I wasn't able to get into the third Mass Effect. The camera was obnoxious and the combat was meh (and seemed buggy too). I lost interest before the story got going I guess.

It was a pretty good game, although you will come to find out that the vast majority of your decisions, which the game has been tracking since the first game, are meaningless and you'll get one of three generic endings.

The ride is very fun and I enjoyed the story but the conclusion is very disappointing. It is better if you download the "extended cut" DLC, which was and may still be free. Bioware ended up having such a major backlash because of the horrible ending that they actually put their for profit DLC on hold and tried to fix the ending so that people would stop complaining.

Yeah, I was waiting through all the tutorial for the part to come where Shepard can go "Cerberus? Hell with this. I'm placing you all under arrest right here, right now!" But it never came. sad.gif So I put the game away for a while.

In the end I decided to assume that Shepard does have a control implant installed which prevents him from openly rebelling though his morals and unhuman force of will lets him snipe from the sidelines. (yeah, they say they didn't, but come one. It's Cerberus.)

Besides, there's what Kiln said. On the bottom level, Cerberus has a lot of people who are just plain simple decent folk. These are the guys who buy into the idea that humanity has to go it alone, without all the crazy cyborg-zombie/mind-control/biowarfare baggage. (I'm guessing that part isn't public knowledge) And in the Terminus systems, where both games have taken place so far, that is actually the case. The Council maintains a strict hands-off approach there, and the Alliance seems unable to maintain a large presence as well.

I'm guessing though that the Illusive man manned the Normandy with these 'nice Cerberus' folk not just because they're good at their job and have a vested interest in the Terminus systems, but also to keep Shepard from having a reason to go off the rails and replace the crew with unknown personel the Illusive Man couldn't control. Cause face it, there's still a lot of nasty stuff in Cerberus' closet, as much as Miranda wants to deny it. Heck, there's a character whose sole background can be summed up as "Remember when Cerberus was a gang of mad scientist/terrorist/serial killers without a conscience? Here, let us remind you".

But one question remains unanswered. When did the openly outlawed 'arrest/shoot on sight' group decide that it was a good idea to have an official paintjob complete with identifying symbol and a transponder that actively tags the Normandy as a Cerberus vessel? blink.gif

One thing I forgot to mention that Mass Effect 2 really improves upon compared to the first game is the dialogue sections. Shepard actually seems to emote more now (or maybe it's the amazingly exaggerated features I gave him). In the first game I mostly remember two guys standing in front of each other while their lips move. Here you have scenes where Shepard chills in a chair or nods and chuckles at what the other guy says. And then there are the times you can interupt the conversation for awesome.

Maybe I'll try the 3rd one again at some point. One thing that annoys me though is my character was breaking cover (in a cover based combat game) to reload. What?

I enjoyed ME2 despite being a part of Cerberus. I kind of summed up being part of them as "well [censored], they just brought me back to life... I guess I can see what this is like."

Never had that problem. I played it on the 360 though. He'll only break cover if you pan the camera too far around so that he's no longer looking over it, at which point the game assumes you're going to leave cover.

I'm on the 360 for ME3 too. It ought to be patched up as well, as I was connected to Live. Interesting.

Welp, I finished the trilogy. I have to say, the third game was quite fun. Even the ending was decent as far as I'm concerned. At least till you get to the 'pick your deus ex machina' part. That was just a bit too blatant.

Oh, what am I saying? The climax was downright awesome and the final boss fight was the best in the series. Mostly because it wasn't a bossfight I suppose. More of a swarm kinda thing.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS (Mass Effect has a pretty lousy track record as far as I'm concerned. 1 gives us a guy on a floaty thing followed by a Geth wallclinger on steroids, 2 gives us Arnold Schwarzenegger.) END SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I really like the theme they ran through the last game as well as the mood. Heck, I actually got tears in my eyes at points. The decisions from the previous games come back but like Kiln said, it doesn't really matter in the end. Everything is abstracted down to a number on a sliding scale.

Regardless, good ride, decent ending hampered by execution. Farewell Spacewiz, it has been a pleasure. May you and your new underlings quest for many trinkets and help many random old ladies cross the streets salute.gif

I'm playing L.A. Noire right now. I like the idea behind it and the facial expressions are amazing, check out those eyebrows! That said, it looks like it is linear as hell. Yes guy, I can prove you were at the murder scene. We found your gun (ownership confirmed by checking with the gun store), that fired the right type and number of bullets in a trashcan three steps from the crime scene. What do you mean I have no proof?!

It was fun but lacked the depth that the last game had. You can only play as a human and there is hardly any effect on the story by the things that you do. Basically the story is much more linear, which is why I was disappointed by it. I also disliked certain major changes in art direction between games.

Don't most of us already play humans IRL anyway? I am always disappointed when fantasy or sci-fi games only give you the round ear option. It really drove me nuts in Mass Effect 1. As soon as I saw an Asari I knew that was what I wanted to play. I had to mod ghouls into FO3 in order to play a nonhuman there.

That was what got me playing the original Warcraft. You could actually play the Orc side against the humans! But they spoiled it in Starcraft by taking the choice away again, and making you play all the races.

I actually try to play as human when given that choice in games. That way I can feel like I´m in the game world a little better and forget where I actually am. That said, you all know what the one and only ever race I picked in Oblivion.... tongue.gif laugh.gif wacko.gif

Yeah but it works well in Starcraft because it helps you if you do MP or even SP against bots.

Playing through Two Worlds II again. This game is very fun and despite a few plot holes, is a pretty good game.

I'm going to start playing Mass Effect 1.

Steam says I have 5 hours in it but I did barely anything in it.

Has anyone started playing "The Last of Us"? I saw a video on YouTube, one of those "Let's Play" types, and it looks cool...

I haven´t. I´m pretty tired of all the zombie movies and games now. What are they trying to tell us? That we´ll soon have that kind of apocalypse and these movies and games are meant to prepare us? huh.gif

It's not really a zombie game.

They aren't really zombies and you more deal with humans.

AND THE STORY AND ANIMATIONS OH MY GOD IT'S BRILLIANT!
