There's only one Captain Jack for me, and ladies, your viewing figures just went up.

QUOTE(Grits @ Sep 9 2013, 06:42 AM) *

I’m finally watching Doctor Who (the ones starting in 2005). Loved the first season. Captain Jack was instantly awesome. I guess that means I should also finally watch Torchwood. Cancel the last of the sleep. smile.gif

I loved Captain Jack and Torchwood. It was a different kind of science fiction show. There wasn't a fist-fight every show. The good guys do not always win. It has a very different feel to shows like Star Trek, Farscape, the Galacticas, etc... Since you are watching Doc Who (yaay! - Lots of places have a North!) you have an idea of what to expect. Remember the Dalek episode from the first Season of the new Dr. Who? That's what every Torchwood episode is like. But where Dr. Who is a pre-Watershed show made with children in mind, Torchwood was a post-Watershed show. So its a lot darker and is definitely not for kids.

I do recommend you just skip the final two seasons of Torchwood though - Children of Earth and Miracle Day. They left a bad taste in many fan's mouths, including mine. McB hates Captain Jack now because of Children of Earth. Where I just blame it on the writers, not the character/John Barrowman.

I agree with all of the above...

Except...

I do not hate Barrowman... biggrin.gif ...He's proper brilliant...

He's also Scottish, and has a proper Scottish accent and everything...Apparently... biggrin.gif ...

I absolutely blame the writers for the mess that was Children of Earth...And, having read Russell T. Davies' book - The Writer's Tale...I kinda felt a bit sorry for him, he seemed to get himself a bit bullied into the choices he made...

But, personally speaking, as much as I loved Captain Jack (he's a character in the show...Not Barrowman... biggrin.gif ...) up to that point...Both in Docky Who and the Torchwood series...The choice he made at the end of CoE was completely and absolutely out of character from what he'd done in earlier episodes...

And that made what the Doctor did, some time later...Absolutely wrong on so many levels...

There are too many uses of the word Absolutely in the above...I apologies absolutely...

Torchwood was excellent!!...

Doctor Who is...Wait for it...Fantastic!...

biggrin.gif ...

I love the "Are you my mummy?" episodes...

I just read what Subrosa put again...I seem to have gone off on one about Torchwood...again... laugh.gif ...Bloody fanboys... biggrin.gif ...Apologies SR!!...

The movie was entertaining, as long as you're not a zombie purist.

Sigh.

Warm Bodies was one of the best retellings of Romeo and Juliet to date. Also it was hilarious. And zombies made it even better.

Warm Bodies was surprisingly fun as long as you take it for what it is. The movie is a comedy at heart that doesn't take itself too seriously. It was alright overall and actually ended up being enjoyable.

I still think the best way to dispose of zombies is to shoot for the head however and not to make them love so that they can be human again.

IT Crowd, every episode is on 4oD's youtube.

I mean everything about the IT Crowd and anything that has to do with it is brilliant....expect the American remake but let's pretend that never existed.

I had such a crush on Martha Plimpton when that came out...I still do biggrin.gif ...She was excellent when she turned up in Supernatural...

Still Magnum...(look, it's on 5 nights a week and it ran 23 or so episodes a season for 8 years...You do the maths... indifferent.gif )...And Supernatural...Is there anything else?...Um...No, not really...Oh, Top of The Pops 1978...Possibly something else, but I forget...
