QUOTE(mALX @ Jun 17 2016, 01:37 AM) QUOTE(Callidus Thorn @ Jun 16 2016, 05:44 PM) It was nothing to do with the link.
But forget about it. The only thing worse than a joke that needs to be explained is a joke that needs to be pointed out.

Sooooo... That was in interesting morning...As in...Not... So a cow decided that rapid contact between my head and her leg was the thing to happen... I said "Ouch!", caught my glasses as they dropped, decided that as my head was still on my shoulders that I should proceed directly to the farm-house...And then I passed out for a few seconds before getting there... *Le sigh...*... I absolutely hate my job... Anyways...One trip to A&E later (and being seen by a thoroughly gorgeous red-head!!... which made everything better from the get-go!... ...) and I'm alright...Bruised as if having gone the distance with Frank Bruno...But thanks to my generally thick head, I seem to have escaped - well, that and the general design of the parlour - having my head taken off... Grrrr...

QUOTE(Tellie @ Jun 17 2016, 02:08 PM) You lucky bum...my own feeble attampts of wooing are severely handicapped at the moment due to half my face sloughing off while my nose is almost black (frostbite and severe sunburns).

Still I do have bragging rights of having climbed my second 8k metre peak (Cho Oyu being the first two years ago) Hoping for Everest next year, if I manage it I have the Seven Summits and 3 poles at the same time, having done the north and south pole already.
Bloody hell, absolutely fair dues!...Can't argue with that... How much do these expeditions cost, btw?... Also... 3 Poles?...North/South/?... And if that one you did recently was 8th highest and Everest for next year...Does that mean you've already done all them others in between already?...K2 and all that?... the three poles are north pole, south pole and Everest (highest point on the earth, wiki it XD)
And no, I've only done 2 8kilometre peak out of 14 and the two easiest ones at that...not that any 8k peak is easy. K2...I do hope to be able to complete all 8k peaks out there, but K2 will be one of the last, as besides Annapurna 1 (with a death toll of 41%) is considered the most difficult mountain in the world to climb (and has yet to be successfully sumitted during the winter).
The seven summits are an achievement you get for climbing the tallest mountain on each continent (including antarctica).
As for costs, they are usually pretty high. The 'lowest' price for an Everest expedition where you are guaranteed of good support (sherpas, Advanced Base Camp, experienced guides, extra oxygen and so forth) comes to around 40k USD. My trips to Cho Oyu and Manaslu cost 35k USD, fortunately I have contacts in various organisations in Norway so I get most of the costs for my trips sponsored, in return for pictures and written articles (my education in journalism helps with that).

Never tell me the odds!!!... But seriously...Them's pretty damned scary numbers... ...Wow...41% is near-as-dammit "You'll either die up there, or you won't..."... Ooooh, Wiki...While I'm there..."for every three thrill-seekers that make it safely up and down Annapurna I, one dies trying." No...Just...No... ... Is this a recognised thing with an awards ceremony/plaque/medal/luzury time-share apartment by the sea...A calm sea...Free from tsunami danger...and everything...It bloody should be with that mortality rate... Fair dues...That's not money you can find down the back of the sofa...Who-you-know is a handy thing, no?... ...But clearly, good support is always the way to go up there... Do you have a place where your pics can be viewed?...I bet they're awesome...If a little terrifying... ... QUOTE(Crow-Boy) Friday! Despite having no job I still frickin love Fridays!! McB- I recommend NOT creating more injuries just so as to go back and see Doctor Crusher. But if you do, you might tell her this.Or- if you're feeling more old schoolSeriously- take it easy. I recommend resting and video games....

QUOTE(Tellie @ Jun 16 2016, 10:21 PM) That picture...why mALX? It hurts my soul just looking at it Oh I forgot to ask, how are you doing malxie? better? Thorney's feelings were hurt, I was commiserating with him, Since I moved everything has been better, even the bad days are happier ones! I've had very few heart issues since the move too; so all in all I"m doing great! To this day I still get a huge kick every time I think of your Lucien scenes, especially that kick and that iron girdle over his robe the next day, That goes down in history as the funniest thing I've ever read! I think you should have left a copy of that up on the summit for future brave people who climb that peak to find, That would have people laughing so hard they would fall off the top and roll back down the mountain the hard (but faster) way!

Grrrr... Gosh, McB! That is awful, I hope you are okay! I didn't know cows could kick that high, thought their udders would get in the way and bounce their legs back down or something. But I had a friend get kicked in the head by the horse he was grooming, (his glasses also flew) - and he was not okay. I mean, his brain was still intact, he had all his faculties; but his face was a mess. Hope you are okay! This post has been edited by mALX: Jun 19 2016, 12:08 AM
