I've spent the day packing all our things into boxes. Such fun. Still, its not as boring when you have a few people round to help you Oh, and i've heard from BT, we SHOULD have our internet set up within the week, so I shouldnt be away for too long.

Well I'm just back from a damp trip up the hill. Got some walking done but mainly in the valleys to avoid low cloud. This is probably the best picture of the trip, especially for those who like horses. (click for MUCH larger) Though I also quite like this one This post has been edited by Olen: Jun 19 2011, 09:56 PM

Look behind you and see an ever decreasing number of ghosts. Currently about 15.

Good luck with the move, grif11!
Beautiful pictures, Olen. Put me in mind of Alaska.
On a different subject, I have mentioned a couple of places that I am working on migrating various fan fictions to my Kindle. It is more convenient in many ways- and I can carry so many of you with me. (Easier than lugging a PC...)
Anyway- for those who might be interested, all you need (besides a Kindle) is MobiCreator (from the Mobi Pocket folks). It is freeware and allows you to convert .TXT or .DOC or .PDF files to the Kindle format.
They can then be ported to the eReader via the USB cable that came with it. So I will have my full quota of Buffy, Teresa, Julian, Jerric, Lissa AND MAXICAL! ... wherever I go.

QUOTE(Lady Syl @ Jun 20 2011, 07:30 PM) I've been very busy lately, and now I'm sick... And my daughter, lovely little girl that she is, has taken over in our home and wreaked havoc while I've been unwell... I woke up from my nap to find chips smashed all over the living room carpet, sugar all over in the kitchen, water spilled, she climbed up to get muffins out of the cupboard and got those all over the place... If three-year-olds ruled the world...there would be chaos... Get well soon! And bless you and the little one. And I think that your last statement may explain much that has been confusing to me of late... regarding the state of world affairs... hmmm.

QUOTE(King Coin @ Jun 21 2011, 11:42 AM) Get well Syl! Maybe invest in a shop-vac? One with a large enough nozzle and container to hold the remains of large pieces (possibly of furniture that has been dismantled) or whatever, lol. @ Olen - Those pics are amazing! Gorgeous!! Olen, beautiful pictures, and beautiful place! I'm jealous! Lady Syl - little ones are precious - some of the time. I'm with Mary Shannon (from In Plain Sight on this one - kids are better left to someone other than me. Hopefully you're all better now! An update - the abscess on my elbow is finally resolved. I'm left with a lovely red and purple bruise, a little bit of puffiness where the skin hasn't quite reattached to the underlying tissue, and stiffness in my elbow that prevents me from full flexion. Went to the orthoped yesterday, and he was very happy with the way things went. I'm done with antibiotics and with seeing doctors for the time being. He did tell me to keep flexing the elbow until I get full range of motion back, and already I'm seeing improvement daily. The stiffness will likely resolve before the discoloration does, but that's good. I'd rather have function back before looks, know what I mean? Oh, and I've finished finals today. Here's hoping I did well. Amazingly enough, in spite of all the computer problems and elbow problems I've had the past four weeks, I've managed to keep my grades up around 97% We'll see how final exams affect the final score, though. TK, still dealing with the wildfire?

QUOTE(treydog @ Jun 22 2011, 05:55 PM) Excitement as Casa Treydog yesterday evening. Lights flickered briefly and I teased Mrs. Treydog about throwin a toaster in the bathtub.
She said- "Nope. Lightning."
I looked out and saw very dark clouds and wind really whipping the trees. A few minutes later- three loud thumps on the roof.
Trunk of willow tree had snapped off about 20 feet above the ground- and was lying across the roof. When I inspected this morning, a second smaller piece had also broken higher up from another section.
Roof does not appear damaged- the tree was kind dying back anyway- so less weight. May send pictures if I can get decent ones.
Chain saws and ladders for me this weekend. Woo Hoo.
It came to us after it left you I think. Trees down, house looks chewed up, no cable TV, internet, or phone for over 13 hours !!! It's a mess. Oh, and 92,000 without power in the Knoxville area. This post has been edited by mALX: Jun 22 2011, 11:27 PM

QUOTE(mALX @ Jun 22 2011, 06:12 PM) QUOTE(haute ecole rider @ Jun 22 2011, 06:59 PM) It was probably the same system as the big one we got last night.
Fortunately all the upwind trees are little ones - no falling on our roofs 'round here! No damage to the townhouse, either. Still, we had tornado watch until 1 am. Fun. How the heck are we supposed to see a tornado coming in the dark??
Nighteye Potion. Wanna make me some? No, better not - whatever's left of a certain someone's house will likely get blown up!
