QUOTE(Grits @ Jan 5 2013, 04:56 PM) QUOTE(mALX @ Jan 3 2013, 09:06 PM) My puppy Boo Boo has a chipped shoulder blade and stessed tendons in that leg. She has to lay down quietly and be walked outside for the next week, plus take analgesics.
So how the heck does a puppy chip the hind side of their shoulder blade? She had to be running outrageously fast and turned just before hitting something really solid.
Oh no! Poor Boo Boo. How in the world are you going to get her to lay down quietly? It isn't easy. So far a Kong with peanut butter inside works for a little while, that and throwing the other dogs outside.

QUOTE(King Coin @ Jan 5 2013, 09:56 PM) QUOTE(mALX @ Jan 5 2013, 08:55 PM) Four more days of winter break here, classes start again on the 9th.
Weird. Our semesters always begin on Mondays. Makes sense to do that. I know, I really don't understand this starting in the middle of the week either. I've seen them start on a Friday, a Tuesday - I don't get it!

QUOTE(treydog @ Jan 5 2013, 07:34 AM) @mALX- Poor puppy dog! Is there any livestock in the vicinity? Thinking of a headbutt by a goat or even a calf.
Anyway- here's hoping for a quick and pampered recovery.
This vicinity is all farms, but she was in our 'dog yard' with only the other two dogs. It is an acre fenced just for them to run in. They do collide, but it is really hard to imagine one hitting her hard enough to chip her shoulder blade like that and not be injured themselves. Neither of the others showed any signs of injury. I think she probably hit a tree at full speed. Really hard to imagine a shoulder blade getting chipped, they are solid bone! Thanks for the well wishes for her. She was a bit clingy today, doesn't like not being able to get out with her other two doggie friends Jax and Dixie.

Sick. Sudafed works wonders on the congestion and the pounding face-ache, but not the sneezing...
Soak a washcloth in as hot water as you can stand, wring it out, fold it, and drape it over your nose. That stops sneezing. Sounds good! Thanks!!

QUOTE(King Of Beasts @ Jan 6 2013, 07:48 AM) Does anyone know any home remedies to help fall asleep faster if you have insomnia? I've tried teas and all that stuff and it doesn't work for me. I really don't want to resort to taking pills to fall asleep at night, but I'm tired. Last night I only got 3 hours of sleep.
Tea has caffiene in it, that will keep you awake. A good strenuous exercise outdoors followed by a hot shower can relax you, exercise releases endorphins in your brain (make you feel good/happy/relaxed). Eat something filling: Mac and cheese, pizza. A meal of turkey or chicken with mashed pototoes and gravy (not one you cooked yourself, try KFC) makes you drowsy. Also, reading in bed helps. (a real book, not a Kindle that has an LCD screen). Really? KFC makes me everything but drowsy. I get what you mean though. Thanks, I'll try that. Even the laughing gas at the dentist couldn't knock me out(yes I'm terrified if the dentist and had to get my wisdom teeth pulled so they used laughing gas because I threatened to bite off the dentist's finger) so I'm not sure that will work, but I'll try anyway. I really hate being an insomniac.

I really hate being an insomniac. Insomnia is caused by tension. When you get stressed, it releases adrenalin into your system, and that makes you feel hyper. Whatever is stressing you - if you can't resolve it, then find some way not to think about it when you are trying to sleep.
