Well, Disney discarded all the Extended Universe stuff, all of that's now considered non-canon. There was a supposed leak about the plot which makes it sound like they're just cherry-picking whatever bits of the EU they pick out of a hat. But that was probably a load of crap, who knows?

The way I figure it, it'll turn out one of two ways:

Either a bodge job of random EU stuff thrown together, to try to stop fans of the EU disowning the film entirely. Probably while making it as accessible as possible.

Or just a generic sci-fi plot with Star Wars characters.

The one thing we can almost guarantee, with Jar Jar Abrams involved, it's not going to make any sense in relation to the previous films...

And lens flares. Lots of lens flares

I have to agree with the Thorndog ... er, cat on this. And not just because it was his Birthday when he posted.

Sequels are notorious for diluting the original lore/compromising the integrity of the story/etc - making it as generically stretched as far as they possibly can to lure the largest mass of income from it - and make up for all that is lacking when compared to the original by exploding the screen with FX/hyper graphics/dragons and think the public will be so blinded/excited by these that they may not notice the lack of plot or the blatant deviation from lore.

Which is why I stand by my words; it all ended with Palpatine taking a dive

You know what I'm going to do?

I'm going to withhold judgement on it until I've actually seen it or at the very least read multiple reviews, instead of making a decision based on shooting rumours, one 90 second trailer and what seem to be incredibly rose-tinted spectacles. To me that seems to be the most sensible choice.

Edit: Also, mirocu, what are you going to do if the film ends up being legitimately good? Like, builds on the existing lore, is well written, is exciting etc and is generally all round good?

Won´t see it, actually. Don´t watch movies anymore. But I´d think that I still just regard the original ones as the "real" ones, even if I´m the only one doing that. Tough call though, if the moive is really, genuinely good, I might have to re-evaluate that answer...

Probably what I'll do as well but to be honest, I'm not overly enthusiastic about Disney owning the series now.

That was my first gut reaction as well.

mirocu, I'm really sorry, my friend. I so admire your cheerful persistence, despite the lousy news. I so hope you find a work niche that you enjoy and that also recognizes the value you bring to any endeavor.

Well, I knew from the beginning that I only had until Christmas and since I know this guy from when he bought us up and shut us down without blinking I knew he wasn´t just gonna keep me even if I´m needed. So it wasn´t so bad, the biggest impact was when I lost my first job. After a year unemployed I´ve sort of accepted the idea that I will go from place to place.


I´ll manage. At least I still have good money in the bank and I don´t have any loans, despite having bought that ´cavator this spring
