I'm loving it.

Eh . . . not a fan.

I gave it a try but couldn't get into it.

Not me. I confess Buffy's popped back into Baldur's Gate II a couple times the past few years. And several years ago, under the careful coaching of Leydenne, I gave Dragon Age (Origins) a solid try for over a month (didn't like it).

Other than that, it's been all about Oblivion and only about Oblivion here.

The one by Bullfrog? I have DK- Gold somewhere around here, and it is still on the gaming PC.

I loved the voice-overs... that lovely baritone sneer about "cute little bunnies" and etc.

I found it a fun diversion. It is NOT a "role-playing game"- but more of a "world-builder". It can be a bit repetitive, but that is true of most of these sorts of games.

And there are some dungeons/scenarios that are set up to be VERY difficult- I recall one where the only way I completed it was to automate EVERYTHING... which is kinda the opposite of "playing." (But then I am impatient... there was probably a way to actually LEARN how to beat that one- if I had taken the time).

Check the Wiki entry and maybe look at some Youtube examples of gameplay to decide if it is your cuppa hackle lo...

If you can get it for cheap- it is fun, humorous, sometimes frenzied (as you try to protect your dungeon).

Of course- slapping chickens is always fun...

I wish I had saved the magazines with the reviews about that game. Would have been fun to look it over again from when it was new. Well, thanks for your input, mr treyie smile.gif

I always find it odd when people dislike Dragon Age Origins because it was one of my all time favorites. I love how the ending takes into account so many things that you did over the course of the game. Some things that seemed like small and unimportant side quests have a larger effect on the ending than I would have imagined.

Out of curiosity, what did you dislike about it specifically?

Dragon Age: Origins never really clicked for me either. I think it was because it was so like Bioware's previous games: the Neverwinter Nights and Kotor games. I never had to look at manual, because the way everything worked was exactly the same, just with different graphics. It made me wonder why I should bother playing it, when I could just play NWN instead?

I have also been spoiled by the open worlds of Elder Scrolls games. As soon as I get into a Bioware game, I immediately want to head out into the trees and see what is over there? But of course you cannot do that, as the game forces you down narrow, predetermined paths. Then there is the issue of clutter. In Bioware games it is all static objects built into the background. In ES games it is things you can move around an interact with. I remember trying to decorate my cabin in Mass Effect one, and being so bummed out that I could not move, add, or remove a single thing.

Here's some of the probs I had with DA O:

- Could never get happy with working the camera. Despite trying for many hours, it remained very frustrating and counter-intuitive to me.

- Disliked the extreme class limitations. I want to pair a bow with some basic magical skills to back it up, not with a blade. I wanted my character to be able to function as the party's scout - but detecting foes ahead, finding traps and the other necessary things that a scout needs were too difficult to get into one character. I was pretty unhappy about that because I did not have the same type of problem when playing some of the game's ancestors (BG I, BG II).

- I disliked the surprise cut scenes. I don't want to make on the spot decisions that they forced me into. So I would patiently wait for the cut scene to end, exit the game, go consult the guide and ponder my choices. Then I would have to reload from the last save from before getting 'jumped' by the cut scene and replay things (usually quite a bit) back to just before the cut scene and save. Then play through the cut scene and make my dialogue option choices. Very tedious.

As you can see, my complaints were quirky and are not shared by very many. I know many folks speak highly of the game.

Interesting.

Subrosa: I actually loved Kotor and didn't mind the similarity. I did notice that everything was very similar though, it just didn't bug me.

Acadian: This perfectly illustrates the differences in preference that people can have. I actually liked the surprise cutscenes and felt that they kept things more real because sometimes you are going to be forced to think on the fly. I also liked the class limitations, it takes me back to the days when you couldn't just create a character and become a master of everything with the same character. The camera took some getting used to though I will admit and the game has it's flaws. Best part for me was that the Origins effected who you were for the reat of the game. For instance a dwarf noble will most likely hate his traitorous brother while other races might be indifferent or even skeptical about whether or not he is such a bad guy.

Is it bad that I managed to play 20 hours of Saints Row IV and not only do the main quest but ALL of the side missions in just one week?

I think that's bad. Bad in a good way.

Currently playing Aralon on the Galaxy.
Really impressed with it actually. Couple of little niggles but overall it's not at all bad.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 on my 360. They're stopping me getting round to finishing my other nine games for the 360. And a couple of games I keep meaning to replay.

On my 3DS I'm bouncing back and forth between Fire Emblem Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner Soul Hackers. And occasionally Etrian Odyssey 4.

And Baldur's Gate on my laptop, every now and then.

Same here! laugh.gif I´ve been meaning to do a replay of Deus Ex, I even fired up the tutorial again in an attempt to go through this masterpiece once more. But, as it happened, FO3 and Oblivion pulled me back dry.gif
