QUOTE(mALX @ Aug 27 2013, 06:48 PM) We just learned on the news that there was a bomb scare at the student center in the university my son goes to. I called him right away, terrified.
He answered laughing; said "I knew you would call worried."
Everything had been cleared before the news broadcast it, thank goodness. WHEW!
A bit ticked we found out hours later, and then from the news station and not the school. Still, no one was hurt, thank goodness.
QUOTE(Elisabeth Hollow @ Aug 27 2013, 06:51 PM) Oh god! That's terrifying!!
Unfortunately this sort of thing happens all the time. I'm glad there was no actual explosive device there.

It was terrifying just to know someone like that made it onto campus. @ Kiln - oh yeah, def glad it was a fake bomb. Other than worry about that crap happening near my son, yeah. The guy was wearing hospital scrubs and surgical mask, and there is a hospital right around the corner. He probably stole the stuff from the hospital - could be in a drug rehab there or something. He can't be very bright, the picture of him is very close up and clear; and even with the surgical mask it is easy to see his face/eyes/hair/etc. Anyone that knows him won't be able to miss it is him by the picture. He left the "bomb" when he ran out, and everyone was worried about getting the students out of there and to safety instead of chasing him. Well, at the time we heard they didn't know if it was a bomb or not, they had the bomb squad come out and put it in the truck where they explode them. (turns out it was a fake). Then they dig through everything in the truck for fingerprints. He'll be caught quickly. This post has been edited by mALX: Aug 27 2013, 10:03 PM

QUOTE(minque @ Aug 27 2013, 06:21 PM) So glad to hear that mALXie!
Me too, I'd rather have him here where I can see and hear he's safe. He told all his friends to listen for his phone to ring, and it be his mother worried about him. No sooner said it than it started vibrating and it was me, they all started laughing in the background. So then he comes home and tells me that he was going to say, "I can't hear you, this man in hospital scrubs is shouting at us..." (Click); plus about 30 other things he could have done to freak me out worse. "I was late because I had to give some guy in hospital scrubs and a mask a ride, he was wanting to be dropped off a block from here..." The monkey!

QUOTE(Grits @ Aug 27 2013, 06:26 PM) How frightening. I'm glad it turned out to be a fake. Tell your son he should text his mother the next time he sees a news van in his vicinity!! Wait, that might not be a good idea. He might just say, "Hey Ma, I'm going to be on the news!" It was an awful feeling. And no, I don't want him texting me when he should be taking cover, but know exactly what you are saying, lol. These kind of things make you want to don dark glasses and follow him around. "WATCH OUT! I don't like the look of that guy...did you just cross the street without a crosswalk? Who is that?" Poor unlucky kid being born last, lol.

"Hey, some guy in scrubs gave me $20 to put a duffel bag in a garbage can. He just told me not to open it." Exactly.
