QUOTE(saqin @ May 14 2011, 02:08 PM) So, one of our birds went missing a bit more than an hour ago. Our two cockatiels were out of their cage and someone forgot to close the door, next thing we know the female has flown out. I don't particularly like the bird, but it's no fun that she's gone. I wouldn't want her to die or anything. My family are running around in the neighborhood looking for her while I'm at home in case she comes back. So yeah, it's quite melancholy at home right now. GAAAAH! If they go to their cages every night at around the same time, keep the windows and doors (and cage door) open if she hasn't returned by then, most birds return to their roosts by habit. Good luck in finding her !!!

Thanks mALX. My parents apparantly saw her when I was writing my previous post. She was beeing attacked by magpies(I think that's what they're called). Since then we've seen magpies, but not her. It's 9 pm now here in Sweden so if she's still alive she's probably curled up somewhere to keep warm and won't be doing a lot of noice. We've placed a cage with food in the garden, but it's to cold outside for us to leave a window open since we've got many other birds at home. Dad is going to go out and search for her in the morning when he gets up, I'll probably go as well.

QUOTE(treydog @ May 13 2011, 09:46 PM) O-din't you know we are all a band of merry punsters here? If we keep it up though, mALX may "snatch us Baldur-headed" to use an E. TN phrase.
Ysmir- we would certainly be a sorry-LOKIng lot then.
all these Scandinavian mythology jokes are hilarious! Keep it up! QUOTE(Thomas Kaira @ May 13 2011, 11:56 PM) Bethesda is currently undergoing litigation. A former navy pilot has sued the software studio claiming that Oblivion caused him to have a seizure that got him kicked out of the military. Warranted, or just another case-in-point of Americans trying to solve all their problems with a nice hot lawsuit? Seriously? I've seen tons of video games with more effects that would cause a seizure than anything in Oblivion. Either this person is just using this as an excuse to make money, or it never even happened. Whatever is the case, it sounds ridiculous! People these days need to lighten up! Geez! And TK--not all of us Americans are sue-happy over here. I find it absurd that McDonald's has to put "Caution: Hot" on the coffee nowadays--like, anyone who gets coffee should know that it's HOT! Stupid people... QUOTE(Thomas Kaira @ May 15 2011, 12:13 AM) New Mexico... is... a... U.S... state.... Anger... Rargh... When did Mexico decide to try setting up a colony? Why does nobody tell me these things? I mean, I know Jersey set one up. So did York. And Hampshire. But I can't remember seeing Mexico in my list of countries that set up oversees colonies in the New World which later became part of the United States. Sorry, I think we either have to change the name, or sell off New Mexico. I favor the latter. I know it's a difficult choice, but we simply cannot hold on to distant overseas possessions in the current age. This post has been edited by Captain Hammer: May 15 2011, 07:11 AM

Thanks for the support everyone, she's now safe and sound at home. She's just finished eating and is probably going to have a good nights sleep. About eight o'clock this morning my dad went out and looked for her, after a while he heard her calling and found her in one of the oaks in the park close to our home. Pretty much all day we've been trying to lure her down again, both with food and with Toddy(our male cockatiel). One of our neighbors who's a good climber even tried to go up and get her, but she just flew away. Anyways, she stayed in the park all the time and this evening when my mom and me got home we found the house empty. So mom called my sister who were able to tell us that they'd caught her. That was about 5.30-6.00 pm. She's tired and was hungry, but the only injury she's got is a small one on the top of her head and it's not bleeding anymore. She's probably going to have an uneasy stomach for a while, but hopefully that's all. This post has been edited by saqin: May 15 2011, 05:33 PM

Great news saquin! What a relief to have her home again! Especially for the male - he's probably tickled pink to have her back once more. Wonder if she'll brave the big, bad outdoors again? Or will she be content to just peek outside every once in a while? A cat I had always tried to sneak outside (my first two only went out with me, on long leashes but under my supervision, my current pair are indoors only). She loved to come out with me when I worked in the yard. Until one day when a thunderstorm blew up from nowhere and announced its arrival with lightning almost directly over head, immediately followed by the loudest clap of thunder ever. She didn't know where to run! As soon as I opened the door, she couldn't get inside fast enough! Ever since, she was content to remain indoors. It's amazing we weren't struck by lightning, as the old house was on the second-highest point in town, and we were under a huge old silver maple on the crown of the hill. Close call that time! My current two have no interest in heading outdoors, though the Queen will try to sneak out into the garage (she's not allowed there, either, just because you never know what your car's going to leak!). The Knave gets upset if the front door is open too long - I don't blame him because he was born a barn kitten, got hit by a car on New Years Eve and spent the night hiding somewhere before his owner found him and brought him to us for euthanasia. Long story short, he's made his home with us and is determined to stay indoors the rest of his life. TK, I had to chuckle at your comment about NM. I always counted it as part of the lower 48, and never got confused about it. But when I was planning my very first real vacation (to Santa Fe and Taos), people kept asking me "When are you getting your picture taken?" "Do you have a passport?" "Aren't you worried about Customs?" -- "Uh, no, you only need a current driver's license to go there." "Uh, it's north of the Mexico border, same side as us." "The only thing I need to worry about is the heat of the peppers."

Congratulations, Captain. May your unemployment end the minute it stops being fun. Good luck, ureniashtram. Um, the only way out is through it? Congratulations, bbqplatypus. That song made me laugh. I’m glad the bird came back, saquin. Now you can go back to sort of not liking her with a clean conscience. TK, that was funny. I’m reminded of how we used to make our Hawaiian friends’ heads explode: So, when are you coming back to the States for a visit?
