I used to play chess quite a bit when I was in school. But I got bored of it.

For a game that should be about strategy, I never had to think ahead, never considered my opponents next moves, I just took the game one move at a time. I took the move that seemed best, and judged that each turn.

And I rarely lost. Kinda took the fun out of it.

I'm not so sure I'd say it's more fun to have a plan and execute it, but it's more fun to need a strategy.

If there's no challenge, no drive to actually think ahead, then there's nothing to the game.

But when you know you can win without one, that creating a plan is just wasted effort, because you're going to win anyway, then it just becomes meaningless.

If they can't beat you without you having a plan, how could they stop a strategic approach?

Winning like that has never been fun for me.

You wouldn't like chess on your PC. Compared to Skyim, the scenery is awful, there are only six classes, and you don't get to choose anything but your colour. There's only one chance to level up, and there's only one quest in the whole game. Who'd play a game like that?
