It kept directing my bookmark to a search engine for this forum, so I changed my bookmark thinking it had been hijacked, lol.

More domain name problems. They are now resolved, but I'm really annoyed with the registrar and I'm actively thinking about taking my business elsewhere. Incompetent idiots.

It went down again this morning, my phone said it couldn't connect due to a DNS error. Might be worth looking at that.

I think this was a bit more than simple DNS. I could still resolve Chorrol.com to an IP address yesterday, but it's on a multi-host server, with Birdstage.net and Carangul.com also at 78.47.80.102. Using the IP address got me to Carangul.com, which just shows a logo page, with no useful link onward.

The missing link was the sub-site one at the host, not the DNS lookup. I.e. it's the host's fault, not the registrar's - unless they're the same company - the host owns a class A network, 78.x.x.x, so they're big!

Interestingly, SameIp.org shows one less site at that address today. Probably fixed(?) at the same time.

The registrar is to blame. Nobody else. Well perhaps ICANN, too. For good measure.

He's doing fine. He takes a swim in a tub of coffee every morning, enough to get him through another day.

So it's been a miserable weekend for me.

Started with an accident on Friday night coming home from work - I suspect my car has been totaled.

So Saturday I picked up a rental car, and it's not the same as my car. Driving home that night it really hit me how much I miss my car. It was most likely the best car I've ever owned.

And now I have to wait until Wednesday to find out if the car is indeed totaled, and if so, how much the insurance will pay me for it.

And then I have court (I'm at fault - I rear-ended the other guy) coming up, will likely have to pay fines for failure to reduce speed. I also will likely see my insurance premiums go up. And I was so close to paying off the car, I'll likely have to start over with a new loan.

Ugh.

So sorry about your car, sounds like you liked it very much. That other stuff was indeed bad too but wrecking your car hurt me too because I know how much I´d miss mine.

Saturn Aura XE 2009

Awesome car for winter driving. Didn't mind all the crappy snowy conditions we got last winter. Lots of nice little amenities that I didn't think necessary in the beginning, but now realize that they're hard to live without. Second favorite car I've ever owned.

@Acadian: no, it doesn't take much to total a car, but I rather suspect it's due to the high cost of body work these days. However all of the damage to my car was confined to the engine compartment - broken radiator, maybe damaged engine block, but the cabin was intact and I sustained no injuries at all. The other vehicle was a Rover - those things are built like tanks, and of course its rear bumper rode over my front bumper and led to all that damage, but its back end was pretty much intact. I'm grateful for that because there were kids in the rear seat of that truck.

Yikes, haute, that really stinks. I’m glad that no one was hurt. It sounds like your Saturn did a good job keeping you safe. Fingers crossed for a good agreement with your insurance.

God damn, that absolutely sucks, H.E.R. I really hope things work out alright for you.

Ouch! At least there were no serious injuries. Cars are a lot easier to fix or replace than people.

If you're unhurt, that's the important thing. Especially with the recent news about exploding airbags and shrapnel.

And that suggests the car will be repairable, too. There's a lot of "crumple zone" at the front of a car these days that's designed to be sacrificial in collision like that, and so they make it easy to replace. If the main body shell didn't get bent, you'll probably get it back. Just make sure it's fixed by a place that uses real parts, not cheap replicas.
