, but damn! The sky is terrifying! Took every ounce in me not to break down right there and step back into the safety of the cave. Made a fire with scraps of what was around and a flare. Ill try and start my journey at first light, Thirteen is counting on me.

Dear Belle,
I stayed in Goodsprings for a couple of days before headed out back to Primm. I thought Id help out around the local bar and help with some farming of the locals. To be honest, I think I needed to give myself an excuse to stay
to gear myself up for venturing out alone.
I said goodbye to everyone in town and ventured toward Primm; which luckily for me wasnt too far from
Goodsprings. The guy at the general store sold me some enhancements for my rifle; a scope and silencer, which are perfect for sneaking.
During my walk I found a small shack called Jeans. I found a pretty cool wasteland wandering outfit inside (thought youd like to know with your fashionista attitude haha). Now I dont have to wear this Vault 21 outfit the doctor gave me.
Anyway I made it to Primm with little hassle, only to find that it had been taken over by some convicts that had escaped from the prison! The NCR were stationed to deal with the problem but they dont seem to be doing anything.
I thought Id try to do something, so I stood at one of the NCR watchtowers to observe the town; and yes, there were convicts everywhere.
I had them in my sights, rifle in hand and could have executed a couple of them
but I couldnt. I dont know why but I froze. Not only did I freeze, but I had a total breakdown.
Id been forced to kill people before; but only in self-defence.
Something about it just felt wrong.
I felt guilty for taking the life of someone who for all I knew could have been innocent. Just because they were prison escapees didnt mean they were bad people? Does it?
Im still outside Primm now, sitting with a couple of NCR guys
I just needed to write to you. Haha.

Dear Belle,
I decided to wait until the evening before rethinking about Primm. I decided that I would sneak under the cover of darkness and try to get to the casino
thats where Id been told the residents of Primm were held up.
It was almost completely successful in me sneak, remaining fully undetected from the Convicts dotted around the place
. Until I was spotted by a Convict keeping guard at the casino door.
I ran as fast as I could back to the NCR base, chased by Convicts who were opening fire.
Luckily for me a few NCR soldiers saw the trouble and waged a gun fight against the convicts. Why they didnt do that in the first place is a mystery.
Do I feel bad that I didnt assist them in their fight> Kinda. I didnt feel brave. I felt pathetic.
But what was done was done.
After the Convicts were defeated I headed to the now safe casino.
Relief overcame me as I saw Johnson inside. HE told me all about what happened in Primm. Apparently some guys called the Powder Gangers overtook the town; albeit slowly.
Johnson told me Deputy Beagle was being held captive in the Bison Steve hotel
but I couldnt do anything.
There were too many of them I imagine.
So I told Johnson Id try to persuade the NCR guys to take the Hotel
but that was a complete flop.
The NCR refused to even try.
So now it seems that, for now, Primm is helpless
but one day I will return to save my town.
I dont know when (or how
) but I will.

Letter #4
Dear Belle,
I left Primm the next day. As much as I hated to do that, I had no choice. I will come back eventually and help save my friends
I dont know when, but I will. I cant help but feel like an extreme coward though. I feel sick just Leaving Johnson, Ruby and the others there
but theres nothing I can do alone.
So I decided to just follow the path and see where the wind takes me. I have no real destination now; no mission to accomplish. Im just going to see what the wasteland has in store for me.
However, as I followed the path toward the Mojave Outpost I saw a small building nestled on the side of the road; it was surrounded by a bunch of guys I did not like the look of. I wasnt ready to fight, so I decided it would be best to avoid them.
I doubled back, heading toward Primm and taking the scenic route toward the Outpost. I travelled up past the old drive in theatre, encountering a pack of coyotes as I travelled further. Animals have never bothered me, so I exterminated them with ease. Strangely I saw a blockage of cars with weird words graffitis onto them saying things like Go home, Courier. It was strange. Was it aimed at me? I doubted it.
I turned back and continued toward the Outpost, eventually stopping to find a Coyote den with a dead NCR soldier inside. Although I felt bad I took his service rifle; much more powerful than my Varmint.
This is where my day takes a turn for the worst.
I continued to walk and I came across a group of feral ghouls. I was frozen for a moment as Id obviously seen what they could do before. But I used it to my advantage. I imagined that each ghoul I saw was one that was involved in your death. It gave me the strength to shoot the suckers dead.
Near where they were I found a huge lake full of radioactive waste. Beyond the lake was a small house. Im not sure why but I decided to explore.
I took my pistol and edged past the waste, sneaking past some extremely dangerous looking ghouls that I wasnt stupid enough to mess with.
When I made it to the house the only thing of interest I could see was a dead Ghoul, this time a normal, non-
feral. To say I was disappointed in the risk Id taken for a practical dead end is an understatement.
Never the less I found a few supplies and a medicine book which could be handy. Once Id taken what I wanted I left.
Nothing too exciting happened after that as I made it to the outpost. Im sat at a NCR bar now as I write you this letter. Ill be heading to bed soon I think
if this cowboy chick across the room stops giving me dirty looks, that is!
Love you.

Letter #5
Dear Belle,
After spending the night at the Mojave Outpost I decided to travel south toward Nipton. Big mistake.
Whilst walking to the town I encountered a few guys who shot at me, which I just ran from (they were pretty lousy shots.)
I also encountered this guy called Tomas who looked a bit rough for wear. He, for some reason, told me a story about this girl he was travelling with who tried to kill him and steal his star caps. I dont know what he meant.
Then I reached Nipton, and it wasnt a pleasant arrival. The place was pretty much burned to the ground.
As soon as I entered the town I bumped into a guy who said hed won a lottery. I tried asking him what he meant, but he looked at me like I was an idiot. He then ran away.
As I continued through the hellish town I saw guys literally crucified above burning debris. The smell and sight alone was enough to make me want to vomit. The I was stopped by, guess what? Legionaries.
A bunch of them were outside the town hall. I was terrified. I couldnt run as theyd obviously kill me. Luckily, for me, the leader of the group only wanted to talk. He said I should spread the word of what Id seen. I didnt respond. I remained silent; I was too scared for words.
The Legionaries then walked away, headed in the direction I had planned to go.
Instead, I decided to give them a head start and holed myself out in an abandoned house for the evening.
I tried to do some good, exploring the town and looking for survivors
but nothing. The legion had well and truly destroyed this town and its community.
It was heart-breaking
Anyway I better get to sleep now
god knows how Ill do that considering where I am. Ill find a way.
Hopefully.

Y'know what I really wish? That New Vegas had Cowboy Power Armour or something like that; power armour with one of those really snazzy dusters people used to wear over the top of it. Complement the whole Western theme New Vegas has going perfectly.
Plus considering that Courier's been rocking a Desperado Hat and Authority Glasses since the start of the game, it would look totally awesome and stylish.

Business as usual in the Capital Wasteland; scavvinī, lootinī and shootinī.
Iīve been particularly good at salvaging those Raider outfits lately. Before I discarded them and only took ammo and weapons. My collection of Nuka-Cola caps is growing rapidly

I totally forgot how much I love this game!
In the CW Eva had just escaped the overrun prity project after witnessing her fathers demise. She and the others escaped.and ended up at the Citadel. Eva decided that she'd spend the night, then make her way back home to Megaton to decide what to do with her life.
However, at the Citadel Eva met a woman called Cross. Cross revealed she knew Eva's father and insisted on accompanying Eva on her journey, as her somewhat protecter.
Eva now has a companion!
Posted by: Eva May 20 2013, 02:39 PM
After a few days contemplating what to do with her life, Eva decided to assist Moira Brown reserch her book, The Wasteland Survival Guide.
Moira tasked Eva to head to a monefield located in a ghost town to xheck out how bad it is. Although wary, Eva and cross headed north to the minefield.
On the way, Eva came across a Scrapyard, finding an abandoned dog, Which she immediatly fell in love with. The feeling was mutual, resulting in Dogmeat becoming Eva's second companion.

Sounds like she embarking on the same journey I did in what seems a long time ago now
Just raided an abandoned shack up by a gas station. Upon entering two captive radroachers were found, along with some good loot!
Before that I helped some friendly ants protect themselves from hostile ants. Always nice to meet someone friendly out there, even if theyīre ants

I (and Dot) agree. In fact, yesterday she talked down the AntAgonizer and turned her back to the light side. The thing with Doc Lesko though, is that he did not desire redemption. He admits he made a mistake with his mutagen, that made the ants breathe fire. But he refuses to admit there was anything morally wrong with killing everyone in Greyditch. So he got a buckshot brain enema.

He may lack the ability to show regret or emotions, but most brainiacs do and many are not evil still
Iīd say if he shrugs it off and goes ahead with what heīs doing or even use someone unwilling as test subject, thatīs another thing..
SubRosa edit: I remember not liking him and if I deem someone as pure evil than I whack īem, simple as that. But for some reason I didnīt so I guess I didnīt see him as pure evil. Donīt know why when you put it like that..

Lesko reminds me of a nuclear scientist (Edward Teller?) whom I saw an interview with about the post WWII nuclear testing program, especially of the hydrogen bomb. Where other scientists like Robert Oppenheimer expressed regret for their work on nuclear weapons, and even tried to lobby against their use, this other fella said they were great. He had no remorse for the U.S. soldiers and Polynesian civilians were were irradiated by his bomb tests. He was ticked off about the ban on testing, and wanted to continue it indefinitely.

It was Edward Teller. He said that at the end of the war (WWII), many people wanted to stop the research on nuclear weapons. But he wanted to continue for the sake of pure knowledge if nothing else. He said he never regretted any of it, and that he was proud of his part in creating nuclear weapons (including the hydrogen bomb). That stands in stark contrast to what Einstein said
"If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker."

Here is a thought. Let's put together a Wasteland Soundtrack. What are your Fallout songs? Not the ones in the games, but other songs. Songs about the Great War, or about living in the aftermath.
Here are a few I can think of to start of.

http://youtu.be/etAIpkdhU9Q (This could fit just about any villain in the game).

In other news, Dot, a.k.a the AntAgonizer, completed the Wasteland Survival Guide today. I was disappointed that it was only the moderate level book, even though Dot did all of the quests (rather than lie about them), and did all of the optional bonus objectives.
Oh wait, I see what I missed. I forgot to hack the Robco mainframe after putting the widget in. I went back and redid it, and now I got the best book.
Which also reminds me to mention. Dot - the new AntAgonizer - had her first autograph seeker today. She is AntTastic!

I guess. Dot's been wearing the AntAgonizer suit since she turned AntAg I back to the light side - carrying on her her place. She may not be the superhero the Capital Wasteland wants, but she's the one it needs right now. http://i.imgur.com/SnZ1PlJ.jpg

I notice that you are sitting on a mountain of caps too. That makes me wonder, what do people do when they have more money than Tenpenny? It kind of makes scavenging feel pointless. The AntAgonizer has been just ignoring most loot these days. She even took a pass on all the pristine guns in the National Guard Armory because, she did not have a use for any of them. A little while ago I decided to start donating it to charity. She gave most of her money to the water-beggar in front of Megaton, so he could buy himself a place in Tenpenny Tower or Rivet City (I used the console to remove 10k caps, and then used the disable command on the beggar to make him vanish).

Eva is the same. Eva has a lot of money, which leaves her not really wanting for anything. Luckily the money comes to good use as, she is a very lightly armored Melee fighter, stimpaks have become a necessity, so she is never without them thanks to the money in her pocket

I don't see anything about that in those pics. The AntAgonizer never worries about rads. Her suit has some rad resistance, and after she pops a Rad-X her rad resistance is maxxed out. She rarely gets more than 1 rad for wading through water, and she does not even take any rads from eating things like mirelurk meat or drinking nuka cola.

Besides, as a superhero, Dot has a legion of adoring fans who look up to her. What kind of message would she be sending if she was not doing her part to help the world get back on its feet? Blowing off the heads of super muties is only half the battle after all (though it is a very fun part!).

Today the AntAgonizer tangled with Super Mutants all around Vault 87, visited Little Lamplight, and got roped into escorting Stinky, or whatever that putz's name is, to Big Town. I swear if she was not a superhero, she would have killed that annoying twit!

I keep thinking that someday I will play an evil character and go the cannibal route (there is a perk for it after all), but I can never actually bring myself to do it. Some things are just too much, even for a game.
I just checked, and the AntAgonizer now has 8k and change. Almost time to enfranchise another water beggar. She already bought homes for the ones outside of Megaton and Rivet City. I think the wikia said there is one at Tenpenny Tower, but I do not remember seeing a beggar there.
Anty also gained the Quantum Chemist perk. So now she can turn ten regular Nuka Cola's into a Quantum. I have not tried it yet though. Been too busy http://i.imgur.com/0d5k7ZV.jpg

Well not much is new with Eva Bree...
Back to playing New Vegas for a while... missed hanging out with Cass and Veronica. It's strange. I play as an older Eva Bree in Fallout NV (I also plan to do this in Fallout 4... I just hope it's a reasonable time jump
), and I've noticed how much different she looks than in Fallout 3. It's like the wasteland has taken it's toll on her looks. Her ruby red hair looks more sun-bleached and her skin is less vibrant.
Annyywwaayy
Eva just removed everything she could from her Lucky 38 penthouse and is attempting to decorate the place as best as she can. It's harder than it looks! Haha.

Anty has finished Broken Steel. With that her story feels done. So I have moved on to a new character: Mielikki. She is a melee character, and just finished Operation Anchorage.

No more Anty!??
Posted by: SubRosa Jun 9 2013, 05:28 PM
No more Anty. To me, characters are stories waiting to be told. I cannot keep playing them after their story is done. It just feels empty. So that is when they ride into the sunset, live happily ever after, or whatever trope is appropriate.
Mielikki did not click with me. So I fired up my old ghoul character http://i.imgur.com/QuthXtN.jpg and restarted her game from where she left the vault. I am having a good time exploring the DC ruins with her. So far she has only scratched the outer edges, and the banks of the Potomac. She just discovered Rivet City. But the plan with her is to explore every location in DC.

Are feral ghouls friendly to Medusa? (Iīm thinking mods)
Posted by: SubRosa Jun 9 2013, 05:34 PM
They are indeed friendly. I started with a ghoul mod I found on the Nexus, which I further tweaked. Feral Ghouls are friendly, and radiation does not harm her. Instead she gets some minor attribute increases to Endurance and Strength as she gets more irradiated. However, she also slowly loses radiation as time passes.

If I made the muties friendly then there would hardly be anything left to shoot!
Other ghouls do say the Frankies are a problem though. There is a random encounter where you meet a group of ghouls who say they were trying to make it to Underworld, but could not make it through the mutants. So maybe it is only the ghouls in Underworld itself that the muties leave alone?

I buy that, they only cover for those particular ghouls.
And you know, there would still be raiders, deathclaws, radscorpions and mole rats to shoot and maybe you could even have a behemoth as a friend?

Got back to the Capital Wasteland today. Random scavvinī in the D.C area proved fruitful, both in terms of caps added in the pocket to ammo added in the guns. Today I also switched the Xchtlowu (whatever) 5.56 rifle in favor of the great awesomeness that is the Vulcan minigun!!
6000+ rounds should do it for now, left another 5000 rounds in my weapons locker in Megaton. Should I run out of my 6000+ rounds without finding new 5mm ammo, then Iīll probably revert back to the Xcjrtfglg (whatever) 5.56 rifle

I FINALLY PASSED 50.000 CAPS!!!!
I fast-traveled to Vault 108 and from there hiked along with an Outcast patrol. They came into a fight and the brainiac with the missile launcher decided it could be fun using it as a close range weapon, effectively blowing up his own team member. I looted the Raiders and the Outcast member whereupon I got heavily overencumbered.
Thus I could only walk and lost the rest of the patrol. I decided to head back to Megaton when I stumbled upon another Outcast patrol, fighting off some raiders. After all were killed there was but one Outcast left who fell a remark I didnīt like...
Upon selling some of the stuff to Moira Iīm now past my halfway mark to 100.000 caps!

Tīis a big day today! Cause today not only did I pass the 300 hour mark, but I also encountered Uncle Leo for the second time!
It was around the waste disposal place. I had been walking along with an Outcast patrol since Old Olney from where we went south-west and later straight west.
I saw him in the distance and mistook him for a regular mutie (not surprising, really) and shot him with my Blackhawk. Upon doing that I saw who it was and ran up to talk to him. I was afraid the Outcast patrol was gonna engage him but apparently they know heīs friendly. He even helped out killing off some Talons, but the one Outcast with a missile launcher shot at the same time, taking away a huge portion of Leoīs health.
Anyways, thatīs my 72 cents for today!
Cents? What are those? You mean caps right?

Once again re-scavvinī proves to be a good idea!
Iīm currently going through L.O.B again and I have so far found lots of scrap metal, pre-war money and other goodies I apparently missed out on first time through. Iīm also able to collect alotta stuff I simply

But what surprised me was that I found yet another Quantum!!
It was

Apart from that I was also able to collect 12 regular Nuka-Colas (so far) and 4 pencils. Yes, I have just started on another collection!

Congrats! That mirv makes a big boom, even though you can only shoot it once or twice in the entire game.
I have the same problem with places like the National Guard Depot or the Wheaton Armory. I think the final rooms in both require a lockpicking skill of 100, which few of my characters ever got to.

The Depo only requires that you find the holotapes. But of course that can be hard enough

The problem is that it uses something like 8 mini-nukes per shot. Anty saved up every mini-nuke she came across, and still only had enough ammo to shoot the thing twice.

Well I have so much to write, so much that I've already done with my two Fallout 3 characters. Problem is, I've got to go to bed soon. Got a big day tomorrow; we're actually going to D.C.
I may as well introduce my two characters. Start there, I suppose.
Cho Zen~Wahn is an Asian male. I have heard that in Fallout 2, the PC is the "chosen one", but the name of my first character happens to be pure coincidence. Cho's got a clean cut, Bruce Lee kind of look to him. I'll get a screen shot eventually.
With Cho, I put a lot of points into Unarmed Combat, because I wasn't sure how good I'd be with a gun. He's also a Scientist (this is just cool) and a Doctor. All of this makes sense to me, since Cho's dad is also a scientist and a doctor. I forget what other skills I boosted for Cho, but he's got the Daddy's Boy perk. I think he's Level 3.
My other character is a Hispanic female, named Marge N. Overra. Get it? Margin of error. Yuk yuk. I went to New Jersey a few days ago, and I kept thinking that I'd like have a female character, so here she is. Compared to Cho, I also gave Marge a lot of points in Medicine and Scientist, but I boosted Small Guns instead of UC. I gave her the Quick Learner and Gun Nut perks, too, and have subsequently boosted Repair, Explosives, Speech, and Melee Combat most of all. Marge is Level 4.
I am playing FO3 on Easy difficulty, since I'm a n00b. I also do a few things differently in this game, compared to TES. I use the compass, for instance, sometimes with the quest marker on. This makes sense to me--the PC's got a Pipboy on his/her arm at all times, and it's got a ton of information on it. I like to think my characters are constantly checking the compass out, therefore.
I also use the Crosshair (noooo!) But hey. This game's all about survival. In TES, I feel the crosshair is cheating (for me) but I have no prob using it in FO3. I can't aim worth a damn without it while using a gun.
I believe Cho was helping some kid get rid of some fire ants last I saw him. And Marge is doing a bunch of minor quests for Moira Brown: the latest is killing a bunch of mole rats her a stick which is supposed to repel them.
I did not think I'd enjoy FO3 as much as I have been.
Posted by: SubRosa Aug 14 2013, 07:25 PM
Welcome to the Capital Wasteland! Moira's quests are a lot of fun, and will take you to a lot of places before they are done. I take it that Cho is in Greyditch, slugging it out with the giant, fire-breathing ants? That is a tough one, especially for a hand-to-hand character! But the reward is a good one (a stat boost).
You also may have noticed that you can only pick up Galaxy News Radio in the DC ruins. If you go to Chevy Chase, you can find radio station and help the d.j. fix his relay. Not the easiest quest, but afterward you can hear GNR everywhere.

Awesome, thank you. Thanks both of you. Yes, Cho is in Greyditch, you are correct. One question: is there such a thing as a flame-resistant suit? Those fire ants are frickin' dangerous.
Marge N. Overra cleared Farragut Station, and has now found um.... Tepid Sewers, killing more mole rats. I like Moira's quests, to be honest. I'm not ready for anything really tricky, yet. Marge has run into some super-mutants, those things SUCK. OMG, I thought she was gonna die.
She has died once. I let it slide, though, I need to learn stuff before I get too serious. I think Cho's game will be pure DiD, though.
One more thing, good LORD I get the shivers while playing this game!
Marge is creeping around TS. I darken my TV screen if she's underground sometimes (just like I do in TES games), so when a mole rat starts
running toward her, I can't help but get goosebumps & shivers in my head!
I hope I never become jaded of this game. I think maybe I'll become a little jaded perhaps. But right now, even a black ant or a vicious dog can get my adrenaline going!
Posted by: SubRosa Aug 15 2013, 02:02 AM
I don't think there is any armor that makes you fire resistant. But if you finish the quest you get a 25% flame resistance! I know not much help now though. Those fire ants are so darn tough, I usually avoid that quest until my characters are higher level, and have lots and lots of ammunition. Mines are also very good against them. Same with grenades. Finally, the Entomologist perk really makes a big difference in that quest (it gives you +50% damage against giant insects).
Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 15 2013, 04:55 AM
Oh okay, thanks. Having a fire resistance will help, actually. There was some humanoid who threw fire at Marge the other day. May have been a flamethrower. Whatever it was, it's clear that ants aren't the only thing to worry about, so far as fire goes. Fire is more dangerous in FO3 than in TES.
Marge went back to Megaton for a few days. Brought some scrap metal to Walter, who runs the Water Processing facility. Um.... she also slept with Nova at Moriarty's, and brought her new dog (Dogmeat) with her from Megaton to Silver's ranch. She's walked the dog from Silver's place to Megaton and back at least 3x now. Dogs seem tougher in this game than in Skyrim, but I don't wanna lose Dogmeat to some stupid mutant or whatnot.
Oh, there was a robot running around in the wasteland firing lasers at Marge. The robot claimed she was an intruder or something. Marge managed to get above the robot (on a boulder) and then threw a couple grenades at it. The first one landed too far away, but the second one landed right near the robot BOOM! and down it went! That was an awesome moment.
Marge is doing yet another quest for Moira Brown. Now she's supposed to get into a place filled with mirelurks. She killed one of these before the quest started; they seem kinda slow, but I'm sure they're dangerous if Marge gets too close.
Apparently the Mirelurk lair is in the middle of the Potomac? That's what the Pipboy is saying. Marge bought a radiation suit, just in case she has to get into some radioactive water.
Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 15 2013, 06:53 PM
What is Lookout, mirocu?
I just got home, we went for a bicycle ride today! Perfect weather outside, so now I've got my door open, and am ready for some Fallout 3.
Marge N. Overra got a new quest from Moira Brown, but it's way too far away from her present comfort zone. It involves retrieving some books from Arlington Library. Too far away.
So she's retrieving a Stradivarius violin. Hold on, did I spell that right? Yep, Stradivarius. That's the problem with having just one screen, I have to change channels to look at the game. Anyways, she's supposed to get this violin, which is also kinda far away, but it's not as far.
She's figuring she can take it one step at a time. If things get too tough, she can always turn around. But this is a Bethesda game, so I'm sure she'll find plenty of things to do along the way..

Make sure you follow my link. You know you want to Renee! Seriously though, the wikia is very handy for figuring out how skills and perks actually work, when perks are available, what their requirements are, and so on. It really helps with building an uber toon to beat the game with (which I know you are going to want to do right?)
That violin is not easy to get. The opposition is tough. Take care not to wander into the town next door (Old Olney) until you are really high level and can dish out a pile of damage.
Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 15 2013, 09:14 PM
I haven't looked at the Wiki yet, but I have gazed at the map. Thanks for all the tips. I kinda doubted Marge would get anywhere near her goal, and I was right. She came across a band of Raiders (I think) except they were all packing these super machine guns. I forget their official name, these guns. Marge only managed to kill one of the raiders, but then I realized she had no stimpacks. Dammit, I think she left them in the Super Duper Mart, or even worse, way back in Megaton.
She got beat up pretty bad, so now she's back in Farragut station, drinking radioactive water to heal up.

It was probably just 10mm Submachine guns. They can be pretty bad for a low-level character though. Especially if more than one raider has one.
Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 15 2013, 11:34 PM
That is exactly what they were: 10mm submachine guns.
Marge has hit a wall, it seems, now that she's Level 5. It's looking like ALL the raiders she finds in unexplored areas are now packing submachine guns, and (yes) there's always several of them. She keeps winding up limping away from this place, running from that one with a concussion. I appreciate the challenge but she's getting frustrated.
And she either used up all her Stimpacks, or she stashed them somewhere, but she can't find 'em There are no forms of income ATM (everywhere she goes, she can't make any headway) and while she had hundreds of caps last week, she blew it all and now is struggilng for currency. Damn.
So she went back to Farragut Station, and is now in the Tenleytown part. Dealing with ghouls & radroaches. AT least ghouls carry bottlecaps often, as well as simpacks and other necessities. And they aren't smart enough to wield a weapon.
Posted by: SubRosa Aug 16 2013, 12:02 AM
Sounds like a good time to hook up with a follower. There are several in the game to be had depending on whether you are good or evil. There is Dogmeat of course, though I can understand why you don't want him to get killed. Jericho in Megaton is a good choice for an evil character. Depending on where you are in the main quest there is Butch, Fawkes, and Paladin Cross. You can buy Clover at Paradise Falls but I don't think you have the caps for that. Same with Sarge RL3 at Robco, and Charon at Underworld.
And start using those 10mm submachine guns! They are good early game weapons, as you have noted from the pain they inflict!
You can buy stimpacks from Moira and the doctor in Megaton. You can also pay doctors to heal you.
Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 16 2013, 12:55 AM
Yes, she has found Dogmeat, and (you know me well) I don't want him to die. Marge keeps walking him from Silver's ranch to Megaton and back. Whenever she stops in one of those two locations, she picks up the dog and takes him for a walk.
I have noticed he can face more adversaries than a Skyrim dog. A Skyrim dog would have already been dead! But Dogmeat did take on multiple raiders, and multiple mole rats, while Marge was walking him from the scrapyard to Megaton the first time.
My first character Cho already spoke to Jericho; he's really a pr!ck. Lopov told me Jericho can only been bought by an evil character, just like you said. So that rules Jericho out. Marge (unlike Cho) has a small habit of stealing. She'll take bits of food from people's homes and stuff. She also stores a lot of her things in the Water Treatment locker, so she gets a steady stream of negative karma here and there. Despite this, the Pipboy is still describing her as "Good" A Dignitary.
Marge has found a submachine gun, by the way. But she don't need it down in the subway, so far.
Posted by: SubRosa Aug 16 2013, 01:14 AM
If you disarm the bomb in Megaton, you can steal everything in the game is not bolted down, set children on fire, murder, loot, and pillage, and your karma will never drop below good. Vice-versa with blowing Megaton up on the opposite side of the scale.
Dogmeat is tougher than Pittsburgh steel. If you have Broken Steel installed he is neigh-indestructible (I think only kyrptonite can slow him down then). It's because every time you level up with Broken Steel installed, he gets a huge amount of health. He can get up to 15,000 hit points. After a while he can literally be nuked multiple times and not break a sweat. Usually when I find him in the scrapyard he has already killed the three or four Raiders there single-pawdedly.

Welcome to the Capital Wasteland, Renee! Fallout 3's a great game, and I hope you have a good time with it.
If you're stuck in a rut, there's a couple of things I recommend doing:
1. Go subway spelunking in the DC ruins. Stick to the edge of the ruins (I wouldn't recommend going deep into the city until you're at least level 7 or 8) but that can be a good way to get caps, XP and ammo. Also, you can play some Russian music in the background while you play and have a dual Metro 2033 and Fallout 3 experience at the same time! That's like playing two great post-apocalyptic games at once!
2. Follow the Potomac to Rivet City, which can yield a good number of quests and places to explore.
3. Head into the house of that kid you meet in Greyditch (I think that's the name of the place with the ants); there's a Chinese Assault Rifle and some ammo just lying in there, which is an absolute boon to a low-level character.

You can, in fact, bounce back in karmic terms from blowing up Megaton; my character did it, and then later when I asked Fawkes if he wanted to travel with me he replied "No way, brah! You're a douche!" (my recall of the exact dialogue is teensy bit scrappy). So I had a complete turnaround; helped out people in Rivet City, joined the Regulators and gave lots of water to the guy who always wants water. Ended up with good karma and a completely reformed character, which is probably the most fun roleplay I've ever done.

My guess is that you did the mq and activated project purity by yourself, and/or blew up the Enclave command center at the end of Broken Steel? Those are the biggest karma cash cows in the game. I usually never do the main quest beyond fixing up GNR, so typically never get either. Even so I have never been able to even stay neutral. After a while I started using a mod that made it harder to get good or bad karma, and I have always had good karma. Granted, my characters never enslaved people or blew up megaton, but they often stole everything in sight, and several did not hesitate to murder people they felt deserved it, like Doc Lesko in Greyditch.

Hey Mustard, good to see you. My first character, Cho Zen~Wahn, started the Greyditch quest, and got inside the boy's house. I don't remember if he picked up that assault rifle or not.
Thanks for all your tips. Marge N. Overra went from Farragut to Tenleytown stations, and spent several days trying to take down a group of raiders camped outside the Metro exit. A couple of them had rocket launchers. Marge had to run back to this one Navy cot a couple times to heal up, but she's a persistent one. She kept wanting to jump back into the pool!
She eventually got 'em all. The final one was the funniest; he had a rocket launcher, and he would stand in this one spot behind a car. Marge managed to get a rocket launcher of her own from one of the dead raiders, and tried to surprise-attack him using VATS, but her Big Guns skill sucks (it's only 16), and the launcher wasn't in such good condition, so she missed the final raider by a mile.
OH NO!
She began running away, expecting any moment the dude would blow up yet another rocket near her, but then we heard this giant BOOM! Turned around. The final raider had fired his missle right into the car in front of him apparently. Took the car and himself right out!
Marge also found some sort of recuiting center, so far full of Protection robots. She's blown most of them up with grenades.
Love this game.

One thing about RL-3 outside the RobCo factory. If you want him you need to have neutral karma. Just so you know. Iīm surprised you found Dogmeat so soon btw. I didnīt until much later in my game. Have you tried making him fetch ammo or weapons for you yet?
Posted by: Renee Gade IV Aug 16 2013, 04:49 PM
Dogmeat already died. It's Marge's fault, she was trying to bring him to the Super Duper Mart. There happened to be some raiders with submachine guns camped outside, and this NEVER has happened before. Anyways, one of the raiders hit the bus that's always sitting there. Marge saw this and ran, but she couldn't save her dog.
I did not get him to fetch anything, but I have heard this can be done.
Oh, and I found out why my game is so hard, why there's Raiders with rocket launchers and whatnot. It's because the DLC "Broken Steel" comes with the game. A friend has told me to try to delete this, but the disc's files are not seperated. In other words, the DLC is not seperate from the game itself; it's all one big 5.5GB file.
But it's okay. This game is challenging, and I need a challenge. I'm enjoying it. Marge is making headway, slowly but surely.

Never. Absolutely not. It's survival, man, don't you see?
Oblivion is pretty much a cakewalk for me right now, and I predict that once Saga gets the ability for Spell Creation, it might get tougher as the levels go up, but it'll still be somewhat of a cakewalk. FO3 is
not a cakewalk. I am fully focused and .... and ....
immersed in this game.
And no reloading. Dogmeat's gone.

Oh, and I gotta ask. What box did you get?
I have GotY. Sucks that I can't delete that particular DLC, but I'll be okay.
The National Guard Depot (the place I called a "recruitment center" yesterday) turned out to be a dead end. Place was full of robots and gun turrets. She found some new weapons & ammo, and also a few Stimpacks, but she couldn't get past the final robot, despite the fact that she crippled its arms, it could still fire at her.
She then ran back outside, and headed a different direction. Found a place with a couple Super Mutants standing nearby, but she's low on ammo so she didn't even bother to fight them. Then, she climbed some nearby steps, and found a trio of Raiders up there. Once again, one of them had a rocker launcher. She got a critical shot to his head, but the guy didn't die.
So what she did is ran back towards the Super Mutant camp,, and then made a sharp left. Eventually raiders saw the super mutants and started fighting with them. The mutants lost, so Marge went and sought their camp later on. They didn't have anything she could use, though. Dammit. She's got 19 bottlecaps, and just 4 energy pulses in her laser gun. She just found a 10mm handgun, too. At least she's got something.
Marge is now in a place called "Shelter". I'm feeling good about this. I'm not sure what sort of enemies are here, but I'll tell you about it later.

Yes, I have Point Lookout. And also Anchorage, The Pitt, and Mothership Zeta. And Broken Steel. The box says my game has all the DLC, is this correct?
Yep. You have every available DLC. As Garth said; Game on!!

Well I have some good news. Marge disarmed the bomb in Megaton. I was expecting some lame reward: 50 caps and some tin cans, maybe, but WOW I didn't expect that her reward would be as grand as it is! And with her own personal robot? Holy flip!
She already got a new haircut (nice touch), I think she chose "Rough Night" this time.
Right now, she's too worn out to go rushing off again. She's gonna settle down for a while. I might just look on that Wiki, SubRosa, to see how long it takes for stuff to respawn. Wouldn't mind doing the easier stuff again, like Springvale Elem. School, the Super Duper Mart, and the Metro stations.

Wow, sorry to hear about Dogmeat. He has never died on me, even against Super Mutants. If I were you I would just reload. But I know that's not your style.
Marge could try the road south from Megaton to the Library. Just follow the highway that is west of Greyditch. Its mostly lined with Raiders, so the loot is good. There is one bunch near the end with a rocket launcher and a turret though. But there are also plenty of locations to explore along the way as well, like the Nuka Cola plant, and the Red Racer factory. You might also try Operation Anchorage along the way. Its a computer simulation, so the gear you have does not matter. You can only use the things you get in the sim. It is not exactly easy, but the end rewards are pretty substantial.
