I need to get my head out of the internet. I starting researching any scientific basis for the TES convention that children's race matches their mothers, and discovered non-Mendelian cytoplasmic inheritance, and organelles, and maternal mitochondrial DNA, and ... My brain hurts!

QUOTE(Colonel Mustard @ Feb 28 2013, 11:57 AM) Goddammit, the RPG group I was with had to cancel the cowboy-themed RPG game we were going to play, one which I was really looking forward to properly hamming it up in a Southern accent in, as well! I do declare I'm mighty disappointed, y'all! Should have included GRITS, southern breakfast of champions.

I do declare I'm mighty disappointed, y'all! I did that with my Grey Mage character in a Shadowrun game, that I mentioned on a different topic. It was lots of fun. I do declare I'm mighty disappointed, y'all! It isn't nearly as fun when you hear it from people every day where you live. For instance to me, Brits have a fun accent but southerners don't. I live in the south part of the USA and get to hear people constantly mispronounce words all the time and it drives me nuts. Maybe it is just because I have a belief in clear speech?

QUOTE(Eva @ Feb 28 2013, 04:53 PM) I'm from a part of Britain where we all sound moderately 'posh'. We have the occasional 'cockney' moments come through though One is a British citizen living amongst colonials, and one learns to speak flaffly posh to the lesser folk when one needs to. Especially when I'm on the dog and bone to my colleagues in Texas, who can't understand what I'm saying. At least I don't need to wear a whistle to the office over here. I try hard to properly pronounce everything (Arkansas here) because as Liz noted, people take you more seriously. I work with a guy from New Orleans and it is a constant struggle to decrypt what he's saying about 90% of the time. Texas accents are often strong but can actually be understood.

QUOTE(mALX @ Feb 28 2013, 06:32 PM) *
It is a little known fact that the three wise men that visited the manger after the birth of Jesus of Nazareth were actually from East Tennessee, and were a part of Tennessee's Volunteer Fire Department.
That conclusion was drawn by their first words as they entered the manger: "We have come from afar," which (as everyone in East Tennessee knows) means "We have come from a fire."
