I'm heading to my last class of the semester. It's my favorite so it's a bit sad....but now this means I have time for games and writing and Orange is the New Black!

Congrats on finishing the semester!

I bought a new hard drive a few days ago. Like the old one it is an SSD. But where the old one had 128 gb in storage, this one has a terabyte. So now I have room to put more than just the operating system and a 3 games on it.

Needless to say, ever since I have been reinstalling things. I am still going at it. The computer does boot up really fast now - about 20 seconds.

While my Win 3.1 computer boots up I have time to do the dishes, buy groceries, clean the cottage and visit a neighbour



Nah, it doesn´t have much so it boots up as fast as my Win 7 one

Wow, a terabyte SSD? That is Awesome! I couldn't find anything bigger than my 250 gb one, lol. I have a terabyte standard drive in bay E, and move everything over to it rather than use the SSD (which is my C drive) - so it boots up and downloads really fast, but there really isn't room to keep more than my OS on it; especially not my games since with the mods they end up taking up well more than 250 gb, lol.

Has anyone seen the new "Steam machines" and hardware? What is that all about, is it a new competitor to the console game machines? One is made by Alienware!

Its basically a PC that is meant to connect only to your tv. It runs on a customized version of Linux with the Steam client built into it. They call it the Steam OS. The only thing it can do is connect to Steam and play Steam games. But on your tv set, like a console game. They also have a new game controller with more buttons than an X-Box or PS controller. Because it is Linux-based though, these Steam Boxes can only play Linux games. Which is almost no game on Steam.

They also cost the same or even more than a gaming PC. So buying one would be pretty foolish.

Valve's goal with these things is to have the Steam OS replace Windows as the dominant PC gaming operating system. I don't see it happening. In fact, I hope Microsoft strikes back by going into the online PC gaming storefront industry, and crushes Steam/Valve.

Microsoft don't need to strike back. If Steam keeps making decisions like this, they'll put themselves out of business

Trying to take on both the PC and console markets simultaneously, with a machine that has all the weaknesses of both, and none of the strengths.

Gotta love Steam logic.

We had really bad storms here - a tree fall on a lady's car with her 12 week old infant in it not far from our house - baby is fine, but Mom in the ER. And another tree fell on a mobile home in a nearby town and killed a three year old boy.

Really bad storms. My husband had to go out between storms and pull huge branches out of the road and driveway so my son can get home later.
