*Fac-e-Palm*...
This is where I tend to stay out of stuff to do with Lore...Whichever brand we're talking about...
I love the idea of Star Wars...I bought every single novel, right up until the end of the Legacy of The Force sequence...
Do I consider myself an fan?...Absolutely...
I was there from the start...My Dad and I saw the first one in the cinema and it was amazing...Even at that young age...
But I think the depths that it's gone to...And the desperation for it to be more than a boys-own Saturday Morning Cinema Matinee for older kids, a-la Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon...Which Lucas originally conceived it as...And that it now be some deep philosophical historical adult epic is ridiculous...
I'm sorry, but when they killed off two of Han and Leia's kids, I called it on my own obsession with it...
Star Wars should be about iconic, inspiring heroes and cartoon-y villainous villains that make you go "Boo-hiss"...Not all of this "The force is what it is - it's all from a certain point of view" crap...
Although...That is all entirely, my own and considered over many many years opinion...
And the Clone Wars, although it changed far too much of the EU, for me...Was watched by those for whom it was intended...The youngsters that George had aimed Star Wars at in the first place...And, I repeat, managed it again with the Prequels...

I tuned out of the Star Wars books with the New Jedi Order series. Though I've missed out a few books leading up to them. Just couldn't get into them. and then I read the Joiner King trilogy or whatever it was called and saw a couple of Jedi, Jacen and Jaina Solo I think? Blocking an orbital bombardment with their lightsabers. Sure It's like I said last night, Star Wars moved on from Lucas' original vision. It's no surprise that some people hate the newer films, which ignore all of that in favour of things like Jar-Jar Binks. If it was all fan-fiction and stuff I could understand, but all the books and games and the like are licensed Star Wars products. And of course now that he's sold out to Disney the entire Extended Universe has been declared non-canon. The funny thing it, give Star Wars fans a choice between George Lucas' Star Wars universe, and the Extended Universe, and most would take the Extended Universe. Even if only up to a point. I think Lucas might have virtually killed the Star Wars franchise now.

I agree with the EU thing...I didn't know that Disney had declared it all non-canon...I was pretty well okay with it all until right then...Just that moment right there...I believe there was a thunderclap to go along with it... I also didn't know about that bit with the lightsabers...I ignored Troy Denning after he killed off Anakin Solo...Well, I'm sure it wasn't his fault per-se, he did what he was told and it was actually a pretty glorious fight that finished it...But the fact that it was his book put me off Denning's stuff...And since then, any Denning novel, and there's been a few, has resulted in my renewed disgust at the book franchise... But the Joiner King ones got on my nerves something chronic...I own all three, but I think I only ever got to about halfway through the second before I literally threw it down and never finished them...He's the main reason I've never got this latest sequence, I forget the name of them... Urgh...They're going to watch the remake of Carrie now...So...Still here for a while then!... ...

Well, Disney decided to re-evaluate what is and isn't canon, and Lucas has said in the past that anything beyond the movies isn't as far as he's concerned. Somehow I don't see Disney having anymore regard for the EU than Lucas does. So while they've not outright said it, everyone knows what they mean. Throw in the differences between the Marvel Comics universe and the Marvel films, and it's pretty obvious what they're going to do.
