I don't know 100% but my guess is to basically make things easier to moderate when the forums were more active.

I may be mistaken, but I think it was a holdover from yonder days of very slow connections, where people's connections would slow down when threads got bigger, so they were capped at 200 to make sure they didn't eat up too much bandwidth.

I was at two mostly outdoor museums all day, and it snowed, rained and sleeted on us (and all of the lovely spring flowers) the whole time. What the heck!
