https://deadline.com/2020/07/fallout-television-series-based-game-franchise-amazon-studios-westworld-creators-1202976079/. Amazon has bought to rights to make a Fallout TV show. It is all really, really early, so there is nothing specific about it yet. I am hoping that Dogmeat will be the star.

Eeeeeh, I’ll try to have an open mind, but I’m not expecting much.

Oh come on, they might get Shia La Beouf to star. Or Tom Cruise!

A Boy and his Dog?

I tried it. I did not make it past the first five minutes of casual rape and then the lament that the raiders murdered their victim, since then the 'hero' couldn't have his own turn on her.

Yeah he was a scumbag. Definitely not a hero. Especially after what he did at the end.

Back on topic, I just wonder what they would do with it? Like what they are going to base the story on. It has potential, but there is a lot they’ve got to get right.

One would imagine it would be a classic Fallout story of a Vault opening up for the first time and sending people out to scout around. Or the even classicer Fallout story of a Vault kicking someone out to find a water chip or some other macguffin. TBH, that would be a good starting point for a story that would have the character(s) traveling around and discovering the world for the first time. It would be convenient from a story telling point of view, because that way the audience can learn how the new world works at the same pace as the characters.

Hmm, yeah, I think I could see it working a bit like the CW’s
The 100.

I am most certainly intrigued by it and part of me is definitely excited, but a little concerned that it won't translate well into a TV series. I'm always somewhat skeptical of video games turned into movies or shows. But apparently it is being made by the producers of Westworld (which I haven't seen but I always hear about how great it is), which makes me feel more optimistic. I think the setting lends itself to being a TV show much more than The Elder Scrolls, anyhow.
They need to stay completely away from the stories of the games. Unless maybe there are some indirect references to the Master, the Institute, Project Purity, Reclamation Day, etc., I think it'd be a bad idea to have the actual games' stories be a part of it. One exception would be the NCR, depending on when and where and how they do it. There's so much else that can be explored, though. So many states that haven't even been touched, and we've gone as far as, what, 210 years past the bombs falling? We could even explore outside the U.S. as well.

You covered some of my thoughts here. So many things they’d need to get right. I’ve seen the first and second seasons of
Westworld and it honestly feels like a “living” video game. I think if anyone can pull it off, these producers have the best chance of doing so.
