QUOTE(ghastley @ Mar 24 2015, 08:50 AM) When I lived in London, one of the neighbours had a Mountain Lion as a pet. It thought it was a dog, I think, and went walking with him (on a strong chain) around the streets in Kensington. Don't let one lick your hand! It will almost take the skin off. And they're hopeless watchdogs, because they don't bark. Very cool! I'd love to see a picture of that!

It was about 70 degrees by the time we got to the elephants. The animals were all out enjoying the sun. Except for the polar bear who was probably sulking in one of her ice caves where we couldn’t see her. That mountain lion was meowing like a housecat because one of the guys who raised him and his sister from tiny cubs was standing with us. ghastley, I imagine that he had also accidentally lost some layers of skin to their affection. Yesterday’s adventures took me to the Gold Coast. Close encounter thanks to The Girl’s generosity with cookies. I warned her! A goliath grouper, one of my favorite animals since I saw one at the National Aquarium in DC (which is closed at present) in the 1970s.

Grits, life's a beach! The National Aquarium is closed? Wow. When I went off to college in the early 70's, I gave my water turtle, Sam, to them. She was one of those dime store turtles (Mississippi Elegant Slider, or 'Red Ear' terrapin) and had grown to the size of a tea cup saucer. They said they'd quarantine her for awhile, then put her in the wonderful fountain pond with the other terrapins. I hope they found her a good home. If she's alive, I guess she'd be nearly 50 now. Didja know: Turtle = salt water turtle, Terrapin = fresh water turtle, Tortoise = land turtle. Luvs turtles - they're just my speed.

Acadian, I like to think that at 50 your Sam is still enjoying the long, golden afternoon of her turtle (terrapin!) life. I’m sure I would have seen her over the years on my many trips to DC. That really makes me smile. I grew up about an hour away and visited the museums a lot. Turtles have always been high on my list of priorities. The other day at the beach we (me and kids) stood and watched a bunch of turtles on a log in a pond. They had about five too many for stability. A handful kept getting tipped or knocked off, and then when they tried to climb back on the log would roll to the side causing others to fall off, then the log would snap back the other way and all of the turtles would lean together (and sometimes too far) to try to stay on. Now I know how they all get so perfectly lined up all facing the same direction! When they closed the DC aquarium for building renovations a couple of years ago, the National Aquarium at Baltimore took in a lot of the DC animals. I’m sure the rest were carefully relocated. As far as I know the aquarium is still investigating options to reestablished a presence in DC. That old aquarium was a real treasure. Lol, mALX! I just waved my phone around and mashed the button to get that bird picture. It was a hectic scene with a lot of fast maneuvering to get The Girl into the car without any gulls attached to her! I couldn’t believe that I actually got a good shot. I’m glad I didn’t accidentally take a video. It would have been all swear words and screaming! SubRosa, I thought the trees with moss at the beach looked like Leyawiin, and when we were in Colonial Williamsburg yesterday I thought of the gardens in the Imperial City. I guess that means I’m supposed to play some Oblivion!

It is implied by the coloration of the hair, an obvious attempt to distract attention from the boobies. It won't work. We men are wise to these tricks. And inquiring minds want to know, are you planning longer legs next?
