Another joy is that I can still see and hear him- doing what he loved. A local TV station did a series that started out being about Cades Cove, but which grew into much more. Dad was asked to do some of the earliest episodes and then was invited back several times. The shows still air and better yet, are available on VHS and DVD. So I get a chance to see him being himself- teaching, talking, his eyes gleaming with pleasure as he explains how the mountains and the coves were formed.

Oh treydoggie! Cades Cove! I was there you know, back then in 2006 when I was in TN! I'd really like to see that series...What is it called!

And also I would have liked to meet with your father, he must have been such a wise man..and the best of all ..his son inherited that!

It is called the Heartland Series, hosted by Bill Landry. I did a bit of googling and did not find any clips on line.

Here is a quick sketch about Dad from the book Bill wrote about doing the series:

"[He] was an expert in the broad field of geology. He always smoked a pipe. No matter what we were talking about or where we were, when it was time to shoot, he'd just put that pipe in his pocket. Oftentimes, we'd smell smoke and cloth burning, and we'd see where his pipe had burned a hole in his pants or singed his shirt below his belt or worse. He didn't care. What a cool dude [he] was. We loved him.

"Whatever he said, you could take to the bank. I never remember him doing a second take unless, of course, I screwed up. He was great on cameral. Not just good, I mean great- Richard Attenborough great!"

He was my dad, so of course I think highly of him. But to see someone else write those words...

That's Bill Landry, talking about the Heartland Series - that's not Trey's dad, lol. (his dad would have been someone they featured in an episode)

Just as Ms mALX says. Bill hosted the program for 25 years. Some of my favorites were the April Fool's shows- they also had some with audio of Wiley Oakley (whose grand-daughter I dated way back about 35 years ago). Wiley was a master story-teller and from one of the original Gatlinburg families.

Oh, I'm terribly sorry Ser Trey, I'm afraid I'm a bit crazy from the heat here (really) and misread all that. blink.gif

I will however refine a search for it when I'm more mentally apt, this friendly forum assassin knows of other methods. winkgrin.gif

They have bumped official 4th of July celebrations to July 13th in cities all across Tennessee due to the storms slated to come through here today and tomorrow. I've been listening to the storm approaching my area by the distant thunder.

The storm can't be moving very fast, or maybe this sedate storm is being pushed in by faster moving storms behind it. Either way, the thunder is getting too close for comfort, so I'll probably be unplugging my PC soon to keep from having the same thing happen this week that did last week (when the surge protector smoked and burned).

I'll be on and off with these storms, may get behind on reading and answering PM's - sorry in advance, and you all know I'll catch up asap when they pass and I get my PC back up.

Keep you and your kin safe, mALX!!

On an unrelated note...wow. second day and I'm getting compliments on how fast I am and how I keep busy. I mentioned I know how to put up schematics and the girl (we actually share a name) looked shocked.

Here's a little fact.

The US didn't get their independence on July 4th they got it onJuly 2nd.

Washington(I think) said in a letter that July 2nd will be a day that'll be never forgotten as a monumental day in American history.

Stay safe mALX, no need to apologize for something like that.

Good job Elisabeth, sounds like you've found a much better work environment.

We declared independence that day. The King got the letter the following October.

250 years later, we are the most Orwellian nation on Earth.

Well, I don't know about New World Orders or Orwellian Societies, but Mother Nature has effectively put the kabosh on our 4th of July festivities today. 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms...all...day...long...
No beach...no fireworks...nothing to do but sit around and drink beer all day tongue.gif

Happy Independence Day everyone! cool.gif
