There are some great notebooks with nice paper at Target. I have to unload them every morning and never get to spend any time with them, lol

I got my first pcoket journal that way actually, as the area I was assigned to was stationary. It's the 'Markings' by C.M. Gibson, which has expanded to include several sizes. It was okay for a starter, but they don't have the endurance which I seek. Though, that one took on several of the darkest and most life-changing moments in my life, so it stays in the archive!

belated response to mALX: there were sadly a few deaths sad.gif but the flooding was also *really widespread* because several major rivers (like, both the Danube *and* the Elbe as well as numerous tributaries) went way, way over their banks - like, twenty feet over their usual level. It was a massive natural disaster. Thankfully the flooding is over and recovery is ongoing, from what I hear. Also thankfully (selfishly) my family wasn't affected!

In happier news!

I've been working on my thesis, and have been kind of... amused? by how there seems to be way more in common between fiction writing skills and, er, extremely extremely technical nonfiction writing than I'd expected. And I don't mean things like being able to put together a sentence, I mean things like plotting! Trying to sort out what concepts I need to introduce when is pretty much the same thing as trying to sort out what events need to happen when for my plot to work out. The thesis also needs to have a coherent "narrative", ideally even things like conflict - look, there's a problem! - and climax - here's how I solve the problem!, and a hook to get people interested... etc. I really noticed this when I was talking about ways to foreshadow (in fiction) with mALX and then went back to working on my thesis and realised that yeah, I kind of have to do the same thing - making sure to give motivation for things or mentioning concepts early in order not to blindside the reader, or introducing the right examples early on so I can use them to demonstrate the things I need later. There are of course differences (plot twists not so good! I have had to stomp *hard* on my tendency to want to surprise the reader), but it's still more than I was expecting. Has anyone else noticed anything like this this?

This is the long-winded way of saying that my only real news is: still being eaten by thesis... although I am going hiking in the Dolomites in a week with my family, which should be fun!

Those mountains are beautiful! Really sorry to hear about the loss of lives in that flooding. 20 feet is a really frightening thought!

I like that: 1.) She actually got it. and B.) Those lyrics fit perfectly.

I am sorry too hear of your dissappointing experience. But at least you got outside, everythings okay now (hopefully) and even a bad experiemce in good times is still better than what most people have. :-)

Agreed. I still gripe over that last GNR concert that came through here - where they spent three hours backstage after only 30 minutes of playing (during which Axel was in a fog and couldn't read his stage monitor with the lyrics posted), then sent their drummer out for a 35 minute (very sucky) drum solo - but as mad as it made me, the two warm up bands were good and it was still better than sitting home and doing nothing.

Plus, despite I think he is one of the best guitar players around, I got to tell Slash to go F himself, and when the drummer cursed us the whole auditorium cursed him back.

That was a bit fun and frustration relieving.

Next time someone drapes their blanket over your feet, you could wipe the bottom of your dog poo shoe on their blanket. Or spill your cherry koolaid on it. Or take your shoes off and stick your feet near their heads. Or stuff your husband with chili and let his gas expell the neighbors that want to hug your feet. Or ... etc.

hahahahahahaha mALX!!

Black stone Cherry was amazing, but they quit before their set was over because no one, and I mean NO ONE, was reacting besides us and a few others. They tried so hard to get the crowd going. And the sound guy effed them over because the audio kept cutting in and out in one song, then the bass would randomly go up lol

You know, and this is a true story - Johnny Cash came to Germany when I was living over there - the crowd was so dead silent and still that he thought he'd bombed and was feeling down over it. Johnny Cash's crowds usually hoot or holler - something.

When he stopped playing he kind of tossed it out there like he didn't think anyone would respond - offered anyone to come up and get an autograph. He was stampeded, they loved him. They told him and showed him, even if they didn't react when he was singing. Sometimes crowds are just quiet, mellow. It has to be really hard on the performers when they are though, no feedback for them to stay charged up with.
