Had another less than ideal night's rest. Some time after supper I grew tired of putzing around on the computer and decided to read in bed, maybe until my 2030 milk snack. I didn't make it to 2030. Not sure when I nodded off, but suspect between 1930 and 2000. Next thing I know it's circa 2245. I'm rather groggy so turn off the lights and computer and return to bed. I could not nod off again. Around 0030 I admitted defeat, switched on the headboard light and began reading. Come 0230 I felt I might be able to sleep so offed the light. I 'almost' nodded off three times between then and 0330, coming so close that my thoughts would begin to morph into dreams maybe a minute before I remastered them. Between 0330 and 0400 I believe they did completely morph so that I might have gotten 15-20min true sleep. Come 0400 I was an hour from breakfast, and almost never sleep that late anyway, so knew it was hopeless. Returned to the computer and began my active day . . . such as it is. Truth to tell, the amount of sleep I got in between circa 1930-plus and 0400 isn't all that different from my norm, much as I wish it were otherwise. I wish I had had the sense do down a sleeping pill early enough to do me good. I didn't think of it until close to 0100, by which time I deemed it too far into my normal sleep cycle.
I wouldn't care much about that, or sleeping late, except that I take one important medication at the start of breakfast, and the first of my two medicated inhaler treatments immediately afterward. At 0630 I down my three daily heart meds. Now, postponing those every now and again won't do me any great harm. But I find that if I fall too far behind schedule I tend to forget and miss my doses all together.
On the plus side, I felt healthier and more alert much of yesterday morning, afternoon and on into the evening than I have in a long time. This allowed me to get in my first two lengthy gaming sessions in ages, and enjoy doing so.

Really great there was an upside to that night of unrest! I used to fall asleep reading too, not sure if it was the laying down position while reading or if my glasses prescription needed checked. I normally feel much better with shorter sleep cycles; anything over 5 hours and it starts making me feel overslept.

For the bulk of my adult life I too got in circa five hours sleep per night and was perfectly content doing so. Saw no reason to want more. No sure when I began getting appreciably less. I do know that it worried me enough by Nov 2011 that I began keep a sleep log, inexact though it is. Have you ever been to a sleep clinic? They are usually the ones that find out if there are any health issues causing changes in your sleep patterns (or any health issues that occur during your sleep that may be underlying - not overt enough for you to have become aware of them, only notice the symptom of changing sleep patterns or how you feel after sleeping). In my case, I get more and more tired the more sleep I get; so the doctor wanted to find out why. It turned out I had a heart issue that would not have been discovered had he not sent me to find out what was going on; and it was getting progressively worse. I never had a single symptom until this past September (2015), although the sleep clinic diagnosed it September of 2014. I have to be on heart medicine now for it, but had they not discovered it and taken steps to treat it, my heart event this past September may have been fatal. If a person has something like Sleep Apnea and doesn't know it, it will deteriorate your health progressively too if left untreated; and can be fatal as well. Sleep disturbances or changes in sleep patterns are usually the only warning sign you get that something is going on; and an alert doctor will check that out pretty promptly to rule out any serious issues. (so make sure your doctor knows if you are having sleep changes).

I see my attempts to cloud your mind with sickening images are failing. You break my heart.
