I liked David Tennant

Chris was always my favorite though.

Much as I like Eccleston as The Doctor, I'd have to say Tenant was my favourite. But that was mostly due to the better writing in the series he did(up until the last one).

Matt Smith on the other hand I simply couldn't take seriously. When you go with a younger Doctor (even though River said the Doctor she first met looked older than Tenant? blink.gif ) and throw in a very cute redhead as his assistant who turns up dressed as a policewoman in a miniskirt, you're making it very clear what you're doing with the series.

It cheapened it, imho. Buying flash with what they assumed would be sexual draw (it wasn't for me, neither of them, lol) at the expense of good writing, quality acting, and in depth plots and characters. I stopped watching all the new Who's and went back to just watching the reruns when Matt became the Who.

I personally hoped Alan Rickman would have gotten the role in 2009.

Exactly. I just couldn't stomach them anymore. Though I still think the writing was getting worse throughout the Donna series, once Matt Smith became The Doctor it really took a nosedive.

Alan Rickman would have been awesome. Though it would have left me wondering if at some point Bruce Willis would turn up to throw him off a skyscraper rollinglaugh.gif

Then again, Rickman is better suited to villains. But can you imagine how awesome it would be if Rickman had gotten the role of The Master? blink.gif biggrin.gif

Donna I never really liked. They tried far too hard to make her special, right from the start. I mean, The Doctor was genuinely astonished that shed been able to find him again. And that business with the Metacrisis...

Personally, while I thought Amy was the best looking(REDHEAD! hubbahubba.gif), Rose was definitely my favourite.

I've seen Alan Rickman in some good roles too, (Sense and Sensibility, for one) but - yeah, that Die Hard is one of my fave movies. He is Awesome in about any role he plays.

On Donna - I think that is what was so intriguing - that hint of a story behind the story; that they had met in the past and there was most def a story behind it - what bothered me is that they never finished that thought; left it dangling there as if it was a teaser - but now it is years later and that teaser has never come to fruition - so it was just a lost opportunity; and the writers missed it or messed it up.

@ Mirocu - I take it you are not a Doctor Who fan?

Yeah, he was great in Die Hard, but he had better lines in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. I can almost picture him as the Doctor threatening to cut out one of The Masters hearts with a spoon rollinglaugh.gif

Well the past meeting was The Runaway Bride, one of the christmas specials, but that whole series was basically built around the Metacrisis being such a unique event that it rippled backwards through time, hence all the Badwolf references again(I don't think they were ever properly explained really). It might have worked if they hadn't been quite so heavy handed with it. I mean; her not meeting The Doctor again was literally the end of the universe.

Also, I find it kinda funny that in all this talk of the various assistants, no-one's mentioned Martha Jones laugh.gif

Martha is my favorite companion from the new Whos. She is smart, she's daring, and like me, she knows what it s like to not be loved back, and when it is time to move on because of that. Plus, she is rather easy on the eyes.

It was really heavy handed, and you are right - I did miss the reference; but didn't miss that he said there would be a future meeting.

I thought Martha was a student, not an assistant? Donna was there too then, and the storyline of Donna and Doctor Who meeting in the past kind of took over the focus so Martha almost ran as a third wheel in it. It was really not well done to showcase her; that is for sure.

Martha was alright, but I think they shouldn't have had her fall for The Doctor. After Rose you knew she didn't have a chance, kind of took a lot out of it. Personally, I always thought it undermined her character. Other than that she was great, especially in the last episodes as companion. Sure, it was The Doctor's plan to beat The Master, but Martha's the one who did it. Easily the best send-off any of the companions got.

Isn't Donna's head supposed to explode if she remembers about The Doctor? Because human's can't hold a Timelord's mind in their heads or something?

And while we're on the subject of Doctor Who; anyone else think that Tenant's last goodbye to everyone was beautifully done? One last helping hand to them all before he went. Or that it was a shame that Kylie Minogue didn't survive the episode with the Titanic to become the new companion?

I loved seeing all the companions together at the end of season four, and then again seeing Doctor Tenant making all the rounds to visit each one last time before he regenerated. That last part had me crying. Especially when he met Rose. "I don't want to go." is exactly what I was thinking as well.

Tenant was always my favorite Doctor. He gave the role an extra depth which I don't think the other actors - at least in the modern series - have. It was there in his eyes, and in all the things he could not say, that soul-deep sorrow for all the people he couldn't save. Like Kylie Minogue (oh she would have been such a wonderful companion!). The happy-go-lucky Matt Smith Doctor that followed him seemed shallow in comparison.

That part is easily one of my favourite Doctor Who moments. They didn't go over the top with it, but it still hit like a truck.

While I think Christopher Eccleston could have been better if he'd done more than one series, I'd have to agree. With David Tenant you could almost see The Doctor's ghosts.

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Jan 29 2015, 10:08 PM) *

I'm not one to use the word "adorable" much, but there simply isn't another word for that moment she hopped up on that box to kiss him. Why, oh why, couldn't they have gotten her as a companion. sad.gif

Matt Smith tried too hard to be wacky, and they tried to top Tenant, a major mistake. Tenant made it look natural somehow, even after seeing The Doctor in full-blown mourning mode.

And geronimo is nowhere near as good allons-y! biggrin.gif
