Back when I was gaming with Crystal Beth, I discovred the joy of the double atronach approach, after Beth recruited Brelyna (who also summoned these). I don't remember having much of a prob with 'friendly fire'.

IIRC all the atronachs are immune to their own major attack, so two flame atronachs, for example, wouldn't care about fireballs from the other. Mixed types might be an issue. And it's much more likely that a melee follower will get up close to an enemy and get hit. A mage follower is going to be out of the line of fire most of the time.

Meanwhile, I started a new test character - Pala - to run through my Bear Rider quests without any DLC's in place. She joined the College of Winterhold so that she could get the Gauldur Amulet, but she's avoiding all the other "guilds" - except the Bear Riders, of course.

I'll probably have to start another test character soon, as I don't think I have saves at all the place I need one. Maybe a Khajiit, as they need different helmet meshes, and I need to make sure I specified the headbands and circlets correctly.

March of the Dead was tough for Mikke, and she was plowing through most fights by then. She was traveling with Torvar who took a knee as soon as the fun started. Good luck to Khan and Bran! I love Severin Manor.

I’d love to see Aravi with a greatsword! Mixing magic with two-handed is one of my favorite ways to play.

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Oct 20 2013, 04:32 PM) *
Is Abbie's robe armored? In this latest shot it looks like it has mail links over the torso. Her new cloak/hat looks very warm.

Yes, that’s kind of a long mail vest with a tunic under it. I downloaded it for Lil to try, but Abiene grabbed it instead. It’s perfect for her. Abiene is surprisingly fun to play with followers. Surprising because she has no offense at all other than summoning. A sabre cat can pretty much bite her in half, so she needed something that at least looks a little protective. The sabre cats really go after her, too. Most things are distracted by the guys. Of course Abiene had an elegant solution to that problem. Now she can summon her own sabre cat thanks to your Nature Summoning mod! I love those fur cloaks. Jerric has a grey one now. Soon Darnand should have one, too.

Exactly this. Jerric gets right in the way of the fire-throwers. Of course Jerric as a player character has some spell absorption, so getting hit with friendly fire is a bonus for him. NPC Jerric does not have that advantage. (I gave him the Atronach perk, but it backfired on me since some other mods use spell effects to do non-magical things.) Anyway I often get to watch NPC Jerric chase down an atronach while uttering threats. I imagine NPC Darnand palming his face while this occurs. Abiene is always ready with a Calm spell in case things get out of hand, but so far the guys have not let grudges extend past killing each other’s summonings.

ghastley, is Pala a Nord?

Abiene visited the College of Winterhold and learned a new spell to open Adept locks. She can’t cast it yet and also couldn’t afford the Expert version, so a return trip will eventually be on the schedule.

Abiene really takes her time looking around and talking to people, so it’s been fun to see what her followers (Jerric and Darnand) do to pass the time waiting for her. Darnand decided to catch up on some reading while Abiene was listening to Mirabelle.

After they finished up at the College Abiene wanted to find the doom stone that would let her reliably open more difficult locks. She has come across one or two chests that she couldn’t open. This bothers her a lot. If she’s going to risk life and limb (not to mention getting cold and really dirty) going into some awful tomb or cave, she is for darn sure going to see everything that’s in there. First character of mine who has taken the blessing of the Tower Stone.

They made it to Dawnstar as the sun set and delivered their note. Of course Abiene had to look through the shops. Somewhat disappointing, but she agreed to help another Skyrim citizen. Also while they were there Jerric appeared to consider a career change. Darnand made potions the whole time. He still does not have a fur cloak, so I imagine they were Resist Frost potions. tongue.gif

@Grits: Yes, Pala's a Nord, named for her ancestor in my Oblivion version. She's currently collecting potential followers, so I can test the recruiting quest I'm making. Housecarls are the simple cases, so she's bought Breezehome (Lydia) and Honeyside (Iona), and found Mjoll in Riften while she was doing the latter. Trying to raise the cash for Proudspire Manor in Solitude, but can't sell things fast enough because of the merchant gold limits. She's done the Jarl's quest, but not yet done all the city-folk's favours.

She'll be looking for other followers, so I can check it all out with Light Armor users (Jenassa? as an archer, she'd be a good test), and at least one Mage (Brelyna Maryon?). Usually accompanied by Mjoll, as she's essential, and I don't have to worry about needing a replacement follower. I should probably post a picture of the two of them, now I've made Mjoll a suit of Plate.

If I can get Fleur to load up with the Bear Riders mod replacing her own custom equipment one, I'll revisit her to test recruiting Rayya, and Aranea Ienith from Azura's Shrine, both of whom are eligible in her game. It may mean remaking her outfit at the Riders Forge, but she has spare ingots etc. to do so.

Khan is back at Heli-who-ha Hall, having put March of the Dead on hold for now. I tend to ignore the in-game calendar and use the real-world one, so we're gathering our quite prodigious wheat harvest, grinding that into flour, and then storing away the resulting bread for winter. I've decided he (and his family, including the Dovahteam*) won't eat as much meat during winter, as it would become more scarce. I'll also try to not do as much expansion-building in one day, taking breaks to warm up, eat, sleep, etc. Sooooooooo....cabbage soup, anyone? biggrin.gif

*Khan, Bran, and whoever the follower is at the moment.

I've always wanted to find a good party in Elder Scrolls, and now I got one. smile.gif

No, not that kind of party! Lord Haaf-Mersey has recently started travelling with Rayya and Serana. It's the 'dream team' (the party) I've always wanted. The ladies do a lot of the work (trolls, wolves, that sort of thing), and if there happens to be multiple enemies, LHM can now engage one of these (or more than one) on his own terms.

LHM doesn't use a bow or any sort of Destruction magic, he's only limited to close melee attacks. Sword 'n' board! Rayya (whom I call "Miss Overkill") on the other hand carries a magical bow, and Serana of course knows lots of magic. Either of these ladies can also switch to hand-weapons if the situation calls for it.

This may seem like overkill, but I am ensuring that LHM will live to a ripe old age. santaclaus.gif

You have almost gotten to a Baldur's Gate sized adventuring party! Start playing on PC, and you can actually do that. Take a look over at Grits' latest posts in the Oblivion topic. She has an entire army of characters tromping around Cyrodiil!

Yes, please! Or if you’ve already posted one I just haven’t found it yet. I am very behind these days. wacko.gif

Rohirrim, I love that calendar notion. I miss pumpkins in Skyrim. They’re all over the place right now in my Oblivion games.

Renee, CONGRATULATIONS!! I can’t wait to hear what you do with your TES games. happy.gif Your imagination has been inspiring for a long time, and now you can bring your ideas to life. Yay!

SubRosa, that same army is walking back and forth between Lakeview and Whiterun right now. NPC Abiene and NPC Lildereth have finally joined the gang (woo hoo!! biggrin.gif), and everyone has to go gather up everyone else. It’s quite a crowd trying to pass all of the deer on that road. Now some of them need to stay home!

Lord Haaf-Mersey and his women (Serana and Rayya) are on their way to Winterhold to finally get a book called The Wild Elves to Urab-gro-Shub.

I suppose I could have written a PhonAntiPhon and just said "somewhere south of Winterhold".

I've been running around with Lin Jiaolong the Bosmer courier. It's nice to play a character without many attachments. I loaded up his game today after a long break, at Valtheim Towers, and we just looked around and went: "East? Yeah, east." And now Adonanto wants us to dash over to Solitude to deliver his book...the life of a courier, (sigh).

Lord Haaf-Mersey and Rayya the Over-killer are on their way to Darkfall Cave, which is the next step to Dawnguard's questline. Unfortunately, Serana had to go on her own for this portion of the quest, which I find odd. I know that we're only allowed to have one follower at a time, but for awhile LHM was able to have both Serana and Rayya with him.

Since this area (where Darkfall Cave is) has not been explored by LHM, there are tons of new places to discover; mostly draugr barrows. So once again, I and LHM are getting distracted over and over as we explore and plunder all these new places. mellow.gif I'll "beat" Dawnguard one of these days, but probably not for another couple of months!

I've parked Ra'vish, now that he's become Arch-mage and developed a reasonable tank-follower/summon play-style. He'll get revived when I make progress on the mod, and he can recruit for the Riders.

I started a Bosmer Archer, Silwen, to get a feel for that sneak/poison/ranged play-style. She's been going around with Lydia, but the woman is a complete Kamikaze who's always getting a fatal arrow in her back (requiring a reload) because she runs into the line of fire every time. I'm likely to replace her with an atronach as soon as she has the levels and magicka to sustain it. Skyrim doesn't have the command/frenzy spells to use your enemies as involuntary allies, only a raise zombie to use them once they're dead. Unfortunately, the atronachs require higher levels to get the spells in the first place, and the magicka costs are too high for the lower-level characters, especially if they're not mages, and are putting their points into health and stamina.

Sneak bow attacks have lower multipliers than Oblivion, but her Archery skills add to her damage fairly quickly, so a one-shot take-out of the weaker members of a group is still as likely. I haven't yet figured out if the others are more or less likely to guess where the arrow came from in Skyrim versus Oblivion. I don't like the way the sneak attack perk bonuses are in the same branch of the tree, so you have to take the close-up 6x perk for one-handed before you can get only 3x for bows. She won't want the 15x dagger perk beyond it.

And she's shopping for an outfit like this one I made for Oblivion. - I think I can patch it together in Nifskope - if I can find the sleeve part!

Inanna had some Skyrim wackiness today. She was walking down the road south of Dawnstar when she saw a roadside thief lurking ahead. So she armored up with her Oakflesh, and then the thief went darting the other way with daggers out!?! Inanna raced after her, and found a Khajiit caravan slugging it out with some Ice Wolves. The Thief jumped into the fray, and then moment later Innana leaped in after the Thief. She killed the Thief, and the Khajiit killed the wolves. Afterward one of the Khajiit sees the Thief's corpse and says "What happened here!" *facepalm*

I have been playing Hervor again lately, and over the past few days she has explorated the south eastern corner of the Rift: Shor's Stone, Fort Greenwall, Forelhost, Broken-Helm Hollow, Faldar's Tooth, and so on.

I am debating whether or not to try the Dawnguard questline with her. On one hand she looks good in the red Dawnguard armor. But I am not sure if a questline with so much magic stuff is really suitable for her. After all, she is a very down-to-nirn character, whose only magic use is a healing spell. Still, the Atronach stone does give her a certain funkiness when it comes to dealing with magic.

Created a new character to play through the Dark Brotherhood line. He's a scrawny Dunmer who was horrified at the way his kin were treated in Windhelm. When he discovered the kid that was sent off to an orphanage from the same city, it took him over the edge into revenge on the Nord society, and especially Ulfric. Not being a bulky guy, he's opted for stealth and especially backstabbing with a dagger. Heading for the x15 perk on daggers, boosted by DB equipment for even more damage. The Blade of Woe should become awesome when all the ducks line up.

He's hired Jenassa from Whiterun as an assistant, and risen rapidly in the DB ranks. He declined to help the Jarl of Whiterun with his dragon problem; he'd had enough of them at Helgen. Dragons are a Nord's problem, not a Dunmer's. Jenassa is equipped for dual-wielding with the Windshear as her off-hand weapon, and we're looking for a nice bow to round her out.

While he was in the Solitude area doing a major job for the DB, he discovered a location for a home, and he's busy building it right now. It helps his smithing build up, as he rather wants the Arcane Blacksmith perk to improve his enchanted armour and weapons. It's also not too long a commute to the Dawnstar Sanctuary, which is a bit bare for his tastes. He doesn't want to live there, but it's a reasonable place to work.

He chose the bedrooms option, so the place has a lot of space for a family. He hasn't found an Amulet yet (any of them, let alone that one!) so Jenassa's just a follower at present. The way he's looking at her, it won't stay that way for long!

ETA:

Just had a ceremony in Riften. Not surprisingly, nobody else turned up to witness, as everyone else he's met is now dead (or has too high a bounty to be seen in public). Now he needs to recruit a steward for his property. Jenassa's not eligible, so he's thinking about that Brelyna Maryon he met at the College, when he went to pick up some spells. He'd also like to leave the wife at home and put a different companion in harm's way, so it might be Aranea Irenith again. She's only allowed to be a follower, so that kinda determines her job!

Wot no Dunmer kids to adopt? I might have to fix that! I suspect the multitude of facial morphs required is the primary reason for their non-existence, but there may be a way to bulk-convert the human ones if I preserve the vertices of the base head.

That sounds like a fun RP, ghastly. ghastley. My computer's got an auto-correct feature that makes ghastley spelled like ghastly, unless I retype your name over and over. biggrin.gif I like that approach: "dragons are the Nord's problem." Is his game dragon-free, then?

Ha ha I just read this! laugh.gif There definitely are some wacky moments here and there where everybody goes ape[censored]!

Lord Haaf-Mersey is in um...Glacial Crevice, a section of Forgotten Vale (Dawnguard stuff). I didn't think I'd enjoy this part of the questline, but I figured out a way to make it fun, by writing down each area LHM and Serana have visited so far.

They are supposed to visit five different places in this huge valley, basically, but I was having trouble keeping track of how many places they have been to. So I started all over again, this time writing each place he visited. This made the entire process so much easier. I used to do stuff like this (write strategies down) in Oblivion sometimes, but I've fallen out of the habit.

Bla bla bla...

I loved the Forgotten Vale. It really is a huge place, and there is a lot of little nooks and crannies you can miss. I recall there are some special items you have to find in order to active a gate in it that takes you to different places depending on what items you have. I think Auriel's Shield is in one of those. I loved the view from the top of Vyrthur's castle.

I think the Atronach Stone provides excellent incentive for a mundane warrior to target magic-users such as vampires and necromancers. Actually you’ve given me an idea for an orc paladin who uses magic only for defense. Stendarr’s Aura and healing spells. Hmmm…

Plus, Hervor looks great in the uniform! And we know what’s most important. wink.gif

ghastley, congrats to Jenassa and the Dunmer! What’s his name?

ohmy.gif That would be AWESOME.

Renee, that’s a great idea for Forgotten Vale. I’m saving that for when I really can commit to a long adventure. I loved that place when I went through with Mikke!

Oops, Added: Jerric and friends have helped restore Helgen thanks to a mod. I won’t spoil any details, but he did surprise me at the end. It was clear that there would be a difficult situation, and I thought he would bring Darnand along for moral support. He brought Abiene.
