Neither of them has any particular reason to go there. And I'm thinking that taking an unarmoured Mystic Archer in there is going to end badly.

I don't think they'd take kindly to that kind of interference. I'm just along for the ride really, they're the ones calling the shots.

I miss being able to direct my characters like that

Same here. At some point when you have a character long enough, they begin taking over the reins from you and it is sometimes surprising where they choose to go or what they choose to do. Sometimes things I never would have chosen for them (like the time Maxical took off to the Jeralls and wouldn't come back down for months).

The same thing happens in writing, if you are listening to your characters - example: I couldn't write Maxical and Count Skingrad in the same room without the two of them bickering back and forth and sniping each other verbally. I don't know why, it was not my intention that they fight like cats and dogs - but it made for some of the funniest scenes in the story, imho.

These days my characters start out like that, they don't need to work at it



Heh, that's one of the things that's made the story I'm writing impossible to plan. My characters keep changing things when I'm not looking
