QUOTE(Black Hand @ Oct 2 2013, 04:46 PM) mALX' condition sounds like TIA's; or trans-ischemic attacks. Commonly referred to as mini-strokes.
An infarction can occur in any part of the body. In the brain, it's called a stroke, in the heart, a heart attack (also called MI or myocardial infarction among the medical community), anywhere else, simply an infarction.
TIA's more often than not, are symptoms of an impending stroke, usually little bits of the embolus or clot being released prior to the main one dislodging. This is not good in any sense, and the....ultimate price,...can be a mercy in comparison to the other side effects.
Hence the extremely high list of precautions. More then likely, she will be on blood thinners and a host of other meds to keep the blood pressure from going too low, or too high.
She will need to avoid stressful situations and exertion, with effort, luck and prayers she can recover once the clot has been dealt with.
You are in my prayers, mALX.
See- this is what happens with all the turning green and ripping off of one's shirt. In all seriousness- take care of yourself, follow the doc's orders, rest and get better.

The positive thing to take from this is that the warnings can allow the major stroke to be averted. My family tend to get the no-warning big ones, like my father's early this year.

It was the big one. He lasted a week after it, but was never really conscious.

Starge, I am so very sorry to hear about your friend. My dear friend Ghastley; if I missed saying it at the time, my sincerest condolences on the loss of your Father.
For everyone who sent well wishes to me, I thank you so much for your friendship and caring. DE, you are a gem of a friend, it will devastate me when you move to Brazil!
What Blackie said is right, there is a 1/3 chance I could have a massive stroke within the next 30 days; these TIA (mini-strokes) are a forewarning that one is coming. There is much changes needed to my vascular system and very little time to secure the changes. I have to be very careful what I eat/do/breathe (husband has to smoke outside now), etc. I could use anyone's prayers that really cares, they would be greatly appreciated.

Glad to see you back Malx. Just take it easy and follow the precautions the doctor has given you or else I'll have Black Hand hunt you down and recite vogon poetry to you.
