QUOTE(Elisabeth Hollow @ Aug 30 2013, 04:29 PM) Update on my cousin: She's being kept sedated now. she did wake up, thankfully. she has broke ribs, punctured lung, a fractured eye socket, and an artery in her face is pinched so there's not a lot of blood flowing to that side, but the other side is fine. We're waiting on word for the surgery.
QUOTE(Elisabeth Hollow @ Aug 30 2013, 09:01 PM) I'm heading to see her tomorrow. My son was just picked up by my brother in law to spend the weekend with his nana and them so I won't have to worry about a three year old in a hospital.
Also have not heard about surgery on her arm, but her gallbladder was removed and there was some concern about her spleen, but it looks like the traumed to her internal organs, besides getting the gallbladder removed, wasn't as bad as everyone feared. she's responding now, but they're keeping the neck brace on because her jaw is broken and she has no control over it.
Also, apparently "half of her face is gone" also means "She might not be able to move half her face due to nerve damage" in my family. She pretty much landed and skidded on her right side, but my stepmom says her face IS intact, it just looks like she got into a boxing match and lost.
They're optimistic about her leg, but not her arm. She has a really long road to recovery ahead of her. Thanks everyone for the PMs of assurance, understanding, and the hugs and love and puppy pictures. Thanks for cheering me up and making sure I'm alright. It really touches me that there is so much concern over this.
This is such a relief to hear, Liz. She is alive, that is the most important thing. The other things will fall into place as needed. You all are still in our thoughts and prayers; have endured a tremendous shock over all this. I am so glad she is going to make it through, for the sake of her child and you all who love her. <3

Oh my god. That...is actually what probably saved her life. I'm an EMT and I have to stop at Traffic Collisions by law if we're first on scene and given that we operate in Los Angeles....it's a multiple thing, daily. But, back on subject, all of that kinetic energy into the accident would have been much worse if she'd landed closer. Same concept as a bow and arrow, the further the landing, the less severe the impact due to reduced amount of energy. And without revealing too much, based solely on my own experience and the photo of the crash scene that I saw, the evidence points to them traveling extremely fast. Apologies if anything has come across as insensitive, as that is not my intention. Mrs. Hollow, you of course have my continued sympathy and whatever limited support I can offer.

Erm...same here in the Everything Thread. It has only just occurred to me that my post about concussions and psychological/physical trauma causing repressed memories might have come across as a bit apathetic. That was not my intention at all.

That was not my intention at all. Kiln. You're the voice of reason and objectivity. If this were TES-Verse, you'd be a Priest of Julianos. I certainly took no offense, and while I don't speak for her, I doubt Mrs. Hollow did either. Sometimes breaking the bad news is the worst part of my job, and I've...become used to it. Worst event ever was a four-year old girl who didn't make it. She was gone before we even came across it, and had to tell a mother and father as such, and given that they only spoke Spanish and I'm more or less proficient in it and my partner didn't speak a lick....yeah.

I got to see her today, and...she was swollen. She wasn't nearly as bad as I was picturing, but she had road burn on her face, legs, and her right arm is in a cast, she's in a neck brace, and her right ankle is shattered. I couldn't even talk to her because any sort of activity woke her up and she'd start to panic and be sedated again.
My mind is still tingling and numb with shock. I just...ache. Seeing her like that was horrible. The last time I saw her was my sister's wedding, and she wasn't like that at all. And top top it off, she was at the hospital my dad was in when he passed away, which the anniversary for that in on Tuesday. I just... I don't know.
