QUOTE(King Of Beasts @ Feb 3 2014, 04:26 PM) If it's zero or below out when it snows, it should be painfully cold. It can snow at any temp below 40, because honestly, that's pretty warm.
It's not too cold outside, but it's snowing enough to stick. 37°F seems like a reasonable temp, where its cold enough to snow, but it's not cold to the point where it's painful.
Ah, well now you're talking about Celsius in relation to Fahrenheit. Since Celsius is internally consistent, you can't really say it doesn't make sense. Thus far your arguments are based on personal experience and Fahrenheit, which aren't remotely a viable basis from which to say it doesn't make sense. To counter yours, I could argue that Fahrenheit makes no sense, because 30 degrees is bloody hot, not freezing cold. Getting us nowhere. What you should be saying is that you don't understand Celsius, since you can't equate it to the temperatures you've experienced, always defined in Fahrenheit.

No, that's not what I should be saying at all. 30 degrees isn't hot
Look at it as a scale of 0-10 in a way. In this case, 10 represents 100.
The closer the number is to 0, the colder it is, the closer it is to 100, the hotter, and 50 would be a neutral zone, where it's not too cold, it's not to hot
Temple 0-40 could be considered cold, since they are closer to 0 than anything above 50. 60-100 are on the warmer side, since they're closer to 10 on the scale
It just doesn't make sense for a number so close to 0 to be considered hot.

Now this is what's known as a fallacy, since neither Fahrenheit nor Celsius work on a scale of 1-100. For example: The melting point of Iron 1,538 Clesius or 2,795 Fahrenheit. In relation to this, 100 is positively cold, not even close to being hot. Since the scale you're judging this by lacks any real values, and therefore lacks consistency, it's a fundamentally invalid scale by which to judge them on.

When talking about meting metal, yes, 100 is cold, but we're not talking about melting points. We're talking about temp outside, the earth isn't gonna have an atmosphere hot enough to melt metal, because then it would be uninhabitable.
It's better to have a temp system with a proper scale than one with temps all over the place.
If you're saying that the evidence I'm using is invalid, then that goes for you as well. You can't say Celsius is the right way to measure temp, because quite frankly, it isn't. I'm not saying Fahrenheit is either, the truth is there is no proper scale for temperature, but it's more logical to put the wether on a 0-10 scale, where the closer the temp is to 0 the colder it is, than have a scale where 30, which is very close to 0, burning hot. It just doesn't make sense. It's just completely illogical to consider a temp so close to 0 burning hot.
