*wanders in pretending never to have left, grabs a cup of tea... mmm tea...* Hiya! I hope everyone's well... Things for me have been pretty busy, I'm currently in the last six months or so of my PhD - I hope to submit my thesis in October or November. After that, my plan is to look for a job in computer programming (am planning to chat to the careers service soonish to work out what's out there and what would work for me). I hope this will be doable despite the economy being... the economy. It's a bit frightening to leave academia and enter the real world! Even though I can also barely describe just how much I'm looking forward to having a job where you can go home in the evening and not feel guilty for not working. I swear the flexibility of a PhD is both its greatest advantage and its biggest disadvantage sometimes. Also, you can thank the chibi maker for my new avatar. It was such a perfectly Adryn expression I had to do it.

Welcome back to Chorrol. EVERYONE COMES BACK EVENTUALLY. Disclaimer: The term "everyone" may not pertain to each individual. Spambots and banned users are exempt from this rule. This only applies to users that do actually return to the forums after absence, large numbers do not.

Yeah, leaving school is a frightening step, I think I would have stayed a perpetual student if I could have, lol. Congrats on the PhD, that is Awesome!

I was wondering the same thing. He hasn't been on lately. I hope he's alright.

Puns of that calibre are rare, Madam, and should be encouraged. Good work, TSG!
KingCoin, Meet Kazaera. A highly talented writer who has returned with her tale infused with a sense of humor and creativity that would put most of us too shame. In short, we've all met our match.
I'm certain General Grey Poupon is fine. RL has this annoying tendency of being the supporting fabric that allows us to enjoy our leisure time here.
Kiln, you and I have been here so long, we've seen this universe curving back in on itself, and can accurately predict the future, as it's the past to us.

Yes, that is the short version.

QUOTE(Black Hand @ Jun 18 2013, 09:51 AM) Wow. Kinda in shock, first patient had already gone into hospital in critical condition. Not uncommon at all in my line of work, but this guy was pretty healthy all around. The wife was so in grief I think I picked up on it. He and I only rode together a few times, but we sort of developed a bond quickly with similar philosophies in life.
I hope he turns out okay, but the realistic overview is grim. I generally don't get attatched to patients, so I'm kind of blindsided by this revelation.
The medical field must be the hardest in the world because of exactly this. Your head can tell you not to get attached to patients, but your heart doesn't always listen; and especially if you see them repeatedly. You can't help but feel involved when you are there at their most crucial moments between life and death. I am so sorry his prognosis isn't good, and hope by whatever miracle is needed that (that changes). Good luck to both them and you in this situation. oh i wish your patient good luck anyway..Now it's inevitable to attach to patients at least some time...that's hard when the outcome is not very positive.... Be strong Blackie!
