A number of years ago, I picked up a standard 8.5 x 11 spiral notebook from a closeout bin at an office supply store- mostly because it had turtles on the cover.
The texture of the paper was interesting, and I fell in love with the way it felt beneath the pen. As it turned out, the notebook was made from recycled banana leaves and even the spiral binding is reclaimed.
Then began a long search to find more of these marvelous notebooks- to no avail.
At last, I found the name of a representative of the production company in Costa Rica. After much emailing, he finally sent me several more notebooks, asking only that I pay upon receiving them! (Thank you again, Senor Valverde).
All of my fan-fics have been written (in whole or in part) in those notebooks. I have 3 or 4 filled ones stacked on the shelf behind me- and the "current" A & A notebook beside my keyboard.
And those books you showed us are amazing, BH!

QUOTE(Black Hand @ Jun 23 2013, 04:14 PM) I also frequent that place. If I might make a suggestion. The refillable B&N Bombay leather wrap.Twenty bux (when you can shell it out.) and five bucks for the refills. Now, I know you might be tempted to go with Fiorentino version and refills. DON'T! The Kraft brand doesn't smear or bleed and will accept virtually any ink applied to it, whereas the Fiorentina will not, and does tend to bleed and smear, and is at least twice as expensive. Plus, not one, but TWO~! nifty pen holders in the front wrap there....hmmm. I'll post some pics of my old one in here to show what I mean. EDITED TO ADD: mALX, looks like we have winner here for you than. They make some other covers as well. Or at least did once upon a time. I love the pen holders inside this one, what a great idea! Really don't like the journal cover on that one at all, though. I am definitely drawn to some of those on the page you got your journal from (although the one you selected = having a head coming out of it through vines would freak me out in the night, I don't think I'd want to reach out and grab onto it if I woke up with a thought I wanted to jot down, lol). Does anyone else wake up from a powerful or inspiring dream and want to jot it down? I used to dream of poetry, and wake up and try to write it down before I forgot the dream. (Reaching out and touching a 3D head crawling out of the journal may yank the poetry out of my head, lol).

The Paper in the Head one is also very Calligraphy friendly. I write on it only with the cartridge Manuscript pens after a mishap with the dip pens. That being said, the paper showed remarkable resiliency to the huge glob that fell on it, despite being thinner than the second journal's paper. The story with the Head one, is that I got it for a friend at work for her birthday. Her reaction was much the same as yours, and said she was grateful but didn't want it. So I swapped it out for an iTunes gift card. Stayed on my bookcase for two months until I finally decided to put it as a display piece on the dresser. Most just think it's a sculpture. Hiding in plain sight. This second journal, has been out with me in the field and has taken a great deal of abuse, and is still in one piece. I do love it, and the only reason as to 'why' I switched for a smaller version, is that a smaller version can be carried around outside a backpack. Though, with that being said. After writing in it again..I do kind of miss that journal...and refills being only five dollars...could field dip penmanship actually work?

Not certain if you were thinking the second post was the same journal as the first. The one with the pen holders is completely different from the one with the scary face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...p14MKDDU#t=143sDang Youtube. Fast Forward to 2:26 seconds for batman sayin' "Scary Face".... This post has been edited by Black Hand: Jun 23 2013, 10:33 PM

Glad to know I wasn't the only one creeped out by it, lol. On the cover of the one with the pen holder inside - I was talking about that plain loose looking cover with the big rawhide tie. Just didn't like the look of it that much, especially the big rawhide tie thing. (but did like the fact that it held two pens). I liked the look of many of those where you got the "head" one, and quite a few on the other page of journals too. I do like a unique cover on a journal, but never do the refill thing anyway (because then I'd have to file the pages I removed. I like keeping them intact and buying another journal better, then each year has its own record).

I generally don't while writing; I find that it throws me off from setting the tone of the scene properly because my emotions are being influenced by music instead of my writing. I'm not sure how much sense that made... say, if I'm listening to epic dramatic music that affects my writing via e.g. having drama seeping in where I don't want it to, or *not* having drama where I want it because the music makes me think a scene comes off as more dramatic than it actually does. I do listen to music when plotting and reading, and I also tend to go for epic music compilations a lot. *g*
