Going to violate my longstanding policy of (mostly) not getting involved- especially in things of which I have no understanding.

So- to just slide right past causes and move straight to effects- I am sorry Black Hand, but I cannot accept your resignation at this time. I am not "the Forum," nor do I represent anyone on it except my small, old doggie self. But in that capacity (and also because we share a birthday) I ask you to please reconsider.

Although I have been more absent than present for the last too long of a time, Chorrol is still a refuge for me- because of no- NOT "people like you"- but you yourself specifically. (Others too of course- so many I cannot begin to name them all). But you and I- we have been at this for such a long time, from before there even WAS a Waiting 4 Oblivion.

So- respectfully- I do not accept your resignation. I will not entertain the idea of losing your humor, your insight, your humanity.

Black Hand, treydog is right. As one of the newer moderators I, of course, had to study the mod rule book. It clearly states no one can resign from this community without the express written consent of a moderator. Honestly, I don’t think any of us are going to grant such permission to such a long-standing and valued member here. I mean, I won’t. I expect neither will Kiln, Burnt Sierra nor Wolfie. And do you honestly think that minque would approve such a request?

Black Hand, I hope you will reconsider.

It would be a shame to have to guard our words and throttle our individual expression for fear of someone taking offense where none is offered.

Our community’s unusual spirit comes from (among other things) most members first seeking to understand what has been said before they get their panties in a bunch. Of course some can’t be bothered and some don’t get humor, and everyone has the occasional bad day. I hate to think that one person’s misunderstanding will rob the rest of us of your unique voice.

Perhaps whoever made the mistake will privately offer you an apology. General Discussion is diminished by your absence.

Well I PM'd Black Hand and he said he wasn't leaving the forums, but intends to avoid participating in the General Discussion forum. He noted this in his post but it seems that everyone missed that.

I hope he reconsiders but that is his choice to make.

I saw it but I’m still strenuously objecting.

GD is where our different groups should be able to come together. It’s a place where potential new members look to gauge the health of our community. I would not have bothered with this site if the Coffee Shop-type threads had been the mess of hot-headed insult-trading that’s so common elsewhere. I found humor, thought-provoking opinions, and respectful disagreements, so I stayed.

If a long-time member who is part of Chorrol’s foundation is uncomfortable posting here, then something has gone wrong. Today’s incident may just be one misunderstanding, but I see it as a big step in the wrong direction.
