What is your opinion on Skyrim, ImpSnob?

I like it but it's my least favourite of the 3 newer TES games even though I think I have the most time in Skyrim but that's because it has the best mods.

I've decided to take the family out on a trip to the moon, therefore, which launch vehicle should I use to travel there in?...

A Galaxy Dropship.

Or NASA's Saturn V rocket which sent the Apollo landers...

I wish to visit our nearest star, Proxima Centauri, just for the hell of it...If I travelled at the speed of light - all 186,282 miles per second of it - how long would it take me to get there and back?...

Approximately 16 minutes - eight to get there and eight to get back again.

Sorry Impsnob for taking that question wink.gif

Actually it's a trick question. At the speed of light, you would experience no time lapse at all, but everyone back at home would think it took 9 years(ish). Since you have to slow down, stop and turn round, that's the only time you'd experience time, and the question didn't give any clues about that part.

So if 8 hours for reversing is reasonable, mALX could be right (subjectively).

Care to provide a source? I'd like to read about this.

You guys have never met my wife. She could get there and back in two hours as long as there was no shopping available. If you factor in the time it takes for her to shop then it'll take approximately 9 hours.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation (with pictures and nasty maths)

Of course, the speed of light can't be reached, so time stopping at that speed is a limit value.

A bazillion points to everyone!!...

Ex-Minion, yes the sun is indeedie our nearest star...Named Sol by scientists as it happens...Oddly enough, it's Latin for sun...But anyways...Yes, well done that man and his maths...

Impy!!...Yes, the sun is a long long way away...93 million miles, give or take a few...And well done for knowing that the Alpha Centauri star system to ours...Made up of three stars...Named, boringly enough, A, B and C...C is also called Proxima Centauri which is the nearest star to ours...

Everyone else, but most espescially Ghastley...Nice one!!...

Yes, Ghastley's right about all the nasty maths and time dilation effects etc and yes, I meant subjective time from Earth of my travelling 4.24 light-years there and back (as a straight round trip) would be about 9 hours...

Though I do take issue with the scientists who insist on this quantum effect thing...A light particle still has to travel the distance the 4.24 light-years actually is, and therefore, you, as an observer on a craft travelling at said speed would be aware of time passing...Stands to reason...But they're the clever ones with letters and stuff around their name and I milk cows, so - as a wise man once observed - I know my place... biggrin.gif tongue.gif ...

Aaamywho...

Hi! I'm Sam Beckett, lead character in TVs old show, Quantum Leap...Where each week, by way of Super Science™ and Plot Contrivance™, my soul essence would possess the body of some unsuspecting person in any year that my character had been alive and "Help them" in some way...Be it protecting Jackie Onassis or helping Buddy Holly with the lyrics to Peggy Sue...

Help! Something has gone wrong with the machine and I seem to have been transported to England in the 1500s...I seem to be inside a ginger fat dude with a penchant for offing his wives...

Who am I?...
