Finally got a riding lawn mower, and now the blasted thing won't start. Pretty sure it's the battery.

Prolly. First thing is always to charge the battery and then one can move on to other stuff.

Oh, and, ehm... I'm pretty sure it needs fuel... wink.gif

Funnily enough, it's last because it started up first try. Replaced the oil/filter, fuel/filter, spark plug, and fixed the steering. Fired it right up. One week later, battery is giving me problems.

Batteries can sometimes just crash. If you can't find any other problem I think you may have to replace it. We've had these issues sometimes with our machines too.

I'm gonna try to jump it with my car tomorrow. If that doesn't work, it'll be off to Wal Mart!

As threatened, I resumed daily exercise-walks. Started this past Friday (I think). Forgot to take heart readings until yesterday. That reading, taken about five minutes after the walk, was 96/64 blood pressure, 79 pulse. Today's reading, again circa five minutes after the fact, was 107/64 blood pressure, 75 pulse. My knees don't allow for much more than an snail's pace, but I do push myself as far as I think safe. No idea how long I'll stick with it. Maintaining enthusiasm for exercise becomes more difficult with every passing year.

If I mow tomorrow, I'll substitute that for my daily walk. Then rains for some days. No outdoor exercise during bad weather for poor decrepit me. Not anymore. Not in quite a few years.

Mowed the lawn this morning. Planned to wait until after lunch, but an early morning forecast predicted storm chances beginning mid afternoon, with potential for severe weather. Thanks to overcast skies and a healthy breeze the mow seems not to have adversely affected me over much. Heart reading about five minutes afterward: blood pressure 105/62, pulse 80.

(A recent forecast shows today's severe threat removed...for the time being.)

Doh!

Checked today's online weather forecast every fifteen min or so. All checks showed overcast skies but no chance of rain/storms until midday. Decided to get in an exercise walk before rains make it impossible for the next some days. Left home circa 0700. Reached the far end of my street when a few isolated drops began to fall. Wasn't enough to worry about, and cleared in maybe a min, so I kept on truck'n. All was well until at the far end of the street one block south, the furthest away from home I am during the walk, when isolated drops again began to fall. This time it intensified, first to a slight sprinkle, then to a light but steady rain, which lasted a few min before letting up. Had no recourse but to let myself become waterlogged. No further rains, but I decided to cut the walk short at the 2/3rd mark. Took a longish hot shower and donned dry clothes. Gonna hope this doesn't trigger a lung/chest episode.

Fired right up with the jumper cables on it. Just gotta wait to see if it holds the charge, now.

Decrepit - Sorry you got wet. Especially after doing your due diligence in checking the weather and such.

Cain - Great news! Hope it will hold the charge now.

Decrepit - Sorry you got wet. Especially after doing your due diligence in checking the weather and such.

An irony is that, despite forecasts of bad weather predicted for much of yesterday beginning several hours after my walk, as it turns out the brief unpredicted squall I got caught in was the only rain we had.

As for today, the forecast is again all over the place, changing constantly. Circa 0700 the view out my living room window showed a sunny, partly cloudy sky. Got in a full exercise-walk, with no fear of another drenching. Heart reading circa 5min after my return home: blood pressure 104/66, pulse 80.

Aside from walks, I've spent almost all my time reading these past some days, so worked on no other projects.

ADDENDUM: So much for no extra projects.

1.) Forgot to mention that the computer case I want (or rather that is okay but within my budget) went on sale the other day. Ordered one. It arrived during lunch. Opened the box and inspected it after my meal. Found one non lease-breaking blemish, a slight dent in the side panel. Not gonna send it back over that.

2.) The new regime's FCC and its ill-ustrious chairman have taken their initial step in destroying Net Neutrality. This has such immense destructive ramifications for the internet as we currently know it that I hope I can be forgiven for breaking our political taboo by mentioning it here. (It is highly unlikely you'll hear much if anything about it on MSM, as that institution has a vested interest in the destruction.) I'll say no more other than that I already submitted official FCC feedback to its proposal, and also sent 'em an informal regular email on the subject. (I'll likely send 'em an email every day.) Might do more (nothing "evil") if I can drum up the energy. I seem to be becoming quite the activist (within the limits of my decrepitude) in my old age. Who would've thought?

Grocery day. Spent $48.36 on food, as closed as I've come to my $50 limit in quite some time.

Returned home, put away groceries. Decided to get in my daily walk before lunch. Did so. Toasted two slices of bread, coated 'em with butter substitute. Opened a can of soup, prepared it for heating in the micro. Set timer and turned on microwave. Filled a grass with ice. POOF... electricity cut out.

Fine weather (for once), so no idea what's up with outage. Waited some minutes hoping power would resume. Gave up, put soup in refrigerator, glass with ice in freezer. Grabbed Eye of the World, took it to computer room. Adjusted tilt on desk chair to make it comfortable for book reading. Phone rang, it's Entergy saying power is out for my entire town (more or less) with a three hour estimated restoration time. Lowered chair armrests into position. POOF... power restored. Wait a minute or so to ensure all is well. Reconfigure chair for computer use. Retrieve soup bowl and grass with ice. Prepare lunch. Ate.

No further projects today come to mind, likely because I have none planned.

Heart reading following today's walk: blood pressure 111/66, pulse 87. I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying that these walks are going better than expected. No chest pains and great physical tiredness like my attempts earlier in the year. I'm groggy as heck while walking, but then I'm always groggy to one extend or other.

A project of sorts: I stripped the various layers of "padding" off my bed and am sleeping / laying down directly on the mattress. I've tried this a few times before. It never works out. Then again the extra padding doesn't work out either.

Was having trouble with my car's blower for the AC/heater. Took it to a guy who determined that the wires had somehow come loose. Now it runs just fine, and not a day too soon with summer approaching.

Update on Khajiit's tomahawk project:

After we got the head cleaned up, we took our back up handle and charred it a bit with a small butane torch. Eventually we plan on staining the handle a nice color, and perhaps either bluing or forcing a patina on the head.

As for me I've spent the day maintaining the ole Cavator. Let's check off the list:

*New hydraulic oil (Finally!)
*Cleaning
*Greasing och wiping off excess grease
*Tightening of the wiper arm
*Fueling
*Checking oil and coolant levels

And now it stands in the woods, eagerly awaiting next rock-removing session! biggrin.gif
