My diet continues its predictably mundane pattern. Tonight's supper consisted of my usual lettuce salad with veggies, raisins, a bit of shredded cheddar cheese and Wishbone Robusto Italian dressing. Had a hard-boiled egg sprinkled with paprika on the side. Water to drink. Half an apple for dessert. The one thing that makes this different from most salad suppers is that I did without tuna, as I tend to do maybe two days a week. (It's a fairly recent development, established both to save funds and better keep my weight in check.) Also, I'm not a fan of Italian dressings, but use them on occasion for variety.
I've returned to my practice of some suppers mixing my standard assemblage of veggies, raisins, tuna, and cheese with brown rice instead of lettuce. With these concoctions I rotate between two "dressings". The first is a blend of warmed Prego Sausage & Garlic and a bit of Kraft Horseradish sauce. Second is a warmed blend of Wishbone Raspberry & Hazelnut Vinaigrette, a little butter (either real of artificial) and artificial sweetener. (I leave off cheese with the sweet "dressing".) I enjoy these rice-based suppers more than lettuce salads, but suspect my waistline doesn't.
While at "city" hall dropping off my utility payment I noticed an advertisement for our Senior Citizen's Center. (Seems to me it should read "Senior Citizens' Center", but what do I know?) It offers $3 lunches twice a week. The lady behind the counter said I could take a copy with me. I was about to ask why I would want to when it dawned on me that I indeed qualify for these meals! I still can't fathom why I'd want to sit down and eat with a bunch of old farts. Yet I am one of their number. The world is a screwy screwy place is all I have to say. (I took a copy of the notice...heh.)

Khajiit thought brown rice was supposed to be good for you? This one eats a ton of rice! Been trying to do more quinoa but it just seems to take more effort to make good, unlike rice where I just have to add salt and black pepper and perhaps a bit of butter to the boiling water.

I don't picture you as someone who has to keep their waistline in check, lol. But truthfully - your salad dinner sounded absolutely delicious! QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ Apr 11 2017, 03:52 PM) Mmmm mmmhhh! Frijoles Charros Negros in the pot!

Well yes, so far as I know brown rice is indeed good for you, or at least not bad. That's why I allow myself to keep it in the house. Admittedly not everything I keep in-house is "healthy", sugar-free strawberry preserves being a case in point. But it's not gonna kill me in moderation, and I can indeed easily limit myself usage to one piece of toast per breakfast. Some foods I don't dare keep close at hand because sooner or later I'll lose all self control and pig out on 'em, likely becoming addicted in the process. I've been that route several times. The end result isn't pretty. Heh. Had another of my rare restaurant meals today, at my Chinese Buffet of choice again. The food was good (but not great) as usual. Boy did I stuff myself, again as usual. Chopsticks, also as usual. I was so bad with 'em at first I almost threw in the towel and unwrapped the provided fork. Then POOF, something 'clicked' and it became second nature. After such a large launch I did without supper, but for half a Fuji apple, food (or milk) being required with my evening migraine preventative dosage. Khajiit found that learning to use chopsticks greatly enhanced the experience of eating many Asian cuisines.

The better non-franchise places usually don't deliver. We have one in town that is really worth the drive and 30 dollar price on one of their pizzas. There is also a drive-in hamburger stand that is 30 miles outside the city limits in the middle of nowhere that is SO worth the drive for anything they serve from their REAL malted milkshakes to corndogs or bacon burgers. You dream about their food when you can't get up there, it is that good. Even though they are out in the boonies and no where near anything; they are always packed full in the parking lot from the time they open till they close. And it isn't for the cute little carhops that trot out to your car to take your order; because they aren't that cute.
