I LOVE Chevelle. They are a 3 person rockband out of Chicago, Illinois (USA). What's really cool about them is that the guitarist/singer and drummer, Pete and Sam Loeffler, are brothers. And the Bassist, Dean Bernardini, is their brother-in-law.

Anyone heard of them/like them?

I guess I was wrong; NIN's "Year Zero" was made more interesting by remixes. And it isn't as lethargic as I thought.

My favorite of all-time is probably Derek and the Dominos, which was together for only one album--a brilliant, all-time great album. Eric Clapton played lead guitar and sang, Duane Allman also contributed on guitar. The rest of the band could hardly be called famous but they were all skilled pros.

My current favorite is the Ohio-based power duo The Black Keys. Dan Auerbach plays guitar and sings, Patrick Carney plays the drums. Outstanding old-school blues rock.

I tend to like individual artists more than bands... but definitely Bruce and the E Street Band, Cowboy Junkies, B-52s, probably others that slip my doggie mind at the moment.

QUOTE(stargelman @ Apr 27 2007, 02:29 PM) *

I must say I find it most peculiar what people will call "Rock" these days. To me, a band like Iron Maiden is metal, while Metallica is trash and Black Sabbath is proto metal. But oh well.

My thoughts exactly as I was reading the first few posts. Those bands mentioned were not exactly rock. I have to disagree with you on Metallica, though. Metallica used to be trash metal, back in the day that they still lived off the riffs written for them by Dave Mustaine after they kicked him out. Later, when they ran out of riffs, they became what they are now. No more than a rock/pop band, in my opinion. Nothing wrong with that of course.

Anyway, I don't listen to rock much, but I like Uriah Heep, David Bowie, Rainbow and Deep Purple. So basically old school stuff. I'd mention Ronnie James Dio as well, though his music officially belongs to the metal genre when he went solo after Rainbow and Black Sabbath. Which brings me to the band Heaven and Hell (= Black Sabbath with Dio on vocals instead of Ozzy since Sharon Osbourne sued them) which I also like.

As for metal, I like a lot from regular heavy metal to progressive and death metal. In no particular order, I listen to:
Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Demons and Wizards, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, Running Wild, Gamma Ray, Symphony X, Ayreon, Grave Digger, Savatage, Ensiferum, Thyrfing, Falconer, Dark Tranquility, Savatage, Virgin Steele, Agalloch, Evergrey and Therion. I've probably missed a few.

Haha, nice to see that my Agalloch recommendation was appreciated. Did you check out Primordial yet?

As for rock bands, if I haven't stated yet, they would be: Porcupine Tree, Thrice, Hurt (Tool fans should definitely check this band out), and my friend's band Union of Lanterns.

I can't remember, so either I didn't find it interesting, or I haven't tried them yet. winkgrin.gif

Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Its a pity the band isn't a band anymore, and the members have all aged so considerably that they can't quite hit the notes they used to. I basically revere Creedence, but I don't take much to any of the recent John Fogerty performances.

As for a modern rock band, I'd have to say Foo Fighters, though I only really listen to tracks from "The Colour and the Shape".

My favorite band is the Who. I like a bunch of other stuff from that period, like Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, and whatnot, but I won't list all of them because I don't have the time, and, let's face it, you won't read it.

All time favourite band: Led Zep. No two ways about it.

My favourite song, however, is Little Wing by Jimmy Hendrix.

By and large I'm a big fan of classsic rock and eighties music, though I do also enjoy alternative and even a bit of indie (don't judge me!).

Mallet, how are Snow Patrol rock?
