No, not really. The archery does not have the solid feel that games like Elder Scrolls. It is more pull and hear the arrow go 'ting,' if that makes sense. The game world is not open world but hubs that load the area in. Nothing as good as Beth games.

Where the game does excel is just that liberating feeling of just being lost in the ancient world with huge walls and waterfalls, the usual Tomb Raiding stuff. The ice caverns and detail on the walls really makes you feel that you are miles inside a mountain rather than just using a load cell like Bethesda.

So some parts are better but most is miles behind Beth.

I would give it 8.5 out of ten, it is very good. Just a few too many cut scenes and set piece moments.

I am hoping for more open Tombs in the next one. These ones are too small. We need some huge 5 level thing for the game to be 'epic.'

I remember when the first Tomb Raider came out. Almost immediately there was talk about mods that made Lara run around in her b-day suit... tongue.gif

That is why they set this game in Siberia. Only polar bears are silly enough to be naked. laugh.gif

It is absolutely the best character graphics I've ever seen in any game! Is the game as good as it looks substance and gameplay-wise?

The reason they can do it is that there is zero customisation of the player character, so they only need to provide one high-res, high-detail model - Lara. All the rest is lower-detail, because it's transient, and not the focus of attention. Not much lower, but enough is saved by only having one focal character to pay for the rest.

They do have to make several versions of her in different outfits, but only one will ever be on-screen, so that's a development team consideration, not an engine one.

If I had her to play wirh, I could see me not caring about adventure as much as parading her around in front of the camera in different settings and outfits for screenshots! laugh.gif

The first shot is a capture from one of the early video cut scenes so that is why it looks so nice. We just sit back during that part and stare in amazement.

The other shots are pretty close to what the game is like.

The one I showed yesterday, this one, is straight from the in-game. The wall behind you closes the camera in and shows that level of detail.

That looks outstanding! But those look like Falmer ahead! I hope Lara packed a Deadric Sword to deal with them!

The portrayal of Lara has changed quite a bit over the years, and finally swung into favor of being reasonable, as this article points out. Though I am sure once it is out on PC the modding community will get cranking on those Nudie mods!

Thanks for that article, SubRosa. Yes, Lara is so different now when compared to those early days. She just feels so cool, that is the only way to describe it. In one scene the male antagonist is trying to put pressure on her and the way that she outwits him is one of the most clever ways I have ever seen in a computer game.

She thinks on her feet now and that shows how the industry itself has grown up.

*Is jealous*

My luck tends to be either bad, or quirky and ineffective. To be honest, I don't know why I even bother buying lottery tickets, not that I do it often, only when the jackpot gets over a certain amount.

I guess if I were in the Star Wars universe I'd be a Correlian: No regard whatsoever for the odds laugh.gif

I´m not interested in playing a game in that way though I have to admit, at the time I was young enough to think it was a bit interesting.. laugh.gif

It's not a scary story, but it gets pretty dark.

The segment I wrote was a flashback for the main character. He saw his soon-to-be-fiance cheating on him, learnt that she is in fact being mentally manipulated and dominated by one of her friends(who was right there on the bed beside her, and the guy is the one she brought to the party). He literally watches as the friend destroys his lover's mind right in front of him.

*shudders*

Edit: Just wrote another segment involving that "friend". Gods, that woman is evil. Fortunately, I'm now done with her.
