Tornados are truly the fiercest storms on the planet.

they are the most awe-inspiring and terrifying things a human can ever witness.

Truly unbelievable. Do take care to stay safe, mALX.

We are in a lull between storms, the first storm veered off and hit Oak Ridge.

I just wanted to pop on here and say ... Treydog is getting hammered. An enormous storm cell is passing over his area, and a tornado has been spotted there on the ground moving northeast at 65 mph.

There has been no reports from that area yet of damages.

Good Luck, Treydog !!

I gotta get back off here, just wanted to let ya'll know I was OK so far and about Treydog.

Record breaking over 13 hours of continuous tornado warnings across the state of Tennessee, and we were not hit as hard as Alabama. These pictures depict only my area and the counties that surround it. They do not include Chatanooga, which suffered much more damage than our area.

All safe here. Power was out for 3 hours last night and we actually had "Golf ball size hail" first time I had ever seen it.

treydog and mALX, what a relief. Some days you’re just glad that you’re not on the news.

Has there been a TheOtherRick sighting?

We're watching the sky, here. System should be over us and gone by tonight.

Omg, I was so busy with an RP at Beth yesterday that I didn't even come here... I was totally unaware all of this was going on! I'm so sorry!

mALX, I am so glad to hear that you are safe. That's so scary! Tornadoes are one of the things that simply terrify me, and thankfully in Wisconsin we don't get slammed with them very often... Those pictures you posted are amazing and terrifying.... My mom used to live near Knoxville, but she moved back up here to WI after the death of her great love... I visited her there, and it's beautiful, but I could never live in an area that gets hit with tornadoes so often... So scary! Thank God you are okay!

treydog, grits, mALX, Rick--and anyone else in these storms--I hope everything continues to get better, and I hope all of you will continue to stay safe! My prayers are with you.

TK--that video was truly hard to watch... but thank you for posting it... sad.gif

A friend of mine at church got a call from her daughter last night - their house in AL was demolished by one of those tornadoes yesterday. Fortunately the family weren't there, they were up here in the upper Midwest.

We get more than enough tornadoes around here. I remember when one skipped over the college campus and touched down on the other side of the ridge. Go figure, you'd think it would plow right though campus, since it occupies the top of the highest ridge between Cedar Rapids and the Mississippi River. But no, all it did was clip the corner off of the Pizza Hut at the eastern foot of the ridge and left the rest of the town and college untouched except for some damage from flying debris. Lucky!

I've been through microbursts, which are as close to tornadoes as you can get and still not get the funnel cloud. Bad enough, believe me!

Like everyone else, I do hope Ricky is absent due to increased work load and not because of these scary atmospheric freaks.

H.E.R - good to hear Julian is still terrorising the deadlands, I'll be waiting when you get the chapter into shape.

All those in the south of the US - hope storms abate and don't do any more damage. Rick, give us a shout if you're passing by.

Trey - golfball hail sounds unpleasant. I'm imagining smashed windows, dented cars and bruised arms...

You didn't get any reports of funnel clouds, did you, Trey? Updrafts like that, and I would not be remotely surprised to hear there were. Marble-sized hail is enough to do some pretty good damage to your roof (know that from experience, but thankfully our insurance has agreed to pay for the repairs).

Bordering Texas (highest volume of Tornadoes in the U.S.), we occasionally get a few twisters to the east. It's scary enough knowing those things are close, I don't envy those who dwell in the Alley. You people have guts. wink.gif

Oh, and Syl, I think it's a lot more difficult to listen to the sound-byte of the Xenia storm. That tornado killed 34 people, it was one of the most violent in world history. Still, Wichita-Andover was nothing to scoff at. I'm pretty surprised that tornado did so little damage to McConnell AFB.

I agree with you there--I could never live in those areas that get hit the worst. Too frightening for me...

I am glad to know so many of you are okay, but seeing that no one here has seen or heard from Rick yet really has me starting to worry... I hope he's okay. We should definitely keep him in our prayers.

Wait--there he is! I just happened to see his name down there at the bottom! smile.gif

What a harrowing day yesterday! All is fine here for me and mine. It was a near miss. The tornado that devastated northern Birmingham miraculously lifted for a few miles before touching down again, sparing my mother, aunt, and grandmother. We have power and internet again here. Tomorrow, our company is donating a day of work to help with the clean up. The loss of life and property is unbelievable here. Please add the people of Alabama to your thoughts and prayers.

Glad to know you're okay! Everyone was really starting to grow concerned! I will definitely keep you all in my prayers--seeing the various pictures and footage of the damage, and hearing about the loss of life is just heart-wrenching. There are no words that seem fitting in the face of such tragedy...

All the tornado damage is crazy. I'm in Midwestern Arkansas and a tornado did some serious damage about five minutes down the road from here...all we got was some flooding and hail damage to our vehicles. Its crazy to see the damage around the rest of the state and some of the other states close by...its the worst damage I've seen around here in a long time.

Luckily it just missed us but for a little while I was sweating pretty good. blink.gif
