... Soooo...Monday night...Put the computer on...Go do something else...Start talking to McWife up the stairs, 'cause that's where she was at that particular moment...Realise there's a really hideous grinding noise coming from towards the computer...Walk in that direction... That's when I realised it was pouring forth blue/black smoke... ...Sooooo...I ran around like a headless chicken!!! ... NO!!...Wait...Instantly figuring it was an electrical problem, I switched the socket off...Took a moment to think about it and then pulled the comp from its shelf - whilst hearing the sizzling going on inside - unplugged it all and then carried it out to the front garden...All the time aware of the continuing smoke... *Sigh*... Sooooo... I can't help but wonder if it wasn't trying to run Elite Dangerous which overtaxed the already wonky graphics card fan... ...Which it turned out was what had gone on fire... ... And, me being me...I can't help but think about the..."What if I had been somewhere else..."...Aspect of things... Aaaanyways...New comp...New stuff..."New and improved" iTunes...*Sigh*..." Noooo...Give me all of my stuff...Not just the last three months, you arse..."... Similar brains to the other one, just with 1TB hard-drive...Should run Elite easily now...Though I'm not sure, given how I tend to work, whether I can now be arsed...*Sigh*... But of course...On top of the past year...It really is getting a bit much now... Still...Only two weeks until I'm off... That really can't come quickly enough...Though, I guess it'll take as long as usual... ...Dammit!!... This post has been edited by McBadgere: Mar 7 2015, 10:31 AM

Yes...That's right... My computer went on fire and had I not been there, many of the paper items nearby might have caught light and burned my house down... Yes, that is essentially what I'm driving at.. ... But hey, new computer, eh?... ...

What?... ... I don't mean turn it on and leave the house...But it used to take a while to "warm up"...So I would switch it on, go do some stuff...Y'know...Talk to the wife and what have you while it was doing its stuff...It's not like they take all that much power if you just leave it to its own... Besides, some people just leave it on all day...Don't they?... It was off...then I switched on...Then it was sparking and smoking... Oy...

Guilty as charged. Though, after hearing what happened to you I may have to re-think that position! QUOTE It was off...then I switched on...Then it was sparking and smoking...
Oy...
QUOTE(mirocu @ Mar 7 2015, 02:09 AM) Luckily nothing major happened and both the McFamily and the McHouse are McSafe! Indeed! Cheers on the new 'puter.

Today is not a happy day in our family. I have an uncle but he doesn't live in the same town as we, so we don't see each other too often but I kept hearing that he's been feeling bad for the past four months and the previous week his wife told me that he's losing weight rapidly. As a doctor, I couldn't understand why his personal doctor doesn't send him to hospital already or at least order him some tests so I visited him on Friday and I convinced him to come to our town and sign in my office so I could take his blood tests and do additional tests. I can't believe that in the past four months his stupid doctor couldn't even once test tumor markers in his blood which I did on Friday and today I got results - the marker, specific for pancreatic cancer, is so elevated that I haven't seen it so high in any of my patients. I arranged him to be taken to a hospital immediately and while I encouraged him that everything will probably be fine, I know in myself that it's over for my uncle. Unfortunately, pancreatic cancer is one of the most dangerous cancers because it gets diagnosed when it's too late, its symptoms are unspecific so it remains hidden for long. By now it probably spread to his back and gall bladder / bile ducts because he has pain in his back and has become slightly jaundiced during this weekend. It won't help much but tomorrow his doctor will get a visit from me, because she had a chance to take these tests four months ago already and she should do it because he already lost a lot of weight, as he told me on Friday. Maybe she'll learn something for the future though I won't be nice to her, not at all. I only regret that I haven't asked him about his troubles sooner but the problem is that we saw each other rarely, besides he didn't think that it's anything important and didn't want to trouble me.

I'm so sorry about your Uncle, Lopov. My deepest wish is that despite the prognosis; that he doesn't suffer pain and that his days from here out are surrounded by family that loves him.
