So we all want to know: Did you roll the cake? Did anyone take a picture after you rolled the cake? Is the number on top your age?

I have a new bed! I went out shopping yesterday, and after looking all over, I went back to the very first one I saw. It is an Amish built queen-size made from cherrywood. I am looking forward to the extra space, especially for my toes. My feet always wound up sticking off the side of my old Full size bed. I went all in, and bought a new mattress as well, and even new 1,000 thread count sheets, and a new uber pillow. Here it is with the matching night stand, without anything on itAnd with everything on itIt sits up really high. I am glad I got the bunkie board instead of box springs for it. Otherwise I would need a ladder to get into it! Freya had to explore it before giving her approvalThis post has been edited by SubRosa: Oct 27 2014, 05:57 PM

I was about to say that "everything" should include cats, but it appears that already happened.
Inquiring minds want Spots' opinion!

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Oct 28 2014, 01:11 PM) Spots however, is afraid of the bed, and won't go in the room.
How did you achieve that? The secret would be invaluable to many.

I had a good night's sleep last night in the new bed. It was wonderful to wake up without my back or shoulder being sore. I am so glad I bought that bed! QUOTE(ghastley @ Oct 28 2014, 04:05 PM) How did you achieve that? The secret would be invaluable to many.
Spots is feral, so he frightens very easily. He still won't set foot onto any of the cat beds I have laid out around the house either. Freya was afraid of the bed at first too. But she has always been around people, so she is used to people stuff, and her curiosity for new things always wins out in the end. This post has been edited by SubRosa: Oct 29 2014, 02:52 AM

When my feral cats have come inside, they spent most of their time UNDER the beds and dressers watching everything. lol. By the time one finally started playing with one of the dangling toys, one of the others would be ready to go back out and they would all leave in a charge out the door as if something had frightened them - these are cats that face down hawks, possoms, dogs, foxes, etc - only afraid inside the house, lol. Cherry is my favorite wood for furniture, what a beautiful color it is.

Spots has not figured out hiding. When he is afraid, his first reaction is to run instead. He's used to the wide open spaces outside, where there is always somewhere to run to. So he always heads straight to the door and starts crying when something scares him. Such as anyone other than me. Freya, otoh, is an indoor cat. So she hides when something scares her. She usually heads under the bed. This post has been edited by SubRosa: Oct 29 2014, 07:46 PM

My one indoor cat shoots for under the bed at the first hint of thunder - all three dogs act like they have lost their last nut, they run around whining, making whistling noises, and climbing on furniture they KNOW they are not allowed on. (therefore, at the first sign of a storm I give the "Kennels" command and head their frenzy off before they can get too worked up).

To both Freya and Spots, a new bed = CAT-EATING MONSTER!
But Freya, being an indoor kitty, soon figured out "oh, another piece of furniture to sleep on."
Spots, OTOH, has not yet figured out that if you sleep in it, SR, it's okay for him too sleep on too. I suspect that at this point he has not yet come to trust you enough to take your word for it that it is safe, and that the home you create is a safe environment for him. Like you said, it's his feral background talking. He's used to seeing danger in every new thing.
Give him time. Lots and lots of it. Don't worry if he'll never come into the room, I'm sure Freya loves having the bed all to herself.
